Burlock Coast
1 North Fort Lauderdale Beach Boulevard,
Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33304

Cost: $75 per person

Chef Gavin Pera has drawn accolades for his work as chef de cuisine of Burlock Coast at The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale. Chef Fabien Gnemmi is the hotel’s secret weapon in the kitchen; the machine behind the bustling property’s daily food & beverage and massive banquet and special event operations. The two are a culinary dream team and close collaborators but on Thursday, July 27 the duo will go toque-to-toque in a special one-night-only Chef Battle.

Open to the public, the dinner will task the chefs to create three dishes each – appetizer, entrée and dessert – for a six course dinner that cannot be beat, so to speak. Diners will try each course and vote for their favorite with the winning chef taking two out of three rounds. To add a little drama, the dining room will be turned into a close captioned “kitchen stadium” with large TVs brought in for diners to watch things heat up in the kitchen. The event, priced at $75 per person (excluding tax and gratuity) begins at 7 p.m. sharp with a complimentary cocktail reception, dinner at 7:30 p.m. A VIP seating option with paired wines will also be on offer for $95 per person. Joining the public in crowning the evening’s top toque will be three distinguished judges: YELP Broward Community Manager Blue Arauz; Miami New Times food scribe Nicole Danna and VENICE magazine publisher Carlos Suarez.

Seating is limited and reservations – strongly suggested – can be made with Stephanie Clyde via phone (954-302-6430) or email (stephanie/clyde@ritzcarlton.com).

What’s Your Elephant Art Exhibit 7/15/17

What’s Your Elephant Art Exhibit
Saturday, 07/15/2017 – 08/12/2017 07:00 pm – 11:00 pm
1310 Gallery, Sailboat Bend Artists Loft
1310 SW 2nd Court, 110,
Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33312

The Elephant in the Room is an idiom for an obvious truth that is either being ignored, or otherwise unaddressed. The purpose of this exhibit is to provide a safe place for issues and topics that are normally hidden from public view. Through visual and performance art, the artists participating in this event will share secrets and taboos, discussing openly to find solutions for individual and collective emancipation. Attendees are invited to enter the ‘Confessional’, an interactive safe space installation to share their ‘elephant’.

What’s Your Elephant will be hosted by 1310 Gallery residents Niki Lopez, visual artist, & designer, and Alana DaCosta, multidisciplinary artist.

Featured artists include: Niki Lopez, Alana DaCosta, AJ Grossman, Ana Rossi, Cheryl Brown, Macarena Zilveti, Mila Hajjar, Cesca Veo, Alex Tuzinsky, Chire Regans, Tabatha Mudra, Jose Silva, Yudelka Tavera, Zeal Harris, Artists for Black Lives Matter collective and SunServe Youth

Opening night performance featuring: Alana DaCosta, Profound Breath, We’re Weird, and Nephii Love, Bishop and Venus Rising Drum and Dance Troupe

Lopez and DaCosta will also host an interactive workshop called “What’s Your Elephant”, where participants can use creative arts in a safe space to reveal individual or societal “elephants”. “The obvious is oftentimes ignored and swept under the rug. Some people may chose to never face it,” says DaCosta, who also has a MS in Mental Health Counseling. “Yet, we all have creative energy and have the power of choice to free ourselves of whatever makes us uncomfortable. Through creative expression, many can learn to address the issue and share with others who most likely have their own elephant”.
“It’s about acknowledging it (the elephant), owning it, so that it doesn’t define you.” Says Lopez, an artist and activist with her own elephant that will be revealed at the exhibit.

As a part of this movement, Lopez & DaCosta ask that the public participate by submitting their unspoken truth AND use the hashtag #whatsyourelephant on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr and Instagram.

