For eight years, Miami’s largest Cinco de Mayo block party took place within the confines of a small area in Brickell. As with most things Miami, the celebration has grown more popular than ever. The chains have now been broken, and much like the 1862 battle between Mexico and France, the people shall be victorious! Cinco de Mayo Brickell’s new location is now situated at 609 Brickell Avenue overlooking the water. Families will have a whale of a time at the 3rd annual Earth Day celebration hosted by the Town of Surfside. Come connect, play, and celebrate beautiful Mother Earth alongside family and friends, while learning about conservation and ways to protect the planet. Festivities to include a community project using recycled water bottles to create a large jellyfish, a rescue bird release in partnership with Pelican Harbor Seabird Station, in addition to turtle-y awesome arts & crafts, henna tattoo artist, light refreshments, DJ and T-shirt giveaway.

At this educational green event, participants will help kickoff turtle nesting season, which typically takes place from May – October in Surfside. Miami-Dade County also will be on-site to conduct a shower head and light bulb exchange. Participants are encouraged to bring an old showerhead and/or lightbulb in exchange for a maximum of two high-efficiency showerhead models and two incandescent bulbs for two CFL bulbs, per household.

Join us for the annual Bike 305 ride on the future Underline! This year, the 10-mile ride will begin at Dadeland North Metrorail Station and ends at the River Day Festival at Lummus Park on the Miami River Greenway. The annual River Day Festival will have dozens of offerings from food to historical tours on the banks of the river. The return bike trip is not escorted, but, you can always opt to take your bike back on the Metrorail!

Meet up at Dadeland North Metrorail station at 11AM to check in. We will depart promptly at 11:30AM and continue towards Lummus Park. Helmets, bike in good working order, a signed ride waiver and FUN are required. No headsets or earphones please.

Grillin N’ Chillin kicks off BBQ season with a full-blown countryside event that’s free for the entire family. Whether you’re craving backyard barbecue spare ribs, a southern brisket or a mouthwatering pulled pork sandwich, Grillin N Chillin has compiled 40-50 BBQ vendors from around town offering everything from Memphis style barbecue to Brazilian churrasco. Sprung! is back for 2018 at a new Wynwood location, offering the unlimited craft beer samples everyone craves, and a brand-new theme. The 2018 Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run presented by Turkish Airlines, a three circuit 5K (3.1 mile) Run Walk, will once again wind its way through the streets of Downtown Miami. Known as “Florida’s Largest Office Party”, the run is open to employees of businesses, corporations, government agencies, financial institutions and non-profits – regardless of company size – and incorporates a special competition to award the overall men’s, women’s and co-ed teams in 20 different industries. The 2018 Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run presented by Turkish Airlines, a three circuit 5K (3.1 mile) Run Walk, will once again wind its way through the streets of West Palm Beach. Known as “Florida’s Largest Office Party”, the run is open to employees of businesses, corporations, government agencies, financial institutions and non-profits – regardless of company size – and incorporates a special competition to award the overall men’s, women’s and co-ed teams in 20 different industries. Beginners can “ease into exercise” with friends and gain inspiration and motivation to continue walking and running to improve overall health, while competitive runners have the opportunity to shine amongst their co-workers and lead the corporate team to victory.

As part of the tri-county race circuit, $1 per participant of the West Palm Beach run will benefit United Way.

