Celebrate the Earth and add to Mother Nature’s flora by planting a garden at 1 Hotel South Beach. Guests can stop by the lobby to choose from a selection of herbs, vegetables and flower seeds, and share a little goodness from the ground up.

Less Than Charm – Ongoing, daily. Front Desk & Concierge. Open to hotel guests.
Keep good intentions around with a ‘less than’ charm that guests can receive upon check-in, check-out or at Concierge. Serving as a friendly reminder to consume a little less every day, the charm is a simple sentiment aimed to inspire guests.

Earth Day Celebration – 3 p.m. – close, daily. Tom On Collins/Lobby. Open to public.
Guests can celebrate throughout 1 Hotel South Beach with various Earth Day happenings throughout the property including canapes from Beachcraft, Plnthouse and The Sandbox, live music in the lobby starting at 8 p.m. nightly with a special Earth Day set on Saturday with local band Brothers of Others. Indulge with an Earth Day Specialty cocktail at Tom On Collins available through Sunday. Guests can will their intentions into existence by stopping by the communal table at Tom On Collins and add their intentions to the Intention Tree. Dune Restoration Project with Citi Bike – 10 a.m. – noon, Miami Beach Boardwalk. Riders to meet on the corner of 24th Street and Collins Ave. Open to hotel guests and select invites.
Join a Citi Bike tour to visit various Miami Beach restricted dune areas near 1 Hotel South Beach. Bikers will get in-depth information from a Surfrider panelist on the effects of dune erosion and the importance of restoration, along with a plant for riders to plant at their stop. All riders will receive a “Do All The Good You Can” t-shirt and JUST water bottles.

Strengthen & Push Yourself Like a Spartan – 10 a.m. – 11 a.m., Spartan Gym. Open to public.
Get insider access to the exclusive Spartan Gym at 1 Hotel South Beach with this special Earth Day experience with Coach Lawrence. Guests can improve mobility, strength and endurance with an animal flow warm-up followed by a challenging strength-based circuit workout with unique obstacles and functional training exercises. Guests of all ages will be able to release butterflies back into their natural habitat at the Hatchery at the Center pool entrance. Butterflies are beneficial to the environment through the symbiotic relationship they maintain with plants they visit and their preferences for organic, native habitats.

Sunset Elemental Flow & Mind Meditation – 6 p.m. – 7:45 p.m., Plnthouse Terrace. Open to public.
Connect body with nature as 1 Hotel South Beach launches its first wellness activation with a sunset yoga and meditation event. Start with a guided mediation before shifting awareness and engaging the body with a Water and Fire yoga practice. Journey towards savasana as the yoga session ends with a guided ending meditation. Wynwood will see the streets come alive for the fourth annual Wynwood Life! It is held in Miami’s Art and Cultural District and is a true celebration of all things we love about South Florida – Food, Art, Music and Fashion! Twenty thousand people will fill the streets perusing art, crafts, jewelry and over 100 vendors all while being entertained by live art and music and noshing on local fare from over 40 food trucks!

WynwoodMap.com and The RAW Project will curate the Live Art Stage featuring a wide variety of street artists from around the World. The festival encourages students and emerging artists to take part in the “Emerging Artist Competition”. Wynwood Life is proud to have the Miami Art & Design Education Institute (M.A.D.E.) as the presenting sponsor, because M.A.D.E is known for elevating people’s art and design career to the next level by way of their industry-driven approach to education, through coaching, mentoring, and networking in the heart of Miami’s Art District. In addition, WYN 317 Gallery will be the gallery partner as well as being on the selection committee.

Over 20 bands and DJs will occupy the Live Music Stage featuring local favorites and hometown bands gone big such as Otto Von Schirach, Tamboka, Jeano Music, Hoy Palloy, Zander and many more.

The Style Lounge will offer free services including nail polish changes, a braid station and Henna. The Spot Barbershop will have a pop up for the men, and stylists will showcase multiple fashion shows by local boutiques, fashion bloggers including iShine365, Dyme Lyfe, graciouslylovedllc, Koko and Palenki, to name a few.

The Wynwood Culinary Showcase will feature top restaurants and chefs from the area providing teachable moments such as Chef Cesar Zapata from Phuc yea, who will teach us how to cook a whole fish. This year, the stage will also invite South Florida chefs outside of Wynwood who are taking the culinary scene to a higher level. Scheduled to make demos are Max Santiago, Bunnie Cakes, Crave Clean, Copper 29, and more. The Bitter Truth will have a pop up where they’ll carve the ice for each cocktail with a chainsaw, and they will also compete against Employees Only to come up with the “Best Cocktail” at Wynwood Life.

