This year, the stage will also invite South Florida chefs outside of Wynwood who are taking the culinary scene to a higher level. FIBER OPTICS – Not what it seems. Five artists explore the world of fibers…natural and not. Colorful yarn, thread, plant fibers, sisal, raffia, luxurious lace, and felted wool are chosen because of how they look and feel.Seductive, soft to the touch and to the eye the artists … play with threads crossing threads, thick and thin, unusual inclusions Traditional processes, such as embroidery, quilting, knitting and weaving are revisited. The optical mixing of colors and textures give the illusion of a third dimension where the integration of light and transparency are an integral part of the process. The endless variations chosen by the artists are absolutely fantastic. For additional information please contact 786.390.5447.

Lop-Off Sessions are a series of one-day, site-specific performances organized by Maitejosune Urrechaga & Tony Kapel of Pocket of Lollipops. The rock duo will present an all female line-up for the event, their first Lop-Off Session in Broward County.

The all female line up of local bands and musicians will record one song each on location at the Pink Noise: Flexing the Frequency exhibition in the galleries of Girls’ Club. These songs will then be made available as a compilation. Each band will have up to 30 minutes to knock out the song. The public is invited to watch on as an audience, respectful of the sound recordings taking place.

The objective of these Lop-Off Sessions is to show working musicians and the measures it takes capture a song.

Amid the backdrop of the exhibition Pink Noise: Flexing the Frequency, the audience is given a behind the scenes glimpse of the recording process – the set up, the tuning, the rehearsing, the capturing of a single musical work – a performance usually restricted to a trusted few.

“The audience will be watching what it takes for musicians to set-up, and capture a song. And also witness the stress, the anxiety or complete calm. Basically witnessing each musician’s approach to the task. So the acts are not really performing a show – just coming in and doing the track – some need the complete 30 minutes – some do 1st takes.”

– Tony Kapel

These sessions are then made available to audiences for sale on location and at partnering locations in a limited edition vinyl album set, as a CD set and digitally through Houndstooth Cottage., a recording/publishing house, and host of semi-private music and art events.

Bows & Ties
Farina & Didi (Haochi)

Photographer Rena Effendi documented the living conditions of various refugee camps for those fleeing from the conflicts in the Middle East. She visited camps in Lebanon, Jordan and saw thousands stuck in a limbo by the border in Idomeni, Greece. Syrians, Iraqis, Afghans along with others were on their way to Europe, escaping the violence of war back home. More than twelve thousand people are currently stuck in a limbo, languishing in a wretched camp by the border. What once was a chance for a better life – the Crossing Point – has become a metaphor for human resilience at the face of hardship. Rena’s photographs capture not only the tragedy of this epic crisis, but more importantly, they capture the fortitude of the human spirit. In her own words, she is not looking to evoke pity and compassion only, but rather, respect and admiration for these people that have endured so much. Proceeds from the sales of The Crossing Point will benefit The Radcliffe Foundation Refugee Crisis Fund, which has been actively responding to the on-going refugee crisis by providing humanitarian aid to refugees in places like Greece and Turkey.

PINTA Miami is gearing up for its 10th anniversary celebration, which will take place from November 30 to December 4, 2016 at MANA Wynwood, located in the heart of the Miami Arts District. This edition will be the pinnacle of ten years that have left a mark on the world of modern and contemporary art from Latin America. In order to further our mission, PINTA Miami’s curatorial committee has expanded its project to include galleries from around the globe while maintaining a conceptual dialogue across all cultures, connecting Latin America to the rest of the world.

Launched in New York in 2006, the fair is considered the most important event of its kind. The founding of PINTA Miami was a milestone event in awareness of twentieth-century Hispanic-American art. It has increased the visibility in the United States of crucial figures like Julio Le Parc, José Gurvich, Jorge Eielson, Lydia Okumura, Antonio Manuel, Waltercio Caldas, Ivan Contreras Brunet, Carlos Cruz-Diez, and Spanish artist Elena Asins—all of whom have been featured in its exhibitions and galleries. Emerging contemporary artists like Elias Crespin, Ivan Navarro, Alexandre Arrechea, Dario Escobar, Matias Duville, Alejandro Londono, Gonzalo Fuenmayor, José Luis Landet, Ricardo Alcaide, Emilio Chapela, and many others have also participated in the fair. Through innovative management strategies, PINTA has been instrumental to major museums’ acquiring works by Latin American artists. A few examples of such acquisitions include a piece by Abraham Palatnik purchased by MoMA for its permanent collection; a work by Elias Crespín purchased by The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and a work by Fernando Bryce purchased by the Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (MALBA).

