As a lead vocalist frontman entertainer, Jimmy Williamson has a very high energy show which features classic hits of jazz, pop, R&B, and fusion. He creates magic with his soulful vocal style and ability to connect with the top of the line vocals, stage presence, and showmanship. Jimmy’s charismatic shows will take you on a beautiful journey of his inner soul and creativity.

His All-Star band of musicians is one of the top performing bands in South Florida. The rhythm section consists of both internationally recognized touring and recording musicians. They have been educated by way of Berkley School of Music and the University Of Miami.

Kick-off your Independence Day weekend celebrations with a note-worthy performance from the gifted young artists of the Miami Classical Music Festival. Since its 2013 inception, the Miami Classical Music Festival (MCMF) has been proud to establish Miami as a premier destination for elite young classical musicians seeking the highest level of musical training from the world’s leading classical artists.

The performance will include a 65-piece orchestra and four Broadway solo singers. The orchestra will appear on Lincoln Road as a pop-up performance and gradually grow from a few musicians to a full-scale orchestra. The performance will start with a vibrant rendition of the opening of Game of Thrones. Following the pop-up portion, the orchestra will perform a concert with Patriotic and Broadway standards, including West Side Story Selections and Glitter and Be Gay.

MCMF has welcomed faculty from the world’s most esteemed music institutions, including Juilliard, the Curtis Institute of Music and more.

A great way to celebrate Independence Day is with a full 50 piece orchestra by Miami Classical Music Festival on Ocean Drive playing the 1812 Overture during the annual Fireworks display.

This year we are adding family-friendly activities with face painting, stilt walkers, art painting of the flag, ice cream and much more! The Artisan and Farmers Market start off the day with activities in the afternoon and the orchestra at 8:30 p.m. just before the 9 p.m. fireworks get started.

Enjoy the best view at one of the rooftop venues, or an enjoyable meal at one of the famous outdoor cafes then dance the night away!

With heavy hearts, we all shared in the loss of Sweet Liberty’s founding Father, John Lermayer, who was taken from us way too soon – just last year. John was the force and spirit behind Sweet Liberty, and an example of selfless and charitable action. A dedicated father, award-winning bartender, mentor, friend and die-hard New York Rangers fan, John was best known for his animated personality, enticing cocktails, his love for people, travel, and his son, Radek. At 24 years old, Veronica Swift is widely recognized as one of the top jazz singers on the scene.

In the fall of 2015, the young artist won second place at the prestigious Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition. Since graduating from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami in December 2016, she has performed with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, Chris Botti, and Benny Green Trip, among many others.

They were originally contracted as the house band for the Zarabanda restaurant owned by renowned Cuban singer Willy Chirino. Within a few months Chirino was so impressed with how tight the band sounded that he asked them to be his official backing band. Zarabanda traveled with Chirino for a period of 5 years, performing both nationally and internationally. With his biting political satire, celebrity caricatures, and magazine and advertising illustrations, graphic artist Conrado Walter Massaguer (1889–1965) helped shape the visual culture of his native Cuba between the 1920s and 1950s. This installation of works recently gifted to The Wolfsonian Library by Vicki Gold Levi will bring forth Massaguer’s legacy through dozens of works, from images of the “New Woman” flapper ideal (the so-called “Massa-girls”) in his magazine Social to depictions of tropical paradise for the Cuban Tourist Commission. Massaguer’s transnational reach will be shown in his covers for Collier’s and Life, while cartoons of visiting dignitaries and Hollywood stars will reveal how he rubbed shoulders with Franklin D. Roosevelt, Walt Disney, Albert Einstein, and the King of Spain—all evidence of an artist at the center of Havana’s cosmopolitan culture in the decades before the Cuban Revolution.

Delano South Beach, the iconic oceanfront hotel located in the famed Collins Ave, is hosting a new art installation, POP ART NIGHTS, in its lobby, giving locals and travelers alike, yet another reason to migrate to the beach. Featuring strong pops of color and trendy designs, guests can enjoy the beautiful creations from eight renowned artists from now until June 11th, 2019.

