Energetic splashes of funk, alternative, rock, R&B, and psychedelia color the music of Turkuaz. Balancing male-female harmonies, strutting guitars, wild horn arrangements, and interminable grooves, this spirit takes shape in the color donned by each respective member on stage nightly via larger-than-life performances. The Brooklyn-based nonet ignite an explosion of energy punctuated by neon hues, deft musicality, and show-stopping singalongs on their fifth full-length album, Life In The City.

“Turkuaz is made up of individuals, each their own shade of the color spectrum,” explains Dave. “Each person brings a signature style and embodies his or her own color. The respective auras come together to create our sound. The name itself implies that vibrancy, but it’s a different spin on turquoise. In the same way, we put a different spin on groove-oriented music by telling stories that you wouldn’t normally associate with funk.”

Photographs from Robin Schulz & Friends | Spinnin’ Hotel Miami 2019 on 3/28/19

Had the opportunity to roll through Robin Schulz & Friends at the Spinnin’ Hotel last night. We got to see Robin Schulz himself, as well as a few of his friends. Despite a little bit of rain, the party was popping. The staff at the hotel was awesome (something not always true at MMW parties).

I actually think that in more than a decade of covering Miami events, I have never been in the Nautilus hotel. It is a beautiful place, right between the Shore Club and the Shelborne. The Spinnin’ Hotel goes all weekend, so if you are looking for a good party in Miami Beach, I can definitely recommend it.

Reflections of WMC 2019

Winter Music Conference was March 25-28 at the Faena complex in Miami Beach.

So, I went to check out the new WMC this year. Gotta say I loved it. The new location is beautiful. The vibe was positive and buzzing. Maybe I’m biased because I love being around music biz people, but that is certainly how it felt to me.

It was definitely smaller than back in the heyday, but I heard quite a few people remark that they hoped it would grow in its new home. It does seem like there is still a desire for a professional industry gathering, which is good.

It was well organized. The signage was plentiful and clear, something I am a real stickler about. The staff was polite and helpful, something that is not always common.

They had a nice variety of workshop sessions, including a few that covered more uncomfortable, but necessary, topics, such as mental health issues. There were demos and tutorials, and the modest exhibit hall had quite a bit of gear that attendees could test out.

I think the one thing I missed the most was a talent showcase. I like those a lot. Also, the networking at the Tree of Life was too loosely organized. I would have like to have seen some better management of that. Making connections is really one of the most powerful aspects of a conference, and they let it slide by the wayside this year.

All in all, it seemed a positive and upbeat restart to the brand. I look forward to future iterations as they grow. Below are a few photos of the various spaces and the IDMA after-party.

Asana, Breath, & Sound experience

An integral part of all classical schools of yoga is their lineage, or a tracing of their roots from teacher to teacher to teacher. Yoga has been rebranded, restructured to fit modern society but the potency of these practices lie in whats taught in the texts.

Michelle Berlin will lead a workshop that gives a brief history and background of classical hatha yoga, incorporating the breathe work , kriya , & nada yoga. The class will include movement that will help cultivate a meditative mind. Nada yoga is the “union through sound ” the inner transformation using sound vibrations. Traditionally mantra was used but in the experience students will explore their inner world with mantra as well as singing bowls & the hand pan drum.

Rockers Movement Annual Miami Reggae Festival Returns with Their Vibe, Spirit and Celebration of Oneness — Make Way for the Positive Day as it shines during Winter Music Conference with “One Love” Celebration of Live Performances, Art and Food for Charity.

Miami Reggae Festival offers up an evening of peace, love & unity on Friday March 15th, under the stars at North Beach Bandshell, in Miami Beach, Florida. Patrons will come together to donate food to the less fortunate as part of the admission to the annual festival.

Miami, FL. January 15, 2019 Miami Reggae Festival fuses food, arts and reggae to raise awareness about extreme poverty during the Winter Music Conference for a powerful night of reverence, livity, peace and unity – expanding consciousness through music, food and charity.

Reggae music, a music now recognized as world heritage music by UNESCO (The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) brings together people from all walks of life in the spirit of “One Love” for an evening of sharing in culture and healing.

Miami Reggae Festival expresses the hopes and dreams of a world in which what people have in common is far greater than that which divides. Through the Festival, attendees live not by looking at each other but by looking together in the same direction. Miami Reggae Festival unifies Miami’s diverse community to aid Dade County residents living in poverty. Music has always had the power to unite and inspire humanitarianism. “The Miami Reggae Festival takes it to the top, offering the highest quality of performance, socio-political ambience and service to community available anywhere. Past festivals has featured the likes of: Stephen and Damian Marley, Bunny Wailer, Steel Pulse, Toots & The Maytals, Cultura Profética, Morgan Heritage, Midnite, Gondwana, Natiruts, Tiken Jah Fakoly and Luciano to name a few.