“Thanks to its impressive programming, PINTA Miami 2015 was extremely well attended. Our curated sections featured not only works by a range of legendary artists, but also recreations of historical performances. The fantastic selection of participating galleries from Latin America, Spain, and Portugal built new relationships with international collectors and directors of art institutions, enabling a great many sales,” states Diego Costa Peuser, the founder and director of PINTA Miami. “There was great interest in figures like Romulo Aguerre, Reynaldo Luza, Roberto Obregon, and Elena Asins, and in artists born after the sixties like the Carla Arocha – Stéphane Schraenen duo.”

PINTA Miami 2016 will be more international and interdisciplinary. Thanks to their successful sections at last year’s edition, curators José Antonio Navarrete, Roc Laseca, and Jesus Fuenmayor will return this year to curate sections on photography, drawing, and solo projects respectively. This edition aims to continue to provide a platform for its participants and to further the fair’s mission of showcasing pioneering artists and discovering young talents.

In addition, PINTA Miami launches the Young Collectors Desk, an initiative of Guijarro de Pablo Art Consulting. The objective is to provide to the assistants -already avid collectors and enthusiasts of art – with the necessary tools to maximize the experience at the fair. The Young Collectors Desk aims to educate and give attendees the opportunity to explore the world of the arts with guided tours that focus on the construction and maintenance of a coherent and sustainable collection. The initiative is directed by Jimena Guijarro, who combines her knowledge of strategic communications with her experience and passion for the visual arts. One of her specialties is to introduce and facilitate the collecting processes to newcomers to the art world.

PINTA Miami is directed by Diego Costa Peuser, CEO and Editor in Chief of Arte al Dia Internacional magazine. He is also the founder and director of PARC – Peru Arte Contemporaneo, BAphoto (Buenos Aires Photo), and the Buenos Aires and Punta del Este editions of Gallery Nights. In this 2016 edition, PINTA Miami will also enjoy the support of the SaludArte Foundation, directed by collector Tanya Brillembourg, and EFG Bank, a Swiss bank that has had offices in Miami for over twenty years. LATAM also returns to PINTA as the sponsor of VIP lounge. On this anniversary edition, PINTA reinforces its commitment to support and promote latin american art while connecting it to the rest of the world by “crossing cultures”, thereby taking the fair to new frontiers.

Toda percepción es una interpretación: You are part of it is a retrospective look from the viewpoint of contemporary issues of art, culture, politics and economics. It seeks to reflect on the successive reconfigurations of the art map in the last few decades, on the displacements and relocations of its primary centers, from Paris to New York, from Venice to São Paulo, from Basel to Miami. It speaks of areas that have succeeded in alternating centripetal or centrifugal forces, where art has relocated its meeting points and its observation points. We also pay attention to the effects of redrawing the financial or political map, with the repercussion it has on how one makes and proceeds in art.

Proxy Selves: a fast-paced, prompt-driven writing workshop with Girls’ Club writer in residence Jan Becker

$20 registration

“Do I contradict myself? Very well, then I contradict myself, I am large, I contain multitudes.”
– Walt Whitman, “Song of Myself”

Proxy Selves is a poetry/creative nonfiction workshop that will explore and give voice to the multitudes of self contained within each writer.
Participants will explore how relationships, politics, setting, time and other factors alter others’ perception of us as individuals, and how projection of self is altered under different circumstances. Participants can expect to produce a series of short poetry/creative nonfiction pieces, gain inspiration for further writing after the workshop concludes, and become more comfortable with developing a drafting process.

