It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and nothing sets the Holiday Season into full swing more than the lighting of Downtown Miami’s Christmas Tree. The iconic 50-foot tree that sits in the middle of Bayfront Park will serve as the center and focal point of the Bayskate roller-skating rink at Bayfront Holiday Village. On Saturday November 30, it will receive a celebrity filled countdown and illumination worthy of a million twinkling lights. South Florida celebrities and dignitaries will be on-hand to light the tree and set the LED animation into musical motion, including Mayor Francis Suarez of the City of Miami and Commissioner Joe Carollo, Chairman of the Bayfront Park Trust. The tree will trip the light fantastic to three different festive musical shows produced by Grammy winner, A.T. Molina, who is the original producer/creator of the Burrito Sabanero mix. Enrique Santos from Tu949 will join Sasha Jones, Consumer Investigative Reporter for NBC 6 and Alejandra Molina, News Anchor at Telemundo 51, to host the event, along with Santa Claus, who is scheduled to arrive in Miami fashion via a yacht. Together, they will make sure that this tree will continue to serve as Santa’s guiding light to Miami.

“This is a special tree, because after the initial lighting ceremony, we will have mini lighting ceremonies every night all the way through Christmas. Not just every night, but every hour,” says Tony Albelo, SWARM CEO and event organizer. Each night starting at 6PM, the park will become quiet, the music will rev up, and the tree will display one of the most beautifully animated light shows ever sequenced. Those who miss the initial tree-lighting ceremony on November 30, will have an opportunity to experience it again and again while enjoying hot cocoa and churros or sipping seasonal cocktails such as the Peppermint Mojito, Mistletoe Mule, White Christmas Margarita or Winter Bourbon Smash at the North Pole Beach Club.

The lighting of the 50-ft animated tree at Bayfront Holiday Village will mark the opening of this picture-perfect, outdoor, holiday venue filled with larger-than-life holiday displays, waterfront roller-skating, local vendors, nightly music and top food and drink offerings. Whether you’re chilling at the North Pole Beach Club, partaking in the Gnauhty Gnome Scavenger Hunt, or taking a selfie with Santa, there’s something for everyone!

Shops at Merrick Park will present its 16th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony with Santa’s Arrival, sponsored by Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, on Thursday, November 21, at 6 p.m. One of the largest tree lighting ceremonies and holiday celebrations in South Florida, the event will include the 50’ tree-lighting, live entertainment, interactive activities, retailer pop-up stations and the highly anticipated appearance by Santa Claus.

The popular event is centered around a majestic 50-foot tree adorned with 55,000 colorful twinkling bulbs. Shops at Merrick Park will transform into a winter wonderland with live performances by the Miami Royal Ballet, Coral Gables High School Choir & Band and Miami Senior High School Marching Band plus greetings from holiday characters, giveaways and more. Shops at Merrick Park retailers will pop-up throughout the garden with special promotions and gifts.

One of the event highlights is Santa’s grand arrival down San Lorenzo Avenue on the Coral Gables Fire Department’s fire truck. Master of Ceremonies Belkys Nerey, award-winning co-anchor of WSVN Channel 7 News, Coral Gables Mayor Raúl Valdés-Fauli a/nd Nicklaus Children’s Health System Interim President and CEO Matthew Love, will flip the magical switch to illuminate the tree, signaling the official start of the holiday shopping season. Shoppers can view and pose with the holiday tree through early January 2020.

“The only thing missing out of this Hallmark-perfect scene will be the frigid snow, but that’s why we invite our neighbors from the north to come here to enjoy Bayfront Holiday Village, Miami-style,” added Albelo.

Every night, a fully decorated, 50-foot state-of-the-art, animated Christmas Tree will feature hourly LED light shows sequenced to three different festive musical shows produced by Grammy-winning producer A.T. Molina.

New York has The Rink at Rockefeller Center, but Miami’s answer to cold-weather ice skating is Bay Skate, where adults and children can boogie to the beat of freestyle, tropical, contemporary pop and more. In the Northeast, peo-ple are ice skating and sipping hot cocoa wearing parkas. In Miami, we roller skate and sip mojitos in shorts. The Shops will offer a collection of 60 artisans in a jovial setting, each offering unique gift ideas to check off the “nice” list! Foodies will delight their senses at Bayfront Bites, where they’ll find seasonal beverages, sweet treats and food ga-lore!

The adventurous will participate in the Gnauhty Gnome Scavenger Hunt as they navigate Bayfront Park using guidebooks with clues to solve this year’s puzzle. John David Jackson (born November 18, 1977), known professionally as Fabolous, is an American rapper from Brooklyn, New York City. Jackson’s career began when he was a senior in high school and ended up rapping live on American record producer and music executive DJ Clue’s radio show, then on Hot 97. Jackson was subsequently signed by DJ Clue to his label Desert Storm, and later secured a distribution deal with Elektra Records. Fabolous’ first release, Ghetto Fabolous (2001), spawned the hit singles “Can’t Deny It” and “Young’n (Holla Back)”, which led Jackson to prominence. His second release was 2003’s Street Dreams, which was supported by two Top 10 singles “Can’t Let You Go” and “Into You”.

Including the aforementioned songs, Jackson has released a string of hit singles, such as “Trade It All, Pt. 2”, “Breathe”, “Make Me Better”, “Baby Don’t Go”, “Throw It in the Bag” and “You Be Killin’ Em”. Moksha Indian Brasserie, a new Indian restaurant offering a contemporary dining experience in east Fort Lauderdale, is excited to host its second “Dine & Give” night as a part of its grand opening celebration. Moksha will support the Slow Burn Theatre Company by donating 40 percent of the evening’s dining proceeds on Tuesday, October 15, from 5 to 10 p.m.