South Florida JAZZ, the area’s premier modern jazz organization, concludes its star-studded 25th Anniversary celebration season by presenting world-renowned bassist Christian McBride with his cryptically named trio Tip City. The performance will take place on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 8:00 p.m. in the Rose & Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center on the Nova Southeastern University campus, 3100 Ray Ferrero Jr Blvd, Davie 33314. Tickets are $40 ($10 for students under age 25 with valid I.D.) and can be purchased from Ticketmaster either online via southfloridajazz.org or by calling 954-462-0222.

Bassist Christian McBride is one of those bigger-than-life artists who just burst onto the music scene seemingly in full bloom. His father and great uncle, both well-known Philadelphia bassists, mentored him early. Half of a lifetime ago, by his 21st birthday, he was a remarkably mature player and rapidly becoming everyone’s favorite young acoustic bassist of the 1990s. Christian’s huge sound and prodigious technique, both with plucked and bowed solos, recall the legendary Ray Brown and particularly Paul Chambers. He actually started on electric bass when he was eight and took R&B gigs in high school, but by then he was getting more interested in jazz and playing the acoustic bass. Five Grammys later, he now plays both in a variety of settings.

Featuring: Christian McBride – bass, Emmet Cohen – piano, Mark Whitfield – guitar.

Funding for South Florida JAZZ is provided in part by grant from the Broward County Board of County Commissioners as recommended by the Broward Cultural Division

Offsite Performance Nearing 6/3/17

Artserve

Girls’ Club presents Offsite Performance: Nearing, an elaborate, multi-media performance from the Fort Lauderdale-based artist Jen Clay on Saturday, June 3, 2017, 6-9pm, at ArtServe, 1350 E Sunrise Blvd, in Fort Lauderdale.

First seating begins promptly at 6:30, the second at 7:30pm, with an interactive prologue and intermission.

Nearing is an immersive experience bringing together large scale puppets, performative sculpture, ambiguous creature-like costumes, stop motion animation and an extra-terrestrial soundscape created by Clay’s collaborator Elise Anderson.

Audiences of all ages are invited to witness the origins of seemingly friendly non-human beings with unknown intentions and a very visceral obsession with the audience, in this interactive performance.

Like much of Clay’s work, Nearing is inspired by the culture of mysterious creature sightings reported in rural communities, like that of West Virginia’s Moth Man and North Carolina’s Brown Mountain Lights. These mysterious phenomena have fed a subculture of paranormal believers, conspiracy theorists and generations of suspicious, imaginative people who doubt we are alone in our universe.

Although the event is appropriate for all ages and takes significant influence from children’s edu-tainment tropes like Sesame Street and Teletubbies, adult themes persist. Nearing references supernatural and fantastical occurrences, re-creating very human experiences of social anxiety, fear and existential doubt.

This event is free and open to the public. RSVP/registration required.

VIP tickets are available and include a copy of Jen Clay’s recently created artist book, published by Is Projects, which acts as a prologue to this performance and includes interactive elements, pop-open doors and pull-out tabs.

Whether you are a young professional just entering the workforce, or someone more seasoned and ready for retirement, we can all agree that bullying hurts and it has a lifetime effect on everyone involved! This is an opportunity for you to make a difference in the lives of teens by connecting with other professionals and networking for a good cause.

**Please Note**
You may donate to a team to help raise money even if you’re not able to attend by simply clicking “Donate” instead of “Join”. All donors will be prompted to create a free account, and even if you’re not attending it will ask for your shirt size. If we have any left over shirts you might receive a surprise in the mail.

Your donation will help cover the cost of housing, meals, t-shirts, and tuition for at-risk and low income students to attend PALS; a 7-day leadership conference for students who commit to being upstanders instead of bystanders when it comes to bullying and harassment. Whether students are looking to expand their leadership and social skills, learn peer mediation, enhance their public speaking and job interviewing ability, learn to write an impactful resume or to simply develop conflict resolution skills, PALS is here to help students obtain all of those skills in a safe space among a diverse group of their peers. More importantly, all students will practice showing empathy, tolerance, and respect for others.

