The South Florida Seafood Festival is a celebration of all-things seafood, waterfront living and giving people their fill of the freshest, tastiest delicacies of the sea. What better way to celebrate Stone Crab Season than to enjoy them by the sea at the festival’s Casablanca Fish Market. With live Caribbean beats and a Live Music Stage featuring Bootleg Rock Band and Marquise Fair, grownups can enjoy unique cocktails at the Shipwreck Bar & Lounge and participate in a complimentary Sipsmith Tasting Experience, featuring Sipsmith Gin and an elaborate garnish bar, along with selections from Stella Artois, Landshark, Bud Light and Papa’s Pilar Rum, to name a few. Come hungry, because 25+ gourmet seafood culinary partners at this family-friendly event will offer the freshest seafood all afternoon, including lobster rolls from Mobstah Lobstah, conch fritters, ceviche, paella, buckets o’ shrimps, snow crabs and so much more.

Guests are encouraged to take part in the Kitchen Lab Cooking Workshop, where Plomo Taco Bar, The Local Craft Food & Drink, Aromas Del Peru, Jaguar, and St. Roche Market: Elysian Seafood will conduct seafood cooking demos throughout the day, while others will take part in the Battle of the Bay competition. The Family Fun Zone and Eco Discovery Zone is where kids can be free to explore and test their pirate skills at the obstacle courses, inflatable bounce house and giant slides. Be sure to save some time to browse vendors selling nautical-themed jewelry, art, and decorations. If that weren’t enough, the Paul Castronovo Show from BIG 105.9, will be at the festival as part of their Hectic Tour. Macchialina, Miami Beach’s stellar Italian restaurant, will host an exclusive wine dinner with the acclaimed Italian winery Frattoria dei Barbi on Monday, October 8, 2019.

Beyond its food, artfully created and executed by chef/owner Michael Pirolo, Macchialina is known as a must-try destination for wine lovers; especially those seeking unique, obscure and amazing Italian wines.

Overseen by director of operations and co-owner Jacqueline Pirolo, Macchialina’s wine list is a treasure trove for oenphiles and those with a case of Italophilia. So it’s little surprise that Macchialina would host a dinner with this revered winery.

Benefiting the Broward Health Foundation’s Lillian S. Wells Women’s Health Center

In support of the Glam-A-THON™ – a local nonprofit that assists underfunded women undergoing breast cancer treatment – famed Iron Chef and Food Network Chopped judge, Geoffrey Zakarian, invites guests to celebrate stone crab season with the second annual “Stone Crabs for a Cause” on October 19th at Point Royal.

Zakarian, whose culinary career spans more than 30 years as an acclaimed chef, restaurateur, cookbook author, and TV personality, will serve as host for the evening, curating a four-course dinner that highlights one of Florida’s most beloved seasonal seafoods – stone crabs. The menu will be paired with premium wines from Bodvár House of Rosé.

Open to the public for $155 per person, a portion of proceeds from the event will be donated to Glam-A-THON™, which has raised more than $500,000 over the past six years to help fund free mammograms, diagnostic testing and other needs associated with treatment though the Broward Health Foundation’s Lillian S. Colada’s delicious Cuban-American- inspired menu offers guests a varied selection of authentic Cuban food and beverages made fresh daily. The popular breakfast menu features an assortment of coffees, including cortaditos, Cuban coffee, iced coffees and café americanos, along with a tempting list of breakfast sandwich options made with combinations of eggs, meats and cheeses. Lunch favorites consist of some traditional and some not-so-traditional choices, such as a Cuban Philly sandwich made with fresh ropa vieja, sweet and spicy guava chicken wings, empanadas or a make-your-own Colada bowl, which involves choosing a protein, base, toppings and a signature sauce. Fritas, guava pastries, croquettes and delectable desserts, including Cuban flan and tres leches, are also available.
Colada serves red wine sangria and sake-based mojitos that are made in-house, as well as a selection of local craft beers on tap.

SPF’18 will take over FATVillage Saturday, November 10, 2018, for an epic, print-happy day of exhibitors, with a market of print, book and zine exhibitors from Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Boca Raton, Orlando, Gainesville and beyond, a giant steamroller pressing the largest prints of the fair, live demonstrations of print-making techniques, creation stations and art making activities, a stage of author and poets talks, a cabana with ice cold, locally crafted beer, food trucks and so much more!

SPF’18 will showcase a diverse range of local and regional artists, printers, publishers, authors, poets, bookmakers, designers, zinesters and cultural workers, sharing and exhibiting new work related to printmaking, book making and zine creation.

