Miami Beach’s own Jacober Creative, an award-winning design and marketing studio, invites the public to a FREE opening night reception and art exhibition, IRL (In Reel Life): From Celluloid to Cellular, Recasting the Classics Through Graphic Design, at the Miami Beach Cinematheque. With favorite films from the 1940s through the 1990s to serve as the agency’s inspiration, Jacober Creative placed their graphic design spin on American film culture, as filtered through the lens of the usually disposable medium of Instagram, recast onto everyday “objects of desire.” On display at the Cinematheque will be a unique range of 3-D showcases for the graphic designs, such as Bkr water bottles with Carrie inspired graphics, Vans sneakers with a design that is a tribute to The Birds, and a lunch box with a Breakfast at Tiffany’s-style graphic.

IRL (In Reel Life) will open with a reception from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 5. The exhibit will run through December 31, and is free and open to the public. In preparation for Hallow’s Eve, Miami local nightlife haven, Rockwell, has announced their 2nd Annual Halloween Freak Show line-up! The eccentrically haunting Halloween Freak Show will take over the venue beginning Friday, October 27th and will continue throughout the weekend on Saturday, October 28th and then again on Monday, October 30th. Partygoers can expect a truly transformed nightlife experience with freak show performers including contortionists and surprise interactive characters! Guests are encouraged to come dressed in their most jaw-dropping Halloween outfits to participate in Rockwell’s costume contest of the most extravagant that’ll take place Monday evening. Then on Wednesday, November 1st, Rockwell’s much-admired “Kiss Me I’m Latin” Wednesday night party will transform into Dia De Los Muertos to close out the Halloween festivities with a truly deadly fête. Party the night away at Miami’s beloved celebrity-loved evening enclave for a spook-tacular like no other!

On October 21st the New World Symphony will present Project 305, a WALLCAST concert unveiling the crowd-sourced symphony of Miami’s unique sights and sounds. The project was launched back in January in partnership with MIT Media Lab and The Knight Foundation.

Over 1,000 submissions from Miami locals were blended together to create the final work by Ted Hearne, Jonathan David Kane and Michael Tilson Thomas titled Miami in Movements representing our city’s astounding range of cultural influences. Before the concert, guests will have the opportunity to engage in activities including backstage tours of the world-renowned Frank Gehry-designed New World Center, a 360-degree virtual reality experience of Miami’s most beloved neighborhoods and numerous pre-performance concerts. The WALLCAST will also be streamed on Facebook Live, so that those unable to attend can still tune-in for the excitement. This unifying community event is free and open to all ages.

Kimpton, Burning Man breakout star, has created a 16-foot tall sculpture that embraces the centuries-old practice of art honoring intellectuals, artists and men of power by mimicking a traditional Roman marble bust. Her gold bust of a female monkey wearing a gold-plated necklace that proudly exclaims BE ART will welcome guests.

Live Tattoo Art by Thea Duskin presented by Ghostprint Gallery (Richmond)
Duskin is renowned for her exquisite watercolor tattoos and will provide live performances at select times throughout the fair, where in addition to working on large, pre-scheduled pieces, Duskin will offer fairgoers the opportunity to acquire an original one-off, single-session tattoo that can be completed in a short amount of time. Priced at $500, they will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Art from Canada presented by the Consulate General of Canada (Miami)
2017 marks Canada’s 150th anniversary since Confederation, and to celebrate, the Consulate General of Canada has spearheaded a curated project by Tranter-Sinni Gallery to highlight works from emerging and established Canadian artists from diverse backgrounds to reflect the rich regional range of Canada’s multiculturalism. Participating artists include Barbara Steinman, John Brown, Paterson Ewen, Wolfgang Kals, Jay Bell Red Bird, Russell Leng, Halina Stopyra, Andrew Maize and Christopher Gorey.