South Florida Jazz, South Florida’s premier modern jazz organization is thrilled to present The Stanley Jordan Trio on Saturday April 8, 2017, 8:00 PM. This concert will take place at the Rose and Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center on the Nova Southeastern University campus, 3100 Ray Ferrero Jr Blvd in Davie. Tickets are $40 ($10 for students under 25 with valid I.D.) and can be purchased online from http://southfloridajazz.org or by calling 954.462.0222.

In a career that took flight in 1985 with immediate commercial and critical acclaim, guitar virtuoso Stanley Jordan has consistently displayed a chameleonic musical persona of openness, imagination and technical wizardry that sets him apart from every known guitarist. His music also is imbued with a combination of passion, sensitivity, humor, daring, and sheer brilliance. Whether bold reinventions of classical masterpieces or soulful explorations through pop-rock hits, to blazing straight-ahead jazz forays and ultramodern improvisational works—solo or with a group—Jordan can always be counted on to take listeners on breathless journeys into the unexpected – sometimes playing the piano simultaneously!

In the mid-1980s, Stanley hit the scene much heralded because of his extraordinary, even revolutionary technique and virtuosity. Curiously, he remains under-recorded as a leader. Early acclaim and a nagging desire to do more than tour has led this shy and retiring artist to eschew the limelight. While many of his dates are solo performances, he will appear for South Florida JAZZ with an exciting trio with the extraordinary bassist Charnett Moffett and drummer Kenwood Dennard, both long-term associates.

Funding for this organization is provided in part by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners as recommended by the Broward Cultural Council.

Girls’ Club presents Offsite Performance by Christina Pettersson:: Along the Shadow of the River, a multi-disciplinary public performance set along the banks of the historic New River in downtown Fort Lauderdale.

Taking place on the riverside grounds of the Fort Lauderdale Historical Society at 219 SW 2nd Ave, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301, Along the Shadow of the River takes inspiration from the historic river and the women whose histories are forever linked to its waters.

Audience members are invited to tour the grounds, encountering different performers as they make their way east across the railroad tracks in this progressive performance and walking tour. The performance will begin promptly at sundown.

Created by Christina Pettersson, the performance brings together local musicians, dancers, opera singers and artists to embody historic female figures who have made integral contributions to the founding and history of Fort Lauderdale.

Part homage, part history lesson, these interpretive, performative biographies tell the story of Fort Lauderdale’s forgotten heroines including: Frankee Lewis, Fort Lauderdale’s first permanent non-native resident circa 1824; Mary Brickell, the largest single property owner in the central part of Fort Lauderdale and prominent real estate developer/manager circa 1908-1922; Ivy Stranahan, Fort Lauderdale’s first school teacher, an active social activist, suffragette and proponent of Seminole Indian rights who lived in Fort Lauderdale from the age of 18 in 1899, to her death in 1971; and more.

Performers include Shanna Nolan Gundry, a Mezzo-Soprano opera singer; Shira Abergel, a professional multi-instrument musician, singer and actress; Tara Long, Miami-based experimental performance artist and musician under the alias POORgrrrl; Nikki Rollason, dancer and performance artist; Octavia Yearwood, an arts educator, choreographer and founder of Team Ohhh; Jessica Farr, actress, playwright and stand-up comedian; and Mae Silver, historian and author of numerous books including ‘Too Hot To Hide: Remarkable Women of Fort Lauderdale.’

The 117 Girls’ Club building opened in the fall of 2007, renovated for use as an unpredictable art space by local architect and designer Margi Nothard of Glavovic Studio. Founded by Francie Bishop Good and David Horvitz, and led by director Michelle Weinberg, Girls’ Club opened as the only private collection open to the public with a focus on contemporary art by women, in the world.