Writers of any level are welcome. This generative workshop is designed to silence the inner critic that plagues most writers, and allow access to an uninhibited writing voice–or as Whitman might phrase it, sound a “barbaric yawp over the roofs of the world.”

Yo Miami and artist Kareem David Piper are pleased to announce the opening reception for “Metaxy and the Magic City.” Concrete Beach Brewery will be providing refreshments for the opening and closing receptions, occurring respectively on May 21st, 2016 and July 21st 2016. Music will be by Kwesi Kris. Kareem’s work reflects the contemporary human condition of existing in a transient state. His work questions the true depth of these relationships created with people and places which are encountered only in passing. They evoke a feeling of internal splitting or dislocation, and force the viewer to question how they perceive their own reality. This body of work reflects Piper’s feelings and perceptions of various social settings and transient scenes he encounters on a daily basis while living in Miami. The depicted images are sourced from photos the artist has taken while riding the Miami Dade Metrorail. The Metrorail is very close to the artist’s studio, and is itself very symbolic of the transient state that exists here in Miami. This exhibition serves as a celebration and validation of the Master of Fine Art in painting degree he will be receiving this year from MIU. His studio can be found in downtown Miami at 500 NE 1st Ave, Miami, FL 33132 and is available for visits by appointment only.

Dara Friedman was born in Bad Kreuznach, Germany and currently lives and works between Miami and Bad Kreuznach, Germany.

She is an internationally acclaimed, Miami-based artist who is best known for experimental, non-narrative works that deconstruct the techniques of conventional filmmaking. Using the camera lens as an extension of her eye and body, Friedman strives for a heightened sense of subjectivity, distilling individual moments in time down to their emotional essence.

Artists in Action! is a 4-part presentation series at Girls’ Club, where prominent local artists offer a glimpse into their unique methods of artmaking. Chosen from the current exhibition Self-Proliferation, the 4 presenting artists work with diverse media, employing various printing and proliferation techniques to carry their message. Artists will share their inspirations, career paths and ah hah! moments with the public.

At each event, Girls’ Club will release a limited edition multiple for sale, under $100. This is an opportunity for budding art collectors to own one copy of a signed, limited edition work, published by Girls’ Club.

Talk begins at 7pm.

March Madness begins at our new location for Secret Garden, just behind the RC Cola Plant we discovered a perfect little cove.

We’ve always been inspired of the grittiness and realness of Detroit, so we went on the search of discovery. What we found was an urban oasis, with tall concrete walls and laden with the artistic language of the streets… Graffiti. We are capturing the essence of this powerful space and transforming into our own concrete garden. Music will be at the forefront as we present some of Miami’s most talented music selectors showcasing an array of musical styles aimed at defining this space that is truly underground in its nature. The focus will be on the aesthetic of an urban environment, as Siglo Events will be unveiling new murals that will further elevate the space. Come and visit a very special new location that has us extremely excited for what is yet to come. Remember… its only a secret, if you keep it!

This solo show, called “PONZOÑA,” is the second one he’s had in the U.S and prior to that his work has appeared in various galleries around the world including Barcelona, Italy, Mexico, London and New York City. Ciler’s unapologetic work is best known for the defacement and manipulation of existing images with an often-dark archaeological intent to unearth today’s dysfunctional society. When artists talk about their “work”, they can be talking about two different things. There’s the artwork, the finished product, framed and hung on a gallery wall. Then there’s the day to day stuff of creating the artwork itself such as searching for inspiration leading to an idea, deciding how to express it, applying paint to canvas, etc. By letting go of our egos and sharing the process, we allow others to have ongoing connections with us and our work.

Every city has its book written in a million different volumes, each with its own author. New York tells stories of a concrete jungle, crawling with those who strive to one day take a chunk of the apple and feast on it for the rest of eternity. Los Angeles with its tales of lost angels flocking from all over the world is heaven for some, purgatory or even hell for others. But what about Miami? What of its book? Time and time again the city has been glamorized by South Beach and its pretty colors. A city supposedly filled with flamingos and peacocks ignores the pigeons and mocking birds that truly call it home. Under the Black Sun Through the Neon Trees will give a voice to a group of native sons telling Miami’s story through their own work. Each artist, different from the next, will own a little piece of this epic volume by adding a chapter to the Magic City.
WYN 317 Gallery is pleased to present Under the Black Sun Through the Neon Trees, a group exhibition curated by Ivan Roque featuring works by Ernesto Maranje, James Livingston, James Brutus, Danny Ferrer and Ivan Roque.