MCCJ is pleased to announce that this year’s recipient of the Hank Meyer National Headliner Award is Charles Blow, New York Times Op-Ed columnist since 2008.

The Hank Meyers Award goes to journalists who mirror MCCJ’s mission of creating an inclusive community. Past honorees of this award include Walter Cronkite, Dan Rather, Barbara Walters, Tom Brokaw, Leonard Pitts Jr., ABC’s John Quiñones and Meet the Press moderator Chuck Todd.

Charles Blow joined The New York Times in 1994 as a graphics editor and quickly became the paper’s graphics director, a position he held for nine years. In that role, he led the publication to a best of show award from the Society of News Design for the information graphics coverage of 9/11, the first time the award had been given for graphics coverage. He also led the paper to its first two best in show awards from the Malofiej International Infographics Summit for work that included coverage of the Iraq war. Blow is the author of “Fire Shut Up in My Bones,” released in September 2014. He graduated magna cum laude from Grambling State University in Louisiana, where he received a B.A. in mass communications.

MCCJ was founded in Miami in 1935 as the Miami Coalition of Christians & Jews. It creates a safe haven for dialog, trains inclusive leaders and promotes understanding for all faiths, races and cultures through education, advocacy and conflict resolution. It hosts the oldest interfaith clergy dialog in the United States and presents prejudice reducing programs in local high schools, among other activities. The 117 Girls’ Club building opened in the fall of 2007, renovated for use as an unpredictable art space by local architect and designer Margi Nothard of Glavovic Studio. Founded by Francie Bishop Good and David Horvitz, and led by director Michelle Weinberg, Girls’ Club opened as the only private collection open to the public with a focus on contemporary art by women, in the world.

Throughout its 10-year history, the building has stood as a convergence point and catalyst for the growing contemporary art developments in the Fort Lauderdale and Broward County area. Its galleries have witnessed 10 major exhibitions of contemporary art, curated by emerging and mid career artists and curators. The building has hosted film screenings, artist talks, stitch and bitches, professional development workshops, experimental theatre, lectures, musical performances, parties, dinners, outreach workshops and countless student and community tours. Its walls have supported students artists, emerging artists, critically acclaimed artists, international rock star artists, both female and male. It’s doors have welcomed women, men, dogs, cats, lizards, students, children, carebears, and everything in between in an effort to fulfill its mission to educate the public, act as a resource and the nurture of the careers of contemporary female artists.

It’s almost time to ring in the New Year and Our Passion at the Trio is ready to celebrate! Chef Lobeck has created a four-course meal for all his guests to enjoy at $50 per person, which also includes a glass of wine or a glass of champagne. On December 31st, Vagabond Kitchen and Bar is offering guests two dinner seatings to ring in the New Year. The first seating, 5:30-7:00pm, is a set 3-course meal for $75 per person. The meal starts off with an Alaskan King Crab with apple cider foam, cucumber, apple, and golden osetra caviar followed by a Diver scallop served with polenta cake. The third course is delicious Surf & Turf made of prime beef tenderloin, Maine lobster, sautéed maitake mushrooms, mashed potatoes with lobster béarnaise. Guests can choose to add fresh black mashed potatoes for $15. Vagabond is offering guests both a Dark Chocolate Bar made with chocolate ganache, hazelnut and caramel Pistacchio ice cream; and a Rouge Surprise, mascarpone mousse, creamy raspberry, cherry cream, and pistachio. The second seating is a 4-course meal beginning at 9:00pm. This seating has all the same dishes as the first seating along with a Black Truffle Gnocchi served with mascarpone, parmesan and shaved black truffle. This 4-course meal is $115 per person including a champagne toast at midnight, or $165 per person including a champagne bottle per couple. Open bar is available bar side only at $75 per person from 11:00pm-2:30am including a champagne toast at midnight. Building CommUnity Party will Celebrate Growth of Supportive Space for Local Nonprofits!

Community residents along with local leaders across greater Miami are invited to come together for a celebratory evening at the Center for Social Change. The party is taking place on the brand new 5th floor, which is part of our Center’s expansion that has more than doubled the original co-working and event space capacity for South Florida nonprofits and social entrepreneurs. While Building CommUnity is technically free to attend, we are also fundraising for the development of a 1,500 sq. ft. outdoor patio with gorgeous, expansive views of surrounding neighborhoods. This 5th floor patio will provide a new venue for various community events, and if funds are raised in time, the goal is to open it Spring 2017. There’s a suggested “CommUnity Builder” donation of $25.00, and we’ll be engraving donor names on the patio’s railing when it’s completed.

