The SaludArte Foundation announced today the opening of their new exhibit The Global South: Visions and Revisions from the Brillembourg Capriles Collection, during Art Basel Miami Beach. The exhibition will take place at Mana Wynwood from November 30th to December 4th, 2016. Curated by Adriana Herrera and Adolfo Wilson, it creates a nonlinear, non- chronological narrative about the history of geometric abstraction in Latin America and Ibero America. The exhibit brings together works of diverse times and generating new approaches to the way history has been told from the global north. Some of the pieces will be activated daily with music and dance performances by the Lisarco Collective. These performances invite the audience to interact with the collective providing them with a unique insight on the philosophy and mission of SaludArte, which is to bring art to everyone without boundaries or limitations of any kind.

Curated by Tumelo Mosaka, the AOT series is themed “SAY IT LOUD!” and will feature work by prominent contemporary artists Michael Paul Britto, Myra Greene, Joshua R. McFadden, Mario Pfeifer and Roberto Visani, and films by Bhawin Suchak & Ira McKinley and Stanley Nelson. “SAY IT LOUD!” is inspired by the James Brown song of the same name that addresses racial discrimination and calls for black empowerment. The call in this context is a rallying cry for all to mobilize against injustice and discrimination, as well as embrace black culture pride in the United States and African Diaspora. Photographer Rena Effendi documented the living conditions of various refugee camps for those fleeing from the conflicts in the Middle East. She visited camps in Lebanon, Jordan and saw thousands stuck in a limbo by the border in Idomeni, Greece. Syrians, Iraqis, Afghans along with others were on their way to Europe, escaping the violence of war back home. More than twelve thousand people are currently stuck in a limbo, languishing in a wretched camp by the border. What once was a chance for a better life – the Crossing Point – has become a metaphor for human resilience at the face of hardship. Rena’s photographs capture not only the tragedy of this epic crisis, but more importantly, they capture the fortitude of the human spirit. In her own words, she is not looking to evoke pity and compassion only, but rather, respect and admiration for these people that have endured so much. Proceeds from the sales of The Crossing Point will benefit The Radcliffe Foundation Refugee Crisis Fund, which has been actively responding to the on-going refugee crisis by providing humanitarian aid to refugees in places like Greece and Turkey.

Miami, FL – October 25, 2016 – For the second consecutive year, Miami Parking Authority and Beefree Media are coming together for the award-winning Wynwood’s Park-Your-Art contest. Eight artists will be chosen to publicly paint a Pay-and-Display machine and seemingly unite the Wynwood community through this event.

Much like the 2015 contest, we are seeking emerging and established artists to submit an original artwork proposal that falls under the theme, “Wynwood United.” The theme will embody community members and businesses coming together.

To further our commitment to our community, we will also include new “little artists” and install artwork submitted by Miami-Dade elementary school students in restaurants, retail stores, art galleries, etc. to promote this initiative and bring hundreds of families to Wynwood.

“One of the many social benefits of art is the way it can unite and transform individuals and communities. At Miami Parking Authority, we are proud to be part of a project that builds community and enhances the lives of the people we serve,” said Alejandra Argudin, Chief Operation Officer.

Artwork will be judged upon the following criteria: originality of content, technique and creative interpretation of theme. Winners will be designated one Pay-and-Display machine that they will paint live on Saturday, November 19th, 2016. In addition, the machines will be covered with an anti-graffiti lamination so the design will stay fresh and unharmed.

“Not all communities rally around an event, but most will rally around a cause,” said Stuart Lujan, Managing Partner at Beefree. “This amazing project allows for the Wynwood community to contribute and grow stronger together.”

The artwork will be visible through the 2016 Miami Art Basel season and will remain displayed until the following Wynwood’s Park-Your-Art contest in 2017.

Miami Parking Authority and Beefree Media encourage people from throughout the U.S. to participate, get creative and engage the community. Submissions close on Friday, November 4th, 2016.

Chor Boogie returns to Miami with his latest political, multimedia works featured in American Banned, an art exhibition at Wynwood’s Macaya Gallery.

Three renowned contemporary artists, Chor Boogie, Stuart Sheldon, and Ashley Reid, present uncompromising visual political and social commentary in American Banned. Essentially nonpartisan, the collective body of work provokes political discourse, spurs citizens to participate in the political process, and examines systemic violence, racism, and oppression. Chor Boogie, one of the world’s foremost masters of the spray paint medium, will premier a series of original paintings, prints, and multimedia works: In God We Trust.