Throughout its 10-year history, the building has stood as a convergence point and catalyst for the growing contemporary art developments in the Fort Lauderdale and Broward County area. Its galleries have witnessed 10 major exhibitions of contemporary art, curated by emerging and mid career artists and curators. The building has hosted film screenings, artist talks, stitch and bitches, professional development workshops, experimental theatre, lectures, musical performances, parties, dinners, outreach workshops and countless student and community tours. Its walls have supported students artists, emerging artists, critically acclaimed artists, international rock star artists, both female and male. It’s doors have welcomed women, men, dogs, cats, lizards, students, children, carebears, and everything in between in an effort to fulfill its mission to educate the public, act as a resource and the nurture of the careers of contemporary female artists.

Join us as we cheers to its last exhibit and hear about the exciting next chapter in store for Girls’ Club!

South Florida JAZZ, the area’s premier modern jazz organization, continues its 25th Anniversary celebration by presenting world-renowned vibraphonist Gary Burton

in a career farewell concert with long-term collaborator, pianist Makoto Ozone. The performance will take place on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 8:00 p.m. in the Rose

& Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center on the Nova Southeastern University campus, 3100 Ray Ferrero Jr Blvd, Davie 33314. Tickets are $40 ($10 for students under

age 25 with valid I.D.) and can be purchased from Ticketmaster either online via http://www.southfloridajazz.org or by calling 954-462-0222.

Gary Burton is the most important vibraphonist of the modern era. Largely self-taught, he is a major innovator on his instrument because of his conception and

mastery of an extraordinary and four-mallet technique that continues to elude most practitioners. His accomplishments resulted in seven Grammy Awards. He has

been voted Best Vibraphonist innumerably in the important trade polls. In 2016, he was awarded a richly-deserved Fellowship from the National Endowment for the

Arts as a Jazz Master, an honor given only to luminaries who have advanced the art form.

Makoto Ozone (o-zo-nee) was born into a musical family in Kobe, Japan and began to play organ at age two. At twelve, inspired by Oscar Peterson, he switched to

piano. While classically trained, he strove to become a jazz pianist and met Gary Burton when he came to Berklee School of Music in Boston to study in 1980. He

played a classical solo concert in Carnegie Hall in 1983, the same year that he joined Gary’s jazz band. He stayed in the US until 1989, returning to Japan where he

continued performing works from the classical repertoire with major orchestras to rave reviews – a very rare acceptance of a jazz musician.

In 2013, in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of their debut together, Makoto toured with Gary in Japan for a month. They have now collaborated memorably

for over 33 years. This performance for South Florida JAZZ represents the conclusion, as Gary Burton retires from the profession with a brief tour with his friend Makoto.

North Beach Village Design is proud to host “GREEN?,” the latest exhibition by Italian artist Marcella Novotny. Her paintings show people eating healthy foods; however, her works are actually made of many toxic materials that surround us. By using saturated bright colors in her work, Novotny creates an intense and chromatic shock for viewers. With “GREEN?,” Novotny aims to offer spectators a series of abstract works that show the deep research for light. This event is open to the public, and we invite everyone to join us for an art-filled evening. A complimentary glass of wine will be served to attendees.

Lop-Off Sessions are a series of one-day, site-specific performances organized by Maitejosune Urrechaga & Tony Kapel of Pocket of Lollipops. The rock duo will present an all female line-up for the event, their first Lop-Off Session in Broward County.

The all female line up of local bands and musicians will record one song each on location at the Pink Noise: Flexing the Frequency exhibition in the galleries of Girls’ Club. These songs will then be made available as a compilation. Each band will have up to 30 minutes to knock out the song. The public is invited to watch on as an audience, respectful of the sound recordings taking place.

The objective of these Lop-Off Sessions is to show working musicians and the measures it takes capture a song.

Amid the backdrop of the exhibition Pink Noise: Flexing the Frequency, the audience is given a behind the scenes glimpse of the recording process – the set up, the tuning, the rehearsing, the capturing of a single musical work – a performance usually restricted to a trusted few.