As part of the Living Together Performance Series, The Maggic Banquet, a participatory food-performance by the internationally acclaimed Miami and Barcelona-based artist Antoni Miralda, will celebrate our city’s diverse cultural heritage by tracing the culinary history of Maggi, the ubiquitous and universal seasoning brand. Presenting dishes from the kitchens of Miami’s various ethnic groups—all made with Maggi—in an altar-like buffet, Miralda explores the commodification and globalization of food and tradition. Accompanied by music, a special beverage, and a zine published with recipes in English, Spanish, and Creole, The Maggic Banquet will turn the terrace of EXILE Books into a food-for-thought artwork.
Born in Terrassa in the province of Barcelona, Spain, Antoni Miralda has been using food as his art medium since the late 1960s. He often creates public and ritual events centered in popular culture and traditions, especially culinary ones. The Honeymoon Project (1986–92), was an international series of ceremonial and participatory actions at multiple sites that imagined the wedding of New York’s Statue of Liberty with the Columbus Monument in Barcelona, two diametrically opposite icons of freedom and conquest. Since 1971 Miralda has lived and worked in the U.S., and since 1993 has spent much of his time in New York and Miami, where he started FoodCultura, a project that includes archives and collections, and that produces exhibitions and events around the world which explore the subjects of food diversity and its relation to culture. He was the subject of major retrospectives at the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid in 2010 and the MACBA in Barcelona in 2016.

Pedals up! Join First Presbyterian Church of Fort Lauderdale for the sixth annual Habitat for Humanity Bike to Build event. The bike route begins at the church and heads east down Las Olas Boulevard. The 25-mile ride continues north on A1A, turning around at the Hillsboro Inlet. The 50-mile ride continues north, turning around at Linton Boulevard in Delray Beach. There will be a delicious post-ride brunch for all participants from 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Jungle Island returns to The Wynwood Yard for an afternoon of arts and crafts, as well as conservation education. Both the Jungle’s animal residents and its education team will be there to support the beautification projects throughout Miami and its local parks.

Hidden secrets revealed by Barry Fellman’s Mangrove Coast photos will be on view in an invited installation at this year’s Art Miami Fair. Open free to the public during Miami Art Week, new photos from this multi-year project will be presented in a specially designed shipping container at the entrance of Art Miami. The installation, part of the Deep See project, will invite viewers into an immersive water focused experience. 
 
Felllman’s images seduce you, inviting you closer to understand them.  As you approach they clarify into familiar forms of sea grasses and shells, while basic notions of scale and distance remain a mystery until your nose is nearly pressed against the photograph. You then realize you are looking at a wondrous and fantastic view of the shoreline, full of secrets and mysteries.
 
The mangrove ecosystem provides shoreline protection and serves as the economic base for the recreational and commercial activities that have made South Florida prosper.  It recycles nutrients and is the breeding and feeding grounds for hundreds of species, nurturing a wide range of marine life, amphibians, birds, and mammals. 
 
Mangrove Coast at Art Miami is one of four invited components of the Deep See project highlighting awareness about climate change, sea level rise and marine conservation.

With Pinecrest Gardens’ botanical stage as his inspiration, Dougherty spent 19 days, twisting and weaving willow tree saplings into a magnificent sculpture. Basel House Mural Fest To Become the Epicenter Of Street Art During Art Basel

The RC Cola Plant and surrounding Wynwood neighborhood will become the “epicenter of the graffiti world” during Basel House Mural Festival. Over the course of four days, there will be 40+ mural projects and 60+ top street artists from across the globe painting large murals across six city blocks in Wynwood Art District, including a digital arts and VR playground that will bring art to life. The FREE block party will offer live painting, unique art installations, live music, late-night DJs, artists, a vendor market, and food trucks. Ride with others to local grocery stores to purchase specified non-perishable goods. Each participant is asked to spend a minimum of $10 worth of food which will be donated to the Camillus House at the ride’s conclusion in Omni Park.

What is new this year?
Expect some positive changes in 2017. We’re starting the ride from Omni Park in downtown Miami, this is the home of the Magic City Bicycle Collective and they will be on hand pumping up tires and doing last minute tune-ups. We have updated the route and added a few new grocery stores to visit, keeping it fresh for everyone. We will also be celebrating The Miami Bike Scene 10 Year Anniversary with an afterparty at Omni Park. Beer will be provided to participants and anyone who donates at least $10 worth of non-perishable goods at the park.