Venezuelan architect, goldsmith and sculptor, Luz María Charlita, presents her latest show, “Nature Redepicted” at Gallery G & S Alternative Space in Hollywood, during the next edition of Downtown Hollywood ArtWalk next Saturday April 18th.
Known for her metalwork interpreting the perfection of nature forms, Luz María Charlita returns to South Florida with this exhibition where the “Ecologic Rains: Green Rains” and Flower Rains” are focal point of this proposal.
Charlita began practicing his career as an architect in 1979, but it was her passion for detail that led her to specialize in interior design and go to work in Spain. There she began to connect with the metal work and goldsmith. As she returned to Venezuela she was devoted to manual work choosing as her material, metal intervened by fire. To these early works she added natural unworked stones like quartz and ammonites (mollusk fossils). Then she began with semiprecious stones and more elaborate pieces resulting in a collection of fine jewelry.
“There comes a time when you realize your jewel becomes larger and has the potential to be a three-dimensional project. This can be a sculpture, a painting, a piece in three dimensions, ” says Charlita. And then is when she takes the next step: metal sculpture Luz Maria also confesses not being afraid of the scale because she worked as an architect. “I had to design from buildings to utilitarian objects”
The Perfect Forms of Nature as a Source of Inspiration
The artistic work of Luz María Charlotte, has evolved not only in relation to the scale and materials but also the forms it represents. She went through an exploratory stage, from the origin of live beings, their forms, their designs and the search for perfection in natural forms such as snail, considered by her, a perfect structure.
She started working spirals and mazes as archaic forms. “The spiral works on its own axis, is progressive, it’s like DNA. It has upward movement and that inner strength of a tornado’s vortex ” she explains. She is also admits being fascinated by the geometry of the labyrinths and mystery it represents.
Metal is her greatest ally. She considers it a very noble material, becoming a truly fascinating element when it is intervened by fire. “Fire is my ally. The experience of working metal under flames at night is unique, especially working with copper. It shows colors almost like a rainbow. It’s almost supernatural “.
Charlita’s work goes from the original trace of the beings on earth through fossil, to more complex forms. In this second stage, she begins to interpret nature in its vegetation form resulting in her “Ecologic Rains: Flower Rains and Green Rains”. “I went from working fossils to designing a flower, but not the flower per se, but the flower inside a rain. It was a repetition work I wanted to do as an installation”.
Luz María returns with her work to Miami because she believes that the city will soon become an important point in the US, thanks to the confluence of cultures and young people that gives movement to the city. “Miami is a city with an impressive artistic thrust. There are a multitude of cultural events. It is already attracting many people, not just summer tourists, also cultural ones, ” she said.

Street Festival Brings The Best of Wynwood to Life!

Wynwood Life is back and packed with everything that Miami loves. The colorful, annual event is all about art, music, fashion and food. This year’s new location will feature more artists, fashion shows, art displays, musical bands, interactive features and a new collaborative cooking showcase that will highlight popular Wynwood restaurants and chefs.

A wide selection of featured artists will be organized by world renowned painter Alexander Mijares, who will also design the festival’s 2015 collective poster. For the first time ever, Mijares will have a pop-up gallery showcasing his unique style of art, which finds inspiration in the colorful energy of both this city and heritage. “It’s unusual to have an artist of his caliber showcasing at a festival. Wynwood Life is a great place to see him in action, and while you’re there, be sure to pick up an original work of art,” said Javi Zayas, co-founder of SWARM, the organizer behind the festival.

The Peroni Style Lounge will once again feature fashionistas at their pop-up boutique, and during the event, it will showcase multiple fashion shows with local boutiques, fashion bloggers and stylists.