The exhibition features the diverse work of nine contemporary Cuban artists working in painting, sculpture, photography, video and installation that centers on two fundamental questions the artists ask themselves when discussing their country and their work, ‘how do others see us?’ and ‘how do we see ourselves?’ Q & A offers a multifaceted critical vision of Cuba through the eyes of these young artists, who invite us to observe, reflect and engage in an open dialogue. MDC Museum of Art + Design is pleased to present Sunkoo Yuh, Grafted Stories, featuring large scale ceramic sculptures by the South Korean born artist Sunkoo Yuh, curated by Miami Gallerist Mindy Solomon.

Sunkoo Yuh’s first museum solo exhibition in Miami will feature large scale ceramic sculptures, porcelain tiles and works on paper. Created over a twelve year period, the pieces interweave a tale of cultural integration, spiritual discovery, and creating order out of chaos. Yuh states: “The body of my work as an artist is to transform the images from my mind into tangible ceramic sculptures. The sculptures are sometimes monumental and then again sometimes small. My ceramic sculpture express not only physical realities but psychological realities at the same time, the sculptures also reflect my relationship with people and life experience around me, encompassing front and back, inside and outside, present and past memories”.

Yuh’s work is a reflection of the ongoing dialog he has with his day to day life. A cast of characters inform each sculpture and drawing- forming a bridge between his imagined reality and the travails he experiences as a bi-cultural citizen and artist. In essence the work is the “residue” of his attempts at securing a sense of permanency in a fluid world.

SunKoo Yuh is currently Associate Professor at the University of Georgia, Athens. He received his MFA from Alfred University. He has exhibited widely and has received many awards and honors. In 2005-03 he was the recipient of the Joan Mitchell Foundation grant, the Grand Prize at the 2nd World Ceramic Biennale International Competition, Icheon, Korea, The Elizabeth R. Raphael Founder’s Prize and the Virginia A. Groot Foundation. His work is in the collections of the Smithsonian Institution, Icheon World Ceramic Center, Korea, Oakland Museum of Art, California, and more.

Gulliver Schools is set to host EdCamp Miami on Saturday, November 12, where educators from diverse backgrounds will meet to discuss topics and ideas they wish to gain and contribute knowledge to.

Free and open to all educators, the event will be completely participant-driven, allowing attendees to focus on areas of education that are most important to them. Participants will write down the topics that interest them the most on sticky notes and paste them on a communal board. Help Raise Funds for Hurricane Matthew Relief
Local businesses come together to organize a bake sale where all funds will go to help the women and girls of Haiti

This year South Florida residents were very lucky that Hurricane Matthew missed them. After seeing the devastation in Haiti, Daniella Biffi, Managing Director and Founder of Pollen Theory- a local PR firm, decided to bring together local businesses and members of the community to donate their products and services to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Matthew at a local bake sale.

Every last penny donated will go to Heart to Heart International, who’s PowrServ program helps women and girls by donating ”Women’s Hygiene Kits.” This organization is recognized for its dedication to strengthening communities by improving health access, humanitarian development and administering crisis relief worldwide. This charity ranks amongst the highest on the Charity Navigator website.

Bake Sale Information:

Why: Women and girls are particularly vulnerable in the developing world when there’s a crisis situation like a natural disaster. We wanted to focus our efforts in helping them deal with Hurricane Matthew’s devastation with dignity.

What: All proceeds will go to the PowrServ program, who puts together the women hygiene kits. Each kit includes: 2 pairs of underwear, 2 reusable menstrual pads, washbowl, 2 bars of soap, 4 condoms, a whistle, crank flashlight, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, Band-Aids, hand towel, wash cloth, nail clippers and the following educational materials: Menstrual Health, Stay Safe Use a Condom, Pad Use/Care, Stay Healthy Wash Your Hands.

The kits cost $20 each and are invaluable to these girls. Our goal is to raise enough money to provide 100 kits to the women and girls of Haiti.

Charles currently teaches jazz trumpet at Michigan State University. “As a person in the new world, I’ve been influenced by so much music. And my family has a mixed background of French, Caribbean, Spanish and African roots…. I come from a a fusion of rhythms, a fusion of cultures. That’s what this band is all about: a jazz-based focus on Creole soul music that is Creole at heart.”

The Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami (MOCA) is offering a monthly series known as Creative Arts 4 Kids, which occurs the first Saturday of every month. These creative art classes are offered for kids ages 6 through 12. Each month, the class will have a different theme to help kids learn about the elements of art through painting, drawing and sculpting activities in the style of renowned artists.

For November, the theme is Things Appear When Uncovered, inspired by Banksy. The activity for the children is Stencil Compositions. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to stay and create with their children.

The spookiest time of year is coming up soon, and that means costumes, candy and Halloween parties. East Flagler Street will close off from vehicular traffic on October 29th from 3 p.m. to 1 a.m for an adult, children and pet-friendly block party with various installations and activities, Downtown Fright Night: A Halloween Spooktacular. Kids will be able to partake in countless activities including trick-o-treating at the event’s participating vendors, face painting, arts and crafts, inflatable rides and a kids costume contest. More adult friendly activities include a “Hex your ex” station (where you can cast a spell on your ex by taking a shot), adult costume contest, and several bars of which you can find a spooky cocktail unique to Downtown Fright Night! The time has come for the annual October National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, when pink is the color of choice, and at Tino’s, pizza is no different. The local eatery is joining the masses to spread awareness and generate donations by hosting a pizza-making event where guests can create their very own pizza pie with pink sauce. The event will be held at 6:30pm and 8:30pm on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016. For only $22 per person, guests can enjoy the hands-on pleasure of crafting their own pizza using a variety of fresh ingredients with custom-made pink pizza sauce. Five dollars of each ticket purchased, as well as any donations, will go to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness and advancing the research knowledge on both the causes and treatment for breast cancer. For more than 35 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade has been selling Christmas trees and wreaths to help bring holiday cheer into many South Florida households. The tradition continues in 2016.

One-hundred percent of proceeds from the tree and wreath sales will benefit Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade, which serves thousands of boys and girls in Miami-Dade County with positive programs year-round.

To kick off the 2016 selling season, Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade will hold a grand opening ribbon cutting ceremony at the Hank Kline Club tree lot on Monday, Nov. 21 at 4 p.m. Attending will be Santa Claus himself to visit Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade children, local dignitaries and Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade board members and representatives. The new Kendall Jazz Club will be performing Christmas favorites.

The trees, gorgeous Fraser firs hand-selected in North Carolina by Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade’s President Alex Rodriguez-Roig, stand 5- to 14-feet tall with a starting price of $55. Plain and hand-decorated wreaths are also available starting at $35.

Tree lot open seven days a week, starting Nov. 21 until trees are sold out 9 a.m.–9 p.m.

Young Artist Initiative (YAI), Miami’s newest artist driven concept presents Design and its Dimensions, a curated sensory exhibition on Friday, October 28th, 2016 at The Moore Building organized by the Young Artist Initiative in partnership with the Miami Design District.

For its next exhibition, YAI has carefully selected Design and its Dimensions as the conceptual base for live art and activations. Design has been the force of evolution since the birth of innovation and has accompanied the development of our culture over the course of history. Its precise yet flexible nature has been the power behind our greatest civilizational advancements, from the creation of industry to the mapping of cities.

The Young Artist Initiative (YAI) aims to create a dialogue by instilling Design and its Dimensions as the conceptual base of its next exhibition. All participating artists and designers are being presented with the challenge of interpreting the exhibitions central thesis: how do we design the fourth dimension?

YAI invites you to enjoy and ponder the reflections of Miami’s Collective of Young Artists at Design and its Dimensions on Friday, October 28th 2016 at the Moore Building. The event starts at 8 p.m. and goes until 3 a.m.

The Miami Design District, the brainchild of Craig Robins, is a creative neighbourhood dedicated to innovative fashion, design, art, architecture, and dining. The Moore Building, located in the heart of the Design District, is a unique exhibition space with four floors of arcades spaces totaling more than 21,000-square-feet. On permanent display in the atrium is the site-specific installation “Elastika”, created by Zaha Hadid.

What: An art exhibition and exclusive conversation with Ivan Depeña regarding the intersection of art, music, and climate change.

As part of Spotify’s recently launched “Clarify” initiative and video series aimed at getting millennials engaged on the issues and voting come November, Spotify is hosting a series of free cultural events in eight different cities centered around key issues that resonate with millennials such as student debt, income inequality, immigration and gun control. Spotify is working with a different visual artist in each city to create a custom piece of music-inspired art that reflects the issue being discussed that week on Clarify, an original audio and video series that will explore the intersection of key issues and will feature today’s hottest musicians including Diplo, Prophets of Rage, Vic Mensa, Talib Kweli and more.