What is a zine? A zine (/ˈziːn/ ZEEN; short for magazine or fanzine) is most commonly a small-circulation, self-published work of original or appropriated texts and images, usually reproduced via photocopier or similarly inexpensive means. Zines are usually the product of a single person, or of a very small group. The primary intent is to advance the views of the creator rather than profit, since the time and materials necessary to create a zine are seldom matched by revenue from its sale. Zines tend to deal with subjects that are too controversial or niche for mainstream media.

SPF’18 exhibitors will take over The Projects in FATVillage, Fort Lauderdale, a 8,000+ sq ft warehouse space, celebrating the growing interest and support for independent and small press artists and publishers that have fueled the sub-culture in South Florida for years.

Funding for SPF’18 is provided in part by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners as recommended by the Broward Cultural Council as well as the following Funds from the Community Foundation of Broward: Fonda and H. Wayne Huizenga, Jr Family Trust Fund, Gary J. Scotto Fund and Mary and Alex Mackenzie Community Impact Fund. Additional funding is provided in part by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners as recommended by the Broward Cultural Council and Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Shore Club’s brand-new Mexican restaurant, Diez y Seis, has announced the launch of a brand new weekly concept with a pool-side Brunch unlike any other – Brunch a la Mexicana! The brunch will launch Sunday, September 16th (Mexican Independence Day) and will continue every Saturday afterwards! Guests are invited to join Diez y Seis as they prepare a full day of delicious food, table-side hand-crafted cocktails, live music and an exciting and high-spirited ambiance during their buffet-style brunch for $50++pp. You can even catch those much needed zzz’s and fill your bellies as this brunch starts at 11:30am and ends at 4pm, catering to those late sleepers.

What’s on the menu? Created by critically acclaimed Executive Chef Jose Icardi, there will be two stations – one hot and one cold. The Hot Station will cook up a variety of sweet and savory favorites including traditional egg dishes, a range of delectable freshly-cut meats (bacon, sausage etc.), Mexican-style hot plates and Chef’s choice of a sweet plate which may include their already much-admired breakfast dishes: Mexican style French toast or pancakes. The Cold Station will offer only the freshest deli style cold cuts, an assortment of different types of breads & cheeses, build-your-own parfaits and of course, pastries. I’m not salivating you’re salivating….

Remember when I mentioned this brunch will be unlike any other? ROLL on in Diez y Seis’ specialty table-side beverage cart fully stocked to prepare only the best $15 build-your-own Bloody Marys (vodka-based) and Bloody Marias (tequila & mezcal based)! Brunchers can chose from three different mixes (Spicy, Traditional &Tomatillo) and then pick out their own toppings to add. If you’re more of the unlimited drinking type (it’s brunch after-all), $12 unlimited champagne will also be offered throughout. Want to feel better about guzzling down 4 glasses of champagne before noon? Ginger and wheat grass shots will also be available for purchase as well as Chef’s choice of fresh pressed juice of the day.

As if you even needed another reason to join the fiesta, brunch will launch on September 16th, which is the exact English translation of what the restaurant, Diez y Seis, stands for and pays homage to – Mexican Independence Day! So, in honor of this national holiday Latin Grammy® Nominated producer and re-mixer, Mr. Pauer will entice guests with some Pauerful brunch vibes playing his signature sound, “Electrópico,” for guests to brunch and fiesta to throughout the day. Last year with the community’s support, Guitars Over Guns raised $165,000 to support our arts-based mentoring programs for Miami’s at-risk youth. With these funds, over 700 kids are being served at 14 sites through the Summer of 2018, bringing the total to over 2,500 youth served over the last 9 years. This year, our goal is to raise $300,000, allowing Guitars Over Guns to transform the futures of 500 additional students living in Miami-Dade County’s most disadvantaged communities.

This event celebrates Guitars Over Guns’ 10 years of of making music and changing lives. For the first time in its 17-year history, Dolphin Mall will launch its very own featured restaurant program, Dolphin Spice. Throughout the month of September eight of the mall’s eclectic restaurants will feature a variety of lunch and dinner tasting menus at discounted prices.

“Miami has an incredible international food scene and Dolphin Spice is a month-long celebration of all that makes our unique culinary experience so special,” said Madelyn Bello Calvar, the mall’s marketing and sponsorship director. “Dolphin Spice will feature restaurants that offer something for everyone, even the most discerning of palates.”

MegaRumba to Support Those in Need of Food and Medicine in Venezuela

SWARM and iHeart’s TU 94.9 have once again partnered to bring MegaRumba to Wynwood. This year, they will be raising funds in support of the Cuatro Por Venezuela Foundation, which has been fighting hunger, illness, and poverty in Venezuela since 2016. Taking place on the 20th of July, this festival of independence for all Hispanic cultures welcomes everyone to join in this single collective celebration, being a source of mutual pride and unity, and allowing everyone to enjoy a variety of Latin music, flavors, dancing, arts and crafts.