This year Miami Reggae Festival is headlined by the legendary Roots band from St. Croix Akae Beka (formerly Midnite), Akae Beka is the current manifestation of an evolving consciousness. As it is written in The Word, much like the archangel Michael who was responsible for the truths pertaining to the secrets of creation, so does lead singer Vaughn Benjamin today accept his role in a parallel time of rampant deception and broken taboos in the arenas of world leadership. Always rooted firmly in the teachings of His Imperial Majesty, Emperor Haile Selassie I, he says: “my personal evolution and reaffirmed purpose is manifested in this newly declared name from the Book of Enoch: Akae Beka, a sacred oath described therein, the Akae, the Beka, one and the same.”

Also performing from Jamaica; Jah9 and the Dub Treatment, deeply mystical, Jah9 has emerged from a chrysalis of poetry, dub and spirit to become a powerful femiNINE energy within a universal grassroots movement of consciousness. Inspired by the open spaces in the instrumental dub of 1970’s Jamaican roots music, Jah9 sings with a voice that belies the dimensions of her physical body, from a soul much older than its current vessel; “reminiscent of that darkly operatic wailer for truth & justice, Nina Simone.” Her philosophy–profoundly spiritual, and her style–Jazz on Dub.

Miami based Rhythm Flow, zen trance dub will pulse through the crowd, raising the vibration as Colombian Zurich Based DJ Nurstacris maintains the positive vibes throughout the night. Continuing the tradition of collecting non-perishable food items to distribute to those in need, the Miami Reggae Festival partners with Miami charity Hecho en Casa, Visual art displayed echoes sentiments felt throughout the human experience and plant-based and cruelty-free dishes complement the compassionate atmosphere.

Founder, Alfonso D’Niscio Brooks, says: ”Rockers Movement started with an obligation to do something good, and to affect people positively. The ways in which people can have a positive effect are limitless. By working together people transform communities, the environment and lives, being a part of the how and why.”

Miami Reggae Festival has also joined the rally to raise awareness about the positive impact and benefits of the gift cannabis, the plant for the mind, body and spirit. Music and herb just go together. In the spirit of unity Miami Reggae Festival producers found it necessary to be a part of this rally. In the challenging economic climate today, people know now more than ever the need for a positive vibration. Brother Bob Marley said: “Herb is the healing of the nation”. So come and join in a day of good vibes and let’s get together and feel alright, remember together WE ARE ROCKERS!

Miami Reggae Festival takes place on Friday, March 15, 2019 from 5-11pm at the North Beach Bandshell, 7275 Collins Ave. Miami Beach, FL 33141.

Tickets are $22 in advance plus two non-perishable food items for entry.

Miami Reggae Festival is family-friendly, children under 12 are free when accompanied by an adult.

Tickets are available online at: http://miamireggaefestival.com

FREE performances at the South Beach Jazz festival on Lincoln Road.
Sunday, January 6: The South Beach Jazz Festival presents four FREE sets of outstanding jazz at the Euclid Circle Stage between 12 and 6 PM. Leading off will be the Leesa Richards Jazz Project. Singer-Songwriter Leesa Richards is a storyteller, a soulful voice offering a soundtrack to the narratives of life. Her sound taps into the deep roots of R&B, the poetry of jazz and folk and the energy of rock. Richards has performed with a slate of powerhouse artists including Faith Hill, Whitney Houston, The Bee Gees, Gloria Estefan, Jon Secada, Julio Iglesias and Oleta Adams and has recorded with Barbra Streisand and Lenny Kravitz.

Brian Lynch’s “Spheres of Influence” follows at 1:30. Brian has been a member of Eddie Palmieri’s Afro-Caribbean Jazz group and has led the Latin Side of Miles project with trombonist Conrad Herwig. He has worked with Buena Vista Social Club alumnus Barbarito Torres, recorded with dance remixers Joe Claussell, Little Louie Vega and the Latin alternative group Yerba Buena. He arranged for Japanese pop star Mika Nakashima and producer Shinichi Osawa, has written string charts for Phil Woods, and has played with Maxwell, Prince, and Sheila E. Lynch and Eddie Palmieri shared the 2007 Grammy Award for Best Latin Jazz Album for “Simpático.”

