Honoree’s for Stonewall National Museum, Archives & Library Gala 2024 are iconic athlete, Diana Nyad, who will be added to the Standing on the Shoulders of Heroes exhibit; Stars of the HBO MAX documentary, “The Stroll” will be honored for their film and courage in addressing the harshness of life for so many trans women of color and their strength in survival; Stacy Ritter, president of Visit Lauderdale, who in her role has kept Broward County a warm and welcoming place for all people to visit, live, and work. Her willingness to do what is right, even in the face of extreme political pressure sets her apart from most others in these turbulent times.

Last years’ Gala had a record number of guests and was the organization’s most successful fundraiser to date. The Gala is Stonewall’s largest fundraising event generating a significant part of the organization’s budget.

Start the New Year off right by honoring those resolutions to get fit and be healthy by taking part in the first Annual Resolution Run at JW Marriott Miami Resort & Spa. On Saturday, January 6, 2024, participants can choose between a 5K or Ultra 5K, which ends with a workout at the resort’s Functional Fitness Course and compete for prizes by achieving the fastest times. The run begins at 7AM for the Ultra 5K and 7:15AM for the 5K.

There will be prizes for men and women with the fastest times in both categories and the opportunity to revel in the glory of accomplishment. Those who choose the add-on of the functional fitness course will endure additional challenges like timed planks, blaze pods and tire flips. School is out but Camp STEAMology is in! Children ages 5 – 10 can travel “Around the World” December 26 – 29, from 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

In this four-day program, campers will learn about the different continents of the world diving into the science of zoology, migration and behavioral patterns, weather models and more. They’ll even engineer a coral nursery that is resilient to weather fluctuations. Children will explore different cultures around the world and create an art piece with diverse cultural influences.

South Florida’s award-winning attraction featuring 150,000 square feet of dynamic science exhibits, an outdoor science park, a live animal collection, a rotating schedule of science shows, learning labs, café, store and a grand atrium featuring the Great Gravity Clock, a 52-foot-tall kinetic energy sculpture; the largest clock in Florida. The showpiece of the museum since 1993, this unique timepiece is one of only three in the world.

Children can also visit MODS’ newest traveling exhibit “Thomas & Friends™: Explore the Rails!” Rail. The exhibit was created by the Minnesota Children’s Museum in partnership with Mattel, Inc. and is nationally presented by Fisher-Price.

Fort Lauderdale Beach has never been cooler with the debut of The Wonderland RINK at Las Olas Oceanside Park, a 4,000 sq. ft. eco-friendly, technological marvel that brings the thrill of ice skating seaside, under blue skies and swaying palm trees. In Southeast Florida, the organization’s annual Walk Like MADD & MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K, taking place in Downtown Fort Lauderdale on April 28, 2024, has raised more than $3.7 million since 2011. Under MADD Southeast Florida, hundreds of free events take place each year to educate youth and parents on the dangers and consequences of impaired driving in Broward, Palm Beach, and St. Lucie Counties.

Get ready for a memorable night of legendary Queen hits as the James L. Knight Center in downtown Miami hosts a spectacular QUEEN tribute concert featuring the sensational Marc Martel. One Vision of QUEEN takes place on December 15, 2023, at 8pm and promises to be the highlight of the holiday season.

Marc Martel, the Canadian singer-songwriter, gained international recognition in 2007 with his viral YouTube video of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody.” Known for his vocals almost identical to Freddie Mercury, Martel was selected in 2011 to front the Queen tribute band One Vision of Queen. With extensive global tours and high-energy performances, Martel continues to captivate audiences worldwide.

On December 15, fans will be immersed in the magic of Queen’s greatest hits, including favorites like “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “We Will Rock You,” “We Are The Champions,” “Another One Bites The Dust,” the iconic “Under Pressure” collaboration with David Bowie, and more. The James L. Knight Center will be the epicenter of a night filled with theatrical performances and eye-catching production.

Martel is renowned for his uncanny vocal resemblance to the late Freddie Mercury, so much so that he was cast to sing some of the vocals in the 2018 Bohemian Rhapsody movie. Martel has also appeared on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” and a performed with the surviving members of Queen on “American Idol.”

Tri-Rail’s “Winter Wonderland” presented by Herzog returns to Tri-Rail’s Miami Airport Station on Saturday, December 9, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The free, family friendly event will feature interactive games, food trucks, holiday carolers, face painting, cookie decorating, bounce houses, a coloring station, festive costumed characters, photos with Tri-Rail’s mascot Conductor George Green, and a special appearance by Santa.

Kick off the opening of Gary Simmons: Public Enemy, and Miami Art Week, with a conversation between artist Gary Simmons and exhibition curators Jadine Collingwood, René Morales, and Franklin Sirmans.

