Gary Nader Art Centre is proud to present an exhibition by Brazilian contemporary master Claudio Tozzi. The exhibition “Territorios” will feature Tozzi’s most recent work and will be on view from March 2 through April 2 at the Gary Nader Art Centre in Wynwood, located at 62nd NE 27th Street.

Born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Claudio Tozzi initiated his career as an artist in the early ‘60s, with the appropriation of objects, images taken from newspapers, comics and photos associated with social issues through symbolic connotations. In the ‘70s, he created a new syntax through the construction of a thread of reticules and chromatic granulations that led to structures and spaces full of intense symbolic meanings. From the ‘80s until his more recent works, he intensified his formal concerns and started to work with basic structural elements such as lines, planes, colors and organic forms and materials that create formal analogies with pre-existing images and enlarge their constructive characteristics. Gary Nader Art Centre is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The theme for the fourth edition will explore the global impact of Africa’s cultural DNA and will showcase over 40 artists from eight countries including: France, Haiti, Jamaica, Nigeria, St. Martin, and Trinidad and Tobago, split between two sections curated by fair Director and Founder Mikhaile Solomon and interdisciplinary artist William Cordova.

Thursday December 1st – Prizm Perform
6:00 PM – 6:30 PM – Nyugen Smith, A Letter Home: Hoping to reach you soon, Part 2
This thirty-minute performance aims to bring together three generations of Haitians to tell a story of belonging, longing, achievement and their contributions to global culture. This story will be told through instrumentation and performative actions made by the artist and a small ensemble of Haitian residents of Miami. The ensemble will be made up of family and friends of the artist who live in Miami and are musicians in their church (Salvation Army) band. Smith dressed as a military general will lead the ensemble through a series of formations and dialog that bounces between English, French and Haitian Creole, punctuated by musical scores. As a Haitian descendant, Smith knows very little about the history, culture and legacy of the Haitian people and is using this project to learn about the aforementioned while bringing the ensemble together to share their knowledge and experience making together.

6:45 – 7:15 PM Ayana Evans, Gurl I’d Drink Your Bath Water
Evans delivers a layered performance that is part social commentary, part autobiographical. An interactive performance piece, “Gurl, I’ll Drink Your Bathwater,” a piece originally created in 2015 for Performance Anxiety in New York, NY. Within this project the act of washing represents various ideas. There are references to the religious use of water to cleanse the soul, the need for women to be “clean” in our society, beauty ideals in the US, and even a nostalgia for the Palmolive soap used in the piece because it is the same dish washing liquid used by the artist’s mother and grandmother. The title is based on the Black American old school saying, “You’re so fine, I’d drink your bathwater.” This phrase has been used as both an extreme compliment and as an all too familiar catcall for Black women. For the the iteration performed at Prizm, has a new ending has been added.

Friday December 2nd – Prizm Panels
12 PM – 12:45 PM Evolution of Black Artist Movements: Jamea Richmond-Edwards and AMber Robles-Gordon
Artists Jamea Richmond-Edwards and Amber Robles-Gordon, Co-Founders of Delusions of Grandeur artist collective will speak of the relevancy, evolution and power of artist collectives and artistic movements. Richmond-Edwards and Robles-Gordon, parlayed a series of conversations about personal experiences in the art world, the cultural influence and legacy of Howard University, and the examination of artist group and movements such as Spiral, Black Artists of DC, Africobfra and the Black Arts Movement to build a contemporary art cannon. Delusions of Grandeur is a collective of emerging artists brought together by a shared interest and commitment to their art, a need to provide critique and commentary on social infrastructures within American society and to contribute to the prominence of the collective black voice and presence within contemporary art. Delusions of Grandeur is comprised of artists Shaunte Gates, Jamea Richmond-Edwards, Amber Robles-Gordon, Stan Squirewell, Wesley Clarke and Larry Cook Jr.

1:00 – 1:45 PM Young Art Collectors presented by Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation
TBA

2:00 – 2:45 PM – Caribbean Canon: A Caribbean Art Education Initiative with Daniela Fifi, Stephanie Cunningham & Erin Hylton
The history of art in the Caribbean exists in its fragmented past, resulting in the rich and culturally diverse artistic practices present throughout the region. Despite the immense impact that Caribbean art forms have had on the economies and unique cultures of these islands, many of their artistic practices have been inadequately researched and documented. Furthermore, Caribbean art forms are oftentimes left out of the national discourse within education. This presentation aims to address the lacuna present within Caribbean art education through presenting an online platform that will provide information and resources to regional and global audiences.

3:00 – 3:45 PM – Oasa Duverney Presented by Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation
Duverney discusses her exhibition, The View From Nowhere, a showcase of social justice-driven large-scale drawings and mixed media works created to give a “visual voice” for those who continue to be silenced. Her work comes from her own lived experiences and observations, with themes ranging from criminalization of black and brown, bodies, gentrification, housing scarcity, and other pressing social justice issues facing women and people of color in New York City and the United States at-large.

4:00 – 4:45 Pm Black Femininity In Contemporary Art With Karen Senefuru
Karen Senefuru discusses The Black Woman is God exhibition, a multi-media visual and spiritual exhibition for audiences to recognize an alternative to Western cultural narratives that challenges Eurocentric notions of God. Through an examination of cosmology, womanhood, feminism, politics and psychology, The Black Woman is God challenges gaps and fragments in art history that position Black art as only ancient or contemporary, failing to honor the space in between.

Copyright and Street Art

Street art is a hot commodity in Miami, featured in our neighborhoods and in art auctions, fairs and events. It is also featured in advertisements, promotions and in other ways not always endorsed by the artists. Can street art be copyrighted? Artist’s rights have been in the news due to two well known law cases pitting street artists against corporate entities. The slippery nature of copyright law has
left many wondering where to draw the line. There are no easy answers. Join us for a moot court style forum to explore this important topic.

Featured speakers: Steve Eisenberg, Esq. & Jose Talavera, Esp. of Lipscomb Eisenberg & Baker PL; Jaime Gekas, Esq., Foley & Lardner LLP.

Along with curated art tours with street art specialist Sebastien Laboureau.

Networking cocktail reception follows event, a chance to mix and mingle with artists, attorneys, business professionals and others in creative industries.

ABOUT SUPERFINE!
Superfine! represents the continued evolution of the art world. We believe that inspired original artwork by living artists is for everyone, not just a select few. Our art fairs and programming are designed to engage, excite, and delight. The spaces that we build are a complement to the creativity they showcase, and channel the same dynamic energy of the artists and artrepreneurs that make up our lifeblood. Our values are rooted in providing a fair and challenging counter to the typical white box space–one wherein exhibitors thrive and collectors gain access to the freshest original artwork on the planet. We encourage and welcome new collectors, and provide a refreshing alternative for established ones. We like to think that Superfine! puts the “fair” back in art fair by displaying only the strongest artwork by the most passionate living artists while also offering exhibition space as affordably as possible. In this way, we are able to cultivate a deliciously vibrant space where both collectors and exhibitors end up on the right side of the deal.

Toda percepción es una interpretación: You are part of it is a retrospective look from the viewpoint of contemporary issues of art, culture, politics and economics. It seeks to reflect on the successive reconfigurations of the art map in the last few decades, on the displacements and relocations of its primary centers, from Paris to New York, from Venice to São Paulo, from Basel to Miami. It speaks of areas that have succeeded in alternating centripetal or centrifugal forces, where art has relocated its meeting points and its observation points. We also pay attention to the effects of redrawing the financial or political map, with the repercussion it has on how one makes and proceeds in art.

PINTA Miami is gearing up for its 10th anniversary celebration, which will take place from November 30 to December 4, 2016 at MANA Wynwood, located in the heart of the Miami Arts District. This edition will be the pinnacle of ten years that have left a mark on the world of modern and contemporary art from Latin America. In order to further our mission, PINTA Miami’s curatorial committee has expanded its project to include galleries from around the globe while maintaining a conceptual dialogue across all cultures, connecting Latin America to the rest of the world.

Launched in New York in 2006, the fair is considered the most important event of its kind. The founding of PINTA Miami was a milestone event in awareness of twentieth-century Hispanic-American art. It has increased the visibility in the United States of crucial figures like Julio Le Parc, José Gurvich, Jorge Eielson, Lydia Okumura, Antonio Manuel, Waltercio Caldas, Ivan Contreras Brunet, Carlos Cruz-Diez, and Spanish artist Elena Asins—all of whom have been featured in its exhibitions and galleries. Emerging contemporary artists like Elias Crespin, Ivan Navarro, Alexandre Arrechea, Dario Escobar, Matias Duville, Alejandro Londono, Gonzalo Fuenmayor, José Luis Landet, Ricardo Alcaide, Emilio Chapela, and many others have also participated in the fair. Through innovative management strategies, PINTA has been instrumental to major museums’ acquiring works by Latin American artists. A few examples of such acquisitions include a piece by Abraham Palatnik purchased by MoMA for its permanent collection; a work by Elias Crespín purchased by The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and a work by Fernando Bryce purchased by the Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (MALBA).

“Thanks to its impressive programming, PINTA Miami 2015 was extremely well attended. Our curated sections featured not only works by a range of legendary artists, but also recreations of historical performances. The fantastic selection of participating galleries from Latin America, Spain, and Portugal built new relationships with international collectors and directors of art institutions, enabling a great many sales,” states Diego Costa Peuser, the founder and director of PINTA Miami. “There was great interest in figures like Romulo Aguerre, Reynaldo Luza, Roberto Obregon, and Elena Asins, and in artists born after the sixties like the Carla Arocha – Stéphane Schraenen duo.”

PINTA Miami 2016 will be more international and interdisciplinary. Thanks to their successful sections at last year’s edition, curators José Antonio Navarrete, Roc Laseca, and Jesus Fuenmayor will return this year to curate sections on photography, drawing, and solo projects respectively. This edition aims to continue to provide a platform for its participants and to further the fair’s mission of showcasing pioneering artists and discovering young talents.

In addition, PINTA Miami launches the Young Collectors Desk, an initiative of Guijarro de Pablo Art Consulting. The objective is to provide to the assistants -already avid collectors and enthusiasts of art – with the necessary tools to maximize the experience at the fair. The Young Collectors Desk aims to educate and give attendees the opportunity to explore the world of the arts with guided tours that focus on the construction and maintenance of a coherent and sustainable collection. The initiative is directed by Jimena Guijarro, who combines her knowledge of strategic communications with her experience and passion for the visual arts. One of her specialties is to introduce and facilitate the collecting processes to newcomers to the art world.