Created in 2009, Slow Burn Theatre Company is a locally based professional theatre company with a mission of providing South Florida’s diverse population with opportunities to experience high quality, challenging, contemporary works of musical theatre through attendance, employment, and/or educational and community outreach programs. It’s 10th anniversary season starts during October 2019 with “Shrek: The Musical.”

The 11th annual Fort Lauderdale Edition of the OUTshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival is a bi-annual film festival designed to inspire, entertain, educate and encourage a sense of community through international and culturally diverse media that offer historical and contemporary perspectives on the LGBTQ+ experience. Presented by Gilead, Broward County, and Culture Builds Florida, this year’s hotly anticipated film festival will spotlight 33 stirring, contemplative, comedic and creative full-length features plus 18 inventive shorts from 13 countries, panel discussions with filmmakers and talent, and various parties and special events. Films will be screened at the Museum of Discovery & Science AutoNation® IMAX 3D Theater (401 SW 2nd Street) the Classic Gateway Theatre (1820 East Sunrise Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale) and Savor Cinema (503 Southeast 6th Street).

The festival kicks-off with an October 10 Opening Night showing of the comedy “Adam,” directed by Rhys Ernst, at 7 p.m. at the Museum of Discovery & Science AutoNation® IMAX 3D Theater. This lively coming of age comedy of errors follows a young high-schooler as he navigates life, love and Brooklyn’s young LGBTQ+ community. Offering something for everyone, the festival will host a Ladies’ Spotlight Film and Party featuring “Carmen & Lola” at 7:15 p.m. and after-party at 9:30 p.m. on October 12 and a Men’s Spotlight Film & Party featuring “From Zero to I Love You” at 7:15 p.m. and after-party on October 19.

This year, the OUTshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival Fort Lauderdale is also pleased to host “And Then We Danced,” directed by Levan Akin of Sweden and up for consideration as best international feature for an Academy Award, as its closing film on October 20 at 8 p.m. at Savor Cinema. An estimated one in eight U.S. women is expected to develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. While these statistics are alarming, individuals and organizations across the nation continue to do their part to fund vital research seeking a cure. This October, Blue Martini Fort Lauderdale is teaming up with AutoNation, America’s largest automotive retailer, to raise awareness for breast cancer as part of a month-long charitable drive, marked by a new signature event, the Rosé Garden Party on Saturday, October 19, from 8 to 11 p.m. at The Galleria Fort Lauderdale location. Proceeds from the ticketed event, which will feature live entertainment, drink specials and raffles, plus sales from specific drinks all month long, will benefit the Dolphins Cancer Challenge.

The Dolphins Cancer Challenge (DCC) was founded in 2010 by the Miami Dolphins organization as the signature initiative of the Foundation’s health area. The DCC’s mission is to improve people’s lives through financial support for innovative cancer research at South Florida’s only academic-based cancer center – Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, part of UHealth — the University of Miami Health System. Since its inception, the DCC has raised more than $27.5 million, donating 100 percent of participant-raised funds to the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. AutoNation is a proud sponsor of the event.

This month-long effort coincides with AutoNation’s partnership with The Galleria at Fort Lauderdale. Starting October 1, two gigantic pink reindeer will be prominently displayed throughout the entire month on the exterior of the mall to signify National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. A pink themed vehicle will be displayed with the reindeer. This partnership underscores AutoNation’s commitment to driving out cancer. Through its DRV PNK Intiative, the company has raised more than $20 million for cancer research and treatment, placing its iconic pink plates on every vehicle it sells and services from coast to coast.

The month-long fundraiser will be marked by the Rosé Garden Party, a festive soiree featuring signature sips and culinary treats, plus raffles for designer giveaways and spa packages from sought-after brands and premier experiences.

Admission for this ticketed event includes entrance, a glass of Rosé or a signature Pink drink and a raffle ticket. Tickets are available to be purchased online for $15 from September 2 through October 19 at www.rosegardenpartyftl.eventbrite.com. Tickets are also available for purchase at the door for $20. Additional raffle tickets can be purchased for $10 each. Fifty percent of proceeds from the pre-sold online tickets and 100% of proceeds from the raffle tickets will be donated to the Dolphins Cancer Challenge.

Heart Gallery of Broward County launched in 2007 as a traveling photography exhibit of foster children who were waiting to be permanently adopted and has evolved to work closely with ChildNet and local foster care providers to seek adoptive families and other connections for these children. Now in its 6th year, this event, the largest and most successful fundraiser that the organization hosts, benefits not only the children, family and partner organizations it serves, but the whole community.

Terence Blanchard and the E-Collective collaborate with choreographer Rennie Harris’ company, Puremovement, and sculptor/projection mapping artist Andrew Scott to create Caravan: A Revolution on the Road, a new work expanding on themes explored on the first E-Collective recording and tour.

These artists have created a multi-disciplinary performance that transcends racial and social boundaries and breathe new artistic life into conversations on personal and collective identity in relation to social and political structures. Following the release of Breathless, an elegy for Eric Garner, Blanchard expressed that ‘we’ve been having dialogues for far too long with no actions, no change.’ The forceful, yet inclusive energy of this new project encourages the audience to make yet another step toward positive social change.