“The audience will be watching what it takes for musicians to set-up, and capture a song. And also witness the stress, the anxiety or complete calm. Basically witnessing each musician’s approach to the task. So the acts are not really performing a show – just coming in and doing the track – some need the complete 30 minutes – some do 1st takes.”

– Tony Kapel

These sessions are then made available to audiences for sale on location and at partnering locations in a limited edition vinyl album set, as a CD set and digitally through Houndstooth Cottage., a recording/publishing house, and host of semi-private music and art events.

Featured Musicians:

Bows & Ties
Farina & Didi (Haochi)
Soety – Honey Henny Lime
Bison Twins
Tete-a-tete
Lori Garrote
Raffa Jo
Margaret McInroe

South Florida JAZZ presents the renowned New York Standards Quartet on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 7:45 PM at the Rose & Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center on the Nova Southeastern University campus, 3100 Ray Ferrero Jr Blvd, Davie 33314. Tickets are $40 ($10 for students under age 25 with valid I.D.) and can be purchased from Ticketmaster either online via southfloridajazz.org or by calling 954-462-0222.

Four jazz master musicians formed the New York Standards Quartet (NYSQ) in 2006. The concept was a straightforward one: play jazz standards in a unique way. After performing a lot of original music they thought it would be liberating to play music based on conventional, standard jazz tunes that they had grown up playing. The band has been touring and developing together for more than ten years, and it definitely shows in the empathetic cohesion of the players. Audiences respond well to familiar music that is fresh sounding, accessible, and hard-swinging.

ARTISTIC PERSONNEL
Tim Armacost – tenor & soprano saxophones, flute
David Berkman – piano
Ugonna Okegwo – acoustic bass
Gene Jackson – drums

Funding for South Florida JAZZ is provided in part by grant from the Broward County Board of County Commissioners as recommended by the Broward Cultural Division

Combine mastery of keyboard technique with decades of real world experience playing with no one less than the most celebrated artists of the last half century, and it’s no wonder Green has been hailed as perhaps the most exciting hard-swinging, hard-bop pianist to ever emerge from Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers. Since emerging under the tutelage of Betty Carter, Art Blakey, Freddie Hubbard and Ray Brown in the early 1980s, Benny Green has become a highly regarded pianist and bandleader. His efforts to expand upon the language of the classical jazz canon have placed him not only among the best interpreters but also among the vanguard of musicians keeping jazz’s evolution going.

Tickets are $40 ($10 for students with ID 90 min before the show) at southfloridajazz.org or call 954-462-0222. Parking is free above the 1st floor.

Girls’ Club presents an exhibition of recent collages from T.J. Ahearn, inspired by and created on vintage LP vinyl record albums from the 60s and 70s, in the Annex Space. Gallery hours are by appointment only during August 2016.

The music spanning the 60s and 70s represents a dynamic shift in the cultural strata of western civilization and beyond. Rock ‘n Roll the prevailing musical genre signifying that era remains embedded in our contemporary society — to the point of banality as it is often co-opted for TV advertising and mass media.

The evocative, imaginary scenes in TJ Ahearn’s works are ignited by the spark of the music’s intent and flavor– reflections on concepts of Utopianism, sexual liberation, spirituality, ecology, war resistance and other themes that continue to be relevant today.

A limited edition series of prints from Ahearn’s unique collages, published by Girls’ Club will be available for sale in conjunction with the exhibition.

Pre-order information available soon!

During the opening reception, on Saturday, July 30th, at 7pm, South Florida-based band Pocket of Lollipops will perform inside the gallery to kick off the exhibition.

Made of wife and husband team of Maitejosune Urrechaga and Tony Kapel, Pocket of Lollipops will swirl together a mind melding indie rock frenzy leaving the listener with a dizzying, organic sound and taking the audience to another dimension, far off into the past or future.

“The duo has been instrumental in merging South Florida’s stuffy art scene with a spunkier, all-fun, no-gloom attitude. The aural results are an art-punk, danceable, no wave sound that glistens in the diabetic saccharine glory of power-pop.”