On Tuesday, October 18th, they’ll be hosting multimedia artist Ivan Depeña at 11 11 for an exclusive art installation that explores climate change through art by building a series of ice sculptures that will melt throughout the installation, including as a backdrop for the open discussion and community event. Ivan specializes in combining various types of media to create his art work, allowing for his designs to push the ultimate boundaries of art, installation, interactivity and media/technology.

The Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami (MOCA) is delighted to announce Ignacio Berroa as part of the monthly Jazz at MOCA series. The Cuban-born drummer has been praised through the years for combining folkloric rhythms with contemporary jazz and funk, along with being recognized as one of the greatest drummers of our time. Through his many years of performing, Berroa has collaborated with a number of legendary artists including Dizzy Gillespie, McCoy Tyner, Jackie McLean, Jack Bruce, Wynton Marsalis and Jaco Pastorius to name a few.

Berroa released his first solo album, “Codes,” in 2006, which was nominated for a Grammy in 2007. The album also won a Danish Music Award in 2007 for “Best International Jazz Album.” He stands proud on the recent Blue Note Records Mp3 entitled “Jazz Drumming Legends” which features some of the most renowned drummers in Jazz history. The public is invited to come sit under the stars and enjoy the Afro-Cuban rhythms by Ignacio Berroa.

PINTA Miami is gearing up for its 10th anniversary celebration, which will take place from November 30 to December 4, 2016 at MANA Wynwood, located in the heart of the Miami Arts District. This edition will be the pinnacle of ten years that have left a mark on the world of modern and contemporary art from Latin America. In order to further our mission, PINTA Miami’s curatorial committee has expanded its project to include galleries from around the globe while maintaining a conceptual dialogue across all cultures, connecting Latin America to the rest of the world.

Launched in New York in 2006, the fair is considered the most important event of its kind. The founding of PINTA Miami was a milestone event in awareness of twentieth-century Hispanic-American art. It has increased the visibility in the United States of crucial figures like Julio Le Parc, José Gurvich, Jorge Eielson, Lydia Okumura, Antonio Manuel, Waltercio Caldas, Ivan Contreras Brunet, Carlos Cruz-Diez, and Spanish artist Elena Asins—all of whom have been featured in its exhibitions and galleries. Emerging contemporary artists like Elias Crespin, Ivan Navarro, Alexandre Arrechea, Dario Escobar, Matias Duville, Alejandro Londono, Gonzalo Fuenmayor, José Luis Landet, Ricardo Alcaide, Emilio Chapela, and many others have also participated in the fair. Through innovative management strategies, PINTA has been instrumental to major museums’ acquiring works by Latin American artists. A few examples of such acquisitions include a piece by Abraham Palatnik purchased by MoMA for its permanent collection; a work by Elias Crespín purchased by The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and a work by Fernando Bryce purchased by the Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (MALBA).

“Thanks to its impressive programming, PINTA Miami 2015 was extremely well attended. Our curated sections featured not only works by a range of legendary artists, but also recreations of historical performances. The fantastic selection of participating galleries from Latin America, Spain, and Portugal built new relationships with international collectors and directors of art institutions, enabling a great many sales,” states Diego Costa Peuser, the founder and director of PINTA Miami. “There was great interest in figures like Romulo Aguerre, Reynaldo Luza, Roberto Obregon, and Elena Asins, and in artists born after the sixties like the Carla Arocha – Stéphane Schraenen duo.”

PINTA Miami 2016 will be more international and interdisciplinary. Thanks to their successful sections at last year’s edition, curators José Antonio Navarrete, Roc Laseca, and Jesus Fuenmayor will return this year to curate sections on photography, drawing, and solo projects respectively. This edition aims to continue to provide a platform for its participants and to further the fair’s mission of showcasing pioneering artists and discovering young talents.

In addition, PINTA Miami launches the Young Collectors Desk, an initiative of Guijarro de Pablo Art Consulting. The objective is to provide to the assistants -already avid collectors and enthusiasts of art – with the necessary tools to maximize the experience at the fair. The Young Collectors Desk aims to educate and give attendees the opportunity to explore the world of the arts with guided tours that focus on the construction and maintenance of a coherent and sustainable collection. The initiative is directed by Jimena Guijarro, who combines her knowledge of strategic communications with her experience and passion for the visual arts. One of her specialties is to introduce and facilitate the collecting processes to newcomers to the art world.