The eight talented artists for this installation collection include:

David David – Unequivocally self-taught and internationally recognized, David David is a French artist who has become one of the most influential and sought-after figures in the Contemporary Art world. From the walls of our streets, to his workshop, David Davids “DNA” constantly makes minds wander through its thought-provoking statements.

Phillippe Berry – Phillippe Berry, a sculpture artist born in Paris, aims to showcase the exploration of childhood worlds: balloons, teddy bears holding hands, figurines of cowboys and indians, snowmen…he works poetically and in many ways in his favorite material, bronze. He likes the idea that viewers can see, understand and interpret his works in multiple ways.

David Kracov – At the age of 12, Boston native, David Kracov, became one of the youngest artists ever to be showcased in the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. He first began experimenting with clay before making his way to steel, creating unique wall sculptures, all hand-cut and hand painted. David discovered and developed different techniques, including the technique of metal laser cutting, which he has mastered and uses throughout his artwork.

Alec Monopoly – After first painting variations of the Monopoly Man in 2008 when the economy crashed as a commentary on capitalism, consumerism, corporate greed and the scandals rocking the banking industry, Alec garnered overnight fame. He now works with clients like Robert De Niro and Adrien Brody, among others.

Mr. Brainwash – Mr Brainwash is a French artist, based in Los Angeles, who is considered the most prominent of the street art movement. Madonna approached him to design the cover of her greatest hits compilation, Celebration. He also took Miami Art Basel by storm, and the Olympic Games in London into another art spectacle entitled “Under Construction” by using abandoned buildings.

Rainer Lagemann – In 2005, German artist, Rainer Lagemann, started welding and found his true passion and a special talent for it. Concentrating on the human body in a modern interpretation of the classic art of sculpture, Rainer became fascinated by it, as well as the classic theme of artistic expression and struggle that has been depicted in all shapes, materials and mediums.

Fabien Novarino – From a very early age, Fabien Novarino loved to draw, paint and make models. At the age of seven, his family settled in the south, where the dazzling light, a new climate and the wild landscapes influenced his young sensitivity. He knew he wanted to be a painter, but did not immediately take up the trade. Fabien followed a commercial career until the age of 27, when he decided to launch upon an artistic adventure.

Dorit Levinstein – Since 1988, Israel native, Dorit Levinstein’s sculptures have been exhibited in the most prestigious contemporary art fairs and have been part of international collections. Her spare, elegant sculptures seem to giggle with delight as if tickled, then stretched out with an exquisite elasticity to form their position in space. Shape and color combine to infuse Dorit works with boundless joy.

Obi Tawil aka Damaged Goods has developed a career out of “stretching the borders of musical sanity”. From a Downtown dance spot, mega South Beach club, or an underground speakeasy, there isn’t a venue Damaged Goods hasn’t stamped with his signature high energy and forever evolving style. In 2008 Obi was resident DJ to an eclectic team of misfits running the local Miami Indie Scene with promotional conglomerate, OVERTHROW. The buzz on their killer weekly party “Black Sunday” raised tons of eyebrows with their somewhat untraditional party themes. Stop motion photography captured weekly cinematic “murders” that immortalized the group’s social profile and gave Obi a break into a niche group of local nightlife celebrity.

Residencies at Mansion, Louis, Mokai, Set and International Sponsorship from Smirnoff Vodka soon followed and so did the opportunity to play alongside heavyweights Deadmau5, Steve Angello, Skrillex, Borgore, Laidback Luke, Steve Aoki, Afrojack, Boys Noize & more. Adding Producer to his repertoire, in 2011 he released “Devastating” with co-producer Sydney Blu and went onto release their second single together, “Giving it Up,“ which took off on Beatport’s Top 10 Progressive charts. Obi’s musical style changed and has had recent releases on Fool’s Gold, Mad Decent, and has a forthcoming release coming out on one of Spinnin’s top sub-labels, “Oxygen.” 2017 is off to a great start securing residencies at LIV, E11EVEN, Hyde Beach (Miami) and Create (LA). Expect more releases and key shows to come throughout the year in what seems to be stacking up as Damaged Goods’ breakout year.