It wouldn’t be Wynwood without Food Trucks, so the festival will have the biggest food truck rally ever with over 50 favorites and a number of food vendors ready to please all taste buds. In addition, the event has partnered with Wynwood neighbor, Miami Club Rum. Several bars will be equipped with the hand-crafted rum made in Miami’s first distillery by artisans with a family history of rum production that dates back five generations. Beer lovers rejoice! The Blue Moon Brew Pub will be back with a fully stocked selection of cold brews and mixed drinks. New this year is the Wynwood Culinary Showcase, which will feature top restaurants and chefs from the area showcasing their cuisine. Wynwood Life is sponsored by Miami Club Rum

This year’s musical line-up is bigger and better, featuring many local favorites including Problem Kidz, Spam Allstar, Suenalo, The Tremends, Danger Flow and Elastic Bond to name a few. For a complete schedule of performances, click on Live Music at www.WynwoodLife.com.

The Artisan Lounge is proud to present Toa Castellanos and Alessandra Santos for their duo exhibit entitled Unsuited. This exhibit engages in an exploration of the aspects that come together to define us as a person. It is common that people use their careers as a major defining factor of who they are and their worth. By taking suits, a common symbol of the corporate, and deconstructing them, the work reveals the true nature of that which once was manufactured:

Future Painting, is the culmination of 4 years of research into video mapped paintings and will feature various approaches to integrating video and technology into mixed-media collage paintings. Through the use of video projections on top of physical paintings and translucent collages created directly on the face of video screens, Justin Wood transforms and twists the physical composition into a mesmerizing psychedelic experience. These works challenge the viewers perception of where the physical world ends and where the digital world begins and asks the question, Can painting and video exist at the same time? The show will also feature a site specific interactive wall painting that will respond to the depth and motion of the viewer through the use of a Kinect sensor, and allow the viewer to transform the video with their movement.

Photographs of 17th Annual Gifford Lane Art Stroll in Coconut Grove on 3/1/15

17th Annual Gifford Lane Art Stroll in Coconut Grove on Sunday, March 1, 2015. This was our first time and loved it, so much fun, amazing art, great community and wonderful music.  I can’t wait until next year.

“The Gifford Lane Art Stroll was started 17 years ago by a half-dozen artists who lived along this block.  Most of them have now moved away but a hearty band of some thirty neighbors have made the little event a Coconut Grove tradition. They meet on weekends for months to hold planning pot-luck supper gatherings to map each year coming up.”

ABOUT THE SHOW
We are excited to announce the artists that will be exhibiting their artwork in the 3rd Annual “Cloud 9: Let Yourself Be Seen” Art + Music Show and we hope you will join us. Cloud 9 is a world where you allow yourself to dream, trust, develop, risk, expand, take action and create without limitations! When we listen to our hearts and trust our inner selves we experience a burst of energy and discover pure joy.
All of the art that will be exhibited will be accompanied with a short paragraph from the artist as to why the pieces put them on “cloud 9”. The intention is for all who attend the exhibition to participate, leave inspired, empowered and alive.

We’re so excited to present a selection of works by an extraordinary artist Alicia Viera. At 96 years old Alicia, continues to create art everyday as she has since she was a young girl studying at Cuba’s legendary San Alejandro Fine Arts Academy. We hope that you will join us on Saturday, February 21 during the Bird Road Art Walk to meet the artist and view her works.

The exhibit features a selection of figurative drawings and paintings from the 1950s to present day. Some of the work still bears a Cuban seal authenticating the artists ownership and granting permission to take it out of the country.

But the focus of Viera’s exhibit is her pictorial language of geometric abstraction and her exploration and mastery of new mediums. Bold, fluid, geometric forms and undulations of her previous work on paper and canvas are reinterpreted and presented in the form of ceramic sculptures, boxes and wall hangings.

All work is available for sale.

MANO Fine Art Project Space is the working studio of Miami-based artist MANO and an exhibition and project space for art related events. MANO Fine Art is one of the founding members of the Bird Road Art Walk that is held on the third Saturday of each month.

