bo.lee gallery presents artist Andrew McIntosh at Pulse art fair Miami
1-4th December 2016

Booth S-107
Indian Beach Park
4601 Collins Av.
Miami Beach

London based bo.lee brings the eerie Scottish Highlands to sunny Miami Beach in a beautiful pairing which reflects McIntosh’s new body of work ‘Where We Belong’.
Born in Scotland in 1979, for his latest body of works, Where We Belong (2016), Andrew McIntosh has returned to the landscape that surrounds his family home which he got to know intimately while growing up. In his trademark painterly realist style and with a subdued, earthy palette, the artist depicts beautifully atmospheric locations from marshy moorlands to misty woodlands and ice-capped hills.

But these are not simply haunting Highland landscapes, however, as clearly present within each scene is an old caravan, some of which might have been manufactured half a century ago or more. Situated in picturesque spots but seemingly abandoned and without a human in sight, these somewhat dishevelled caravans appear both strangely incongruous yet somehow completely at home. Glowing with the warmth of the setting sun, the caravans become transformed into mysterious portals to other places and other times, suggesting that metaphysics, science-fiction or the paranormal might not be far away.

Fans of Westerns might spot that several of the landscapes depicted inside the caravans are scenes from classic movies of this genre. It is as if McIntosh is drawing both a comparison and a contrast between the picturesque beauty of the landscape in which he grew up and that of the American Midwest. Both are places that inspire the romantic imaginary: dreams of travel and escape, of leading different kinds of lives.

Indeed, this new body of work might be read as a metaphor for faded or failed dreams of adventure, of journeying to places far from home, or back in time to places we once knew. While they are wistful, eerie and melancholic paintings, with their golden sunset scenes they are not devoid of hope, and maybe, just maybe, these caravans have not yet reached their final destinations.

PULSE Miami Beach returns to its oceanfront home at Indian Beach Park from Thursday,
December 1 through Sunday, December 4, 2016. The twelfth edition of PULSE in Miami will welcome a
diverse community of established and emerging galleries across five continents presenting the latest cuttingedge
artwork and current practices. Opening with its signature Private Preview Brunch on Thursday,
December 1 from 10am-1pm, PULSE looks forward to introducing its vibrant audience of art collectors and
enthusiasts to a dynamic overview of today’s contemporary art market.

Following last year’s successful expansion, PULSE will return with over 70 galleries and 200 artists
welcoming an array of national and international exhibitors. With first time exhibitors making up 25% of the
fair’s roster, PULSE will showcase new works from galleries from Colombia, Spain, China and Japan among
others. Housed within two spacious pavilions, PULSE’s overall range and diversity provides an immersive
experience for its guests. PULSE’s North Tent will highlight established galleries presenting multi-artist
booths while the South Tent spotlights IMPULSE, solo exhibitions whose artists are eligible for the PULSE
PRIZE, and CONVERSATIONS, dual-artist shows allowing galleries to explore conceptual dialogues
between the artists they represent.

This year, PULSE will debut its first PROJECTS Special Commission featuring digital artist, Anne Spalter.
The special commission, tied to PROJECTS programming, provides funding for an artist invited to showcase
their work at PULSE. Housed in the fair’s airy entry-way, Spalter’s Miami Marbles will invite visitors to explore
a new form of art ‘the Modern Landscape.’ Using photographs and video replicas of last year’s Miami Art
Week, Spalter digitally alters and distills images of the city’s atmosphere, architecture and foliage to create
contemporary landscapes. By abstracting Miami’s topography, Spalter encapsulates the vibrancy of the city
within each of her expansive spheres. An augmented reality component will also allow guests to engage with
the orbs through an interactive interface. Viewers will be able to explore kaleidoscopic moving videos on the
spheres and discover virtual orbs around the fair through the custom Marbles app.

“With the continuing growth of international representation amongst our exhibitors and the debut of Anne
Spalter’s special commission, we look forward to championing an experience that creates an opportunity for
deeper engagement and an even more rewarding experience for our exhibitors and visitors,” says Director,
Helen Toomer.

