Freedom! El Sexto Live Art Installation in Miami 7/3/18

Freedom! El Sexto Live Art Installation in Miami

Rácket
150 NW 24th St,
Miami, Florida 33127
Website
Cost: Free

Who: rácket, a new upscale bar and lounge located in the heart of Wynwood, brought to the neighborhood by the same team behind Miami Beach’s Drunken Dragon and Foxhole Bar, Homecookin’ Hospitality Group. rácket features two indoor and one outdoor room with unique environments and bar concepts for an elevated experience. El Sexto, meaning The Sixth (a poetic reference to the controversial five spies/“heroes” of Fidel Castro released by the US after the thaw) is a Cuban artist and social activist. El Sexto is arguably the most important dissident visual artist in Cuba today. El Sexto, also known as David Maldonado Machado joins forces with racket

What: Being located in the most artistic, culturally dynamic neighborhood, rácket holds high devotion to the art community. The eclectic venue is pleased to welcome Cuban artist El Sexto, also known as Danilo Maldonado Machado, to rácket’s weekly Homecookin’ party as a pre-Independence Day celebration.

The event will revolve around El Sexto’s live painting performance, which will transcend the radical Cuban politics with infectious energy, humor and freedom. His art breaks down barriers with its humane expressiveness and universal appeal, but goes far beyond the dichotomy of political systems. With the state of our country’s human rights cloudiness, El Sexto represents freedom of expression through his art, a nonviolent form of activism. Art is a universal language that unites humans from all different backgrounds with one common ground, creativity. Attendees will be able to meet the artist as he will be present throughout the night. El Sexto’s art on view will be for sale. In addition to his visual presentation, ladies drink free from 11:00 pm to 1:00 am, and snacks will be served throughout the night by Homecookin’ host since 1995, Shelley Novak.

When: Tuesday, July 3rd 2018
Live painting begins at 11:30 pm
Ladies drink free from 11:00-1:00 am

About rácket: Think elegant Wynwood mixed with eclectic entertainment and sophisticated craftsmanship. Upon entering the venue, one is greeted with a covered-atrium featuring a tiki-inspired rum and tequila bar. As you continue into the main room, guests revel around a central sky-lit, live wood-edge, rolled steel island bar. The atrium is artfully decorated with cozy couches and a laid-back ambiance, while the main room represents an electrifying atmosphere with an industrial ceiling, skylights, and great music. rácket offers an ever-evolving experience with each room offering a different environment, as well as a different cocktail menu. The tiki-themed bar in the atrium specializes in tequila, rum and mezcal, with about 100 options to choose from. The main sky-lit island bar offers seasonal ingredient craft cocktails and a selection of neighborhood beers. The bar and lounge has a variety of entertainment including a pool table, a jukebox offering a range of self-select music, and projectors that are dropped to show music videos, sporting games, and more. rácket is open 365 days a year from 1PM to 3AM and offers a daily happy hour from 4PM to 8PM. For more information, visit www.RacketWynwood.com.
About the Artist: El Sexto, also known as Danilo Maldonado Machado, is considered Cuba’s number one dissident artist. His dramatic exhibition was featured on every major outlet including The New York Times. Since 2008, he has not only brought his unique form of graffiti across the streets, alleys and decaying buildings of Havana, but has managed to produce an amazing body of paintings under increasingly intolerable conditions. Painter, graffiti artist, performance artist, master draftsman, dissident, pacifist, Havel Prize laureate, political philosopher and social media phenomenon: El Sexto is also a hero. He reconciles his life and his art, both showman and shaman. Above all, El Sexto’s essential medium is freedom and the world is his studio – even prison. His very name, El Sexto (“The Sixth” in Spanish) is a direct reference to the Cuban Five who were elevated to national heroes by Castro’s propaganda machine in 2014, after being released from a US prison on charges of spying. Now free and working in Miami, El Sexto is highly recognized and admired for his work, and prompts the public to share his stellar journey.