PINTA Miami is directed by Diego Costa Peuser, CEO and Editor in Chief of Arte al Dia Internacional magazine. He is also the founder and director of PARC – Peru Arte Contemporaneo, BAphoto (Buenos Aires Photo), and the Buenos Aires and Punta del Este editions of Gallery Nights. In this 2016 edition, PINTA Miami will also enjoy the support of the SaludArte Foundation, directed by collector Tanya Brillembourg, and EFG Bank, a Swiss bank that has had offices in Miami for over twenty years. LATAM also returns to PINTA as the sponsor of VIP lounge. On this anniversary edition, PINTA reinforces its commitment to support and promote latin american art while connecting it to the rest of the world by “crossing cultures”, thereby taking the fair to new frontiers.

The title of the exhibition, Intersections (after Lautréamont) refers to the notion of beauty and how, during each era, art is responsible for reformulating, subverting, and/or proposing alternative ways of understanding beauty. There is no single criterion in the exhibition, opening spaces for tense intersections, armed with both correspondence and friction. Placing the questions raised by the works of this year’s winners through the prism of this new juncture in the city that hosts them, could produce moments of estrangement, disturbing crossroads, poetic collisions. That is already an initial point of convergence, among other possible intersections offered by this exhibition: on one hand, the changes produced in the Miami scene in relation to Latin America; on the other hand, the wide range of concerns that occupy the award-winning artists.

Fridge Art Fair –
Fridge Art Fair was born in 2013 on New York’s Lower East Side. The inaugural Fair was filled to capacity with exhibitors who answered Founder Eric Ginsburg’s challenge, “Can you fit into the Fridge?” at Kazuko Miyamoto’s small but storied storefront, Gallery OneTwentyEight. The Fair has gathered a growing following of exhibitors, sponsors and visitors through two more New York editions, as well as two previous Miami fairs in 2013 and 2014. So far, each Fridge Art Fair has coincided with Frieze New York in May and Art Basel Miami in December.

Fridge Art Fair is the boutique, soft sell, dog-friendly satellite fair dubbed as, “The baby who has refused to obey orders to stand outside the door while the adults confabulate inside,” by Artinfo.

Fridge Art Fair Founder and Artist Eric Ginsburg, known for the uniquely soulful and painterly qualities of his portraits, Eric credits Sol LeWill as a patron and friend who commissioned works, as well as a mentor, and, along with Eric’s “pen pal” William Wegman, as “kind of a hero.”

Ginsburg studied with Maureen Gallace at NYU and received his MFA from Columbia University in 2005. His works are found in public & private collections around the wold including: Herb & Dorothy Vogel (now in the permanent collection of the National Gallery of Art);Galerie Nieu Schoten (Ten Boom Museum, The Netherlands); the New Britain Museum of American Art; The Cartin Collection; Cindy Sherman; William Wegman; Lisa Spellman; and the Francis J. Greenburger Collection, Paula Cooper and the LeWitt Collection.

Aqua Art Miami is pleased to announce its roster of confirmed exhibitors for Art Week, when the popular contemporary art fair runs Dec. 3 through Dec. 7, 2014. Long known as one of the top emerging art fairs during Miami Art Week, Aqua Art Miami is critically recognized for presenting vibrant and noteworthy international art programs showcasing emerging and mid-career artists.

Set within a classic Art Deco hotel on South Beach with spacious exhibition rooms that open onto a breezy, charming courtyard, the unique fair has become a favorite gathering spot during the busy week to acquire work, exchange ideas and discover new pieces by well-known artists as well as names new to the international art market. Under its new ownership by Art Miami LLC, Aqua 2013’s VIP Preview opened with a line of collectors down Collins Avenue waiting to gain entrance – a first in the history of the fair – and closed on a high note with record breaking sales, outstanding press coverage, and overall attendance of more than 10,000 visitors, which doubled from previous years.

Aqua Art Miami’s 2014 edition will feature 46 international exhibitors and a dynamic range of high-quality art that maintains the fair’s signature unique atmosphere and energy, showcasing emerging and mid-career artists working in all media from painting, photography and works on paper to design, sculpture, installation, video and multimedia art. “Aqua’s affiliation with Art Miami has clearly expanded the fair’s ability to reach out to new galleries as well as collecting audiences,” said Director Jennifer Jacobs. “Aqua’s unique setting and increasingly refined environment transcends notions of the typical hotel fair, and we’re incredibly excited for this edition, celebrating Aqua’s 10th Anniversary and highlighting the fair’s continuing curatorial evolution. We’re welcoming back some of the established exhibitors that have defined the fair’s success over the years along with fresh galleries new to the Miami art scene, together presenting an exciting roster of solo exhibitions and projects spanning visual art, multimedia, and performance.”

For the first time in Aqua’s history, exhibitors were selected through an Advisory Committee, comprised of Mat Gleason of Coagula Curatorial, Los Angeles, Nancy Toomey of Toomey Tourrell Fine Art, San Francisco, and Henry Chung and Robert Walden of Robert Henry Contemporary, Brooklyn, NY. Approximately half of the galleries who have contributed to Aqua’s success over the years are returning for the 2014 edition, with a number of new participants traveling to the fair from the Americas, Asia and Europe, many exhibiting in Miami for the first time. Aqua will also debut a design exhibitor for the first time in its history, with Industry Gallery of Los Angeles/Washington DC transforming the hotel’s penthouse; and as in years past, the online network and magazine ArtSlant will unveil the winners of a yearlong contest to select several artists from an international open call juried by a panel of art world luminaries.

In honor of the fair’s 10th anniversary, Aqua will present innovative performance programs encouraging audience participation in the creative process. Highlights include: Coagula Curatorial presenting renowned performance artist Karen Finley, who will reprise her Artist Anonymous series of ‘meetings’ encouraging audiences to explore their relationship with art. This series originally premiered as part of the Museum of Art and Design’s 2014 MAD Biennial; Elizabeth Leach Gallery will present MK Guth’s Advice Station, part psychiatry office and part information booth. Here visitors can sit and talk about their experiences and offer their tips, pointers and opinions about the art fairs in Miami, to be included in a book that can be ordered and shipped after the fair. These projects will be enhanced by a number of pop-up installations and ‘performance interruptions’ curated throughout the week, enhancing the fair experience for Aqua visitors.

These facets will add to the unique and invigorating atmosphere that has made Aqua Art Miami’s opening the annual destination on Wednesday of Art Week for influential collectors, connoisseurs and art professionals who migrate en masse from Art Basel Miami Beach’s VIP Preview a short walk away. This exclusive first view starting at 3 PM encourages VIP Cardholders to explore the room displays until the festivities wind down at 10 PM, gaining insight from exhibitors and artists while seizing the opportunity to acquire work before the fair opens to the public at noon the following day.

Yo Miami & Kondoit
A hub for local artists, Yo Miami has grown since 2011 into an ecosystem where creatives can get access to resources & contacts to help them reach the next level of success in their careers. By working with businesses, nonprofi t & community organizations we are able to foster a network which enables us to create opportunities throughout the year for artists to demonstrate their talents in ways that add value to our neighborhoods. With several monthly events at various venues around Wynwood, we continually o ffer a platform where emerging artists can reach a wider audience. At the same time, we show business owners the benefits associated with incorporating arts programming into their operations, & help foster the growth of our local communities through this synergy. For Dwntwn Arts Fair we will be hand picking a lineup from Miami’s top artists. These artists will be live painting and displaying their work throughout the weekend. We encourage you to stop by our booth to meet these up and coming talented creatives to discover what inspires and motivates them, and watch them work live and in person.

Buskerfest
We strive for a connected, thriving urban core where the streets of Miami are active and enlivened with local performers, enjoyed by people of all ages and walks of life. We envision a joyous place that is reflective of the tropical urban landscape and attractive to locals and visitors alike.

FoodSpark Miami is made possible in part by the 8-80 Cities Emerging City Champions 2015 Fellowship, which is funded by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.

Indiegals
Every indie needs a hand, and we¹ve partnered with artists from all over to bring a uniquely curated expo of artisanal goods, earthy designs, and conscious driven showcases. We¹ve connected with the indigenous tribe from Valle de Sibundoy in the Alto Putumayo region of Colombia, to bring the tribe’s delicately handcrafted jewelry, organic essential oils, and raw incense, led by the tribe¹s artist Yolimar Loreto & the tribe-women. Also from Colombia, we present for the first time in the U.S Hagakure Home a small company based in Medellin whose home décor is derived from organic materials, raw fabrics, and designed with earthy elements. We¹re bringing goods for the home and lifestyle. Then a young, hip, and hippie indie group of artists called Gypsy Halos will be dancing around our tent expressing their love and spirit through flower crowns, leafy jewelry designs, and airy fashions. This movement is not just focused on the younger generation. We¹ve connected with our baby boomer warrior woman who¹s love for mother Earth has helped her develop an artistic eye for floral designs; Esperanza (Hope) will bring to our expo her creative orchid, succulents, air flower gardens. Last but not least, our tent will feature an art showcase called Monsterz, an Anti-bullying picturesque story created by Miami’s local Tuli. We will feature other random goodies, our farmer friends may stop by with organic goods, or maybe we¹ll have a pop-up artist color us alive! This is what Indie Gals does, we dig deep into the roots and help elevate indie creatives so that we can all break through the noise. Everyone deserves to feel the sunshine of success on their face.

PRESS RELEASE
Major Collectors from New York, Miami and Abroad Make Important Acquisitions

Art Wynwood, the annual Presidents Day Weekend art fair, presented over 60 galleries, from 9 countries representing over 25 cities, featured a wide breadth of quality works from both established and mid-career cutting edge artists. The Fourth Edition reported record attendance, attracting over 35,000 enthusiasts and some of the world’s most prominent collectors; as well as a strong show of patrons from the international clientele in town for the Yacht & Brokerage Show. Art Wynwood has secured its position as the most important contemporary art fair in the southeast during the winter months by offering the most discerning international collectors, art enthusiasts and seasoned cultural travelers the best opportunity to discover, explore and collect some of the most significant art works of our time.