Premier line-up of galleries at Art Basel’s 15th edition in Miami Beach

Art Basel today announced the gallery list for its 2016 show in Miami Beach, comprising 269 leading international galleries, drawn from 29 countries across North and South America, Europe, Asia and Africa. Exhibitors will present works of art – from historically significant projects and film, to painting, photography and large-scale sculpture – by Modern and contemporary artists. With a reapplication rate of 98% for the Galleries sector and in addition to a strong selection of returning exhibitors, the show features 21 galleries who are completely new to the Miami Beach edition, including 12 first-time entrants to the Galleries sector. The fair, whose Lead Partner is UBS, takes place at the Miami Beach Convention Center from December 1 – 4, 2016.

Attracting leading collectors, curators, museum directors and critics from across the globe, Art Basel in Miami Beach is the premier art show of the Americas, with half of the galleries having exhibition spaces in the region. The geographically diverse list of participants spans 29 countries around the world, including Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Cuba, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Norway, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States.

2016 marks the fifteenth edition of the Miami Beach show, which has expanded over the years to include dedicated sections for film, outdoor sculpture, works in edition and curated shows of historical significance. The show has always offered both exploration – with new works created by emerging artists – and a continuity of a high quality international roster. Over 85 galleries exhibiting this year also took part in the very first edition in Miami Beach in 2002.

Joining an extensive roster of returning galleries will be first-time participants from North and South America, including from Los Angeles: The Box, Marc Selwyn Fine Art and Various Small Fires; from New York: Callicoon Fine Arts, Clearing, Di Donna, Thomas Erben Gallery, JTT and Off Vendome; from Mexico City: House of Gaga and joségarcía ,mx; and from Curitiba in Brazil: Simões de Assis Galeria de Arte.

New participants from Europe include Christian Andersen, Galleria d’Arte Maggiore G.A.M., Galerie Greta Meert, Galerie Maria Bernheim, High Art and Vigo Gallery. Reflecting Art Basel’s global reach, first time exhibitors from Asia will include Edouard Malingue Gallery, Leo Xu Projects and Nanzuka. For the full gallery list, please visit artbasel.com/miami-beach/exhibitors.

Comprising 193 of the world’s leading galleries, the Galleries sector presents the highest quality of painting, sculpture, drawing, installation, photography and video works. Highly competitive, the sector is always a highlight, leading 98% of last year’s exhibitors to reapply. In addition to many long time exhibitors, Galerie Nagel Draxler returns for this edition following a five-year hiatus. After previously participating in the show’s proposal based sectors, eight exhibitors will join the Galleries sector for the first time, including: Altman Siegel, Bergamin & Gomide, Cherry and Martin, GALLERYSKE, Galerija Gregor Podnar, Labor, Menconi + Schoelkopf and Pilar Corrias. For the full gallery list, please visit artbasel.com/miami-beach/galleries.

The Miami Beach Convention Center, Art Basel’s home since the Miami Beach edition launched in 2001, is currently undergoing renovation, to be completed in 2018. Carefully planned by city officials around the Art Basel shows, the construction will result in improved exhibition halls and state of the art facilities for exhibitors and visitors. During the renovation, Art Basel will continue to take place throughout the same four exhibition halls as in past years. For more information on the project, please visit mbccfuture.com.

November 2016/ Design Miami/ returns to Miami Beach across from Art Basel for its twelfth edition as the meeting point of the design world’s elite with a distinctly new set of projects, partnerships and programming.

Thirty-one of the world’s leading design galleries will exhibit, with four first time exhibitors: Chamber of New York City, The Future Perfect of New York City and San Francisco, Mercado Moderno of Rio de Janeiro and Giovanni Beltran of Miami.

This edition reveals several pronounced highlights among the fair’s gallery program – Mexican emerging and established talent will appear, with new works by Abel Zavala at ammann//gallery, Tanya Aguiñiga at Volume Gallery, and Gloria Cortina at Cristina Grajales Gallery. Unexpected materials will also be found throughout the fair, signaling a distinct inclination to the found and to the salvaged this year; ranging from new work by Misha Kahn at Friedman Benda; Hugo França’s works in reclaimed indigenous woods at Mercado Moderno; and Niek Pulles at Chamber Gallery presents everything from classical door frames to objects and products all found on the streets of his native Amsterdam. Visitors can also expect to see monumental solo exhibitions ranging from seminal designer Maria Pergay at Jousse Entreprise to renowned artist Giorgio Vigna at Elisabetta Cipriani.