Gary Simmons: Public Enemy, co-organized with the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, is the first comprehensive career survey of the richly layered work of Gary Simmons and features nearly 70 sculptures, paintings, photographs, works on paper, and installations, as well as several large-scale wall drawings the artist will create on-site. Simmons, Collingwood, Morales, and Sirmans will discuss how Simmons and his work have played a key role in situating questions of race, class, and identity at the center of contemporary art discourse.

Over the course of his career, Simmons has aimed to expose and analyze histories of racism in visual culture. He has revealed traces of these histories in sports, cinema, literature, music, architecture, and urbanism, while drawing heavily on genres such as hip-hop, horror, and science fiction.

Simultaneous interpretation into American Sign Language, Haitian Creole, and Spanish will be provided.

MODS is open an hour early for sensory-friendly Museum exploration and activities followed by an IMAX film at 12:30 p.m.

To provide a more sensory-sensitive environment for individuals on the autism spectrum, the theater lights will be turned up and the sound will be lowered. All films will be presented in 2D. No trailers will be shown before the movie. Audience members are welcome to get up, sing, walk, dance and shout without worrying about complaints. Celebrating its 40th Anniversary, the Parade will feature all the color, vibrancy, laughter and mischievousness that has been its hallmark for four decades. To that end, this year’s theme – I Can’t Get No DeSantisfaction – is sure to raise a few eyebrows and certainly maintains the parade’s reputation as a tongue-in-cheek, satirical affair.

Feeding South Florida® – the leading hunger-relief organization in South Florida – will host the “Wine and Bourbon Experience” at its Boynton Beach Warehouse on Tuesday, Dec. 5, 6-8 p.m.. Ring in the New Year with a free, beachfront concert with Miami’s premiere professional orchestra, Orchestra Miami! The 42 musicians of Orchestra Miami, led by Artistic Director Elaine Rinaldi, will perform with special guests, The Latin Divos. As part of PAMM Free Second Saturdays, and in celebration of Miami Art Week, join Salvadorian artist Studio Lenca and PAMM Teaching Artist Angela Bolaños, and collaborate on an ephemeral site-specific communal art installation.

Inspired by PAMM collection artist Lenca’s artwork titled Cobijas (bedsheets), visitors can create their own vibrant visual narratives, and hang them for viewing on PAMM’s waterfront terrace. Use symbols and text to connect your personal identities and culture with communities that migrate from their country of origin. Also, visit the WeCount activation and learn about their work in our local community advocating for immigrant rights, as well as agricultural, construction, and domestic workers.

For the rest of the day, you can explore the galleries, grab a meal at Verde, or sit back and enjoy the breeze on the waterfront terrace.

As part of PAMM Free Second Saturdays, museum admission is free all day. Art-making kits are available while supplies last. Art activities are from 11am–3pm.

Pérez Art Museum Miami’s (PAMM) Caribbean Cultural Institute (CCI) kicks off Beyond Representation, a research and exhibition project focusing on performance art practices from the Caribbean and its diasporas, with a two-part program showcasing the rich creative and artistic contributions of Caribbean and Latinx artists to the American avant-garde.

First, watch “¡Fenomenal! Rompeforma 1989–1996,” a documentary about Rompeforma: Maratón de Baile, Performance & Visuales, an experimental dance and performance festival that took place in Puerto Rico from 1989–1996. This screening will be followed by a conversation with film co-directors and pioneer choreographers and performance artists from Puerto Rico, Merián Soto and Viveca Vázquez.

Then, enjoy the reenactment of Vejigante decrépito, a live performance by Puerto Rican visual artist, dancer, choreographer, performer, and Rompeforma participant Awilda Sterling Duprey. Vejigante decrépito draws on the figure of the vejigante, a folkloric character typical of Puerto Rican carnival celebrations.

These works exemplify Gustavo Oviedo’s artistic style with large-scale paintings of organic forms straight from the depths of the ocean’s cosmic consciousness. Reflective surfaces and multisensory installations invite attendees on a transformative journey, encouraging introspection and connection to the vast ocean. The event will include passed bites and complimentary beverages; a pop-up display by emerging luxury handbag brand Piper & Skye, recognized as a global leader in responsibly-made oceanic leather accessories; as well as live entertainment, and an opportunity to meet the artist. Shops at Merrick Park, Coral Gables’ pristine destination for fine shopping and dining, is thrilled to usher in the holiday season with “Santa on the Green.” Beginning on Thursday, November 30, and continuing every Thursday evening until December 21, from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m., the center’s garden area will be filled with lively music and Santa himself, ready for photo opportunities. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early with a blanket or chair to reserve the perfect spot on the green and indulge in the variety of dining and shopping options at Shops at Merrick Park.

The event will showcase a fantastic lineup of live bands, including:
• Streetlight – November 30
• Remix featuring Laura Vivas – December 7
• W’s Band – December 14
• Remix – December 21

Admission to “Santa on the Green” is complimentary and the festivities will continue until Christmas.