For the first time ever in the U.S., Danny Ocean will perform “Me Rehuso” at MegaRumba. Also performing live is Sofia Reyes, winner of an MTV Millennial, Latin Grammy and iHeart Media Award, as well as Grammy and Latin Grammy nominated bilingual Latin band, Locos Por Juana. Venezuelan singer/actor Victor Drijo and Nicole Favre will also join iHeart radio’s ever-popular DJ’s on center stage. In addition, there will be food trucks, arts & craft vendors, and several fully stocked bars, offering everything from the best of Bud Light and mixed drinks to specialty flavored mojitos by Cruzan.

The festival will run from 7PM to 3AM and it will continue to be FREE to enjoy. With the purchase of a $10 donation ticket, people can help Venezuela, but also enjoy a free Bud Light and shot from the giant Aguardiente Ice Luge ($19 value). Cuatro Por Venezuela Foundation will receive 100% of that ticket, so they may continue to provide educational, medical, and nutritional aid to Venezuelans in need. “Venezuela is under a profound humanitarian crisis, and we want to do something about it. One of the great things about Miami is our ethnic unity and getting to witness the neighborly love as the melting pot of Latin cultures come together in times of need. We are eager to help in this time of desperation in Venezuela and are excited to contribute towards uniting others in helping as well,” says Tony Albelo, SWARM CEO. On Tuesday, June 5, 2018, Ofa Restaurant – Sunset Harbour’s progressive Brazilian hotspot – will host an exclusive wine pairing dinner featuring the acclaimed wines of Rioja winery, Beronia. This five-course dinner will be prepared by Executive Chef Flavia Carnicelli and will take diners on a culinary adventure by pairing regional Brazilian cuisine with Spanish wines.

On June 30, Schnebly Redlands Winery will release the Lychee fruits of their labor in a most entertaining way during their Lychee Summer Celebration (LSC), partnering for the first time with the South Dade Chamber of Commerce and the American Cancer Society. The family friendly event has been a source of pride to the area, with South Florida being the only place in the Continental United States where the Lychee fruit is grown. The celebration will begin at 2pm, when the Farmer’s Market opens with 50 vendors and six food trucks. At the Grand Tiki Culinary Lounge, guests will expand their food knowledge and watch Cooking Demos on how to incorporate lychee, local and organic foods in the kitchen. A family Mud Run, an awards ceremony, and live music will round out the celebration only to culminate with a patriotic fireworks display.

“This year’s Lychee harvest is the largest crop we’ve seen in years, not only did the trees survive Hurricane Irma, but the crop was actually improved by the stress of Irma; it’s a testament to the strength of the South Florida community and its agricultural roots,” says Peter Schnebly, Founder of Schnebly Winery. During the Summer Celebration, the Winery will be offering three Lychee wines, and three limited special release Lychee beers from Miami Brewing Company. Several South Florida restaurants and food trucks will offer their culinary take on the Lychee fruit by way of creative recipes, such as Lychee Seafood Ceviche and Lychee Martini Ice Cream. The possibilities are endless, and Schnebly can’t wait to see their partners get creative with this year’s harvest at the Culinary Grand Tiki Lounge featuring StartUP FIU Food Mentors such as Half Moon Empanadas, Pro Kitchen Hub, My Ceviche, and Lulu’s Ice Cream, to name a few.

While guests enjoy the different variations of Lychee, they can also browse 200+ classic/modern Chevrolet Corvettes, custom cars, Jeeps, 4x4s and other classics throughout the day. The Lychee Summer Celebration Meet Up will be hosted by Corvettes & Coffee and Cecil’s Jeep Fam. Guests can also explore over 40+ artisan and craft vendors in the Artist Colony as they sculpt, sew and sand down hand-made goods. In addition, Live Painting Sessions will showcase some of the area’s best muralists using 40 ft. long shipping containers as their canvas.

At 5pm, the first Schnebly Family Mud Run will kick off, benefitting the American Cancer Society to fund cancer research. Participating runners will be given a glow necklace to display the Cancer they’ll be running for, while conquering an “all new” course compete with obstacles. While the five-kilometer course will honor the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners during an official ceremony before the fireworks, every runner will receive a medal to commemorate their run. All proceeds from the run will go to the American Cancer Society, and anyone who buys a ticket for the run will get free admission to the Lychee Summer Celebration; family members get special pricing on LSC tickets with Runner Registration.