Attendees will be able to see furniture and home accessories made in Art Deco decades. Models will take the stage and showcase clothing and accessories made or inspired by the Art Deco era. Finally, the ADW Film Series will feature films made in Miami Beach as we celebrate the “100 Years of Miami Beach!”

Largo’s research for the highly personal collection of anecdotes about the effects of common and uncommon plants on humans led him to Tropical Botanic Artists who drew or painted plants to illustrate his words. Reception December 5:00 – 8:00 PM
Little Haiti Arts District
8325 NE 2 Ave
Miami FL, 33138

December 2 – 7, 2014 marks the opening of Zones Art Fair. We present a selection of events and shows that challenge traditional structures in performance and contemporary art: The “Planet Hollywood” of Newer Genres, Jan and Dave’s Improvisational Noise, and Performia Performance Art Festival. Please check our events calendar for full schedule.

Certain contemporary art practices—installation, performance, relational aesthetics, social sculpture et al.—are notoriously hard to document or commodify. The “Planet Hollywood” of Newer Genres questions how these practices fit in to our dominant culture of object display. Here, objects that exist as a facilitator of an action or document of a non-object based art happening are displayed in an evolving installation that attempts to graft a provisional emanation to an indexical remnant. The fair opens to the public December 2 with a reception December 5. There will be spontaneous and scheduled (see website) performances throughout the week. Artists include Julia Sinelnikova, Jen Clay, Jamie Thomas Marsh, James Mayhew, Sophia Park, Kalan Sherrard, Leyla Mozayen, Bruno Giuliani, Varvara Voetskova, Dino Real, Kathryn Marks, Jon Konkol, Maria paz Valenzuela, Kevin Blackstone, Antoinette Suiter, House of Gunt, SSTR, Local Honey, DAZZLESTORM!, Michael Anthony Farley, Ellen Degenerate, Poncili Creacion, and Ellen Turrietta, and Vincent Tiley. The “Planet Hollywood” of Newer Genres is curated by Liz Ferrer and Michael Anthony Farley two artists whose practice combine performance, image/object making, events and curation.

Jan and Dave’s Improvisational Noise, organized by Jan Weingarten and Dave Kudzma. Bring your own noise making instrument or creation. The public is invited to watch or join in the making of Noise Music. Be a part of the improvisational situation that could be as minimal as one note, or a chaotic cacophony, direction unknown, and experimental. Join us December 2-4 from 6-9 PM.

Performia Performance Art Festival, founded and curated by Charo Oquet, will run December 2-7, with a mission to present performance to the pragmatic art fair format. Participants include Rat Bastard, Kat Toledo, Karina Pais, Asymmetrical Apples, The Brants, Moises Aragon, Jan & Dave, House Pencil Green, David Brieske. Also as part of the festival there will be a book launch and reading from Dominican author and curator Alanna Lockward, Un Haiti Dominicano.

The exhibition, titled “The Great American Novel and Other Stories,” will premier at Art Bastion, in conjunction with Wynwood Art Walk. from 6 – 8pm
as we feature

Lauren Shapiro
and
Maitejosune Urrecgaga

The ceremonial entrance will leave you charmed by Lady Lauren Shapiro and Mrs. Maitejosune Urrechaga. The two artist have invited you to a dwelling place much like “Neverland”

The two queens of Triumphant Spells share a love for magical and mystical realms. Be ready to experience drawings, sculptures, installations and what not’s. the unusual few and widely separated characters of their work will give light to the fine incantation.

Mrs. Maitejosune Urrechagas artwork has been displayed national and internationally since 2005. Her DIY attitude is very compelling and very much alive which audiences continue to respond with enthusiasm.

She has grown to fancy towards group projects, which usually include oddball outcomes such as designing mini refrigerators to pimp my kart to the mind the snails project which ran during Miami’s Art Basel on Dec of 2006-2007, which she received a nod from the Miami new Times in their Best of Issue. TO her musical performance Pocket of Lollipops that joined forces with her husband and received top 5 song in South Florida.