Miami Beach Pride will once again pay tribute to the victims, families, and friends of the Pulse nightclub shooting through its third annual “Pride Lights the Night” event produced by the Lincoln Road Business Improvement District (BID). Join the City of Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber and the city commissioners as they show solidarity for the LGBTQ community at the third annual event on Lincoln Road.

“Pride Lights the Night” is a tribute to the individuals lost during the shooting at Pulse nightclub in Orlando. Buildings and structures throughout the Greater Miami area will be lit with rainbow colors, fly rainbow flags, or debut LGBTQ-themed window displays in support. As part of this tribute, the Lincoln Road BID has invited Pulse survivor Josean Garcia to “Flip the Switch” and illuminate the iconic 1111 parking garage. Had the opportunity to roll through Robin Schulz & Friends at the Spinnin’ Hotel last night. We got to see Robin Schulz himself, as well as a few of his friends. Despite a little bit of rain, the party was popping. The staff at the hotel was awesome (something not always true at MMW parties).

I actually think that in more than a decade of covering Miami events, I have never been in the Nautilus hotel. It is a beautiful place, right between the Shore Club and the Shelborne. The Spinnin’ Hotel goes all weekend, so if you are looking for a good party in Miami Beach, I can definitely recommend it.

Reflections of WMC 2019

Winter Music Conference was March 25-28 at the Faena complex in Miami Beach.

So, I went to check out the new WMC this year. Gotta say I loved it. The new location is beautiful. The vibe was positive and buzzing. Maybe I’m biased because I love being around music biz people, but that is certainly how it felt to me.

It was definitely smaller than back in the heyday, but I heard quite a few people remark that they hoped it would grow in its new home. It does seem like there is still a desire for a professional industry gathering, which is good.

It was well organized. The signage was plentiful and clear, something I am a real stickler about. The staff was polite and helpful, something that is not always common.

They had a nice variety of workshop sessions, including a few that covered more uncomfortable, but necessary, topics, such as mental health issues. There were demos and tutorials, and the modest exhibit hall had quite a bit of gear that attendees could test out.

I think the one thing I missed the most was a talent showcase. I like those a lot. Also, the networking at the Tree of Life was too loosely organized. I would have like to have seen some better management of that. Making connections is really one of the most powerful aspects of a conference, and they let it slide by the wayside this year.

All in all, it seemed a positive and upbeat restart to the brand. I look forward to future iterations as they grow. Below are a few photos of the various spaces and the IDMA after-party.

Wendy Walk is one of the only organizations dedicated to the advancement of sarcoma treatments. The foundation was created in 2010 by the children of Wendy Landes and brought to Miami the same year by temple members Michael and Stephanie Rosen, the brother and sister-in-law of Wendy, and their family in order to proactively support Wendy in her battle with sarcoma, a rare form of cancer. 

The 10th Annual Wendy Walk will take place on Sunday, April 7, 2019, at 9:30am at Palm Island Park. Participants will gather for entertainment and family fun before walking together through Palm and Hibiscus Islands. The event marks the official start of the Wendy Walk season and will mark the six year anniversary of Wendy’s passing. Proceeds go directly toward sarcoma research, as the fundraising effort hopes to develop viable treatment options and improve the lives of those touched by sarcoma.

Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) and HistoryMiami Museum have partnered on a special project to preserve and record our community’s memories of favorite arts and culture moments in South Florida, in connection with PAMM’s anniversary exhibition, The Gift of Art.

As part of the HistoryMiami Museum’s “Miami Stories” program, the collaboration invites members of the South Florida community to share their favorite Miami arts and culture memories at a series of upcoming events. HistoryMiami Museum will be on-site during the remaining events with its Miami Stories recording booth, operated by an interviewer who will be asking a series of questions to capture personal stories of life in the Magic City.

The recordings will become a permanent part of HistoryMiami Museum’s ongoing program, Miami Stories. These recordings will be archived at the museum, and may be published in the Miami Herald or broadcast on the radio through WLRN.

The next event in a series of “Miami Stories” events is set to take place at New World Symphony in Miami Beach, FL on Saturday, April 6 from 6:30–9:30pm. A complete list of event dates, locations and details follows.