Talk with Art from Canada Artists – Saturday, December 9th at 2pm
On Saturday, December 9th at 2pm, the Consulate General of Canada in Miami and Tranter-Sinni Gallery will host an up-close and personal talk with two artists showing work at AQUA. Jay Bell Red Bird will speak about Canada’s aboriginal people – how they once lived, and continue to live, as loving, caring and peaceful people. He will talk about his time spent with Canadian artist Norval Morrisseau, and how great Canadian artists, including his father, Duke Redbird, have influenced his style and technique. Halina Stopyra will then discuss her work from a healing arts perspective, as well as her technique and intrinsic ability to heal through nature, each other and the universe.

AQUA Moments presented by Black Ship (Miami)
AQUA Moments will re-imagine space through sound, architecture, scent and the visual arts to create new environments that engage audiences to identify with all aspects of their surroundings by curation that stimulates and provokes multisensory satisfaction. As part of this program, multimedia performance artist Bea Pernia will provide the musical atmosphere for the VIP Preview.

Artist and fashion designer Bas Kosters believes that fashion transforms, and as you wear a garment you become part of the art. His illustrations, drawings, paintings and graphic designs all work their way into his fashion creations. His work is a warning about alarming social issues by means of dark humor, while endeavoring to create enthusiasm and happiness on the other hand.

“Which Comes First, the Art or the Fashion?” presented by Morphew (New York)
Fashion and art always have been collaborators, and to this end, Morphew presents an art gallery and shop to showcase the ways in which these two worlds coexist through offering the most avant-garde 20th century designers and artists of luxury vintage fashion. The space will feature an installation dedicated to Keith Haring and his Pop Shop, as well as a collaboration with Kara Ross and Unleashed, where three original Bindi works utilizing vintage textiles will celebrate a collective of artisan women from Bareilly, India who are experts in the art of hand beading. These pieces were created through Unleashed’s work as a global social impact brand that provides women the opportunity to break the poverty cycle through education and job creation.

Join with your friends to see the nationwide advance- screening of Same Kind Of Different As Me. The NY Times bestseller non-fiction book – and now movie – shows us that change in communities starts with recognizing the ways some people become homeless in the first place. You just might be surprised!

The stars of the movie include Academy Award winners Renee Zellweger and Jon Voigt, plus Academy Award nominees, Greg Kinnear and Djimon Hounsou, who portray Ron Hall and Denver Moore, co-authors of the novel by the same title.

Our Red Carpet Screening will give insight to neighborhoods impacted by homelessness with a focus on how we can help one another.

Florida Foster Care Review’s 12th Annual Claws For Kids Luncheon at Joe’s Stone Crab Restaurant is set for Monday, November 6, 2017, 11:30am- 2pm.

Florida Foster Care Review promotes the safety, well-being and long-term success of abused and neglected children through volunteer-driven case reviews and system level advocacy. They contribute to developing a child welfare system that protects, heals, and supports success for the children and families subject to it.

FFCR holds an annual luncheon where Miami’s top community leaders gather at Joe’s Stone Crab in Miami Beach to support children and youth in foster care. To ensure safety and stability of these kids, proceeds from the event will help make sure these abused and neglected children continue to progress. This Halloween do something you’ve never thought possible… Trick or Treat in Miami Beach’s first Ice bar. Explore a winter ice cavern where everything is made of ice, including the glasses you drink out of! Make this Halloween one you’ll never forget as you meet Polar Bears, Spooky Ghosts, and maybe even Elsa from Frozen!

On Sunday, September 24, the Global Arts Project and the Collins Park Neighborhood Association will present their last FREE ArtScape concert of the season from 4-7 PM, in Collins Park, 2100 Collins Ave, starring singer Lisett Morales, “La Mulata del Sabor,” celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. The program will open with a set by students of Gremmy-winning musician and educator Dr Ed Calle, as part of Global Arts Project’s Educational Outreach Program.

Lisett Morales arrived in Miami from her native Cuba and quickly rose to stardom singing for president George W. Bush at The Miami Arena. Lisett made her Off-Broadway debut as an Actress with “Celia (The Life and Music of Celia Cruz).” This role landed her as the lead singer of the “Celia Cruz All Stars”.

She has shared the stage with famous artists such as Jose Alberto “el Canario,” Oscar de Leon, La India, Albita, Tito Puente Jr., Isaac Delgado, Marlow Rosado, Willy Chirino, Domingo Quiñones and many more.