-Abel Folgar, New Times Broward Palm Beach

Editions of the band’s LP album Broken Balloon, with cover art by TJ Ahearn, will be available for sale.

Looking for a new home this summer? We Florida Financial wants to help consumers save time and money with its free Home Buyers Summer Seminar Series. Gain the knowledge and confidence to make the best home buying decisions for you and your family by attending one of the free seminars taking place on June 11 in Lauderdale Lakes, June 21 at the Biscayne branch, June 25 in Lauderhill and July 20 at the North Miami branch.

According to statistics compiled by the website mymovingreviews.com, summer is a popular time to move because of preferable weather. It’s a great time for families to explore neighborhoods and make friends before the school year starts. Plus, many sellers who haven’t sold homes put on the market in spring are willing to sell for less during the summer. Over half of all moves (61.5%) in 2015 were made during the months of May through September with the busiest day in the moving industry being July 31. The state of Florida also ranked as number two in the nation for the highest number of local moves.

“Now is the time to buy before interest rates rise and We Florida Financial credit union services wants to help consumers save time and money for this important life purchase,” said Lloyd Gill, president and CEO of We Florida Financial. “We Florida Financial has mortgage programs for the modern buyer with low rates, affordable monthly payments and no Florida intangible tax. We encourage South Florida residents to attend one of our free Home Buyers Summer Seminars to get the most out of their home-buying experience.”

Proxy Selves: a fast-paced, prompt-driven writing workshop with Girls’ Club writer in residence Jan Becker

$20 registration

“Do I contradict myself? Very well, then I contradict myself, I am large, I contain multitudes.”
– Walt Whitman, “Song of Myself”

Proxy Selves is a poetry/creative nonfiction workshop that will explore and give voice to the multitudes of self contained within each writer.
Participants will explore how relationships, politics, setting, time and other factors alter others’ perception of us as individuals, and how projection of self is altered under different circumstances. Participants can expect to produce a series of short poetry/creative nonfiction pieces, gain inspiration for further writing after the workshop concludes, and become more comfortable with developing a drafting process.

Writers of any level are welcome. This generative workshop is designed to silence the inner critic that plagues most writers, and allow access to an uninhibited writing voice–or as Whitman might phrase it, sound a “barbaric yawp over the roofs of the world.”

Chosen from the current exhibition Self-Proliferation, the 4 presenting artists work with diverse media, employing various printing and proliferation techniques to carry their message. Artists will share their inspirations, career paths and ah hah! moments with the public.

At each event, Girls’ Club will release a limited edition multiple for sale, under $100. This is an opportunity for budding art collectors to own one copy of a signed, limited edition work, published by Girls’ Club.

Proxy Selves: a fast-paced, prompt-driven writing workshop with Girls’ Club writer in residence Jan Becker

Jan Becker, local writer and poet, has been selected as Girls’ Club 2015/2016 writer-in-residence. Becker will work collaboratively with Girls’ Club to present various public programs and contribute writings in conjunction with the exhibition Self-Proliferation, curated by Micaela Giovannotti.

Jan Becker was born in a small coal-mining town in Northeastern Pennsylvania, and subsequently grew up in a Marine Corps family on military bases all over the United States. She completed her BA in English, Creative Writing and Rhetoric with a concentration in Global Cultures at SUNY Binghamton, where she was awarded the Andrew Bergman Prize in Creative Writing, and the Alfred Bendixen Award for her creative honors thesis.

Cost: $40

On April 9 at 8 PM, South Florida Jazz presents “Celebrating Great Women in Music,” starring Lynne Arriale, Carla Cook, and Grace Kelly, at the Rose and Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center, 3100 Ray Ferrero Jr. Boulevard in Dania, FL. Tickets are $40 ($10 for students with ID) at southfloridajazz.org or (954) 462-0222.