The Design Curio program reveals six of the latest viewpoints from today’s innovators and experimental designers and artists. This year’s program includes Delorenzo Gallery presenting Samuel and Dominic Amoia; Michael Jon & Alan presenting Charles Hollis Jones; Patricia Findlay presenting NO SEX in Miami by Atelier Biagetti; Plusdesign Gallery presents Streetscapes; Cora Sheibani presents Colour & Contradiction; and Virgil Abloh presents a special commission for the fair.

Design Visionary/
New York based SHoP Architects is this year’s recipient of the Panerai Design Miami/ Visionary Award, and has produced Design Miami’s largest commission to date. It will also be the first time that an award recipient’s work will be permanently installed in the Miami Design District following the fair. SHoP’s design, Flotsam & Jetsam, uses monumental 3D printed structural elements to create an environment that evokes the past romance and innovative future of Miami.

Design Collaborations/
At Design Miami/ 2016, new and returning design-led brands bring a host of inspired special projects to the Design Collaborations program. Audi presents The extra hour by LEGO, inspired by the Audi RS 7 piloted driving concept. “The extra hour,” the 25th, is a metaphor for a new kind of freedom and control over time.

Dean & DeLuca, the legendary New York gourmet market and leading international purveyor of fine food, is partnering with one of the world’s most innovative architects, Ole Scheeren, to create a prototype of his design for a unique food retail concept titled Stage. Stage presents a glowing, pristine object in polished stainless steel with the undulating topography of a bespoke, high tech display system, created for the powerful celebration of the preparation and presentation of food.

FENDI returns to Design Miami/ presenting a refined design collaboration, and Maison Perriet-Jouët marks its fifth year as a partner of Design Miami/ with a commission by American artist Andrew Kudless inspired by nature and the Maison’s Art Nouveau heritage. Louis Vuitton makes its debut at the fair with two new pieces for its Objets Nomades collection.

Airbnb will collaborate with Pedro&Juana, an emerging Mexico City-based design studio founded by Ana Paula Ruiz Galindo and Mecky Reuss. At Design Miami/ 2016, Airbnb and Pedro&Juana will present Sobremesa, a lively exploration of shared space. “Sobremesa” is the Mexican tradition of sharing time and space lingering around the table after a meal in casual conversation.

Fair newcomer, Compac, the established Spanish luxury composite surface manufacturer debuts with a site-specific installation by Paris based artist and designer Arik Levy.

Design Satellites/
For 2016, Design Miami/ welcomes various designers, institutions and organizations to create programming with strong curatorial, innovative and educational perspectives. Each satellite program reflects a contemporary view onto what’s happening in the design world at large.

As part of the Design Satellites, this year’s Collectors Lounge will be designed by award-winning Istanbul-based Tabanlıoğlu Architects. Established in 1990, Tabanlıoğlu is known for cultural projects such as the Istanbul Modern and Beyazit State Library.

Iconic illustrations from the archives of the late American illustrator, John Alcorn, serve as inspiration for this year’s fair identity as well as a limited edition mini-capsule collection in collaboration with Maison Kitsuné. The collection will be available at Design Miami/ and The Webster as well as online at Maison Kitsuné and at Kitsuné stores in Hong Kong, Paris, Tokyo and New York City.

CNN Style joins Design Miami/ as the official news outlet for the 2016 edition of the fair. The platform will have an on-site newsroom and broadcast live daily. National real estate brokerage Douglas Elliman will present this year’s Design Talks program in a new theater space designed by architects from real estate development firm, DDG, supported by the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University.

Design Miami/ partners with the United Nations on the launch of Building Legacy: Designing for Sustainability. The new platform aims to build momentum and a new movement for green infrastructure – one that will be designed and constructed in a manner that protects people and the planet for future generations. The platform will emphasize building and producing for people’s sustainable futures and will bring together designers, architects, developers and producers to promote concrete solutions. Working to support the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Building Legacy is a platform for the infrastructure, architecture and design communities. The program kicks off with the Building Legacy Opening Night Preview, by invitation only, and features four Building Legacy Talks at the fair.