“The City of Miami and The Wynwood Arts District continues to deliver for our participating dealers while quenching the thirst of an active international art collecting community who are visiting or residing in South Florida each winter,” said Nick Korniloff, Executive VP of Art Miami LLC. “This past weekend proved that Miami continues to develop as a serious cultural destination outside the month of December”

“For the fourth edition of Art Wynwood, the enthusiasm, focus and momentum of our local, regional and international galleries has made the fair an exceptional success,” said Grela Orihuela, Art Wynwood Fair Director. “Our clear determination was to continue to grow and shape this fair into an event embodying the tremendous art character and talent of its Miami roots.”

Christie’s International Real Estate hosted an interactive booth at the entrance of Art Wynwood, exhibiting international luxury residential real estate offerings, and a new addition to the fair was a special exhibition titled SOLO Miami where a selection of local galleries, including Emerson Dorsch, GUCCIVUITTON, Primary, Fredric Snitzer Gallery and Spinello Projects, exhibited side-by-side to present solo exhibitions premiering exciting new work by consequential local artists.

“Major collectors like Mera Rubell, Beth Rudin DeWoody, Jorge Perez and Jessica Goldman came through the fair. We are thrilled that Susan and Michael Hort have continued to support Farley Aguilar with their acquisition of Mourning, one of the three large oil on canvas painting that were featured in Spinello’s booth. Beth DeWoody also acquired a large oil painting, Patriarchy, as well as several ink on mylar paintings. In total, we placed 20 paintings – sold out!” said gallery owner Anthony Spinello. “Judging from the packed aisles, there is definitely an audience and most importantly people are buying.”

Famed gallery owner Fredric Snitzer, who also participated in the SOLO Miami exhibition said, “The reason I was happy to be a part of the fair this year was in the choice they made of selecting a few galleries from the community and having each focus on showing a Miami artist. It gives a snapshot and cross section of what’s happening here in a brief moment.” Other new exhibitions this year included, “La Habana in Waiting,” a solo exhibition by New York-based Chinese artist, Quentin Shih, in collaboration with participating gallery ART LEXÏNG. In his most recent series, “La Habana in Waiting,” Shih explores the tensions and melancholy in Cuban citizens sitting for an artist’s lens; the polarities between expressive individuals struggling for identity within a Communist regime. The fair continued its collaboration with Cash, Cans & Candy, an international festival of street art from Vienna, Austria, presented by Galerie Ernst Hilger. Curator Katrin- Sophie Dworczak of Cash, Cans & Candy lined up famed street artist, Boicut, to create original works onsite at the fair. Esteemed gallery owner, Bernice Steinbaum, presented a design installation by young artists, 10 percent of the proceeds of her sales from special project “Art in the Natural World and Cultured Settings” will go to the Museum of Art and Design in the Freedom Tower. Artists sold at her project included Enrique Gomez de Molina, Aurora Molina and Carrie Sieh among others. Jessica Goldman Srebnick, CEO of Goldman Properties, aligned once again with the fair and sponsored the Wynwood Walls Go! Shop pop up on-site at the Art Wynwood Pavilion. The Go! Shop invited the public to shop the Walls, through a curated collection of limited art editions, inspired and created by the artists of Wynwood Walls.

Lastly, Art Wynwood partnered with Miami Children’s Museum to provide a fun and interactive kid’s center – ArtRageous Kids Center.

Art Africa Miami Arts Fair Set To Weave Art and Culture Into The Fabric Of The #HistoricOvertown Cultural Movement

#HistoricOvertownSoulBasel Is The Cultural Epicenter of Cultural Influence For Arts, Culture and Music

Miami, Fl-November 18, 2014-The Urban Collective continues to invigorate the cultural landscape of the Historic Overtown community with the anticipation of this year’s 2014 Art Africa Miami Arts Fair(AAMAF), taking place December 3-7, 2014 at 801 NW 3rd Ave, Miami, Fl 33136. The AAMAF remains relevant in its 4th year, and continues to push boundaries, leading the way for innovation, creativity and inclusion of some of the top art artist influencers of the African and Caribbean Diaspora. The Art Africa Arts Fair  is funded by the Southeast Overtown/ Park West Community Redevelopment Agency This year’s fair falls under the marketing campaign and moniker of #HistoricOvertownSoulBasel and was orchestrated by The Urban Collective’s CEO, Neil Hall, as a collaborative partnership between the City of Miami Commissioner Keon Hardemon, Southeast Overtown Parkwest Community Redevelopment Agency and the Black Archives of art cultural offerings throughout Overtown during Art Basel in December. #HistoricOvertownSoulBasel celebrates Overtown’s music, art and cultural vibe. The Urban Collective is a social conscious design, art and culture lifestyle brand created to inform, inspire and engage underserved communities in the power of the arts to transform their environment.

In 2011, visionary, architect and creator of AAMAF, Neil Hall launched the inaugural AAMAF that showcased engaging and thought provoking art that served a continuum of the Black, Caribbean, social, political, hip hop artistic strand that spoke to the Black presence missing from the Art Basel script. The AAMAF narrative has ignited a spark in the urban art community resulting in the creation of art fairs like Prizm, Kroma, Fusion Mia, Global Caribbean and Multitudes added to this cultural revolution. The wave of celebrations continues with the appointment of Babacar M’Bow as the Director of MOCA North Miami and also the Greater Miami Convention and Visitor’s Bureau’s Cultural Department’s marketing campaign Art of Black Miami. This years location for AAMAF was make possible by a partnership with the Mt. Zion Developments, Incorporated.

“This year’s effort continues to sustain the dynamic discourse of the AAMAF narrative and artistic strands of Black and Caribbean culture revolution”, boldly stated by cultural influencer, Neil Hall.

“Art, music, dance, and culture once reflected the vibrancy of the Overtown community. The Art Africa Arts Fair assists Historic Overtown in highlighting such a rich history while ensuring it participates in the blossoming of a new era of excellence,” stated by District 5, City of Miami Commissioner Keon Hardemon.
“All across the country, art has been a catalyst for the rebirth of communities that have been disinvested,” said Clarence Woods, SEOPW CRA Executive Director “ We see Art Africa as one of the sparks that will help to light the flames of economic prosperity here in Overtown.

AAMAF opens Wednesday, December 3, 2014 with a reception from 7pm-10pm,immediately following the opening night of #HistoricOvertownSoulBasel: A Celebration of Art, Music that will showcase the works of the late Overtown artist Purvis Young at the Lyric Theatre. Founded in 2002, New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA) is a not-for-profit collective of professionals working with contemporary art. Our mission is to create an open flow of information, support, and collaboration within our field and to develop a stronger sense of community among our constituency. NADA’s fair is held in parallel with Art Basel Miami Beach and is recognized as a much needed alternative assembly of the world’s youngest and strongest art galleries dealing with emerging Contemporary Art. It is the only major American art fair to be run by a non-profit organization.

Our international group of members includes both galleries and individuals (art professionals, independent curators, and established gallery directors). The various perspectives and ideas offered by our diverse roster creates a network which, at its most basic, is a resource which people could contribute to and take as much (or as little) as they are inclined. The benefits for some may be a matter of business, for others a source of intellectual or aesthetic stimulation.

To date, our initiatives have succeeded on two fronts: making the contemporary arts more accessible for the general public, and creating opportunities that nurture the growth of emerging artists, curators, and galleries. Our EVENTS have included: artist talks/gallery walks with critics and curators; benefits in support of charitable institutions; members-only seminars to stimulate dedication and ethics in our profession; and an annual art fair in Miami, which is held in December and is free and open to the public.

Art Basel announces strong selection of galleries and artists for its 2014 edition in Miami Beach Private View

Art Basel’s show in Miami Beach returns this December for its 13th edition with 267 leading international galleries, drawn from 31 countries across North and South America, Europe, Asia and Africa. 2014 will mark the debut of Survey, a new sector dedicated to precise art-historical projects. In addition to showing premier artworks ranging from Modern masters to the latest contemporary pieces across five gallery sectors, many galleries will present works in Art Basel’s project-based sectors: Kabinett, Public and Film. The Art Basel show in Miami Beach, whose Lead Partner is UBS, will take place at the Miami Beach Convention Center from December 4 to December 7, 2014.

Attracting leading collectors, curators, museum directors and critics from across the globe, Art Basel in Miami Beach ranks as the premier art show of the Americas, with 50 percent of the galleries having exhibition spaces in the region. Alongside a strong presence of returning galleries from North America, first-time exhibitors from the United States will include Clifton Benevento, Freedman Fitzpatrick, Honor Fraser, Garth Greenan Gallery, Michael Jon, Menconi + Schoelkopf and Simone Subal Gallery. The show will again be marked by a strong presence of galleries with spaces across Latin America, with first-time exhibitors including Central Galeria de Arte and Galeria Bergamin from Brazil, and SlyZmud from Argentina. Reflecting Art Basel’s truly global reach, the show will feature leading galleries with spaces across Asia, including new participants Take Ninagawa and Y++ Wada Fine Arts from Japan and Beijing Commune from China.

Overall, this year’s participants have exhibition spaces in 31 countries: Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Monaco, the Netherlands, Norway, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States and Uruguay. For the full exhibitor list, please visit artbasel.com/miamibeach/exhibitors.

Comprising 192 of the world’s leading galleries, the Galleries sector is the centerpiece of the show. With a reapplication rate of 100 percent, the selection process was particularly competitive this year. Returning galleries will be joined, following a hiatus, by The Approach, Galeria Raquel Arnaud, Maccarone, Giò Marconi Gallery and ShanghART, while two galleries who previously presented their artists in Nova will exhibit in the sector for the first time: Casas Riegner and galerie frank elbaz. For the full gallery list, please visit artbasel.com/miamibeach/galleries.

The sector will present nine solo exhibitions: Ralston Crawford (Menconi + Schoelkopf), Paul Feeley (Garth Greenan Gallery), Poul Gernes (Galleri Bo Bjerggaard), Tetsuya Ishida (Y++ Wada Fine Arts), Alison Knowles (James Fuentes), Lotty Rosenfeld (espaivisor), Niki de Saint Phalle (Galerie Georges-Philippe & Nathalie Vallois), Michelle Stuart (Leslie Tonkonow Artworks + Projects) and Alfredo Volpi (Galeria Bergamin). (Cecilia de Torres, Ltd.); Henry Darger and Marcel Storr (Andrew Edlin Gallery); Andrei Monastyrski, Valie Export and Alfons Schilling (Charim Galerie); and Gina Pane, Rosemarie Castoro, Lenora de Barros and Lydia Okumura (Broadway 1602). Further information on the individual projects will be announced in the coming weeks. For the full gallery list, please visit artbasel.com/miamibeach/survey.