At 3:15 Maria Rivas takes the stage, with special guest Nestor Torres. Known as one of the most versatile voices in Latin America and now North America, Maria Rivas skillfully combines American and Latin Jazz rhythms with lively yet sentimental music from around the world. She interprets her music in English, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese, and performs her own blend of traditional standards as well as music and lyrics she has composed herself… Latin Grammy Award winning Nestor Torres’ rhythmic and mellifluous flute sound remains apart in a class all by itself.

Closing the afternoon at 4:30 will be Jonathan Joseph’s Weather Underground, featuring Randy Bernsen and Special Guest Bobby Thomas, Jr. A veteran of jazz legend Josef Zawinul’s band The Zawinul Syndicate (successor to Weather Report), Jonathan subsequently worked with Latin jazz flutist Nestor Torres, and later joined contemporary jazz saxophonist David Sanborn. Jonathan has also performed with guitarist Pat Metheny in The Pat Metheny Group and maintained a rigorous touring and recording schedule working with Al Jarreau, Mike Stern, Bill Evans and performing on a Grammy winning album featuring Randy Brecker… Guitarist Randy Bernsen was a part of Blood, Sweat & Tears. He has recorded with numerous greats of fusion jazz, including Urszula Dudziak, Bob James, Herbie Hancock, Jaco Pastorius, Peter Erskine, Wayne Shorter, Michael Brecker, Marcus Miller, Steve Gadd, and Toots Thielemans… Special Guest Bobby Thomas, Jr, is an American jazz percussionist and hand drummer. He is known as an innovator in Be-bop and hand drumming, and has been nominated for two Grammy awards. Thomas is a veteran of Joe Zawinul and Wayne Shorter’s jazz fusion group Weather Report. After the group disbanded, Thomas resettled in Miami, and shortly afterward issued a solo CD of his own music In the Dreamtime on a local label. Besides Weather Report, Thomas played with The Zawinul Syndicate, Jaco Pastorius’ Word of Mouth band, and individual artists including Stan Getz, David Sanborn, Carlos Santana, Eddie Harris, Branford Marsalis, Herbie Mann, Ahmad Jamal and Roberto Perera.

First-Ever Event Presented By NATPE In Association With The NAACP And The NHFA

“Living the Dream: A Career in Content” Featuring Esai Morales, Gloria Calderon Kellett, Benjamin Lobato and more in Miami on January 21, 2019

LOS ANGELES, CA (October 9, 2018) – NATPE, the National Association of Television Program Executives, will present the first ever “Living the Dream: A Career in Content” event in partnership with the NAACP, (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) and the NHFA (National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts). The event will be held on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, January 21, 2019, one day before NATPE Miami 2019 commences, at the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach Florida.

The special event is designed to assist students, young professionals and others with a desire to enter the entertainment and media industries to learn more about how their dreams can become a reality. Both the NHFA and the NAACP are committed to raising awareness of diversity and inclusion in front and behind the camera as well as in all creative content with the overall mission to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate race-based discrimination. The organizations both have programs to inspire today’s youth and are committed to furthering awareness of multi-cultural content, diversity in media, and inspiring youth to follow their dreams.

World-renowned producer, director, actor and screenwriter Tyler Perry, will deliver the Keynote Address. Mr. Perry is an outstanding example of an individual who began his career with very little and through extraordinary talent and dedication has risen to the top of the industry in all areas of his multi-talented skills. Mr. Perry’s remarks will be followed by a panel headlined by CSI: Los Angeles’ Esai Morales, showrunner for USA’s “Queen of the South”, Benjamin Lobato and Netflix’ “One Day at a Time” showrunner Gloria Calderon Kellett, as well as other leading talent, executives, producers and writers who have imbedded storylines of diversity in their works. The final portion of the day’s presentations will be followed by a “Celebration of Creativity”, in which three pre-selected students will present story ideas dealing with diversity live onstage to a panel of industry-leading development executives. The three budding young filmmakers will be selected from the NAACP’s Hollywood Bureau film education program, which searches the country for talented young people in a variety of disciplines, and the NHFA’s whose PitchDC and PitchNY programs showcase authentic and original content ideas from NHFA student scholars, alumni and associates.

“This will be a very special day. A day to honor Martin Luther King Jr. and to inspire and empower young people as they begin a career in entertainment and media. We are honored to be presenting this event, headlined by Tyler Perry, and in association with two of the most respected organizations in America,” said JP Bommel, President and CEO, NATPE. “I know that those that will attend will be enriched with greater knowledge about the opportunities that lie before them.”