Friday April 5 from 7-10 PM: The City of Miami Beach presents “First Friday,” a series of FREE concerts at Normandy Fountain in North Beach, this month featuring the French Horn Collective. The Collective is an energetic and progressive band that performs an eclectic variety of Gypsy Jazz, Swing, and modern original French music throughout South Florida. Joe’s Stone Crab in Miami Beach will once again host Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade’s 8th Annual “Claws for Kids” fundraising brunch on Sunday, May 5. Guests will enjoy delicious stone crabs and other signature menu items without the wait. Proceeds will benefit Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade’s many positive programs, including after school programs, homework assistance, computer training, social skills, dance, arts & crafts, professional mentoring, and summer and athletic programs. The event will kick off with a cocktail reception at 11 a.m., followed by brunch at noon.

Located at 11 Washington Avenue, Miami Beach, 33139, Joe’s will be open for brunch only on May 5 for supporters of Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade’s “Claws for Kids” event. Menu items will include stone crabs, coleslaw, hash brown potatoes, creamed spinach and Key Lime pie. For attendees who don’t eat stone crabs, main course options will also be available.

Frank Sinatra impersonator Jeff Grainger of Sinatra Sounds Entertainment will provide entertainment.

Judy Kramer, a retired Miami-Dade County Public Schools executive, who has chaired the event since its inception 8 years ago is graciously co-chairing this year’s event again. Joining Judy this year are the mother-daughter team, Lisa Mendelson and Lindsey Mendelson, who will be engaging younger professionals and philanthropists with pre-events and promotions. Returning as the Special Events Chair is Olga Guilarte, director of the Carmen Rebozo Foundation. Also on the “Claws for Kids” committee are Vanessa Bertran, Willie Ho, Melissa Pallett-Vasquez, Raúl Rodríguez Jácome, Rae Stein, Virginia Vich and Mark Walker, MD.

“This event continues to grow each year,” said Kramer. “It’s exciting for us to see both steadfast supporters as well as new faces enjoying Joe’s delicious cuisine to raise funds to benefit Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade’s many positive programs.”

With a voice made for the blues and guitar sensibilities that enhance the groove, Rachelle Coba is an intuitive performer able to grab an audience by the heart. She is an innovative writer and she possesses the talent of making new arrangements of cover songs, acoustic or electric, done her way.

She is a classically trained guitarist with a bachelor’s degree in guitar performance. Since graduating from college, she has worked with and toured as a guitarist with artists such as Buddy Guy, Super Chikan, Albert Castiglia, Grady Champion and Ray Drew. As leader of her own band she has played many festivals including the King Biscuit and Chatauqua Hills Blues Festivals. She was a featured performer in the recent Blessissippi Blues benefit in Clarksdale, Mississippi. Recently, the band has opened for Dr. John, The Cate Brothers, Karen Lovely, Candye Kane, Earl and Them, Hadden Sayers, Hamilton Loomis,TUF. She has played with Eddie Turner, Iko-Iko, Joe Pitts, and Stacy Mitchheart , among other stars.
Rachelle is also the resident teaching artist for the blues in the schools program in the Wichita Kansas area. She is currently the teaching art director at Wichita’s Carpenter Place, a home for at risk girls as well.

In celebration of this monumental moment in television history, two iconic names – Sinatra and The Sopranos – come together on March 23, 2019 for an evening of great music and classic storytelling.

Beethoven is Back! Orchestra Miami’s annual series of free outdoor concerts- “Beethoven on the Beach”- returns this March. This year’s edition- “Heroes”- features an all-Beethoven program with a theme of heroism. The program includes excerpts from Beethoven’s only opera, Fidelio, featuring Laura Pederson and Jennifer Tipton, soprano soloists, and Matthew Mannes, tenor and the dramatic “Eroica” Symphony N. 3 in E Flat Major, Op. 55. The 38 musicians of Orchestra Miami will be led by Artistic Director Elaine Rinaldi.
Friday, March 8th at 8:00 PM at the North Beach Bandshell, 7275 Collins Avenue in Miami Beach. This is a FREE event, however there is a $10 per person suggested donation. Friday February 1 from 7-10 PM, FREE: The City of Miami Beach presents First Friday, featuring Idania Alvarez y Yo Soy el Son. The music is full of rhythm, bringing to their audience the essence of their roots. The group is led by the singer and composer Idania Alvarez, who is characterized by her smooth vocal quality. This group is made up of six excellent musicians: Luis Alberto Garcia, bass, voice, and musical director; Joseph Alberto Santiesteban, guitar and voice; Rodys Rosales, Cuban tres and voice; Jose Mora, percussion and voice; and Abdel Borges, violin.