Providing younger galleries with a platform to present new work by up to three artists, Nova will feature 34 exhibitors. The sector will include work by David Diao (Galería Marta Cervera); Tania Candiani (Instituto de visión); Laure Prouvost (MOT International); Uri Aran, Ara Dymond and Mairead O’hEocha (mother’s tankstation); Shinro Ohtake, Tsuruko Yamazaki, Ryoko Aoki (Take Ninagawa); Oscar Muñoz, Voluspa Jarpa, Teresa Margolles (mor charpentier); Jon Pestoni, Sam Pulitzer (Real Fine Arts); and a performance installation by Brazilian artists Cibelle Cavalli Bastos and Patricia Leite (Mendes Wood DM). Following the success of its Miami Beach premiere in 2013, Edition will return with 12 global leaders in the field of prints and limited-editioned works: Alan Cristea Gallery, Crown Point Press, GDM, Gemini G.E.L. LLC, Sabine Knust, Carolina Nitsch, Pace Prints, Paragon, Polígrafa Obra Gráfica, Paul Stolper Gallery, STPI, and Two Palms. For the full gallery list, please visit artbasel.com/miamibeach/edition.

Another highlight of the Miami Beach show is Film, a premier program of films by and about artists, selected by David Gryn, Director of London’s Artprojx, and Zurich collector This Brunner. Curated around the theme of ‘Playfulness’, David Gryn will present over 70 films and videos by an international roster of artists including ‘Ex Romance’ by Charles Atlas (Luhring Augustine), hand drawn animations by Atsushi Kaga (mother’s tankstation), and work by Laure Prouvost (MOT International). Gryn’s program will again be shown in SoundScape Park on the 7,000-square-foot outdoor projection wall of the Frank Gehry-designed New World Center. To further integrate Film within the art fair and to allow for ideal viewing conditions, Art Basel will unveil a newly designed film viewing room within the exhibition halls. This Brunner’s feature-film selection will be announced later this fall.

Also returning to Art Basel is Nicholas Baume, Director and Chief Curator of New York City’s Public Art Fund, who will curate Public – the outdoor installation of large sculptural works – for the second time. Further information on Public and Film will be released during the fall, along with this year’s selection for Kabinett – separate curated interventions delineated within the standard gallery booth – and Art Basel’s renowned Conversations and Salon series of panels and talks.

In response to the ever-increasing popularity of the Miami Beach show with arts patrons from all over the world, Art Basel’s opening structure this year will shift slightly with the official Vernissage moving from the evening of December 3 to the morning of December 4, giving exhibitors expanded time to focus on collectors and art world professionals.

Reflecting the show’s long-term impact on the local art scene, South Florida’s leading museums and private collections will again time their strongest exhibitions of the year to coincide with Art Basel. Visitors from across the world will have an opportunity to view the city’s internationally renowned private collections. The Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation (CIFO) will show ‘Impulse, Reason, Sense, Conflict/Abstract Art in the Ella Fontanals- Cisernos Collection’, featuring works exhibited for the first time at the CIFO Art Space.

Life Is Art [mi.ami][inter.play] Booth
Spectrum has provided Life Is Art with a donated booth in which to bring a presentation of Miami artists around the theme of [inter.play] exploring the ways the arts and the community interact and build upon each other. The focus of [mi.ami][inter.play] is collaboration. Collaboration between artists, collaboration between the arts and the community, collaboration between Miami and the Art World at large. This is a juried featuring both experienced and emerging Miami artists. All work is for sale, with only a small commission going to the Life Is Art volunteers.

Spectrum’s theme of [inter.play] works perfectly for Miami, and for Life Is Art. Our mission is to create positive change in the community with arts and culture. Life Is Art operates in exactly that interplay between the community and the arts and how those build on and feed each other. Using the arts to build our city is a very hot topic in Miami right now, and we are excited to be able to showcase some of the best our city has to offer.

James Echols, co-founder of Life Is Art said, “We were very pleased to be included by Spectrum Miami last year and are excited to participate once again.” He went on to say, “I am happy to hear that Spectrum has made it a point to feature more South Florida artists in the show this year. We strongly feel that one of the components that has been missing from the Art Basel week is any sort of credit given to our local arts. I applaud Spectrum for being so proactive in that area.”

Ann Berchtold, Show Director Art San Diego and Spectrum Miami, said, “As the Founder and Director of ART SAN DIEGO, I have always integrated the local arts community into the show through programs like Spotlight Artists, LaunchPad program, and Art Labs – which invite local emerging spaces and institutions into the fair to create site-specific installations around a current theme.” Of her new work in Miami, Berchtold says, “Through my partnership now with Redwood Media Group – we will now be incorporating these programs into the Spectrum Miami show – with hopes to integrate the local Miami art scene into the show. We are pleased to work with James and Life is Art and Yo Miami as an Art Lab for this year.”

Project: Chaos Math = Art (Right&Left Collide)
Artist: David Pino
Mathematical representation in Digital format. This portfolio is designed to disrupt the notion that Right side thinkers and Left side thinkers cannot work on the opposing side. Using mathematical formulas I have been creating fractal art pieces on plexiglass and metal sheet siding. The images are extremely detailed and come to life when lit with proper lighting, revealing a luminescence that is unique to the format. Math and Art collide to create pieces that take weeks to render on a high power computer. creating works that are uniquely organic, despite completely mathematically generated. Disrupting the idea that math leads to non-organic shapes (cylinders and triangles).
Work: “Alchemical Spark”, 30″x40″, Plexiglass Face Mounted
* Dr. David Pino graduated with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 2010 from Nova Southeastern University. Since that time he was gone to practice as a pharmacist, manage a business as a pharmacy manager, and now assists in managing a store location. He enjoys the visual arts and specifically enjoys shooting photos, computer rendered images, and videos. Stock photography is a passion he enjoys and is actively submitting pieces for use in websites and magazine publications. His accolades include winning photography competitions (Intel’s “A Momentary Lapse”, Scott Kelby’s WorldWide Photo Walk local winner, and Camelot Days 2012 – 2nd place) and has created commercials for American Express, San Diego Wildlife Conservatory, and Cosi Restaurants. In recent years he has been captivated by mathematical renders and is hoping to participate in a local art fair in 2014 to show his portfolio and increase awareness of these types of mathematical pieces as abstract art. He currently resides in Miami, FL.

Project: Muse
Artists: Derek Wilson + Keepn it Reel + Registered Artist
Muse… the stimulus that will inspire you to muse
Muse, the brain-child of Sergio, Craig L, and Derek Wilson is a completely interactive installation that attempts to remove the barrier between art and the spectator. The Project inspires the viewer, now participant to act as artist while they interplay with the child-like building blocks, that when assembled correctly, create an original painting(s). The large-scale building blocks of art, not only touch upon a universal nostalgia associated with childhood but provide for a truly one-of-a-kind authentic experience.
Work: “Muse Project”, TBA
* Miami-native Derek Wilson is a local Artist and a veteran art teacher for Dade County Public Schools. Mr. Wilson, who currently teaches at John A. Ferguson Senior High School, devotes his time to developing challenging curriculum for a variety of art courses including IB Art and Advanced Placement Art. A product of Dade County Public Schools himself and a graduate Florida International University, Wilson has consistently exhibited in a variety of galleries and project spaces since earning his degree in Fine Art Sculpture. In addition to his busy exhibition schedule, Wilson is most proud of the work executed for charity events and organizations like, The March of Dimes, Habitat for Humanity, Touching Miami with Love, and Easter Seals; to name a few. “My methodology as it relates to art is always in a state of flux. I am somewhat of an alchemist, spontaneously mixing materials and subtly changing formulas as well as styles to suit the concept I want to address. I am a New Media Artist (always looking for new means of expression). I have an unquenchable thirst for the experiment; the process -this is what drives me.”
* Craig Ledermann was born and raised in Queens, New York. As a teenager he and his family moved to Boca Raton, Florida where he graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. After contemplating further education, he decided to make a life change. Craig had always enjoyed building and creating things with his father while growing up, so in 2009 he took a chance and headed back to New York to work with family friends. There he learned about construction and carpentry while building sets for “White Collar” (Television Show) on USA Network. He returned to Florida in 2010 continuing his Set Fabrication and Design work on many different TV and Movie sets around South Florida. With his free time Craig started to explore Wynwood, Miami and learn about street art. He had seen graffiti as a child in New York City, but here it was different, here artists painted large scale murals on walls as big as 100+ feet. Being drawn into the culture Craig has now become part of the Wynwood movement, fabricating custom art installations, building wooden canvases, even assisting major Miami street artists with their large scale murals.
* Specializing in pop art influenced by the likes of Roy Lichtenstein and Marvel comics, Registered Artist’s street art can be seen throughout many Miami neighborhoods. RA is a voracious guerrilla artist who puts his work on display through stencils, decals, wheat pastes, murals and stickers. “Stroggle”, 36in x 30in. Thermically printed in Glass
* I am an engineer of assets from an opposite spectrum of life, an artist by heart and a photographer by nature. At the beginning of my career, I tried to comprehend light and all its waves by mirroring its influence over canvas using only acrylic paint and my imagination; but in a revelation, it became clear to me that if I wanted to understand light, I needed to follow its behavior in real life. Consequently, I started composing and recording light in Instamatics and without realizing it, I was becoming a photographer.

Project: Going for the Arts
Artist: Harold Rosario
The art classroom is essential to foster art awareness to future generations in our community. “Going for the Arts,” is a digital photomontage consisting of over 1000 digitally stitched images creating a impossible aerial perspectives of this fostering taking place in a MIami-Dade art class.
Work: TBA
* Harold Rosario is a Miami-based contemporary artist. Primarily focusing on the medium of painting, he has also branched out into the digital era, creating works like “Going for the Arts,” a digital photomontage consisting of over 1000 digitally stitched images to create impossible aerial perspectives. Recently, he has added to the definition of “Street Art” by embarking on a creative series titled Interact With Art. Here he uses social media to engage and awaken followers to the art which is all around us. Using clever sketches, props, poses and a bit of humor, the artist interacts with public art, architecture, sculptures, landscaping, culinary art and the endless supply of artforms that shapes our daily lives. What started as a personal challenge to push his creative potential, evolved into a campaign for art awareness.