“Martin Luther King, like Cesar Chavez, spent their lives working to become the change they asked us all to become in our beloved country,” said Felix Sanchez, NHFA Chairman and Co-founder, “during these trying times, we look to storytellers to reveal the true narrative of our nation. We applaud NATPE for its leadership to advance these principles.”

“Joining forces with NATPE on Martin Luther King Jr’s birthday is right in line with the efforts we put forth to bring diversity to the forefront of everyone’s minds, especially in the world of entertainment,” said Derrick Johnson, President and CEO, NAACP. “We are honored to bring students together to hear from one of the greatest creative and business minds of our generation in Tyler Perry, and are excited to reveal the rest of the programming, which will feature top talent and executives from television, as we draw closer to the event.”

All proceeds from the event will go to the NATPE Educational Foundation to support educational initiatives. NATPE will invite students from Miami-area universities and high schools who are interested in getting into the entertainment/media business to the event. Industry execs attending NATPE will also be in attendance to network and engage with students. The NATPE Educational Foundation and its programs are focused on creating new professional opportunities for young professionals looking to pursue a career in Hollywood.

Calling all art and foodie enthusiasts! Naked Taco, located in the prime of South Beach, has teamed up with extremely talented artists and brilliant chefs to bring to life a Food Porn Art Exhibit. It took 3 award winning chefs teaming up with 3 phenomenal artists and 3 stunning influencers to create art pieces that showcase the sexual side of food. Food Porn Art Exhibit features @wallflowe12 Photography by Michael Leoncio, Jay “JBon” Bonadio JR @TheUnsigned, and Peterson Guerrier @Mr_Guerrier joined forces with award-winning Chefs Ralph Pagano, Brad Kilgore, and Max Santiago to create art pieces unlike any other.

Seen through the lens and photographed for the food-meets-art collaboration are influencers Bibiana Julian, TV personality, Astrid Bavaresco and one of Miami’s top females DJ’s, Michelle Pooch. Each photograph went through a process of artistic expressions created by Michael Leoncio @Wall- flowe12, Jay “JBon” Bonadio JR @TheUnsigned, and Peterson Guerrier. All three artists alongside the chefs brought a different and unique aspect to each art piece.

Michael Leoncio, known as @wallflowe12, is well known for tastefully depicting the nude human form with his images of masked nude models. Jbon, also known as “The Unsigned Artist”, has been shaking up the art scene for over a decade while keeping a low profile. Starting as a silk screen artist at the age of 15, he has evolved those skills into an original, luxurious “Neo- Mosaic” shattered glass concept of collections that he creates today. And last, but definitely not least Peterson Guerrier; known for creating artwork on canvases which are unique to properly showcase his style. Using a traditional fine art technique fused with an urban flare my work takes turns speaking jazz in a midnight setting, and bleeding emotions from an animalistic perspective.

Self-described as an “interpreter”, LA Kennedy is best known for her high contrast, monochromatic images of American pop culture icons. The self-taught artist draws inspiration from music legends while merging pop art influences from Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol. Her ability to hear colors while seeing sounds, allow her to translate audio into the visual, creating awe-inspiring textured images on the canvas. The unique juxtaposition of crisp imagery and rough texture, pull you in and dare you to reach out and touch the canvas.

WHO:
BACARDÍ and The Dean Collection present No Commission: Miami from December 6 – 7, 2018

WHAT:
The Dean Collection and BACARDÍ present No Commission: Miami 2018, a two-day, art and music fair taking place December 6 – 7, 2018, at Faena Forum in Miami Beach. No Commission was created by BACARDÍ and The Dean Collection to forge a direct link between art and art patronage. No Commission is designed specifically to support artists in different territories around the world.

No Commission: Miami 2018 is themed, “Take the Shot,” which will focus primarily on the medium of photography. As visual communication dominates, picture taking has eclipsed other expressive forms of content capture as an important tool of contemporary storytelling, heightened further by social media. No Commission 2018 examines photography in the digital age by highlighting practitioners who have emerged as compelling narrators of our time.

This year, No Commission invited photographers from around the country to submit their work for consideration. Of those who submitted, a select group of emerging artists and their work have been chosen to showcase at “Take the Shot” come December.

The injection of immersive music performances from collaborator BACARDÍ shakes up the traditional art fair, creating a unique cultural experience for visitors. While we can’t share names yet for the upcoming iteration, past performers have included Alicia Keys, DJ Khaled, A$AP Rocky, Cardi B, Busta Rhymes, Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz, Pusha T and more.