A founding principal of METALAB, a multi-disciplinary design firm in Houston, Texas, Joe Meppelink pursues resiliency and sustainable technologies. In response to extreme conditions with a lack of grid power, hurricane force winds, and storm surge flooding, Meppelink and METALAB have invented and deployed a range of tactical and technological responses. These projects range from a containerized, solar-powered, off-grid field office to modular farming and growing systems to elevated hurricane-resistant housing systems. While each of these addresses a critical issue, Meppelink finds that a similar ethos informs other projects (such as public parks and a fleet of river boats) in unexpected ways.

How can cities tackle climate change and inequality at the same time? Surprisingly, research shows that guaranteeing housing affordability is key to effective climate policies in cities. Considering the cities of Sao Paulo, New York and others comparatively, Aldana finds that urban climate policies have failed because of a general political inability to address race and class inequalities.

About the Conference

With less than 10 biosimilars approved by USFDA, the drug class is still in to infancy. However, market penetration rate is quite high with more biologic products going off patent. Amgen Inc.’s (AMGN) Amjevita, a biosimilar of AbbVie’s (ABBV) Humira (adalimumab) secured FDA approval in September 2016, but is yet to be marketed due to legal hurdles. Production bottlenecks are the second most obvious challenge since biosimilar manufacturing is complex, as the drugs are derived from living cells. This often leads to higher manufacturing costs and concerns about scalability potential of the manufactured biosimilars. Nevertheless, pricing is an important parameter requiring optimization. Pfizer Inc. (PFE) secured approval for Inflectra (infliximab-dyyb), its biosimilar of Johnson & Johnson’s (JNJ) Remicade, in April 2016. However, the price of Inflectra is only 15% lower than that of Remicade, and the much-anticipated launch dented the hopes of deep discounts from biosims. Generics usually cost 80% less than branded drugs.

With so many challenges in research, still class of drug is experiencing the maximum funding with great Returns on Investment (ROI). Keeping these points in mind we are organizing the 13th International Conference on Biologics and Biosimilars during October 24-25, 2018 at Boston, USA with the theme: Emerging Trends in Biosimilars Approvals, Market and Pricing.

Conference Series LLC Ltd invites all potential participants across the world to join the 13th International Conference on Biologics and Biosimilars which is going to be held during October 24-25, 2018 Boston, USA.

This year we are proud to have the following Guest Speakers: Dr. Phyllis Baker- Professor Emeritus of the Social Sciences, at the Wolfson Campus of Miami-Dade College. Our theme this year is intuition. INTUITION What is it? One of the dictionary definitions is “the ability to understand something immediately, without the need for conscious reasoning.” We all have it but so few of us use it. In fact, we too often ignore it, leading to unnecessary pain and suffering. So, what if we could teach our children how to tap into this powerful gift? Could they avoid some of the pitfalls that the adults around them experience? Hmmm…
This year, Dreamcatchers for The Soul’s 6th annual Lotus Workshop, will go beyond the dictionary meaning to make our children—and their families too—aware of the truth that INTUITION is not just a “woman’s thing”. It is a Divine Power; a built-in GPS given to all of us to help us find our way.

Louis Vuitton opens a special pop-up store at Miami Design District dedicated to the FIFA World CupTM Official Licensed Product Collection. The pop-up store will be open to the public from June 14th through July 15th and designed with the collection’s inspiration in mind.
The pop-up store features unique versions of Keepall and Apollo bags and a selection of small leather goods inspired by the legendary Official Match Ball of the 1970 FIFA World CupTM. Made with the House’s iconic Epi leather first introduced in the 1920s, the styles will be proposed in up to three colors combinations.
The hexagon design is created using a three-stage embossing procedure that is both innovative and based upon the House’s historic savoir-faire, allowing each colored hexagon to have a richly textured feel, reminiscent of classic footballs. For a more exclusive version, a “Made-To-Order” Keepall is proposed in a rich palette of 8 pentagon colors. Each of them can be associated with one of the 5 colors of trimmings to create a Keepall in the colors of almost any national flag. Completing this sophisticated offer, an Epi leather luggage tag could be embossed with one of 35 national flags, including the nations taking part in the competition.