Project: Floral Fantasies Real and Imagined
Artists: Ileana Collazo + Miguel Collazo
Our painting will honor our state’s name: Florida, as well as the colorful people who populate our lively city.
Work: TBA
* I create small worlds of movement, colors, and shapes to entice that observer to travel through my work surface—colliding with the images, finding their way around to yet another shape, and finding it as alluring to linger gazing at them as I still find it to linger in a garden; my work is also representative of the twists, turns, bumps, and alternatives each of us transverses in the course of our daily life.
* I not only create art, but spend much time studying the processes, past and present that culminate in the finished pieces. Art history captivates my interest as much as making something of my own.

* Monique Lassooij was born and raised in The Netherlands and moved several years ago to Miami, Florida. Her work explores the paradox in modern pop culture & society, sometimes clearly visible and sometimes through an underlining dichotomy interjected with humor. Ms. Lassooij finds her inspiration in colors and how those colors affect the subject whether she is painting on canvas, wood or a wall. Her subjects are often not placed within a context-giving background, allowing a single or combination of colors and geometric shapes to illuminate the chosen topic. Her paintings hang in numerous private collections in the US and abroad.

It is a collection of skulls in stainless steel, painted in bright colors. Artists in all ages have been fascinated by skulls, countless paintings, sculptures have been created, cults celebrate the skull. Skulls have a very dark side, but also represent knowledge.
How does south Florida experience skulls? Do they look happier here? Are they in vacation mode?
Work: “Small Skulls” in various colors, 8″ x 12″ x 9″h, stainless steel welded
* Born in Germany 1959, I have worked in design for over 20 years before i started working full time on my sculptures. I mainly use stainless steel squares to create human bodies in motion. I live and work in Miami, FL

Project: Sleep Walker
Artist: Richard Bello
Life size expression of emergence into the world of reality
Work: “Emerging Man II”, 48″x 48″ fiberglass and wood
I was born in 1952 of Puertorican parents and lived 18 yrs. in Long Island,. I’m a self taught artist. I began drawing and painting in 1970 though I did so since I was five years old, and started sculpting in 1974. For the last 42 years, I have specialized in sculpture in ceramic and fiberglass mostly life size. I have recently moved to Miami in hopes of becoming a part of the growing art scene here.

Project: Pulse’
Artist: Stefanie Caro
Pulse’ is a 3-dimensional page made of three layers of meticulously carved water color paper. The scene features a view of downtown Miami, just above the Miami river with iconic buildings and structures turned into musical instruments. A group of large scaled robots, made from found objects and scrap metal utilize the scenery and interact with them as if they were musical instruments, thus bringing this otherwise concrete jungle to life.
Work: “Pulse’”, 12″ X 6″ X 3″ Watercolor paper, string, ink
* I’ve never been an advocate for the spoken word. It’s difficult to imagine an effective form of communication within the boundaries of strictly audible cognition. I first became an illustrator as a means to understand the space around me, on a level deeper than what my appointed bi-pedaled senses could provide. The world was this complex and painfully interesting thing that I could not filter and dilute to the point of articulation, but I was hungry to try. Through a process of sensory alchemy, I found that I could combine colors, texture, and line to express my small discoveries somehow in a language that was foreign to all but myself until it was laid on a two dimensional surface.

UNTITLED., an international art fair to be held in Miami Beach, announces its vernissage and benefit, its list of exhibitors and programming highlights for its third edition from December 3 to 7, 2014.

At the vernissage on Monday, December 1, UNTITLED. will honor ACRIA, a leading research and education organization working to help people with HIV and AIDS live longer, healthier lives. For more than 20 years, ACRIA has been championed tirelessly by the arts community. Ryan McGinley will host the UNTITLED. vernissage, where a limited-edition print by the artist will be available for sale to benefit ACRIA. On Tuesday, December 2, UNTITLED. will hold a Press Preview from 1 pm to 3 pm, and a VIP Preview from 3 pm to 7 pm. (All these events are by invitation only).

UNTITLED. is proud to welcome exhibitors from across the country and globe. Over 200 artists represented in galleries and non-profit art spaces from 16 US cities and 18 countries are on the 2014 roster. Carefully selected by UNTITLED.’s 2014 curatorial team, led by Artistic Director Omar López-Chahoud with curators Christophe Boutin and Melanie Scarciglia, the list of exhibitors will present the works of emerging and established contemporary artists.
In addition to its roster of international exhibitors, UNTITLED. will feature a series of special projects, conversations, performances and events.
Programming highlights

This year’s UNTITLED. catalog is conceived as an artist book and will be published in a limited edition of 1,000 numbered copies. This simple box containing folders and gallery information will mimic a box of press clips focusing on the international profile of the fair.
A series of artist’s posters will additionally be produced and distributed for free to the visitors, including two works from the Toilet Paper series by Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari. Lawrence Weiner, Lisa Anne Auerbach, Jonathan Monk, Elvire Bonduelle, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Slavs and Tatars among others will also create original posters for the public.

Loosely based on Hyde Park’s Speakers’ Corner, UNTITLED. TALKS, animated by artist Sean Micka, will create a new space in the heart of the fair where art history will collide with performance, controversy, culture, diatribe and debate with a strong dose of energy.
Furthermore, the Paris-based publisher onestar press is inviting artists Douglas Navarra, Nicole Cherubini, Pier Stockholm, and Silvina Arismendi among others for a publication in their prestigious artist’s books collection.

Publicar V (2010), a special project by Paul Ramírez Jonas, will be presented by Koenig & Clinton, New York. The artist states, “There are two voices that inscribe public space. One is ours and it is ephemeral, improvised, and temporal. The other one is the state’s and it tries to be permanent and monumental. Their voice is of stone and bronze. Our voice is cork: capable of accommodating us all—even if for a short time. All we need is a scrap of paper, a pen, and a thumbtack to publish our voice.”

Conceptual French artist Mathieu Mercier will present new works exclusively made for the fair and will be showcased by Denis Gardarin Inc. Using everyday objects to explore ideas of the line between functionality and artistic purposelessness, Mercier’s work investigates key tropes of modern art and design. Denis Gardarin Inc. will also feature a 20-year survey of Mercier, with the artist’s most important works including new sculptures and photographs.
Artists Gordon Matta-Clark, Bill Owens and James Wines / SITE Architects & Howard Silver will present Cutting Through the Suburbs. Featured by non-profit gallery carriage trade, the works engage the almost mythological status of mid-century suburban life. Documented through film, photographs and sketches, the artists’ works represent their shared interest in the unusual retail and domestic spaces of 1970s suburbia.

Additionally, for its third edition UNTITLED.’s VIP guests will be granted exclusive access to “MY UNTITLED.” two weeks before the fair opens to research and discover works that are exhibited at the fair, build their own digital art collection and print their favorite works from the fair in advance of its opening. In a unique partnership with Curiator, MY UNTITLED. will allow users to discover, collect and share art. Visitors to the fair will have this exceptional opportunity throughout the run of the fair.

Since 2005, PULSE Contemporary Art Fair has been the premiere satellite fair for the discovery and acquisition of cutting-edge contemporary art. With annual editions in Miami Beach and New York City, the fair cultivates a supportive environment for its international community of galleries and provides a platform for their growth and expansion in the contemporary art market. From its inception, PULSE has presented thoughtfully-curated exhibitions and ever-evolving programming that reflect the fair’s commitment to making the visitor experience a dynamic one.

PULSE Contemporary Art Fair is delighted to announce its 2014 Miami Beach programming highlights and PULSE Prize nominees for its tenth anniversary edition. With over 170 exhibiting artists presented by a select group of exhibitors from Asia, Europe and the Americas, PULSE Miami Beach will offer visitors a dynamic environment in which to discover and collect cutting-edge contemporary art.

PULSE Projects, the fair’s presentation of large-scale installations and performance, will feature a piece by Ontario-based artist Shayne Dark, presented by Art Mûr. Tangle Wood (below), Dark’s meditative 8x18x10’ painted wood sculpture, is a reference to log driving on North American rivers in the early part of the century. Jenna Spevack will also present Birds of Brooklyn, an audio installation that brings the sounds of displaced and bygone birds to sites in Brooklyn and Miami, courtesy of the artist and Mixed Greens.

PULSE Play, the fair’s platform for new media and video art, will be presented by Tumblr and curated by new media scholar Lindsay Howard. For PULSE Play, Howard will select a group of artists whose work is thematically linked from among exhibiting galleries. “Video and New Media Art have become essential components of contemporary art collections. The artists included in PULSE Play are experimenting with the aesthetics and technical aspects of emergent technologies, through topics such as religion, poetry, human form, light, and performance,” explains Lindsay Howard. The PULSE Play selections will be on view on PULSE’s Tumblr, and at the fair.

PULSE is honored to present the PULSE Prize—a cash grant awarded directly to a jury-selected artist of distinction who is being exhibited in a solo booth at the fair. The New York 2014 winner of the PULSE Prize was Hassan Hajjaj, presented by GUSFORD | los angeles.

What is the most direct link between the art week in Basel and Miami? The answer came curiosly by an Italian painter – Guido Buganza – that this year brings in Miami a collection of paintings inspired by his last trip in the Swiss city during Art Basel. But the artistic challenge is still open, because the exhibition – project aims to bring in Basel 2015 a series of paintings that will be created by the vibrations of the trip to Miami during these December.

The project, at its first edition this year, is a bet on the future that aims to create a potentially infinite exhibition in the cities symbol of art in the world.

The exhibition is at The Hangar Gallery, Wynwood, Miami, from 3 to 31 December 2014.

PRIZM is the producer of a cutting-edge art fair that is multidisciplinary in scope. Our goal is to expand the spectrum of international artists from the African Diaspora and emerging markets at one of the most prestigious art festivals in the world.