No Commission Miami is the seventh in a series of artist support collaborations. Past editions were held in Miami, New York, London, Shanghai and Berlin where artworks were sold and artists retained 100% of sales proceeds. The No Commission platform is realized through a partnership between BACARDÍ, Swizz Beatz, and The Dean Collection in their continued support of cultural visionaries around the world.

This fall, soulful and innovative multi-instrumentalist and singer Zach Deputy will hit the ground running on an 18 city east coast US tour and is making a stop at the North Beach Bandshell in Miami Beach on December 2! Concertgoers can look forward to a unique live music experience as Zach plays a different set every night as an ultimate expression of living in the moment, with the hopes of opening windows to people’s souls to remind them of how good it feels to be alive. He describes his style as “island-infused drum n’ bass gospel ninja soul.”

His one man show creates a unique experience straight from the soul every night, raw and uncut with absolutely nothing prerecorded. As a pioneer of looping and synth guitar work well ahead of his time, he’s taken the technology to uncharted lands delivering a pocket groove unique to the ears. Zach says, “call me crazy, but I’ve always believed live music should always be live, but I’ve also always loved a good tranced out dance party too.” With this in mind he tailored his performances to meet his convictions. Combining his family roots Island vibe with his low country southern soul, a pinch of tranced out hippy hop, and a vast amount of talent, Zach’s sound emerges in focus.

In making his fourth album Wash It in the Water, Zach Deputy dreamed up a sunny and soulful new sound that fuses funk, and folky pop with the spirited rhythms of soca and calypso. With that sound embodied by the album’s brightly melodic and richly textured title track, Wash It in the Water finds the Georgia-based singer/ songwriter/ multi-instrumentalist mining his Puerto Rican and Cruzan heritage for inspiration.

“Because of the music I was raised on, I’ve always heard rhythm in a very tropical, Latin-esque way—it’s something that resonates in the deepest parts of me,” says Deputy, who grew up in South Carolina. “When I was a kid my grandma would play a lot of salsa and soca and make me get up and dance to it, so in a way this is me putting my own spin on all that and bringing those sounds into a whole new era.”

New Voices Launches Dance Now Miami’s 19th Season in Miami Beach and Kendall

Colony Theater
1040 Lincoln Road,
Miami Beach, Florida 33139

Cost: 35

South Florida’s leading contemporary dance ensemble, Dance NOW! Miami, entering its 19th year, is expanding its footprint with its “New Voices” initiative by commissioning a work from Jamaica-born and Miami-raised choreographer Christopher Rudd. The world premiere of his work, sponsored by Miami Salon Group and Citizens Interested in Arts, will be featured in the company’s first major program of the season, on Saturday, December 1, at Miami Beach’s Colony Theatre, with an encore presentation on Sunday, December 9, at the Alper JCC in Kendall.

The program also includes a revival of Dance NOW Artistic Directors Diego Salterini and Hannah Baumgarten’s “Random Patterns of Falling Leaves”, Salterini’s “Melody in Four Parts: Just Traveling”, and the world premiere of Baumgarten’s “Grace.”

“Chris is a perfect fit for Dance Now’s Florida-rooted but international-in-scope approach to today’s dance world,” says Baumgarten. “We are excited about his work, which melds multicultural influences with his own signature style, created specifically for our company’s dancers.” Mr. Rudd’s choreography draws on contemporary ballet, modern dance, and aerial approaches. He trained at the Thomas Armour Youth Ballet and is a graduate of Miami’s own New World School of the Arts. He has gone on to perform with and choreographed for many leading groups, including Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montreal, the Elizabeth Streb company, and Cirque du Soleil, and is the director his New York-based ensemble, RudduR Dance.

“Random Patterns of Falling Leaves” is Salterini and Baumgarten’s critically acclaimed homage to autumn, its revival timed for the ending of fall with its early December dates. Salterini’s “Melody in Four Parts: Just Traveling” is a metaphysical journey from birth to death and the beyond, created after the passing of his mother, with an original score by Ohio composer Jenny Bernard Merkowitz and text from Seattle-based poet Janée Baugher. The world premiere of “Grace,” choreographed by Baumgarten, will tell the story of her Biblical namesake Hannah, bringing a Jewish and female perspective to the performance.