Timmy Regisford is simply put, one of the great legends of dance music. The inception of his internationally acclaimed Club Shelter parties in NYC since 1991 helped pioneer the soulful house music sound that has shaped the face of house music today.

Trinidad-born, Regisford is known for his brand of soulful dance music. He started in 1985 at WBLS radio station in New York City, where he worked as Assistant Music Director, later being promoted to head Music Director of the station. In 1988, he became A&R Director of Atlantic Records, signing such acts as Miki Howard and Levert. His next career step embarked on working for MCA Records as their A&R Director, where he developed artists Loose Ends and Colonel Abrams. He would soon go on to sign acts Guy and Eric B & Rakim. Regisford later became Vice President of A&R at Motown Records, signing acts Milira, Blaze, Basic Black, Today, and Johnny Gill. Along with his A&R work for these labels he is credited in many remix projects with Patti LaBelle, Steel Pulse, New Edition, Bobby Womack, Gladys Knight & the Pips, The Boys, Diana Ross, Gerald Alston and Stevie Wonder. In 1996, Regisford became Vice President of A&R at Dreamworks Records. Timmy Regisford was also one of the founding people behind the Shelter parties in New York City, as well as the resident DJ.

Dark Sky: The Scholar Series

On Friday, August 18, the eco-conscious 1 Hotel South Beach will unveil their monthly Dark Sky series with a brand-new addition – The Scholar Series, featuring environmental educators speaking to today’s most pressing eco-focused issues. Kicking it off this Friday Aug. 18 at 7 p.m., Dr. Wallace J. Nichols will join the hotel in their monthly Dark Sky event by dimming the lobby lights to raise awareness for global brightening.

The night will continue with a special lecture by Dr. Nichols in the Terra Ballroom, explaining the remarkable truth about the benefits of being in, on, under or simply near water. Dr. Nichols is an entrepreneurial scientist, marine biologist, water advocate and author of New York Times bestseller “Blue Mind,” New York Times bestselling author. The famed scientist will be available for book signings and meet and greets after the lecture. The night continues with Los Classicos de Cuba performing live in the lobby until 11:30.

Dark Sky celebration at Tom on Collins in the lobby from 8 – 11 p.m. will offer a specialty cocktail, “Eclipse Over Collins”, available both at the bar and at Watr on the 1 Rooftop. Suggested donations go to Surfrider Foundation Miami Chapter, supporting clean water and healthy beaches.

Honoring the inauguration of the iconic Fontainebleau Miami Beach in 1954, Cellar 1954 is a monthly dinner series that highlights and pairs the world’s most prestigious wines and spirits with the award-winning cuisine of the restaurant’s signature dining spots. For July’s Cellar 1954, StripSteak by Michael Mina will host an exclusive Pappy Van Winkle Dinner on Friday, July 21, 2017. What: Fashion students from Miami International University of Art & Design (MIU) to kick off Swim Week with their Swim/Resort Collection during 2017 Swim Fashion Week. Over 40 future student designers will showcase their creativity and skill with Swim/Resort Wear collection.

Additionally, MIU fashion students have created one-of-a-kind signature crafted resort/swimwear from McDonald’s packaging and paper goods. From Happy Meal haute couture to French fry box cover ups and hamburger wrapper hoodies, this unique McDCouture collection for both men and women will be featured during the school’s annual Swim Fashion Show.

Students from MIU have been hungry for another McDonald’s unconventional fashion challenge since their 2015 McDCouture fashion show whet the appetites of fashionistas around the world. This year, McDonald’s invited students to submit design concepts for men’s and women’s swimwear and is offering a $5000 scholarship for the best signature crafted design. The 20 most innovative looks were selected to be presented as part of the school’s Swim 2017 Fashion Show on Thursday, July 20. The aspiring designers utilized more than 7,000 McDonald’s sandwich wrappers, 2,800 fry boxes, 2,800 straws, 825 soft drink cups, 225 Happy Meal boxes, 2900 sandwich boxes, 1000 Sriracha sauce lids and 300 McFlurry cups to create their McDCouture Swimwear for the runway.