The journey starts on Sat. October 28 at 12 noon (Actual Main Halloween Party is from 7pm – 4am). Though, we will be partying on the Island until late Sun. October 29 ( Last boat rides to mainland at 5:45pm)… RAIN or SHINE!

WHAT IS INCLUDED WITH MY TICKET PURCHASE?

You purchase your tickets for the boat ride to the island and as a courtesy we will provide all the music, fun people, performers, entertainment, and anything else that is included with your respective ticket(s), during your stay on PACHANGA ISLAND (Yes, the island is bare with no amenities or furniture; however, we will have makeshift toilets on the island and also there is one on the boat/ferry)… You can attend just the main party on Saturday (7p – 4a), or you can come earlier during the Saturday (boat rides start at noon), and you can also stay for the afterparty until Sunday (6pm). During the Miami Downtown Development Authority‘s annual Art Days Weekend 2017, residents of all ages throughout greater Miami are invited to experience the global walking movement called Jane’s Walk.

On Saturday, Oct. 14th neighborhoods within the Miami DDA’s boundaries – including Brickell, Downtown, and Omni – are going to feature several free, citizen-led walking tours where attendees can actively connect with friends and neighbors outdoors, while engaging in conversations with one another and learning more about the ways arts & culture have and will impact the area.

These kind of walks, inspired by a writer and activist from the 1960s named Jane Jacobs, have engaged tens of thousands of people all over the world in 200+ cities since 2007. Earlier in 2017 Jane’s Walk (aka #MiamiWalks) held 7 unique walking tours across Miami which 75+ residents attended, and we’re looking forward to meeting lots of new people!

Grovetoberfest is back in the Grove, and it’s bigger than ever. For the past six years, the festival has served up one of the top craft beer events in the country, attracting close to 7,000 beer enthusiasts eager to drink unlimited samples of 400 beers from hundreds of breweries, all while listening to Live music. This year, festival organizers worked closely with Coconut Grove Commissioner Ken Russell to move back to where it all began in Peacock Park, and the news has been met with great excitement.

To celebrate, Grovetoberfest has put together a great lineup including “first time” pours from 81 Bay Brew Company, Aslin Beer Company, Hidden Springs Ale Works, Lord Hobo Brewing, Ocleot Brewing, and Proof Brewing Company. Some returning heavyweights include 3 Sons Brewing Co., Octave Brewing, and Odd Breed Wild Ales. Also returning will be Angry Chair Brewing, Civil Society Brewing, and J. Wakefield Brewing. In addition, Grovetoberfest will have treatments from LauderAle Brewing, 26° Brewing Company, and 81Bay Brewing Co. The Homegrown Pavilion will delight beer drinkers with a collection of up and coming Florida brewers.

This year, the festival’s Kitchen Lab will be presented by Macy’s. The chefs, who will be conducting demos that pair well with beer, hail from Grove Bay Hospitality Group and include Chef Jeff McInnis and Janine Booth from Stiltsville Fish Bar, Chef Brett Hessler from American Harvest, Chef Jeremy Ford from Stubborn Seed and Chef Giorgio Rapicavoli from Glass and Vine.

The VIP Lounge will be hosted by Chef M from Latin House Grill and as in the past, VIP ticket holders have access to certain perks not available to the general ticket holder such as early entrance, specialty brews, covered seating area and air-conditioned bathrooms.

What better way to kick off Stone Crab Season than to enjoy it by the sea at the iconic Miami Marine Stadium with seafood vendors, live Caribbean beats, a family fun zone, mojito bars, and more! The Coconut Grove Seafood Festival is a waterfront celebration of all things seafood. Come explore Miami’s historic downtown like an architect! See our city’s landmark buildings through an architect’s eyes, using a sketchbook and pen. Learn to draw by sketching some of downtown Miami’s historic landmarks, like the Dade County Courthouse, the Church of Gesù and the old US Post Office Building, home of MCAD! This 2-hour course is open to beginners and novices of all ages who love architecture and want to explore it through drawing.