Tickets for the Saturday, December 1 Colony Theatre evening are $35 general admission, and $15 students (at the box office in-person only). Regular price tickets can be purchased in advance online at www.dancenowmiami.org and in-person for all tickets at the theater box office, 1040 Lincoln Road, in Miami Beach.

Tickets for the Sunday, December 9 Alper JCC encore afternoon are $25 general admission, and $20 JCC members and $15 students (at the box office in-person only). Regular price tickets can be purchased in advance online at tickit.alperjcc.org/Attractions and in-person for all tickets at the JCC box office, 11155 SW 112th Ave, in Kendall.

Reiki . Sound Bath . Andara Crystal Healing . Breathwork . Aromatherapy

Join Francine for this monthly reset and healing event happening the last weekend of every month. Each month Francine collaborates with different healers and/or doctors to create a safe space for men and women to treat themselves to a deep and relaxing (read: mostly passive) self-care session for 2 hours. The combination of several therapeutic modalities — including breathwork, crystal sound bowls, aromatherapy, guided meditation, Andara crystal healing and Reiki energy work — open up the body, clear the mind, neutralize the emotions, and balances your energy so as to alchemize anything you’re ready to let go of — old stories, limiting thoughts, emotional traumas, physical pain– into energy that is restorative, refreshing and uplifting.

This month she is joined by natural born healer, Medium, and Reiki Master Teacher Donna Freeman, of Spirit & Beyond. Together the two will lead a journey through opening and clearing each of the major chakras using breathwork, aromatherapy, and a guided Andara Crystals* meditation, followed by a deep receiving of a Reiki energy cleanse paired with a crystal and quartz bowl sound bath.

These circles are a sacred and safe space to open up, purge the old, and plant new seeds of intention, while reclaiming and embodying the ancient wisdom of the divine feminine. As we come together, we create space for sisterhood, nourishment, self-love, connecting to our higher selves, and awakening the dormant creative expressions within.

Creating a life you love is an inside job, but we don’t have to do it alone! This monthly Shakti Women’s Circle with Francine Madera will combine yogic movement, breath/pranayama, mantras, sound healing, and meditation to balance and harmonize our thoughts, feelings, words, actions and attitude.

Expect to walk out of this circle tuned in to your feminine essence, refreshed, grounded, and in alignment to start your next month. Please wear comfortable clothing to move, sweat, and stretch. Class is followed by an optional tea and sharing reception (12-1230p)

Embracing the warm, welcoming and vibrant glamour of The Confidante, the evening will take place in The 1930s House, a private, outdoor Spanish-style bungalow originally built as a one-bedroom family home. Once located across the street from the Collins Avenue hotel, the structure was picked up by crane and relocated to The Backyard at The Confidante, where it currently resides. The evening features passed hors d’oeuvres and retro-themed welcome cocktails created in partnership with The Confidante’s food and beverage team and Tequila Revolución’s master mixologists. Renowned local chef Richard Hales, Chef/Partner of American-inspired on-site eatery Bird & Bone, will showcase a specially curated three-course menu expertly paired with three different expressions of Tequila Revolución.

Chef Hales and Sosa will be present to guide guests through the culinary journey, explaining how the flavors of each dish pair with the tequila. As a 15+ year veteran in the wine and spirits industry, Sosa has represented various prestigious tequila brands such as Patron, Sauza, Cazadores and Partida. After the food and spirits journey, guests will end the evening with a social hour complete with a cigar rolling station and open bar.

Sweet Liberty Drinks & Supply Co. Partners with Waterloo No.9 Gin and Kennesaw Farms to Create World’s Largest Gin & Juice

With Their Mind on the Record and the Record on Their Mind #waterlooginandjuice

On Sunday, October 21st, #21 World’s Best Bar, Sweet Liberty Drinks & Supply Co. in partnership with Treaty Oak Distilling and Kennesaw Farms, will host a record-breaking evening to remember as ‘America’s Best Bar Team’ sets to create the world’s largest Gin & Juice with Waterloo No.9 Gin and Kennesaw Farms juice. The ‘Gin and Juice’ rapper himself, Snoop Dogg, crafted the record-breaking 577-liter cocktail last year at BottleRock Napa festival with the help of fellow West Coast rapper Warren G and Top Chef Season 6 winner Michael Voltaggio. This year, the local’s favorite neighborhood bar, Sweet Liberty, is inviting all locals and out-of-towners alike to partake in Miami cocktail scene history as they set to create the largest-ever 580-LiterWarerloo No.9 Gin & Juice cocktail. Until now, Treaty Oak Distilling’s award-winning portfolio of hand-crafted whiskey and gin has been one of the best kept secrets in Texas. But, the upstart brand recently expanded beyond Texas into new markets, including Miami. The flagship gin (Waterloo No.9) pays homage to traditional dry gins with ingredients like juniper, coriander and anise, but builds in flavor with pecans, lavender and grapefruit zest all harvested in Texas. The night will bring together many of the most well-known names in the global bar industry and bartenders from every corner of the globe to participate in this landmark occasion. Following the conception of this larger than life cocktail, the drink will be broken down into personal sized cocktails for guests to purchase while a percentage of all proceeds will be donated to benefit the son of the late great John Lermayer. October 21st, 2018 marks the 3rd day of Sweet Liberty’s 3rd year anniversary, ending the celebratory weekend with a massive mixology history-making event you won’t want to miss out on!