About the Center for Social Change – Founded in Summer 2014, we house one of South Florida’s first coworking spaces and community environment for mission-driven leaders and organizations including nonprofits and social entrepreneurs. With affordable workspace options, meeting spaces, and access to events and educational opportunities, we provide a community of support in which to work, connect, innovate, and learn.

The second Halloween Edition of Bay Skate Miami is just around the corner coming up on Saturday, October 29th at Bayfront Park. With rumors vehemently circulating the industry, it would be well advised for Ladies to grab their dirndl dresses and for men to pull on their Lederhosen as the Miami Rooftop is hosting their very first Oktoberfest.

Bulks of steins have been seen being carried through Pawn Broker’s back door in anticipation of the rooftop’s latest festivities, and it has been revealed that after many late lunches and evening drinks with Miami’s finest bacon connoisseurs, the Miami Smokers & PB Station’s Chef Guillermo Concha, Chef Jose Mendin is very much prepared to host the greatest party the Miami Rooftop has seen to date. And that’s saying a lot, as previous parties have gone down in the books.

With a reputable liquor and cocktail menu, Pawn Broker are said to give a gracious nod to the alcoholic wonders Bavarian history has produced, with a refined list of Deutschland beers and other nation’s glorious ales and lagers. It’s also alleged that the Miami Rooftop will be embracing their celebrated Pawn Broker cocktails with a slight twist to the regular menu, beer being the supplementary ingredient to a collection of novel Oktoberfest cocktails.

Thursdays are known for the rooftop’s resident DJ Vinyl Night and so there is a high possibility of one or two beer spillages from all the excitement. And as Bavarian folk festivals go, they are known to be anything but tame, of which with Pawn Brokers reputation, the bar is sure to live up to it.

Craft beer lovers know that Grovetoberfest is a fun way to do some serious beer tasting of over 300 craft beers from around the world. This year, Grovetoberfest will move slightly South to Miami Marine Stadium; a move geared towards allowing more people to experience Florida’s largest beer festival. In addition, it has upped the ante by bringing a beer connoisseur on board who has been hand-selecting some of the rarest beers available for this year’s festival.

“We’re overflowing with good news. In our new home, Grovetoberfest will continue to offer local favorites and mainstream craft beers, but with a renewed focus on elite craft beers. We are working directly with the brewers to secure and reserve batches of incredibly esoteric and unique brews,” says Tony Albelo, organizer and chief sample taster for Grovetoberfest. This year, Blackberry Farms Brewery will be pouring in the VIP area. Civil Society Brewing will also be pouring at the event, making this the first time they’ve ever poured at a Miami-Dade beer fest. In addition, for the first time ever, Grovetoberfest will be pouring Prairie, Crooked Stave, To Øl, Mikkeller, and Slim Pickins. Aficionados will delight in sampling beers in the Sunshine State-of-Mind, a collection of over 40 Florida breweries including Wynwood Brewing Company, J. Wakefield Brewing, MIA Brewing, Funky Buddha, Saltwater, Banging Banjos, Due South and Biscayne Brewing, to name a few.

The new location allows for more room and easier parking. Other aspects of the festival include the VIP Lounge, which will be hosted by Chef M from Latin House Grill. In addition, it will offer certain perks not available to the general ticket holder such as specialty brews, covered seating area and air-conditioned bathrooms. The Homebrew Pavilion will showcase special brews made by passionate beer drinkers; the Food Row will offer food for purchase and the Kitchen Lab will feature beer/food pairing demonstrations by local chefs such as Ryan Martin from 180° at the DRB, and Zeke Man from 305 Brews. As usual, a Live Music Stage will feature dance-inducing music throughout the entire day.

Wynwood Art Walk has become one of the most iconic events in Miami, and SWARM, the creator of its epicenter along NW 23rd Street and 5th Avenue, is now poised to serve as an advocate for the Miami music scene by showcasing local talent. “We’re committed to bringing live music to Wynwood Art Walk, and much like our passion for all things local, we intend to give Miami musicians a platform to promote their music,” said Tony Albelo, partner of SWARM.

Miami City Ballet is celebrating National Dance Day on Saturday, July 30, with a dance party in Collins Park followed by an Open House across the street at MCB Studios to showcase MCB School programs.

Free and open to the public, the event is part of an annual celebration launched in 2010 by the Dizzy Feet Foundation and made popular by the hit TV show, “So You Think You Can Dance.” The tradition has since been carried out in Los Angeles and Washington D.C., so MCB is excited to lead the charge in inviting the community to its first-ever celebration in Miami Beach. The event will raise support for MCB and Dizzy Feet’s shared mission to encourage Americans to embrace dance as a fun and positive way to maintain good health and fight obesity.