She has curated, exhibited and performed at various art spaces and live music venues around the US. Including Dorsch Gallery, SwampSpace, Hollywood Art and Culture Center, Verge Art Fair, ArtFormz Gallery, and the traditional rock settings.
She was one of three artist chosen to paint the 7-foot alligator sculptures for Sawgrass Mills “Paying tribute to woman”

Lady Lauren Shapiro
is a South Florida native, and her artwork contains elements of both nature and the supernatural. Living in Florida has influenced her work through an appreciation and deep fascination with the ocean and all of its life forms. Lauren holds a BFA from Florida Atlantic University, and is currently a Graduate Fellow pursing an MFA in ceramics at the University of Miami.
She has fully immersed herself in the South Florida artist community as both teacher and artist. Previous to applying for candidacy of a Masters at the University of Miami, Lauren worked as an outreach instructor and in-house workshop leader at the Boca Museum of art and ceramics instructor at the Boca Raton Art School.
Her work in this series is inspired by metamorphosis, the connection between humans and nature, and how the actions of one will affect the other. The imagery that can be found in the artwork includes textures in nature, symbols from legends and folklore, as well as natural science and the microscopic world. Also turning to her dreams and subconscious thoughts she relies on intuition to guide her through the development of the work.
Her work has been exhibited at Museums and galleries in South Florida, to name a few: the Projects Space in FAT Village, The Lowe Museum, Girls Club, Locust Projects, and she has work in the private collection of Francie Bishop Good.

Tickets for loitering will not be issued here while this talented and playful street art team transforms the west-facing wall of 1909 Harrison Street in Downtown Hollywood in just a few weeks. The community welcomes Chaz and Bob Gibson, aka “The London Police”, to the neighborhood as the creators of the 12th DHMP wall mural. The community is looking forward to seeing the artful enhancement this British duo has in store. All are invited to join a “Live Painting Performance” with TLP at the mural site on Saturday night, September 27th from 7-10pm.

The Downtown Hollywood Mural Project is successfully rounding its second year with an impressive roster of artists including Daniel Fila a.k.a. “Krave”, David “Lebo” LeBatard, Jessy Nite, Luis Pinto, Edward Mendieta, Ruben Ubiera, 2alas, Evoca1, Michelle Weinberg and Tati Suarez, all who have contributed amazing work to the community. Selected by a review committee, the project invites artists whose mural proposals promote health, happiness, and well-being.

When asked about the mural he and his partner are gearing up to begin next month, artist Chaz Gibson tells us, “We always try to project a positive theme in our pieces. Our signature characters have happy faces and are depicted doing everyday things in the world they live in. In this particular piece one of our characters is making adjustments to the aquarium he is looking after. As we are near the sea we threaded an aquatic theme with science and nature with an overall moral of looking after each other.”
The duo has clearly come up with a mural concept that speaks to Hollywood and incorporates attributes that this community can connect with. “We love the idea of the aquatic theme and the fact that the mural will promote togetherness. That is what Hollywood is all about and The London Police really get that about us”, remarks Lisa Liotta, Hollywood Community Redevelopment Agency’s Operations Manager.
Since inception, The Downtown Hollywood Mural Project has garnered the attention of locals, visitors and art enthusiasts alike. Giselle Perez, a realtor in Miami comments on her experience, “The live mural painting events are really quite awesome to attend! No two events have been similar and each artist brings their own vibe. My friends and I come up from Miami for a bite to eat at one of the eclectic eateries on Hollywood Blvd. or Harrison Street. We pop into a few of the crafty boutiques and art galleries and really enjoy walking the streets to see the mural walls throughout the downtown. Often times, the artists have added or change something, which is always a nice surprise! The live mural performances are really fun to attend. Meeting new people who have an appreciation for art and community is always a good time!”

Art Days is designed to bring together and promote the cultural community, in addition to facilitating and incentivizing art exhibitions and other cultural activities. In its third year, Art Days, supported by the Miami Downtown Development Authority (DDA), continues to provide free inspiring art activities across the Downtown cultural landscape. Working in partnership with a variety of arts and culture institutions, organizations and artists, Art Days is a three-day cultural exploration that incorporates countless free events and exhibitions for the community to experience and enjoy. Art Days offers something for everyone from family activities, panel discussions, international exhibitions, bike tours, walking tours and so much more!