Our mission is to promote the work of artists of color, who reflect global trends in contemporary art, through a blockbuster exhibit held during Art Basel/Miami. Workshops and special events will be organized throughout the year to advance the careers of local and regional artists. We are committed to the Miami cultural community and will work to expand its visual arts landscape, nurture and educate its constituents and provide forums for cross cultural exchange.

In 2014, Prizm will exhibit a dynamic group or contemporary artists during Art Basel/Miami at the Miami Center for Architecture and Design. Salient works will be presented that highlight the diversity evident in contemporary visual art practices today, including painting sculpture and mixed media installations.

Additionally, PRIZM will feature the work of emerging Miami-based artists of African descent, such as T. Eliot, and Asser Saint Val. These artists redefine their world and bring into focus socio-political and cultural issues pertinent to the people of African descent in Miami and beyond. The select artists are actively engaged in perpetuating Miami’s growth as a cultural hub.

Opening Reception
Join Prizm To For An Evening Of Cocktails With Our Exhibiting Artists To Mark The Beginning Miami Art Week.

Prizm Panels Presented By The Green Family Foundation & Fiu African & African Diaspora Studies At The Steven J. Green School Of International And Public Affairs
Prizm hosts Prizm panels; a series of conversations & film screenings presented by leading thinkers and practitioners in contemporary African and African diaspora art. Panelists will include Kebona Mercer, Professor of Art and African American Studies at Yale University, contemporary visual artist, Jefferson Pinder, Charlotte Mouquin Voznesenskaya & Oshun Layne of Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation, and others more.

12:00 PM – 12:30PM Serendipity a conceptual film by Awol Erizku
1:00 PM – 2:30pm Prizm Panel Talk with Prof. Kobena Mercer moderated by Prof. Patricia Saunders
Prof. Mercer will discuss his new book, Travel & See, in which he presents a diasporic model of criticism that pays close attention to the aesthetic strategies in contemporary Black diaspora art. He also traces the shifting political and cultural contexts in which black visual art circulates over the last 35 years.
2:45 PM – 3:15PM Film Screening Papa Machete A Third Horizon Film
More than two hundred years ago, the slaves of Haiti defeated Napoleon’s armies in the historic revolutions that took place between 1791-1804. One of their weapons was the very tool they used to work the land, the machete. Papa Machete explores the esoteric martial art that evolved during the slave revolts through the practice and life of a farmer named Alfred Avril. The short film documents his proud devotion to his heritage in the face of bitter poverty, and his efforts to keep this mysterious art alive.
3:30 Pm – 4:15 Pm Prizm Panel Talk With Contemporary Visual Artist Jefferson Pinder
4:30 Pm – 5:30 Pm Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation talks about their work in Brooklyn and how they’re using the arts to educate.

Prizm Block Party
With Sonic Sounds From King Britt. Prizm Will Also Host A Basel Domino Tournament.
12 pm – 7 pm
A break from Miami Art Week, Prizm hosts a mid-day social. Join us with our co-hosts rush philanthropic arts foundation for cocktails, music, light bites and networking with friends in art. King Britt will provide the righteous beats for the day. At 5:30 PM, contemporary artist, Jefferson Pinder, will present his performance piece Dark Matter(s) reaching Lionz of Zion. Jefferson Pinder has created a morality play of sorts in which there is entanglement of music, athleticism and power. Slightly didactic, partly formal and consistently explosive, these break dancers will be lying their bodies On-The-Line to produce a dynamic performance that frighteningly brings rioting and B-Boy battles to contemporary art.

Fridge Art Fair Returns to Little Havana for Art Basel Miami Week
Fridge Art Fair is pleased to announce that its second Miami edition will take place at the 3rd Street Garage Artspace, 300 SW 12th Avenue, Miami with additional presentations at a legendary Little Havana location, Ball & Chain (http://www.ballandchainmiami.com/) December 4 – 9, 2014, thanks to major sponsorship by the Barlington Group and returning media sponsor Arte Fuse. Once again, Founding Director Eric Ginsburg, a noted painter in his own right (mainly for his soulful portraits of dogs), will lead the Fridge team.

“People should not be afraid to go and see art, and it should not cost a fortune,’ said Ginsburg. “I want people to be happy, we want everyone from all walks of life to come to this fair and say, ‘that was really cool!’” In that spirit he has subtitled this edition “De Staatliches Bauhaus Rijpe Mango Editie,” explaining:
“In Hinduism, Lord Ganesha holds a perfectly ripe mango as a symbol of the potential for perfection. The mango is a tropical icon, a fruit of love. Pure, but sexy…like Miami!”

Cara Hunter Viera of Fridge will produce the Fair and NYC based curator, writer and dealer Linda DiGusta, co-director of Fridge 2014 in New York, stays on the team as curatorial consultant.

Fridge Art Fair was born on New York’s Lower East Side in May 2013, making it’s debut – under the tagline “Can you fit into the Fridge?” — at Kazuko Miyamoto’s small but storied storefront, Gallery OneTwentyEight. The inaugural Miami show was presented at the somewhat more spacious Pax, on Calle Ocho. On March 31st 2014, Fridge was displaced from its expanded Lower East Side venue by the Dept. of Buildings closure of the historic and beloved Angel Orensanz Center, but was able to rebound and open as planned on May 8 and present an innovative, successful fair (including large-scale installations, a video lounge curated by Jeanne Wilkinson, and a Ferrari, presented by Dorian Grey Gallery, painted by John “Crash” Matos) at a 7,000 sf waterfront venue in Long Island City thanks to major sponsorship from Plaxall. With a loyal following of presenting galleries, organizations and artists, Fridge is growing while retaining its character as an intimate, accessible and enjoyable event.

Barlington Group was founded by Bill Fuller and Martin Pinilla II, in Miami Florida in June 2004, as an urban development company committed to revitalizing neighborhoods within Miami’s urban core. Since inception, Barlington Group has acquired, developed, and managed commercial projects with a value exceeding $50 million. Projects have focused on asset repositioning, ranging from multi-family, retail, office, and mixed use buildings. The company currently operates 100 plus multi-family units and more than 400,000 sqft of retail and office space in 13 retail and mixed-use centers. The company is also invested in retail, entertainment, and hospitality ventures. The core mission of the company is to have fun creating unique places to live, work, and play.http://www.barlingtongroup.com/company.html

Arte Fuse is a contemporary online art magazine featuring news, openings, events, galleries, studio visits and art reviews. Visiting as many shows and artist’s studios as possible, the publication offers readers a curated perspective of the art scene with special focus on New York. The magazine was founded by Jamie Martinez, Publisher and CEO, in 2008. http://artefuse.com/

X Contemporary is a contemporary art fair established in 2015 under the direction of Matthew Eck with a focus on galleries and cultural institutions who promote the work of emerging and mid career artists.

Opening in the Wynwood district, across from Wynwood Walls, the 28,000 square foot art fair will feature a selection of major exhibitions and over 27 exhibitors from the US, Europe and South America. The art fair will emphasize a crossover between postwar and contemporary art in specially curated projects that add depth to the fair’s exhibitions, while considering the art historic importance of the trends and cultural influences impacting artists today.

X Contemporary is excited to highlight a few key exhibitions presented at the fair, as special projects that will enrich attendee’s experiences with curated, survey and retrospective style shows.

Michael Klein Arts LLC will present, Grace Hartigan 1960-1965, The Perry Collection, an exhibition of paintings and collages that represent Hartigan’s Abstract Expressionist style as it evolved in the early 1960s. Hartigan was a key innovator amongst painters of the New York School and was the only female artist included in the traveling exhibit T he New American Painting, designed to introduce European audiences to American art. The variety of paintings in this anticipated exhibition will highlight Hartigan’s style of vivid color and texture painted on a large scale. The fair will provide the perfect opportunity to reintroduce Hartigan’s work to a professional audience of dealers, curators and critics. After its exhibition at X Contemporary, the collection will tour to other institutions both in the US and abroad.

Pamela Willoughby, an art consultant based in New York City and East Hampton that has served as an advisor to many respected contemporary collections, will showcase her expertise in post modern, contemporary and emerging art. Presenting iconic handmade postcard collages created by JeanMichel Basquiat early in his career, alongside work by renowned UK based mural artist, Hush, Willoughby Art Advisory will give viewers the opportunity to consider the genesis of street art incorporation into the New York gallery scene and its global evolution through today. This thought provoking range of work w ill also include work b y artists P eter Dayton, Dora Frost and photography by the artistic team Cyril Christo & Marie Wilkinson.

Castle Fitzjohns Gallery presents the original Pop Shop sign, painted by Keith Haring for the Lafayette St. gallery in 1986. The 10 panel Pop Shop Sign conceived and executed by Keith Haring in collaboration with Andre Charles extended across and around the building during its renovation beginning in the winter of 1986. The sign was made from an original sketch drawn by Haring and served as a temporary placard until it was removed from the building in the fall of 1987. At the time of its removal by the City of New York, artist Robin Van Arsdol acquired it for his private collection where it has remained ever since. It has been exhibited internationally and was featured in Germany in 2010 and and was then sent to an exhibition at the Russian State Art Museum in Moscow in May 2011.

TIMEBAG, the independently organized artist project based in Colombia, will present a survey of work by emerging, midcareer and established Colombian artists, titled Colombia N.O.W. T his project curated by Carlos Uribe, Gabriel Mario Vélez and Maria Luisa Vélez, invites a public discussion on the country and culture of Colombia today. In this dynamic exhibition, the artists reflect on several social, political and emotional landscapes of a contemporary Colombia. The presentation will include works by artists, Libia Posada, Jesús Abad Colorado, Fredy Alzate, Juan Raúl Hoyos, Víctor Garcés, Paulo Licona, Harold Ortiz, Juan David Henao, Sara Herrera, Juan Obando, and José Moreno.

International artist network, Berlin Collective works to connect artists with new exhibiting and collaborating opportunities. The group’s presentation at X Contemporary will include works by artists Eric Slayton, Elena Lyakir and Javier Barrera. I n presenting these works together, the comparison becomes relevant to understanding each artist’s journey and discovery. The selection highlights bold work by Eric Slayton and the addition to his G ravity Collection. As well as, new work by artist Eleana Lyakin, titled City Parks Romance. The presentation will also showcase a intaglio prints series by Javier Barrera, in which the artist uses hybrid forms of traditional and digital printmaking.