Monster Jam competitors are trained at Monster Jam University in mastering the skills needed to compete in the series. Approximately 12 feet high and about 12 feet wide, Monster Jam trucks are custom-designed machines that sit atop 66-inch-tall tires and weigh a minimum of 10,000 pounds. Built for short, high-powered bursts of speed, Monster Jam trucks generate 1,500 to 2,000 horsepower and are capable of speeds of up to 100 miles per hour. Monster Jam trucks can fly up to 125 to 130 feet in distance and up to 35 feet in the air.

In synergy with the Million Orchid Project, the ongoing effort by Miami’s Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden to grow one million rare, native orchids and reintroduce them to South Florida’s urban spaces, Miami Design District, Island Planning Corporation, and True Tree Service, have collaborated to create a blooming ecosystem of rare epiphytes in the heart of Miami. We invite the community to join Miami Design District officials and Fairchild staff on Wednesday, June 21 at 5:00 p.m. for a ceremonial planting to launch the two-year program to plant over 2,000 native orchids in trees and plots in select urban areas. While previous plantings involved municipalities and schools, The Miami Design District is the first neighborhood destination to partner with Fairchild in the Million Orchid Project.

Having been decimated over the last century, these rare species are being gloriously reintroduced at the intersection of Paseo Drive and N 39 and N 40 Streets as part of a sweeping, large-scale horticultural installation by IPC of several-hundred specimen trees. This canopy of mature, native trees (from which the new orchids will hang) creates an ideal micro-climate for the region’s endangered species and enhances an already lush urban environment.

The ceremony will be followed by happy hour at OTL to celebrate the landmark moment. Guests are also encouraged to visit the Market #atMDD located in Jungle Plaza from 4pm to 9pm which will feature Fairchild’s STEMLab. STEMLab is a decommissioned school bus transformed into a state-of-the-art botanical propagation lab that gives visitors the opportunity to participate in the Million Orchid Project.

This two-hour walking tour highlights several of downtown Miami’s best historic buildings, most of which are on the National Register of Historic Places. Tour begins with a brief introductory presentation at MCAD, itself located in the 1912 Old Post Office Building at the center of the City of Miami’s Historic District and covers a three-block area in the core of the Central Business District. Whether you are an architect or just love architecture, this tour is for you!

Tour departs from MCAD rain or shine. All tickets are $20 or $15 for seniors and students. Each adult ticket admits one child under the age of 8 for free. Advance reservations online are required. Tour begins promptly at 10:00 AM, however please arrive at 9:50 AM for check-in. All sales end at 6:00 PM the day prior to the tour. Come explore Miami’s historic downtown like an architect! See our city’s landmark buildings through an architect’s eyes, using a sketchbook and pen. Learn to draw by sketching some of downtown Miami’s historic landmarks, like the Dade County Courthouse, the Church of Gesù and the old US Post Office Building, home of MCAD! This 2-hour course is open to beginners and novices of all ages who love architecture and want to explore it through drawing.

Tours are limited to 12 participants and sell out quickly. Tickets are $20 for AIA & AIAS members, $25 for seniors and students, $30 for all others. For the past couple of years, South Florida has celebrated Colombian Independence Day at MegaRumba Colombia. SWARM and iHeart’s Tu 94.9 have revamped the festivity into an all-encompassing celebration with a broader reason to celebrate at MegaRumba: Celebrate YOUR Independence. This coming July 15, celebrate YOUR culture at the, free, all-day event in Wynwood — Miami’s most culturally dynamic neighborhood.