Fridge Art Fair Miami 11/27/16 – 12/4/16

Fridge Art Fair Miami
fridgeartfair_fridge_ericginsburg-1Nov 27 to Dec 4, 2016, open 24 hours
Betsy Hotel Underground Gallery
1440 Ocean Drive
Miami Beach, FL 33139
Website

Four years ago NY-based artist Eric Ginsburg, known for expressionism focused on animals, had an idea to create an art fair during New York’s Frieze week that was different from the others. His goal was to create an intimate space for art and art lovers. When asked if he was planning on putting on a Fridge During Art Week in Miami right after the inaugural Fridge Art Fair ended, the answer was ‘Why not?’! Hence Fridge Art Fair during Art Basel was born!

Fridge is an art fair with a heart and passion. It’s been called everything from Raw to a boutique fair. In Eric’s words, ‘This year we’re proud to present artists whose work is authentic and personal, with messages for everyone.’ As in past fairs (with this being the 4th) the question posed to artists who participate is always “Can you fit it into the Fridge?”

Fridge Fair at Art Basel Miami Beach 2016 will take place at The Betsy Hotel with an amended title of “A Curated Mini Fridge”, indicating the (even) smaller space used to exhibit and celebrate. The Betsy Hotel (thebetsyhotel.com) is a four star-four diamond hotel in the luxury boutique space with a unique commitment to philanthropy, arts, culture, and education. Partnering with Fridge Fair aligns perfectly with The Betsy’s mission.

The public is cordially invited to The Betsy Hotel Presents “A Curated Mini Fridge” in the Underground Gallery, located behind the front desk, and down the stairs. The work is for sale and the gallery space is open 24/7. For more information contact artsandculture@thebetsyhotel. com or info@fridgeartfair.com

With her expertise in string instruments, Rachelle works magic to create amazing cover arrangements—acoustic or electric. In this role she played countless festivals including the Chicago Bluesfest and the Kerrville Texas Folk Festival, and opened for numerous acts like Johnny Winter, Coco Montoya and Koko Taylor. Miami is where she would make a life changing encounter with blues legend Buddy Guy. Since then, she has toured and performed with Super Chikan, Albert Castigila, Grady Champion, and Ray Drew.

Accompanying Rachelle are Jake Luger (keys), AJ Kelly (bass), and Raul Valdes (drums.)

Seed Food & Wine Festival, the nation’s premiere plant-based food event of its kind, gathers an unparalleled group of more than 60 plant-based chefs, athletes, authors and celebrities for the festival’s third year. Events on November 2nd-6th, 2016, include upscale dinners, fitness events and the nation’s first Plant-Based Burger Battleâ„¢. We have a lot more events and dinners this year including two dinners highlighting the best plant-based chefs in the country with “Best of The East” and “Best of The West” and we will also have the Seed Summit, a two day workshop and retreat for those in the plant-based world from bloggers to entrepreneurs.

SEED celebrates conscious, sustainable living and plant-based foods, fine wine, craft beer and spirits, lifestyle products and companies, all while raising health awareness, having fun and keeping a sense of humor in glorious sun-soaked Miami Beach and Wynwood. Over 9,000 culinary and conscious living enthusiasts will take part in the five days of the festival. As part of its mission to raise awareness of conscious living in a heady, fun-filled environment, SEED hosts the nation’s first Plant-Based Burger Battle™ presented by Whole Foods and Eden Roc Miami Beach Resort on Thursday, November 5th.

Chefs from restaurants around the country, including Sun Café (Los Angeles), Next Level Burger (Bend, OR), Arlo’s (Austin), jugofresh (Miami) della test kitchen (Miami) and Malibu Farms at Eden Roc (Miami Beach) will compete. Judges of the battle will include Lee Schrager, founder and executive director of South Beach Wine & Food Festival, four-time NBA champion John Salley and Sef Gonzalez, Miami-based “Burger Beast” blogger and founder of the soon-to-open Burger Museum.