The new pop up store will present a unique, limited-edition FIFA World CupTM Official Match Ball Collection Trunk that is set to become an instant collector’s item. Based on the House’s traditional wardrobe trunks, it opens to reveal a stunning collection of 14 footballs: 13 reeditions of the Official Match Balls used at FIFA World CupTM tournaments since 1970, all fabricated especially for this project by Adidas, and one Louis Vuitton designed football.

We invite you to join us at #BackroomSessionsVolume8 on June 23rd 2018 to experience the Culture being Pushed by the Platform. Enjoy Live Performances, Visual Artists, Vendors, & Food all night while BRS curates your fix for a Local Dose of Talent.

Just the other day, a small Visual & Performing showcase consisting of a couple of friends in a local restaurant took place. A handful of inexperienced artists who had an itch to create with nowhere to go, curated their craft by collaborating on that eventful night. Little did we all know that our efforts would plant a seed that catalyzed a movement that is still here today.

#BackroomSessionsMIA

Living to its name, Backroom Sessions MIA (BRS) highlights the Behind-The-Scene locals who contribute their heritage and creative direction to the City that they were raised in. Ranging from Jazz Bands to Comedy, immersive in Visual experiences & live painting, Backroom Sessions has proven to be a key player for Artists across South Florida. Hosting talent from Homestead to West Palm Beach, BRS goes Up & Beyond to actualize their mantra of

“Putting The Bottom Of The Map, ON The Map”

What began in Kendall as an effort to highlight the locals that miss their spot in the limelight grew into a lighthouse for creativity that honed those who felt at home with the Arts. Rather than riding the wave until crashes, Backroom Sessions has been able to make their own splashes across Miami with residential Artist Management & Programming at Partner Venues such as Sidebar Miami (Brickell), The Jezebel Bar + Kitchen (Lincoln Road), Lincolns Beard Brewery (Westchester), The Fire & Ice Bar (South Beach), 1FiveTwo (Kendall), The Fish House Miami (Olympia Heights) Up 2 Something Studios (Wynwood) as well as Sponsorships by Redbull, Blick Art Materials, & Party Cake Miami. As Backroom Sessions “Puts The Bottom Of The Map, On The Map”, it is clear that the support & love by the community has helped the city come together for a much greater cause, a Modern Day Renaissance.

Make Music Day, the annual global celebration of music on the summer solstice, returns this year on Thursday, June 21 with more than 4,500 free outdoor concerts, music lessons, jam sessions and other exciting music-making events being held in over 70 U.S. cities in 31 States. New York City, Los Angeles, Austin Boston, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Hartford, Madison, Miami, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Philadelphia, Salem (OR) and Nashville are among the numerous cities hosting major celebrations – as well as the entire states of Vermont and Connecticut – in what has become a worldwide phenomenon observed by hundreds of millions of people in 800 cities in 120 countries.

Completely different from a typical music festival, Make Music Day celebrates and promotes the natural music maker in all of us, regardless of ability. Reimagining their cities and towns as stages, every kind of musician – from bucket drummers and opera singers to hip-hop artists and marching bands – pours onto streets, parks, plazas, porches, rooftops, gardens and other public spaces to celebrate, create and share their music with friends, neighbors and strangers.

Launched in France in 1982 as the Fête de la Musique, Make Music Day is presented in the U.S. by The NAMM Foundation and coordinated by the nonprofit Make Music Alliance. This year Make Music Miami, a collaborative effort of Buskerfest Miami, the Rhythm Foundation and Guitars Over Guns will expand on its previous iterations to take over all of Miami Dade County, including the Mama Mia! Sing-Along Truck, a roving karaoke station in the back of a pickup truck, a house party in Westchester, over 30 performances on Lincoln Road, and even an experimental music performance of Dean Rosenthal’s Stones/Water/Time/Breath in the Amelia Earheart Park.

