Composer, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Big Poppa E is a prominent and influential figure in the late 20th century blues and roots music. Though his career began more than four decades ago with American jazz, he has broadened his artistic scope over the years to include music representing many varied genres. Born Mutasim Ra’id Faisal in New York in 1948, his father was a jazz pianist, composer and arranger of Caribbean descent, and his mother was a gospel singing schoolteacher from Louisiana. Early in his childhood, the young musician learned to play the tenor and alto sax, trombone and harmonica, and he loved to sing. He discovered his father’s guitar and became serious about it in his early teens when a guitarist from Mississippi moved in next door and taught him the various styles of Muddy Waters, Lightnin’ Hopkins, John Lee Hooker and Jimmy Reed and other titans of Delta and Chicago blues.
Musi, as he was affectionately called, studied economics at Syracuse University in the late 1960s and later law at the University of Chicago. Inspired by a dream, he adopted the musical alias of E and later was crowned “Big Poppa E” by one of Miami’s top promoters, DJ Oski. After graduating, he headed west in to Los Angeles, where he worked as a studio musician for the next 15 years. Around this same time, Poppa E also mingled with various blues legends, including Koko Taylor, Muddy Waters, Junior Wells, and Sleepy John Estes. This diversity of musical experience served as the bedrock for Poppa E’s first three recordings: Southern Style: Blues Sessions (2006), Mississippi Reminiscence (2007) and Five Long Years, A Tribute to Carey Bell (2008). Drawing on all the sounds and styles he’d absorbed as a child and a young adult, these early albums showed signs of the musical exploration that would be Poppa E’s hallmark over the next few years.
In 2008, Poppa E carved out a unique musical niche with a string of adventurous recordings, including “Blues A Healer”, “Crossroads” and “Anthology du Blues”. In 2008, Poppa E’s version of “Terraplane Blues” was nominated by the International Academy of Independent Artist for Best Blues Song of the Year and his album, “Blues A Healer” was nominated for Best Blues Album of the Year by Cash Box Magazine. Poppa E’s recorded output slowed somewhat during 2010 as he toured relentlessly and immersed himself in the music and culture of his new home in Miami. Still, 2010 saw the well-received release of “Big Poppa E Live” in 2010, as well as his celebrated children’s album, “Children’s Classics” on the Black Owl Music label.
Poppa E is headed back into the studio in early 2011 to work on a new projected aptly entitled, “Bootleggers Blues”. As the title suggests, this twelve-track set marks the fortieth anniversary of Poppa E’s rich and varied recording career by mixing original material, chestnuts borrowed from classic sources, and songs written by a cadre of highly talented guest artists from around the globe. “The one thing I’ve always demanded of the records I’ve made is that they be listenable and danceable,” he says. “If the record is danceable, it’s listenable, it has lots of different rhythms, it’s accessible, it’s all right in front of you. It’s a lot of fun, and it represents where I am at this particular moment in my life. This record is just the beginning of another chapter, one that’s going to be open to more music and more ideas. Even at the end of forty years, in many ways my music is just getting started.”

One-Man Show About One-Man Shows at Miami Beach Stage Door Theatre Opening 9/10/11
Saturdays at 2 pm and 8 pm on September 10, 17 and 24.
Miami Beach Stage Door Theatre at the Byron Carlyle
500 71st Street
Miami Beach

Tickets are $38 for the matinee and $42 for the evening performance and are available at the Box Office, by calling 305/397-8977 or purchase online at www.stagedoorfl.org.

Opening Saturday, September 10th, the Miami Beach Stage Door Theatre presents “Song Man Dance Man,” a one-man show about one-man shows created and performed by Jon Peterson, emcee from Broadway’s revival of “Cabaret” and Drama Desk Nominee for the title role in the off-Broadway production “George M. Cohan Tonight!”

Receiving accolades such as “a true theatrical fusion reactor,” “galvanic performance,” “a storm of show business energy” and “ferociously talented” was just part of British-born Peterson’s motivation in creating his own, about song and dance stars who were the whole package.

“Song Man Dance Man” is a joyous celebration of seven consummate artists who captured the eyes, ears and hearts of their audiences. They are Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly, whose unique styles transformed the movie musical; Donald O’Connor and Sammy Davis, Jr., both geniuses who had to struggle for appropriate recognition; Bobby Darin, who made the leap from ‘50s pop-star to sophisticated concert artist; the eccentric, brilliant Anthony Newley, whose pulsating, emotional style reverberated throughout the musical theater world; and, of course, George M. Cohan, who invented the song and dance man.

“I wanted to remind people of just how good it can be; of how magical the world of show business was in those golden days because of these performers,” says Peterson about why he was motivated to create the one-man show. “The dazzling talent and charisma of these artists inspire life-changing devotion.”

YouTube glimpse of Peterson’s tour de force in a production of “Song Man Dance Man” in Las Vegas.

With personality and talent to spare, portraying multiple artistic personalities is not a stretch for Peterson. When “Song Man Dance Man” premiered in New York in 2008, a Cabaret Scenes critic reported: “When he (Peterson) plants his feet and looks into the lights, it’s the kind of razzle-dazzle showmanship that will send goose bumps up your spine…”

“Song Man Dance Man” is presented by Derelle Bunn and David Torres, co-founders and executive producers of the recently opened Miami Beach Stage Door Theatre. With the new theatre housed in the Byron Carlyle, the pair continues their 19-year tradition of producing award-winning musicals at the Broward Stage Door Theatre, their flagship theatre in Coral Springs.

A reception for the artists will be held on Saturday, August 27 from 7-10 p.m. in the gallery. The reception is open to the public.
800 Lincoln Road
Miami Beach, FL 33139

The exhibition features a new installation by Charles, mixed media works on wood by Reedy and Bofill’s prints and textile pieces.