The final Gin & Juice build will consist of:

320L Waterloo No.9 Gin

160L Fruit Brandy

120L Fruit Juice

TOTAL: 580L

From timeless ashes emerge new beginnings at Faena Theater with SAMSARA CABARET, a new original Faena LIVE production in collaboration with Quixotic, debuting October 2018 at Faena Miami Beach.

Inspired by the Sanskrit word “samsara” referencing rebirth, karmic reincarnation and life’s constant change, Samsara Cabaret fuses stunning visuals, contemporary dance, cirque nouveau, live music, state-of-the-art technology, fire performance and more to create an exhilarating theater experience unlike any other.

Narrated by Faena Theater’s Goddess of Experience through a series of lively vignettes, Samsara Cabaret tells the transformative journey of Artemis, a being made of stardust, as she confronts the light and dark energy that surrounds her. Transcending her own dimension, the show’s lead protagonist, played by Miami native Bianca Allanic, undergoes a startling metamorphosis right before the audience’s eyes through song, dance, acrobatics, optical illusions and beyond.

Samsara Cabaret boasts an outstanding ensemble of award-winning talent, including powerhouse singer and “America’s Got Talent” semi-finalist Yoli Mayor, violinist Shane Borth, cellist Ben Munoz, and Sensatia stars Megan Stockman, EnVee and Samanta Mixan.

The incandescent performance, directed by Quixotic’s Anthony Magliano and Christian Squires, is a sensuous meditation on the eternal cycle of creation and transformation, during which guests are siren-called to leave their old selves behind in search for the ever-new.

Shows on Thursday, Friday and Saturdays at 9:00 pm. Dinner Shows on Fridays & Saturdays at 8:00 pm (Show at 9:00 pm). Doors open 60 minutes prior to Dinner Show guests and 30 minutes prior to all guests. Guests ages 18 and older welcome. Miami Beach, Florida 33139

Cost: $20-$80

Ballet Flamenco La Rosa presents the World Premiere of El Conde Dracula. Created and choreographed by Artistic Director of BFLR, Ilisa Rosal, this work was inspired by Bram Stokers’ Dracula. This potent and vivid Flamenco Ballet connects with this timeless material to create a new incarnation of what is probably the most definitive work in this genre.
In the play, a young lawyer (Jonathan Harker) is assigned to a gloomy village in the midst of Eastern Europe. Harker is captured and imprisoned by the undead vampire Dracula, who travels to London, inspired by a photograph of Harker’s betrothed, Mina Murray. In Britain, Dracula begins a reign of seduction and terror, draining the life from Mina’s closest friend, Lucy Westenra. Abraham Van Helsing, the archenemy of Count Dracula, adds a special twist to the story, as Lucy’s friends gather together to try to drive Dracula away.

This production features 12 dancers and musicians, including six top artists directly from Spain led by Special Guest Artist Pepe Flores, one of the most important artists of his time, in the role of Count Dracula. He will be joined by dancers Agustin Barajas, Juan Mateo and Fran Bas along with singer Luis Moreno and guitarist Miguel Aguilera, who will create and perform original vocals and lyrics for the work.

The story and characters help audiences relate to what is being expressed by the music and dance, which becomes a universal language. It creates an exciting and inspiring theater experience.

DATES: Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 8:00 p.m.
Sunday, November 25, 2018 at 3:00 p.m.