This November Miami will welcome thousands of people passionate about conscious living and sustainability to Whole Foods’ Seed Food and Wine Festival and there will be a Vegan Burger Cook-Off on Thursday, November 3 to celebrate! Follow Your Heart, best known for its egg free mayo, Vegenaise and producing dairy free products since the 70s and Spork Foods, a collaboration between two vegan cooks to create wholesome vegan foods, will take the stage to battle for the title of “Best Vegan Burger”. Jenny Engel, half-Spook Foods and half-brand ambassador for Follow Your Heart, will be cooking up a plant-based burger to rival all other veggie creations! Stop by the festival and taste (and hopefully vote for) Follow Your Heart’s burger!

Stacy Conde, of Conde Contemporary, the gallery on Miracle Mile in Coral Gables with a concentration on narrative realism, photorealistic portraiture and surrealism, has partnered with the Shelborne Wyndham Grand South Beach for the launch of Technique Art Fair during Miami Art Week 2016.

The focus of Technique Art Fair is primarily representational art, by a body of international artists, represented by a host of world class galleries and dealers.

Technique Art Fair will celebrate the tangible, the relatable, and the emotional qualities which artists convey in works that require more technique than abstraction.

“…contemporary art is in many ways so entranced by the conceptual that the actual work and technique involved in creating art, have become secondary, tertiary even, to the obfuscated artist’s statement. Happily, I sense a seismic shift is underway”, says Stacy Conde.

She isn’t alone in predicting a return to representational work.

‘After MoMA PS1 opened its ‘Greater New York’ quinquennial last fall with a noticeable crop of talented young figurative artists, the website Artspace exulted: ‘The figure is back, baby!’ Four days later, during the Frieze Art Fair, in London, The New York Times trumpeted: ‘The Triumphant Return of Figurative Art.’ And in December, during Art Basel Miami Beach, the über-dealers Jeffrey Deitch and Larry Gagosian joined forces to put on a splashy, market-friendly show of figurative painting and sculpture. Titled ‘Unrealism,’ it featured both old hands such as Marlene Dumas and rising stars like Mira Dancy, known for reinvigorating the female nude with electric colors and a feminist gaze.’ – by Fan Zhong, April 15, 2016 for W Magazine

Technique Art Fair will support approximately 20 booths reserved for art dealers and galleries, as well as space for independent artists, specifically sculptors.

Art Basel in Miami Beach 2013 | ImpressionArt Basel stages the world’s premier art shows for Modern and contemporary works, sited in Basel, Miami Beach and Hong Kong. Defined by its host city and region, each show is unique, which is reflected in its participating galleries, artworks presented, and the content of parallel programming produced in collaboration with local institutions for each edition. In addition to ambitious stands featuring leading galleries from around the globe, each show’s singular exhibition sectors spotlight the latest developments in the visual arts, offering visitors new ideas and new inspiration.

Exhibitors will present works of art – from historically significant projects and film, to painting, photography and largescale sculpture – by Modern and contemporary artists.

The Edition sector presents 11 global leaders in the field of prints and editioned works. This year’s show will feature Alan Cristea Gallery, Carolina Nitsch, Crown Point Press, Gemini G.E.L. LLC, Pace Prints, Paragon, Polígrafa Obra Gràfica, Sabine Knust, STPI, Two Palms and ULAE.

Purchase your tickets today!

iPads For Soldiers mission is to purchase and donate iPads to US Soldiers serving in Afghanistan and those wounded stateside in military hospitals.

After Winnie Pritchett’s oldest son, Wesley, a WestPoint 08′ graduate who flies Kiowa Helicopters was deployed to Jalalabad, Afghanistan she learned that many of our deployed warriors serve in remote regions and have very limited access to TV, internet, cell phones, and no way to carry heavy books or computers in their 110-lb rucksacks. It became obvious to her that the typical care package of candy and magazines wasn’t enough. They needed something that allowed them to speak with their families back home, apps that could help them cope with strenuous situations, the ability to share photos with loved ones, watch movies, listen to music, read books, and even learn new skills and stay up to date on their training… what they really need is an iPad.