The free festival will run from 3PM to 3AM. It will focus on South Florida’s rich and vibrant melting pot, with special attention to its deep musical influences. People can expect to see activities for all ages throughout the day with programming moving into a full-blown concert as the day progresses. Handpicked art/craft vendors and food trucks will be available until the very end, offering a little bit of everything that makes South Florida so unique and tasty. During this family-friendly beach picnic, locals can kickoff the weekend with a visit to Surfside’s pristine beach for a number of fun activities. Enjoy a tepee village, an interactive drum circle, a Bahamian Junkanoo marching band and a fashion showcase from Miami-based boutique BASK and designer Sonia Trussardi Sepe. Locals also can nosh on fresh ceviche and quench their thirst with coconut water courtesy of Harmless Harvest – all while basking in ocean breezes and listening to Caribbean steel drum music.

The Town of Surfside invites Miamians to pack their picnic baskets for a family-friendly Moroccan Beach Picnic to kick-off the town’s much-anticipated monthly First Fridays event on Friday, May 5. Unlike any other community event, this casual soiree takes place on Surfside’s pristine beach and is a great way to experience the ever-evolving area like a local. Enjoy live Middle Eastern music, belly dancers, drum circle and tipi village for kids, cold-pressed juices, coconut water courtesy of Harmless Harvest, and healthy snacks. For a hint of beachside couture, luxury women’s fashion boutique, Le Beau Moroc, plans to showcase new seasonal Moroccan designs during a fashion show on the sand. Not to mention, guests can take refuge from the sun under ornately designed oversized tents. The Moroccan Beach Picnic is scheduled for 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on May 5, 2017 at the Oceanfront Community Center, located at 9301 Harding Avenue in Surfside. This is the first of a series of four events, which will be held every first Friday of the month, from May until August. The CULTRA spaceship lands in newly christened Omni Park Miami for the April edition.

Our ringleaders this month are the quirky kids of Front Yard Theatre Collective who have been improv-ing their way to greatness for seven years. We’ll start with the usual 90 minutes of open mic time from 7:30 – 9pm followed by a feature performance from our rambunctuous hosts!

Wynwood will see the streets come alive for the fourth annual Wynwood Life! It is held in Miami’s Art and Cultural District and is a true celebration of all things we love about South Florida – Food, Art, Music and Fashion! Wynwood Life is proud to have the Miami Art & Design Education Institute (M.A.D.E.) as the presenting sponsor, because M.A.D.E is known for elevating people’s art and design career to the next level by way of their industry-driven approach to education, through coaching, mentoring, and networking in the heart of Miami’s Art District. In addition, WYN 317 Gallery will be the gallery partner as well as being on the selection committee.

Over 20 bands and DJs will occupy the Live Music Stage featuring local favorites and hometown bands gone big such as Otto Von Schirach, Tamboka, Jeano Music, Hoy Palloy, Zander and many more.

The Style Lounge will offer free services including nail polish changes, a braid station and Henna. The Spot Barbershop will have a pop up for the men, and stylists will showcase multiple fashion shows by local boutiques, fashion bloggers including iShine365, Dyme Lyfe, graciouslylovedllc, Koko and Palenki, to name a few.

The Wynwood Culinary Showcase will feature top restaurants and chefs from the area providing teachable moments such as Chef Cesar Zapata from Phuc yea, who will teach us how to cook a whole fish. This year, the stage will also invite South Florida chefs outside of Wynwood who are taking the culinary scene to a higher level. Scheduled to make demos are Max Santiago, Bunnie Cakes, Crave Clean, Copper 29, and more. The Bitter Truth will have a pop up where they’ll carve the ice for each cocktail with a chainsaw, and they will also compete against Employees Only to come up with the “Best Cocktail” at Wynwood Life.

Live Music at Mickel, a monthly public concert series hosted by the City of Wilton Manors, is putting on its last show of the year! Join us for April’s free outdoor concert featuring local band The New Planets, who will perform alternative rock reminiscent of The Beatles and U2. This is a musical event the whole family will enjoy! Food trucks will be present and beverages will be available for purchase, so come hungry and get ready for a beautiful evening under the stars.