Art Days is comprised of three components:
The Hub
located at MCAD, 100 NE 1st Ave, Miami, FL 33132
The “hub” is the epicenter for information on Art Days. In 2013 over 130 events took place around Downtown Miami, so it’s worthwhile to take a moment and set an itinerary to make the most out of the weekend!
The hub is the place to…
…find someone to help you navigate through the vast amount of things to do.
…start most walking and bike tours.
…be creative and paint your own unique t-shirt.
…hang out and connect with your friends on social media.
…find people to welcome you to Downtown Miami.

The Fringe
The “Fringe” is a set of curated activations of Downtown Miami in the form of visual and performance art projects. The visual art projects are commissioned, site-specific public art installations, curated by a specialist contemporary art curator Amanda Sanfilippo, and located within a one-mile radius around the Hub for easy walkability. This year’s Fringe has been initiated in partnership with Miami Dade County’s Art in Public Places.

The Events
Throughout the three day weekend, over 60 different art organizations, culture organizations, non-profits and artists activate their spaces with exhibitions, performances, cocktails meet and greet, art talks, panels and more. New for 2014 is an increased family friendly programming and children activities to accommodate the growing number of families living in Downtown.
Realizing the lack of performing arts in last year’s mix of events, the Miami DDA, in collaboration with the Olympia Theatre, is debuting a series of performance pieces in public areas and venues all around Downtown
As a guideline, here is a schedule for the weekend:
Thursday: Media/VIP Preview of the Fringe and Art Days
Friday: School tours/ Exhibitions openings/ post -work cocktail activities
Saturday: Museum day; art tours and exhibitions
Sunday: Cultural activities/bike tours

The next Downtown Hollywood Artwalk will take place Saturday, August 16th from 7-10pm. During the monthly event, participating Downtown Hollywood galleries and shops stay open late, offering complimentary drinks and appetizers for visitors while hosting artwork from an array of artists who display their work on-site for the night’s special event. Don’t be surprised to hear the sounds of a harp, a harmonica or a trio of ukuleles as live music on street corners complement the event, adding magical sounds to the eclectic scene.

During July’s ArtWalk, ArtCenter 2020, located on Harrison Street, featured artist Daniel
Pontet, who, by popular demand, has become an ArtWalk staple. Pontet entertained the
on-looking crowd with his impulse art, a fusion of music and painting, accompanied by
the rhythmic beats of performers from Hollywood’s own Resurrection Drums. The
dynamic team will excite on-lookers again with fresh work on Saturday, August 16th.

This month’s upcoming Downtown Hollywood ArtWalk features many exciting artists
including Victor- Hugo Vaca II, showing at the Cinema Paradiso Theater on Hollywood
Boulevard. Victor- Hugo Vaca II will be present and will be available to answer any
questions about his art. Internationally acclaimed artist Jose Rementeria will be featured
at the ArtsPark Gallery in Young Circle. Rementeria is best known for his work “Human
Beans,” traveling around the globe as part of the Coexistence Collection by the Museum on the Seam, Jerusalem. The artist will be present to discuss and show his new work.

Gallery 2014 will feature “Nature in Another Perspective” by Mago’z. Several artists will
be painting live in the gallery during Artwalk for visitors to watch.

“The Downtown Hollywood monthly Artwalk provides another opportunity for the
community to visit the Downtown Hollywood businesses, meet working artists and
purchase affordable artwork. This event has a great vibe and pulls in a nice crowd
including art lovers, locals and visitors who enjoy a night out,” comments Lisa Liotta,
Redevelopment & Operations Manager for the Hollywood Community Redevelopment
Agency (CRA).

The event continues to grow and is complemented by The Downtown Hollywood Mural
Project, another Hollywood CRA place-making initiative, where contemporary outdoor
murals are painted at key locations in Downtown Hollywood in an effort to enhance and
enrich the existing cultural fabric of the Downtown Hollywood community, thereby
attracting more art related activities, businesses and events. During the monthly
ArtWalk, mural artists can often be seen painting their murals live. This is a very cool
enhancement that has been noted throughout the South Florida arts community.