PINTA Miami is directed by Diego Costa Peuser, CEO and Editor in Chief of Arte al Dia Internacional magazine. He is also the founder and director of PARC – Peru Arte Contemporaneo, BAphoto (Buenos Aires Photo), and the Buenos Aires and Punta del Este editions of Gallery Nights. The 27th annual edition of Art Miami kicks off the opening day of Art Week on Tuesday, November 29th, with a VIP Private Preview to benefit Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) in the Art Miami Pavilion (3101 NE 1st Avenue, Miami, FL) sponsored by Christie’s International Real Estate. Aqua Art Miami, the sister satellite fair to Art Miami, will celebrate its 12th edition at the Aqua Hotel (1530 Collins Avenue Miami Beach, FL 33139), from Wednesday, November 30th to Sunday, December 4th, 2016. The time has come for the annual October National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, when pink is the color of choice, and at Tino’s, pizza is no different. The local eatery is joining the masses to spread awareness and generate donations by hosting a pizza-making event where guests can create their very own pizza pie with pink sauce. The event will be held at 6:30pm and 8:30pm on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016. For only $22 per person, guests can enjoy the hands-on pleasure of crafting their own pizza using a variety of fresh ingredients with custom-made pink pizza sauce and enjoy a complimentary glass of rosé. Five dollars of each ticket purchased, as well as any donations, will go to the Susan G. At Fairchild’s Howl-o-ween guests can take advantage of a great opportunity to enjoy the Garden with their dogs as they parade through Fairchild’s lush surroundings all the while showing off their Halloween costumes. Guests and their dog can hop on any of the trams, make it a doggie tram ride! Now that’s something to wag your tail about!

Howl-o-ween Rules:
To protect our plant collections, please keep your dogs on the path or on grassy areas. Dogs are not permitted to walk onto planting beds.

The Seventh Annual Gables Hispanic Cultural Festival offers activities for the entire family, including a main stage with acts from diverse countries, an art boulevard, a children’s play pavilion with bounce houses and face painters, consulates representing various countries, culinary artists and food vendors. We will also have a Bacardi lounge, a wine lounge, and a cigar lounge. The Miami Marlins and the Miami Dolphins will also have a special area with activities.

Xtreme Action Park presents “Xtreme Scare Park,” THREE haunted theme park attractions that will take place Thursday-Sunday and one Monday from Oct. 13, 2016 – Oct. 31, 2016 from 7:30 pm till Midnight.

Xtreme Scare Parks attractions are designed by experienced scare master, Brandon Von Kittendorf, the creator of Festival of Souls (Demon Mansion), voted Florida’s Scariest Haunted House by Hauntworld.com & Terror in the Jungle at Jungle Island. This Halloweens XTREME production will feature THREE gut-wrenching haunted attractions totaling over 20,000 SQFT of FEAR.
Attractions include: Asylum of the Damned – Deranged and Psychotic patients have taken over the Asylum and no one knows what happened to the staff. Nightmares – The Awakening – What if your nightmares awakened and became real life. Could you survive your worst nightmares? Catacombs – Ancient Evil Unleashed – Our ancestors buried Evil secrets, but someone dug up an Ancient artifact unleashing its wrath!

ArtServe presents Open Mic Tuesdays hosted by the inimitable Michelle Rose Domb! We welcome talent from all walks of life: actors, singers, musicians, dancers, spoken word poets, comedians and more. There’s a mic, a barstool, a spotlight… all we need is you!

Show begins promptly at 7:00 pm. Time slots fill up FAST. It is highly recommended that artists register for the event in advance.

Solo talent is designated up to 8 minutes. Group talent is designated up to 10 minutes. Respect the time given/share your time by sticking around after your performance= respecting your fellow talent. We all love playing to a full house!

Sound check will be made available on a first-come first-serve basis from 5-6pm.
Bring your instruments — house PA provided.

Steinway Piano Gallery of Coral Gables will host a FREE double-header performance with award-winning Serbian pianist, pop singer-songwriter Ana Nikolic and eight-year-old rising star Jana Koenig from Vienna, Austria at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 28. Presented by the International Music Foundation for Highly Gifted Children, the concert program will include works from Schubert, Liszt, Debussy, Mozart and Diabelli.
