The Salvation Army of Broward County invites artists, designers, DIY hobbyists and home décor enthusiasts to restore, redesign, rehabilitate or repurpose furniture and home accessories to help homeless individuals in Broward County. Redesigners will donate the pieces which will be available for purchase during the Salvation Army’s Annual Red Shield ReDesign Bash at The Galleria at Fort Lauderdale on Friday, October 11, from 6 pm till 9 pm.

“The Salvation Army of Broward County is excited to present this creative fund-raising event that benefits our vital programs and services,” said Major Stephen Long, Area Commander for The Salvation Army of Broward County. “It is an honor to work with the stars and heroes supporting our mission and those we serve.”

The event will showcase furniture and home accessories that are transformed into one-of-a-kind art pieces. Event attendees will have the opportunity to bid on their favorite redesigned and repurposed treasures during the evening of food, drinks and fun. Proceeds from the auction and event will support the many shelter, feeding, and case management programs at The Salvation Army of Broward County.

A panel of prominent community figures will judge and award entries in the categories of Most Collectible, Most Creative and Best Re-Purposing of Materials. The 2019 People’s Choice will be determined by those in attendance.

Kick-off your Independence Day weekend celebrations with a note-worthy performance from the gifted young artists of the Miami Classical Music Festival. Since its 2013 inception, the Miami Classical Music Festival (MCMF) has been proud to establish Miami as a premier destination for elite young classical musicians seeking the highest level of musical training from the world’s leading classical artists.

The performance will include a 65-piece orchestra and four Broadway solo singers. The orchestra will appear on Lincoln Road as a pop-up performance and gradually grow from a few musicians to a full-scale orchestra. Following the pop-up portion, the orchestra will perform a concert with Patriotic and Broadway standards, including West Side Story Selections and Glitter and Be Gay.

John was the force and spirit behind Sweet Liberty, and an example of selfless and charitable action. History Fort Lauderdale, proud steward of our community’s past by making our heritage accessible and engaging to residents and visitors, will host its New River Marketplace on Saturday, July 27, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. The New River Marketplace will continue to run on the fourth Saturday of each consecutive month on the historic campus, in front of the New River Inn (231 SW Second Avenue) and along the Riverwalk.

Set under the shade of historic live oaks, the Marketplace will feature more than 52 vendors offering a selection of original art, antiques, furnishings, collectables, clothing, jewelry, luxury bath fixtures and more. Vendors will also showcase specialty plants including orchids and succulents plus pet supplies, organic food and natural health and beauty products. Gourmet bites and beverages will be available to purchase onsite. Live music and a tattoo artist will add another artistic dimension to this community event.

History Fort Lauderdale, proud steward of our community’s past by making our heritage accessible and engaging to residents and visitors, will launch its New River Marketplace on Saturday, June 22, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. The New River Marketplace will continue to run on the fourth Saturday of each consecutive month on the historic campus, in front of the New River Inn (231 SW Second Avenue) and along the Riverwalk.

Set along the banks of the New River under the shade of historic live oaks, the Marketplace will feature more than 52 vendors offering a selection of original art, antiques, furnishings, collectables, clothing, jewelry, luxury bath fixtures and more. Vendors will also showcase specialty plants including orchids and succulents plus pet supplies, organic food and natural health and beauty products. Gourmet bites and beverages will be available to purchase onsite. Live music and a tattoo artist will add another artistic dimension to this community event.

Admission to the New River Marketplace is free, however, guests are encouraged to take advantage of History Fort Lauderdale’s renowned tours and museums. General admission is $15 for adults; $12 for seniors and $7 for students (through age 22 with a valid student ID). Admission is free for members, military and children ages six and under. This summer, Boulud Sud Miami has invited four chefs from Café Boulud, part of the Daniel Boulud family of restaurants, for a collaborative culinary journey. All guests who purchase regular park admission to Miami’s iconic eco-adventure attraction will be automatically upgraded to a FREE Summer Pass, which is valid through September 30, 2019. With the 2019 Summer Pass, guests can cool off at the all-new Jungle Splash, offering water slides and paddle boats for youth ages 2 – 13. Dominoes are no longer found just on Calle Ocho, the Miami cultural pastime is making its mark as a mainstay throughout the Magic City. Every Tuesday from 7PM to 11PM, La Placita will host Domino Night tournaments inviting local chefs to compete for the Golden Pilon. Also open to the public, the outdoor space will transform into a Latin piano bar with a pianist taking requests, complete with a cigar roller.

Each week, the restaurant will set up La Lechonera pop up where guests will have the chance to select different foods displayed and cooked on the spot. Miami’s premier wellness center, Anatomy, is teaming up with Miami Dade Animal Services to help save the lives of abandoned pups that need new loving homes! On Saturday, June 15th, Anatomy Midtown invites all (members + non-members) to connect with, adopt and fall in love with a pup during the HOPE Express on-site pet adoption event and donation drive. Each year, over 27,000 animals are abandoned at Animal Services. Helping Our Pets Everyday (HOPE) is the mission of the HOPE Express mobile pet adoption unit that regularly visits different communities to help find new homes for their precious shelter pets. Anatomy is proud to partner with Miami Dade Animal Services in bringing this very special event to their Midtown location from 8AM-12PM. During this time, Anatomy will also be hosting a complimentary ‘Midtown Mashup’ 90-minute workout class, open for all to join. CMN presents RESONATE: A Polyphonic Prospect, a special pop-up exhibit featuring contemporary works of art that aspire to the condition of music; the exhibit focuses on the role played by music in the visual arts, featuring works that have been inspired by music, and interpretations of different genres of music through various art forms.