PRESS RELEASE:
In its 24th year, Art Miami, the leading international contemporary and modern art fair that takes place each December during Miami Art Week, and CONTEXT, the sister fair to Art Miami, closed with record-breaking attendance and impressive sales that exceeded 2012 reported sales figures. Many of the works sold to established as well as new collectors, museum professionals, private and corporate collections, cultural foundations, dealers, art advisors and consultants. More than 72,500 attendees visited Art Miami and CONTEXT throughout the week with more than 13,600 patrons attending the exclusive VIP Preview on Tuesday, Dec. 3, which benefited the Pérez Art Museum Miami. Additionally, more than 400 international members of the press attended and reported on the fairs.

Known as two of the most important annual contemporary art events in the United States, Art Miami and CONTEXT together showcased artists from more than 200 leading galleries representing 70 cities from 20 countries. The energy and enthusiasm of collectors were palpable as they acquired important works by established, emerging and mid-career, cutting edge artists. Several dealers sold out of their stock and had to rehang their walls as sculptures, photographs, paintings and video installations sold and resold multiple times. The open atmosphere between both fairs created an exciting and spirited dialogue between artists, galleries and collectors, and allowed for established galleries as well as emerging galleries to present classic, contemporary and emergent talent. The enormous turnout and acquisitions once again marked Art Miami and CONTEXT as the most high-trafficked fairs in the city of Miami.

Director Frej Forsblom of Galerie Forsblom in Finland said, “We are really happy with the results of this year’s fair. We sold more artwork than in 2012 at Art Miami. The quality of Art Miami is steadily improving each year with a higher caliber of galleries and art.”

Hollis Taggart, President of Hollis Taggart Galleries, said, “This year’s Art Miami fair was a huge success in terms of attendance and sales. Our gallery sold 15 works, most all of them to new collectors. This year’s fair had a more international flavor, with sales being made to several European collectors and to South American collectors, which is something new for us. All of our colleagues likewise reported strong sales and everyone came away from this show very pleased. It seems that many collectors who attend the Art Basel show in the Miami Convention Center have ‘discovered’ our Art Miami show, and many came over and bought from this fair. There is no question that Art Miami has a huge momentum, and I suspect this year’s edition broke all records for sales and attendance. Art Miami has become a recognized leader in the world of art fairs and is a force to be reckoned with. ”

Starting with the VIP Preview, art enthusiasts queued up in anticipation of the exhibitions. Throughout the fairs, the pavilions at Art Miami and CONTEXT were filled with some of the biggest names in the art world. From collectors to museums to celebrities to socialites, Art Miami and CONTEXT attracted a considerable number of influencers, including Martin and Audrey Gruss, John and Diane Sculley, Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado, Don and Mera Rubell, Jason Rubell, Edgardo and Ana Cristina Defortuna, Walid Wahad, Larry Williams, Commissioner Patrick Murphy, Tommy and Dee Hilfiger, Leo and Yvonne Force Villareal, Kim Heirston, Ted and Ruth Baum, Jessica Lichtenstein, Liu Bolin, Beth Lipman, John Henry, Peter Anton, Wendell Castle, Kim Heirston, Asher Edelman, Hadley Martin Fisher, Tommy and Dee Hilfiger, Jack and Debra Wexler, Jorge and Darlene Pérez, Marco Glaviano, Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, Michael and Seren Shvo, Val Kilmer, Manning Sloan, Ambassador Earle Mack, Herr Nilsson, Mr. Brainwash, Julia Jackson, Robert Fader, Jane Wooldridge, Elayne and Marvin Mordes, Arnie and Paola Rosenshein, J. Ricky Ariola, David Sydorick, Audrey and Martin Gruss, Eric and Liz Feder as well as Wilbur and Hilary Geary Ross and Janet Goldman, Chairman of Goldman Properties, with daughter Jessica Goldman Srebnick.

Art Miami and CONTEXT respectively showcased an impressive array of innovative installations and exhibitions:
ZOOM IN invited select artists to screen video works that the curatorial team of LaRete Art Projects deemed to be of notable significance. The winner of the 2013 ZOOM IN Award is artist Nicholas Pye represented by the Washington-D.C.-based gallery Curator’s Office. Pye received a check for $2,500.00, and Curator’s Office will receive a complimentary stand in the 2014 edition of CONTEXT.
THINK BIG, curated by LaRete Art Projects, allowed artists to exhibit in the passageways linking the fairs’ pavilions. These installations provided innovative, “big” approaches to artistic vision.
CHECK OUT, curated by LaRete Art Projects, selected provocative installations in areas of highest exposure both inside and outside the entrances to Art Miami and CONTEXT.
Art From Berlin, presented at CONTEXT, offered an insider’s view into Berlin’s influential art scene with a curated exhibition of the city’s contemporary art galleries and institutions, by six contemporary galleries selected by a panel of curators and art critics.

Among the dealers reporting six-and-seven-figure sales were Galerie von Vertes, Galerie Forsblom, Mayoral, Samuel Osborne, Armand Bartos Fine Art, Waterhouse & Dodd, Cernuda Arte, Allan Stone Gallery, Hollis Taggart Galleries, Michael Goedhuis, Antoine Helwaser Gallery, Simon Capstick-Dale Fine Art, Modernism, McCormick Gallery, DIE Galerie, Mark Borghi Fine Art and others. These included paintings, sculptures, mixed media works and photographs by blue chip artists Francis Bacon, Lynn Chadwick, Gerhard Richter, Xie Aige, Henry Moore, Tom Wesselman, Alex Katz, Sam Francis, Frank Stella, Robert Rauschenberg, John Chamberlain, David Hockney, Bernd Venet, Helen Frankenthaler, Andy Warhol, Mel Ramos, Alexander Calder and many others.

A sampling of some sales more than $1 million include a sculpture by Henry Moore; Lucio Fontana’s “Concetto spaziale, Atthese” 3 slashes painting; two Gerhard Richter paintings, one of which “Abstract Work” 1998, oil on canvas, sold for $3 million.

Six-figure sales far surpassed 2012 purchases for paintings, sculptures, photographs and mid-media works by artists such as Francis Bacon, Miguel Barcelo, Fernando Botero, Alexander Calder, Lynn Chadwick, Marc Chagall, John Chamberlain, Jim Dine, Sam Francis, Helen Frankenthaler, Adolph Gottlieb, Andreas Gursky, Keith Haring, Gottfried Helnwein, David Hockney, Robert Indiana, Alex Katz, Wilfredo Lam, Sol LeWitt, Valdes Manolo, Heiner Meyer, Norman Mooney, Vik Muniz, Victore Pasmore, A.R. Penck, Richard Prince, Mel Ramos, Robert Rauschenberg, Julian Schnabel, Wayne Thiebaud, Tom Wesselmann and other blue chip artists.

Avid interest in newer and mid-career, cutting edge artists translated into strong sales and sold out series of works by Dana Louise Kirkpatrick, Leo Villareal, Gregory Scott, Liu Bolin, Li Hongbo, Formento & Formento, Ruby Anemic, Beth Lipman, Gabi Trinkaus and many others at galleries which included Eli Klein Gallery, CONNERSMITH., Ethan Cohen Fine Arts, KM Fine Arts, Claire Oliver Gallery, Mike Weiss Gallery, De Buck Gallery, Julian Navarro, Heitsch Gallery, Lyons Wier Gallery, Magnan Metz Gallery and numerous others.

There was also tremendous demand for South American and Latin artists such as Gina Pellon, Raul Mazzoni, Enio Iomni, Manolo Valdes, Agustin Cardenas, Cundo Bermudez, Mario Carreno, Wilfredo Lam, Miguel Barcelo and other noted artists.

Miami resident Dennis Scholl, Vice President of the Arts for the Knight Foundation and avid collector of contemporary art for more than three decades, said that since Nick Korniloff took over as director, he has seen the quality of the art improve with more blue chip material. But also important has been the fair’s outreach to the local art community. “It has our namesake in it,” Scholl said. “It’s called Art Miami and it’s been around for a long time, but it has become very welcoming to the community. You have to give Nick credit for getting both of those pieces of the fair right.”

While attending the fairs, VIP attendees enjoyed many exciting, special events:
Guests were welcomed at the Maserati VIP Lounge where they enjoyed casual Italian cuisine and an interactive display of the all-new Quattroporte and the Ghibli S Q4 All-Wheel Drive.

Guided tours of Art Miami and CONTEXT were led by museum experts.

“We were delighted to once again welcome the world’s leading international art collectors, influential museum curators, designers, artists and art lovers who flocked to Art Miami and CONTEXT,” said Korniloff, Director and Partner, Art Miami. “We were also quite pleased with the extraordinary sales made throughout the fair – including multiple sold out booths – and the success we had connecting serious collectors with the most prominent galleries from around the globe. We must also acknowledge the extraordinary contributions of our official sponsors: Maserati North America, Christie’s International Real Estate, Canon U.S.A., Inc., Bang & Olufsen, JW Marriott Marquis Miami and Hotel Beaux Arts Miami. Friday, February 14 at 2:30 p.m. – “Olga de Amaral: The Mantle of Memory” by Agnes Monplaisir
Monplaisir looks at the work of this famous Colombian artist, now 82 years old, who has been at the forefront of Latin-American abstraction since the 1960s. Her work is in many major museum collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, The Art Institute of Chicago, and The Renwick Gallery of the National Gallery, Washington, D.C.

Saturday, February 15 at 2:30 p.m. – “Contemporary Chinese Brush Painting” by Michael Goedhuis
For the last 20 years, Michael Goedhuis has been at the forefront of the popularization of contemporary Chinese art. Goedhuis will examine that tradition, its relevance today, and how new works can be combined with ancient material. Goedhuis has held many exhibitions on the new Chinese brush painters, most recently at the Saatchi Gallery in London in 2013.

Saturday, February 15 at 4 p.m. – "Collecting Your Own Hermitage Museum" by Alexander V. Kruglov, Ph.D.
Kruglov, present curator of Phoenix Ancient Art (Geneva + New York) and past associate curator of Classical Antiquities at The State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia, will share how Catherine the Great’s passion for collecting inspired the significant establishment of the museum 250 years ago. Beside paintings and gems, Catherine acquired drawings of classical ruins and antique sculptures helping to assemble one of the most spectacular Neo-Classical ensembles in Europe of the Enlightenment. During his lecture, Kruglov will explore what masterpieces from today’s art and antiquities market might attract Catherine the Great’s discerning eye.