Miami New Drama Presents One Night in Miami…

A play about the night Cassius Clay became Muhammed Ali

WHAT: One Night in Miami…, a play by Kemp Powers

The night of February 25th, 1964, a young Cassius Clay emerges from the Miami Beach Convention Center as the World Heavyweight Boxing Champion. Against all odds, he’s defeated Sonny Liston and shocked the world of boxing. While crowds of people swarm Miami Beach’s hotspots to celebrate the match, Clay, unable to stay on the island because of Jim Crow-era segregation laws, spends the night at the Hampton House Motel celebrating with three of his friends: activist Malcolm X, singer Sam Cooke, and football icon Jim Brown. One Night in Miami… is a play that traces Cassius Clay’s journey to becoming the legendary Muhammad Ali, squarely centering Miami’s critical role as pivotal to the American Civil Rights Movement.

MIAMI, FL (October, 2018) – What happens when you mix the mystical philosophy and music of India with the forward-leaning jazz of the legendary Alice Coltrane? That intoxicating, otherworldly yet deeply earthy music was nearly lost to history until David Byrne (of Talking Heads and more fame) and his Luaka Bop record label recently brought it back to the public with the release of a new album compilation. On Friday, October 12, South Florida audiences have the chance to hear that music live, from the Sai Anatam Singers, who originally performed Coltrane’s devotional compositions, including Alice’s musician daughter Michelle Coltrane, at the North Beach Bandshell, presented by The Rhythm Foundation.

Alice Coltrane was an acclaimed jazz musician, composer, and the wife of John Coltrane, the most venerated and influential saxophonist in the history of jazz. In 1967, John died, leaving Alice a widow with four small children. Bereft of her soul mate Alice turned to Indian spirituality, eventually opening the Shanti Anantam Ashram. Music was the foundation of Alice’s spiritual practice and during this time she released recordings inspired by jazz and the gospel music of the Detroit churches she grew up in, mixed with the Indian music of her religious practice.

This unique concert event, led by Surya Botofasina, an actor and musician who grew up in Coltrane’s ashram, continues The Rhythm Foundation’s eclectic 2018 fall season. “We are all so excited to not only pay tribute to the iconic Alice Coltrane with this event, but also to bring this powerful spiritual and musically moving concert to our North Beach Bandshell” says Par Neiburger, Artistic Director of The Rhythm Foundation.

Tickets for the Friday, October 12, 8:00 pm Alice Coltrane Turiyasangitananda: The Ashram Experience concert are $30 in advance at tinyurl.com/AliceColtraneTix, and $35 at the door. The show takes place at the North Beach Bandshell, 7275 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach (North Beach neighborhood), which is fully wheelchair accessible. Ample on-street and public lot metered parking is available. For more information visit RhythmFoundation.com or call (305) 672-5203. To request materials in accessible format, sign language interpreters, or any disability accommodation, please contact The Rhythm Foundation five days in advance to initiate your request. TTY users may also call 711 (Florida Relay Service).

The Rhythm Foundation, founded in 1988, is a non-profit cultural organization that is a foremost presenter of international music in the US. The Rhythm Foundation has presented concerts, festivals, and events featuring over 800 established and innovative artists from around the world. Special focus is given to those cultures connecting to South Florida audiences. In 2015 The Rhythm Foundation began year-round management of the North Beach Bandshell amphitheater for the City of Miami Beach. Their mission is to connect communities with the rich musical cultures of the world, with the aim of increasing global awareness through the presentation of live music as well as build and strengthen the diverse communities in South Florida through consistent shared cultural experiences.

Support for The Rhythm Foundation, and this performance, comes in part from the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and Cultural Affairs Council and the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners; the City of Miami Beach, the Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs and the Miami Beach Mayor and the City Commissioners; and the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs, and the Florida Council on Arts and Culture.

André Leon Talley has been a fixture in the world of fashion for so long that it’s difficult to imagine a time when he wasn’t defining the boundaries of great style. Kate Novack’s intimate portrait, The Gospel According to André takes viewers on an emotional journey from André’s roots growing up in the segregated Jim Crow South to become one of the most influential tastemakers and fashion curators of our times.

Novack’s film draws fascinating, heretofore unexplored connections, between the elegance of André’s beloved grandmother and the Black Church of his youth and his later iconic, barrier-breaking work at publications like Women’s Wear Daily, W and Vogue. Weaving together a wealth of archival footage from the most glamorous moments in fashion history with André’s poignant reflections on his life and career, The Gospel According to André is a cinematic monument to one of the most unique figures of 20th Century American culture.

Produced by the team who brought viewers The First Monday in May and Page One: Inside The New York Times and featuring commentary from fashion luminaries including Anna Wintour, Marc Jacobs and Tom Ford, The Gospel According to André is an indispensable addition to the growing canon of fashion documentary.