Other highlights include webcasting of live performances to multiple Miami-Dade Public Library locations (for weather-proof viewing pleasure), a specially-curated live DJ set for the morning commute by DJ Le Spam, as well as Mass Appeals that gather large groups of musicians to participate in impromptu performances using single instruments such as harmonicas, ukuleles, and drums.

To honor the celebration’s French beginnings, the day of festivities will conclude with a free performance by Worakls, the rising French DJ and electronic musician, at the North Beach Bandshell hosted by the French Embassy Cultural Services with the support of the France Florida Foundation for the Arts and the City of Miami Beach, Cultural Affairs Program, Cultural Arts Council. Opening sets by local artists Haitian musician Inez Barlatier and DJ APACHE and will start the evening.

All Make Music Day events are free and open to the public. Participants who wish to perform, or to host musical events, may register at MakeMusicMiami.org. A full schedule of events will be posted on the website in early June.

This celebration is supported by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, Miami DDA and Lincoln Road BID and French Embassy Cultural Services.

Davie, Florida 33314

Cost: 35-40-45

Saturday June 16 at 8 PM: South Florida JAZZ at Bailey Hall concludes its season with a performance by Nicole Henry. Tickets are $35, $40, or $45 at baileyhall.org or by phone at (954) 201-6884. Students under 25 with ID pay $10. The concert will be preceded at 7:45 by “Ron’s 15,” outlining next season’s offerings.

“Elegant. Powerful. Stylish. Energetic. Mesmerizing. Expressive. Shimmering. Personable. Nicole Henry really is breathtaking, visually, and to the ears.”- Jodi Duckett, The Morning Call

Nicole Henry was born in Bucks County, Pennsylvania to a musical family and was immersed in the arts, singing in church and school, while studying cello and ballet. Performance, however, was clearly her destiny. She matriculated at University of Miami and briefly pursued an acting career limited to commercials and voiceovers before acknowledging that she excelled at vocal jazz performance. Since her dazzling 2004 record debut, The Nearness of You, Nicole has established herself as one of the jazz world’s most acclaimed vocalists. However, it was the 2011 release of the acclaimed Embraceable CD that expanded her repertoire beyond standards, as she introduced original compositions and even a touch of gospel. She benefited from an all-star jazz band that included Kirk Whalum, Gerald Clayton, Julian Lage, Gil Goldstein, Larry Grenadier and Eric Harland.

Nicole possesses a potent combination of beauty, onstage charisma, impeccable phrasing, and powerful emotional resonance. Her repertoire includes the American Songbook, classic and contemporary jazz titles, blues, and originals. On this long-awaited date, Nicole will lead her outstanding quintet. There are no digital tricks, remastered effects, or revisionist edits. This is the unrestored film – that recreates the cinematic event that audiences experienced fifty years ago.”

June 8 at 8 PM: Dr Ed Calle brings his “Mamblue” project to Arts Garage. Saxophonist, composer, orchestrator, producer, scholar, professor, and leader Ed Calle is known for his extraordinary ability to sight-read, interpret, and perform virtually any musical style. Throughout the globe, his peers and colleagues often laud his versatility. Despite his prodigious experience, he remains relentlessly demanding about his work. On the tenor sax, Calle has an expressive, full-bodied sound, almost vocal in the middle and upper registers, cello-like at the bottom. As a soloist, he can be deceptively brilliant. He has an impressive, fluid technique and uses it to explore the material at hand with logic and purpose.

The Venezuelan-born, South Florida-based Calle is a Latin Grammy award winner and a five-time Latin Grammy nominee. He is a first-call saxophone player and a musician who has played on more than 1,200 albums and 8,500 singles. He holds a doctorate in higher education leadership from Nova Southeastern University.