Sunday, February 16 at 2:30 p.m. – Wendy Maruyama: Art + Design as Advocacy
Maruyama has been making furniture/art since 1970. Her work is often inspired by extended residencies and visits to various countries such as France, England, Japan, Korea and China. Born in Colorado to second-generation Japanese American parents, her work vacillates between creating works that emulate and satirize contemporary Japan, among other cultures. Her newest work, “Executive Order 9066,” is influenced by personal and family history and addresses the internment of 120,000 Japanese Americans in 1942.

Monday, February 17 at 2:30 p.m. – “Discovering an Ancient Culture through the Contemporary Art Movement of Australia’s Aboriginal People” by Jennifer Guerinni-Maraldi
While travelling in Australian in the early 1990s, Guerinni-Maraldi and her husband purchased a major work by Freddie Timms “Sugar Bag,” acrylic on canvas, painted during the artist’s time working with Frank Watters (Watters Gallery) in Sydney. This magical painting was the catalyst that spurred Guerinni-Maraldi to begin exhibiting and selling contemporary art in London in the new millennium. Each year, she travels to Australia visiting remote indigenous communities, curators, collectors and artists. Her efforts in the United Kingdom aim to establish a greater awareness of high quality indigenous work and to build a stronger market for ethically sourced, contemporary
Australian indigenous fine art.

MA+D joins the prestigious roster of fairs organized by IFAE including the18th edition of the American International Fine Art Fair in Palm Beach being held this February 4 – 9, the 5th annual Miami International Art Fair (MIA), the 17th annual Art Palm Beach (APB), as well as many boutique fairs and events aboard SeaFair, the megayacht venue.

International Fine Art Expositions (IFAE) founders David and Lee Ann Lester have pioneered more international fine art fairs than any global fair organizer since 1991, having established Art Miami in January 1991, The Palm Beach International Art & Antique Fair (now AIFAF) in 1997, Art Palm Beach in 1998 and MIA in 2010. They have organized more than 90 international art fairs, worldwide, in New York, Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, Chicago, Dallas, London and Hong Kong.

Photographs of Spectrum Miami Art Fair 12/4/13-12/7/13

Spectrum Miami Art Fair during Art Basel Miami Art Week.

We want to thank Spectrum Miami for giving back to the Miami community by raising funds for Life Is Art.

Redwood Media Group, parent company of Artexpo, SPECTRUM Art Fairs, DECOR Expo and Art Business News, today announced significant sales and high attendance at SPECTRUM Miami and ArtSpot International Art Fair. The show took place Wednesday, December 4 – Sunday, December 8, in the heart of the Wynwood Art District, and welcomed a crowd of more than 4,200 guests on its opening night and more than 26,000 collectors, buyers, art supporters and guests for the duration of the show. SPECTRUM Miami and ArtSpot International’s guests enjoyed artist unveilings, a live photo shoot with Miami City Ballet Dancers and NY Times bestselling author Jordan Matter, as well as a wide array of innovative, contemporary art works, including photography, works on paper, sculpture, and installations from emerging and established artists.

The art fair, which showcased pieces from mid-career artists and established national and international galleries, caters to high-end collectors, buyers and art enthusiasts. Housed within the SPECTRUM tent was the independent show, ArtSpot International, organized by Aldo Castillo. ArtSpot 2013 presented carefully selected, modern and cutting-edge galleries exhibiting contemporary art. The show merged a range of international art with Chinese and Latin American influences and represented an underserved international art community, while offering gallery owners, designers, architects and collectors extraordinary creations by innovative, established artists.

There was a dynamic mix of compelling contemporary art at this year’s show – from sculpture to photography, mixed media, abstract art and more. As a result, artist and exhibitor sales were plentiful and collectors walked away with some exceptional new pieces.

Here are some highlights from SPECTRUM and ArtSpot International:
The Selby Fleetwood Gallery brought works that were displayed both inside and outdoors. They sold five pieces, including Susan Stamm Evans’ “Threads” for $40,000 and a piece by Kevin Box for $20,000.
Gordon Huether had a remarkable show as well. His “Stix & Stones” went for $28,000, his “Sweet Orange Lens” at $9,500,” items from his “Silver Lens” series at $8,500 each and in the last three minutes of the show collectors claimed $18,500 worth of exceptional works.
The Americas Collection gallery has sales in process for $76,000 from highlighted artists Pablo Martinez and Wladimiro Politano.
Ford Fine Art sold a Diego Rivera to a collector from Mexico and has sales in process for $140,000 overall.
Aldo Castillo Gallery sold seven works by Emil Alzamora, three works by Fredy Villamil, four works by Adriana Carvalho and eight installations by Ancizar Marin among others.
Cuban artist Humberto Benitez sold a total of seven works; his highest-selling piece was “Los Invitados,” which went for $23,000.
Ben Joyce moved three pieces and lined up ten commissions for his signature “Abstract Topophilia” works (inspired by Google Earth images). His highest-seller was “San Francisco,” which sold for $11,000.
Sculptor Thomas Wargin came close to selling out his booth. His top-selling piece was “A Ride with the Angel of Death,” which sold for $7,000.
33 Contemporary Gallery—featuring the Zhou Brothers along other artists from China, Europe, the United States and Mexico—has sales in process for $36,000 from Harry Sudman, Dana Major and Christine Forni.
There were many other sales as well. Nicole Furman sold three pieces (“Kissin’ Minnie” was the highest seller at $5,000), Art Company Misoolsidae sold five (their highest seller was $5,700), and Current Art Group sold a $9,000 piece by artist Magaly Barrola Otola and has sales in progress for up to $60,000, among others.

In addition to the vast array of contemporary works at the show, SPECTRUM and ArtSpot saw some classics from Chagall, Picasso, Latin American masters born before 1940 and other masters shown by Old Towne Gallery.

SPECTRUM After Dark, a VIP opening preview party, included artist unveilings and musical entertainment from Miami’s DJ What, along with passed hors d’oeuvres, complimentary products from VitaCoco and KIND snacks, as well as complimentary cocktails and wine from Tanduay Asian rum, Belaya Rus vodka and Repeat Wines. The evening also featured a live photo shoot with Miami City Ballet dancers and Jordan Matter, photographer and New York Times bestselling author of “Dancers Among Us.”

This year, show organizers partnered with Life Is Art, a local not-for-profit organization that works to promote and support the arts and the community in South Florida through events and education. As such, SPECTRUM donated a ticket portion of its sales to benefit Life Is Art and its initiatives from the opening night party, and requested donations from guests throughout the show. Redwood Media Group is pleased to announce that the art fair raised more than $5,000 for Life Is Art.

Following the show, Redwood Media Group announced that SPECTRUM will be returning to Miami next year during Art Week Miami from December 4-7, 2014 (preview party slated for Dec. 3). The show will be located at a new location in the Wynwood Art District: adjacent to Art Miami and Context.

"We can now provide our loyal international collector base with opportunities to acquire works of art at the highest level from all categories of the contemporary market."

Art Miami Expands Reach And Artistic Range With A Trio Of Fairs During Miami Art Week, December 2013

Miami’s Original Art Fair Unveils Its First Production of Aqua Art Miami at South Beach Hotel and Its Second Edition of Context

Art Miami, the city’s longest-running contemporary and modern art fair, will return for its 24thedition during Art Week, Dec. 3 through Dec. 8, 2013. The anchor fair for the City of Miami has expanded to include two additional contemporary art fairs: Context in a 45,000-square-foot pavilion adjacent to Art Miami in the Wynwood Arts District; and Aqua Art Miami at the Aqua Hotel on Collins Avenue in South Beach.

World-renowned for its refined ambience, consummate quality and accessible fdiversity, Art Miami now encompasses all levels of the international contemporary art market: from the modern masterpieces and blue-chip contemporary works at Art Miami, to the cutting-edge pieces by rising and mid-career talents at Context, as well as the latest output from emerging artists ripe for discovery at Aqua Art Miami. The purchase of eight-year-old Aqua during Art Week 2012 brought the perennially popular satellite into the fold of Art Miami LLC, which is retaining Aqua’s relaxed, youthful vibe while providing the amenities, infrastructure and collector base that have become signatures of its other fairs.

On the mainland at the Midtown Miami complex, the juxtaposition of 125 galleries at Art Miami with 65 at Context – hailing from 15 countries in the Americas, Europe and Asia, as well as from all around the United States – forms a comprehensive art community spanning 250,000 square feet. The 2012 debut of this world-class pairing in the Wynwood Arts District attracted a record-breaking 60,000 visitors and generated sales of more than $50 million.

Art Miami and Context will present a series of special exhibitions curated by Julia Draganović, Elena Forin and Claudia Löffelholz of LaRete Art Projects. Check Out will install captivating and provocative sculptures, displayed by selected exhibitors, in prime positions inside as well as outside, between and in front of, the neighboring pavilions. Think Big will give artists participating in Art Miami space to stretch out in the passageways linking the flagship fair’s three main pavilions, making solo statements bold not only in scale but also in vision and innovation.

Zoom In, the sixth annual Art Video | New Media Lounge, now located at Context, will focus on a single institution specializing in digital and moving images. Five galleries will also be invited to screen video works by artists that LaRete believes warrant a closer look. An independent jury of video art experts will view the pieces onsite and choose one artist to honor with the first annual Zoom In Award on Saturday, Dec. 7.

Context will once again offer insight into Berlin’s influential art scene with six contemporary galleries selected by a panel of expert curators and art critics. ART FROM BERLIN is presented by the Galleries Association of Berlin (LVBG) – with official support from the municipality of Berlin and the European Union (EU) – which will entertain and enlighten guests at the Berlin Lounge. This microcosm of the global art capital’s dynamic gallery community will include a cross-section of established and emerging exhibitors, each spotlighting two or three artists.

Art Miami and CONTEXT will kick off Art Week on Tuesday, Dec. 3, with the annual must-see VIP Preview, attended by 11,000 art connoisseurs last year. The beneficiary will once again be the Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM), opening concurrently in a grand new Herzog & de Meuron-designed building on the downtown waterfront. This exclusive evening will serve as the first opportunity for discerning collectors to acquire the most coveted works of art available from the 20th and 21st centuries a day before the fairs open to the general public.