Together they recreate the whole range of Cubania, ranging from the traditional Cuban son, boleros and including conga. Ideana has shared the stage with top Latin artists such as Gilberto Santa Rosa, Willy Chirino, Malena Burke. Dennise de Calaf, India, Meme Solis, Falette, Amauri Gutiérrez, Los Tres De La Habana, Luis Enrique, and many others. For the past six years they have been performing at the famous club Hoy Como Ayer. Mr. Don Francisco (host of Sabado Gigante, on Univision) refers to Idania as her band ” “Listening to this group is to travel on the wings of authentic Cuban music.”

An integral part of all classical schools of yoga is their lineage, or a tracing of their roots from teacher to teacher to teacher. Yoga has been rebranded, restructured to fit modern society but the potency of these practices lie in whats taught in the texts.

Michelle Berlin will lead a workshop that gives a brief history and background of classical hatha yoga, incorporating the breathe work , kriya , & nada yoga. The class will include movement that will help cultivate a meditative mind. Nada yoga is the “union through sound ” the inner transformation using sound vibrations. Traditionally mantra was used but in the experience students will explore their inner world with mantra as well as singing bowls & the hand pan drum.

Miami Reggae Festival expresses the hopes and dreams of a world in which what people have in common is far greater than that which divides. Through the Festival, attendees live not by looking at each other but by looking together in the same direction. Miami Reggae Festival unifies Miami’s diverse community to aid Dade County residents living in poverty. Music has always had the power to unite and inspire humanitarianism. “The Miami Reggae Festival takes it to the top, offering the highest quality of performance, socio-political ambience and service to community available anywhere. Past festivals has featured the likes of: Stephen and Damian Marley, Bunny Wailer, Steel Pulse, Toots & The Maytals, Cultura Profética, Morgan Heritage, Midnite, Gondwana, Natiruts, Tiken Jah Fakoly and Luciano to name a few.

This year Miami Reggae Festival is headlined by the legendary Roots band from St. Croix Akae Beka (formerly Midnite), Akae Beka is the current manifestation of an evolving consciousness. As it is written in The Word, much like the archangel Michael who was responsible for the truths pertaining to the secrets of creation, so does lead singer Vaughn Benjamin today accept his role in a parallel time of rampant deception and broken taboos in the arenas of world leadership. Always rooted firmly in the teachings of His Imperial Majesty, Emperor Haile Selassie I, he says: “my personal evolution and reaffirmed purpose is manifested in this newly declared name from the Book of Enoch: Akae Beka, a sacred oath described therein, the Akae, the Beka, one and the same.”

Also performing from Jamaica; Jah9 and the Dub Treatment, deeply mystical, Jah9 has emerged from a chrysalis of poetry, dub and spirit to become a powerful femiNINE energy within a universal grassroots movement of consciousness. Inspired by the open spaces in the instrumental dub of 1970’s Jamaican roots music, Jah9 sings with a voice that belies the dimensions of her physical body, from a soul much older than its current vessel; “reminiscent of that darkly operatic wailer for truth & justice, Nina Simone.” Her philosophy–profoundly spiritual, and her style–Jazz on Dub.

Miami based Rhythm Flow, zen trance dub will pulse through the crowd, raising the vibration as Colombian Zurich Based DJ Nurstacris maintains the positive vibes throughout the night. Continuing the tradition of collecting non-perishable food items to distribute to those in need, the Miami Reggae Festival partners with Miami charity Hecho en Casa, Visual art displayed echoes sentiments felt throughout the human experience and plant-based and cruelty-free dishes complement the compassionate atmosphere.