Nina Simone, Abbey Lincoln and Joni Mitchell have established themselves as iconic performers and composers. The depth and authenticity of their music has profoundly influenced generations of musicians and touched audiences worldwide.

Pianist Lynne Arriale, vocalist Carla Cook and alto saxophonist/vocalist Grace Kelly have been moved and influenced by the strength and power of these legends. They celebrate these great women of jazz by sharing their unique reinterpretations of popular classics with passion, soul and sensitivity in a magical evening of empathetic collaboration. Joining them are bassist Evan Gregor and drummer Jordan Perlson.

These artists are highly innovative and original leaders. Lynne is an established star with worldwide status; she was the first prize winner of the 1993 International Great American Jazz Piano Competition, and soon launched her touring and recording career. “Lynne Arriale’s music lies at the synaptic intersection where brain meets heart, where body meets soul. As a result, there’s a directness, a purity, an unalloyed honesty that makes us listen and therefore “see” anew. She is one of jazzdom’s most intensely unique voices.” – JazzTimes

Carla Cook, from “Motown,” Detroit, is daring. She is a jazz singer/songwriter who sings standards beautifully — but she doesn’t stop there. Cook is willing to put a jazz spin on songs not written by traditional jazz composers. Songs that, until you hear her sing them, you’d never imagine could be interpreted as jazz. That willingness to simply sing what she loves is what gives Cook her signature style. “Carla Cook…a mad-loose straight ahead jazz diva with a gospel soul, big band heart, classical cool and improvisational hot …. and what a beautiful voice … a warm amber-hued contralto.” – JazzTimes

Bostonian Grace Kelly is a vivacious saxophone prodigy and composer with incredible polish for her tender age (23). She’s not looking to be like anyone else. “Got my own thing,” she sings over an urban, trance-like groove. Although the singer and saxophone player has been acclaimed by critics and audiences alike as a jazz musician, her work shows an artist interested only in playing what she loves, labels be damned. “Grace Kelly plays with intelligence, wit and feeling. She has a great amount of natural ability and the ability to adapt… the hallmark of a first-class jazz musician.” – Wynton Marsalis

Join Lynne, Carla and Grace for an evening of joyful interaction and musical spontaneity featuring modern jazz classics, reinvented popular favorites, and memorable original compositions.

Funding for South Florida JAZZ is provided in part by a grant from the Broward County Board of County Commissioners as recommended by the Broward Cultural Division

BrightStar Credit Union is participating in the 21st annual fundraiser, Clueless on Las Olas, to benefit Partners in Education (PIE). Inspired by the popular board game “Clue,” the mystery themed event will take place on Thursday, March 10th, from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Proceeds from Clueless on Las Olas will benefit PIE programs that assist public schools and students in Broward County by developing partnerships with local businesses and community organizations.

Clueless on Las Olas is an interactive murder mystery, street party where participants solve a fictitious case after discovering seven planted clues along Fort Lauderdale’s Las Olas Boulevard. This year’s theme is “Lotto Demise.”

Following check-in at Stranahan House and Laura Ward Park, participants will enter a street party where they will be given the mystery plot synopsis and meet the “suspects” before embarking on a search for additional clues along Las Olas Blvd. There are 17 clue sites, including American Social, Kilwins, Royal Pig Pub and Kitchen, and Dazzles Boutique. At 8:30 p.m., the final clue will be read and murder suspect accusations cast.

Registration is $35 per person in advance or $40 at the event. Tickets can be purchased online at www.browardpartners.com. Participants can play individually or get a team together. For every three advance ticket purchases, participants get one free ticket. Each person will receive a gift bag and event t-shirt. An appetizer and dessert buffet as well as beverages will be provided. Event sponsors include BrightStar Credit Union, Aetna, The Miami Herald and 102.7 the Beach Radio. The prize for the first place contestant is two round-trip tickets on Southwest Airlines. For more information, call 954-288-7201.