Family Days, held on the last Sunday of every month at the Museum of Art and Design at Miami Dade College (MOAD MDC), offers free admission and hands-on educational activities to families with children. This monthly event features artist-led workshops, interactive gallery tours and other activities designed for everyone in the family!

Family programs are tailored for children ages 5 to 12 and their families or adult companions. MOAD MDC’s Family Days will enhance your experience of the Museum’s current exhibitions, as well as Miami Dade College’s Special Collections Galleries at the Freedom Tower.

Announced by the American Advertising Federation (AAF) as the official corporate sponsor of its 2019 National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC), Wienerschnitzel is providing a “real-world” marketing challenge to over 2,000 advertising and marketing college students nationwide who had to develop and pitch an integrated campaign to a panel of industry judges. The final leg of the competition will be hosted at The Diplomat Beach Resort in Hollywood, Florida in conjunction with ADMERICA, AAF’s national conference, from June 6 – 7, 2019.

Only the top eight teams who qualified from districts and semi-finals will compete in the finals, moving the best of the best forward. Finalists include Columbia College Chicago, Ithaca College, Johnson & Wales University Providence, Liberty University, South Dakota State University, Southern Methodist University, Syracuse University and University of Alabama. The winning team will present its marketing campaign at the NSAC Awards Luncheon on Friday, June 7, followed by a key note speaker from Coca-Cola.

Designed as a mango lover’s festival, Bingo, Bango, That’s My Mango promises to be a juicy jubilee celebrating Miami’s favorite seasonal fruit, as well as local community farms and purveyors. The event is free and open to the public.

Held at Miami Beach’s first food hall nestled just off Lincoln Lane, Bingo, Bango, That’s My Mango is a family-friendly event featuring unique programming, entertainment, live music, food sampling, games, live demonstrations, shopping from local artisans and a mango contest where locals compete to win prizes and a Mango trophy.

Each of the Lincoln Eatery’s 13 food purveyors will create a custom, mango-inspired dish showcasing different varieties of mango from various local farms. Patrons are invited to sample as many recipes as possible through a fun Bingo style game called M-A-N-G-O where one crosses off squares as they taste for a chance to win prizes.

Locals are encouraged to submit their homegrown mangos into a mango tasting contest with a celebrity panel of judges, where winners take home prizes for biggest, smallest, ugliest and juiciest mango. Surplus mangos will be collected and donated to the Miami Rescue Mission.

Saturday June 15 at 8:00 PM: Genre-bending icons and Raul Midón and Lionel Loueke join forces to present a special night of incredible guitar and vocal wizardry. The acclaimed instrumentalists-singers will perform individual sets of original material in an evening that will culminate in an unforgettable jam backed by Loueke’s dynamic trio.

Raul Midón is celebrated as one of music’s most distinctive and searching voices. Heralded as a “one-man band, who turns a guitar into an orchestra and his voice into a chorus,” (NY Times), Midón has collaborated with Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder and even Snoop Dogg. Blind since birth, Midón produced-engineered his first Grammy-nominated album, Bad Ass and Blind, which confronts the challenges of blindness and musical composition. Midón’s 2018 follow-up release, If You Really Want, was nominated for a 2019 Grammy award in this same (Best Vocal Jazz) category.

Lionel Loueke brings his West African (Benin) roots and world music experience to jazz to color his unique phrasing as a guitarist and vocalist. A Herbie Hancock protégé for the past 10 years, Loueke has also recorded and toured with varied instrumentalists and vocalists. Praised by Hancock as “a musical painter,” Loueke combines harmonic complexity, soaring melody, a deep knowledge of African folk forms, and unconventional guitar techniques to create a warm and evocative personal sound. Paul Simon raves that Loueke is “one of a rare handful of guitarists who move effortlessly between his West African roots and modern American Jazz”, and Sting cites Loueke as “one the most original, essential and inspiring musicians on our planet today.”

Dominoes are no longer found just on Calle Ocho, the Miami cultural pastime is making its mark as a mainstay throughout the Magic City. Every Tuesday from 7PM to 11PM, La Placita will host Domino Night tournaments inviting local chefs to compete for the Golden Pilon. Also open to the public, the outdoor space will transform into a Latin piano bar with a pianist taking requests, complete with a cigar roller.

Each week, the restaurant will set up La Lechonera pop up where guests will have the chance to select different foods displayed and cooked on the spot. Inspired by the Lechoneras of the mountains in Puerto Rico, the menu will be finished with local ingredients and chef Mendin’s personal touch. Specials will include all food for under $10, Cuchifritos for $5, craft cocktails for $7, specialty cocktails for $9, Medalla beer for $2, and Don Q rum cocktails for $5.