Brian Reedy is best known for his whimsical and provocative woodcuts, drawings and paintings. His work has been widely exhibited locally, nationally and internationally. He divides his time between making and teaching art and holds an MFA from the University of Miami.

Ramon Bofill earned his MFA from Rhode Island School of Design, School of Fine Arts, in Providence, RI. He has participated in numerous local and international exhibitions and sharpened his talents with color and pattern by working as a visual freelancer for various New York fashion houses. He is currently an artist-in-residence at Art Center/South Florida.

Westen Charles creates multi-layered, subtly psychological works and is known for including unconventional materials such as laundry lint and stuffed animals in his work. He received his MFA from the University of Miami and is a co-founder of Locust Projects, Miami’s premier not for profit alternative arts venue.

Join Miami Beach Attorney Michael Grieco and WSVN’s Louis Aguirre As They Host A Fundraiser To Support Miami Children’s Hospital

Miami Beach Attorney and Miami Children’s Young Ambassador (MCYA) Leadership Committee Member Michael Grieco and WSVN’s Louis Aguirre are hosting a fundraiser to support Miami Children’s Hospital (MCH) on Friday, September 9 at 7 p.m. at The Well on Miami Beach.

“As a father, I feel blessed to have one of America’s best children’s hospital in my city that gives kids the best chance at life,” says Michael Grieco. “As a member of MCYA, my goal is to help spread awareness for Miami Children’s Hospital so that children and parents all over South Florida can continue to receive the excellent care that MCH provides.”

MCYA is a membership organization for young professionals between the ages of 22 and 45 who have a strong commitment to improving the lives of children in our community and beyond. Members have the opportunity to network with prestigious business and community leaders, meet with key Miami Children’s personnel and determine how their donations can best be used to benefit the patients and families at MCH.

MCH is dedicated to providing world-class care to children from our community and throughout the United States, Caribbean and across the globe. The hospital has 10 pediatric specialty services among the best in the nation, according to U.S.News & World Report’s 2011-12 “America’s Best Children’s Hospitals” rankings. MCH has 289 pediatric and neonatal beds, the largest children’s cancer center in the region, more than 40 pediatric specialties and subspecialties, South Florida’s only free-standing pediatric trauma center and the largest clinical neurology program in the nation.

In addition, MCH offers six outpatient centers – Doral, Miami Lakes, Palmetto Bay, Weston, West Kendall and Palm Beach County – to accommodate the increasing demand for pediatric outpatient and specialty services in various communities throughout South Florida. Committed to being “where the children are,” the hospital hopes to open more centers to enhance additional community access to MCH-quality care and expertise in the near future.

With goal of helping children with medical needs and raising awareness for MCH, the fundraiser is open to the public and guests are encouraged to make a monetary donation at the door.

Let The Singer Sing!
Randy Singer is no slouch. The guy has played, recorded, and/or toured with the likes of Julio Iglesias, Al Di Meola, Desmond Child, Caetano Veloso, and Stephen Marley to name a few. His virtuosity with the harmonica is world renowned in the recording industry, and he’s done shows around the world. Luckily he calls Miami home. And he’s also the director of music programming at the Van Dyke’s upstairs music lounge, which has one of the most ambitious schedules in the county. Tonight, he exhibits the versatility of his instrument, and his ability as a player, with a performance full of covers, originals, and standards. Expect both Sting and Charlie Parker.

Florida debut of Brazilian singer-songwriter TIÊ live in concert

Singer Tiê (pronounced Chee-ay), a Warner Music Brasil recording artist, is one of the most talked about new Brazilian singers, and is set to perform her Florida debut Upstairs at the Van Dyke on August 23rd. The evening also features Randy Singer’s Airplay, the band led by the renowned harmonica player and music director of the Van Dyke.
At the invitation of the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tiê will perform in the USA in August, with dates in Washington DC (Kennedy Center), New York and Miami Beach.

A São Paulo native, Tiê now 31, had a brief stint as a model for the Ford agency, having worked with director Fernando Meireles in award winning campaigns. She also owned a hip gift shop where she met legendary Brazilian singer Toquinho as well as members of the indie scene of São Paulo, including her producer Plinio Profeta.

After debuting with the minimalist “Sweet Jardim” (2009), one of the most talked about releases that year, Tiê again dove into her songwriting partnerships and developed versions of songs by friends such as Tulipa Ruiz and Thiago Pethit, with more full-bodied arrangements and new elements. She is now promoting her second release, “A Coruja e o Coração”(The Owl and the Heart), produced by Plinio Profeta and released in April by Warner Music Brasil and available in the US on iTunes. The album features hit songs like “Piscar o Olho”, “Você Não Vale Nada” (a surprising cover of a forró hit by Dorgival Dantas, now done flamenco style), and “Perto e Distante” featuring Oscar winner Jorge Drexler from Uruguay.

Tiê is also a confirmed attraction in the massive Rock in Rio festival, held in Rio de Janeiro in September of this year. She will be one of the stars of the Sunset Stage, dedicated to new talents of Brazilian music, and will share the show with Jorge Drexler.

The Ritz-Carlton Hotels Of Miami And Fort Lauderdale Harness The Power Of The Moon Launch Full Moon Series For 2011/2012 Season

As the social season (and cooler weather) approaches, The Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne, South Beach and Fort Lauderdale will launch a new season of Full Moon gatherings, whose humble beginnings emanated from a history book describing Tequesta Indians naming Key Biscayne “Bischiyano,” which meant “favorite path of the rising moon” in their language.

Our romantic imaginations took off, and the Full Moon parties began. You have three soirees to choose from – all beautiful, with different, creative variations; some with mystical themes, one with a charitable component, and one with its own Constellation Concierge to point out the celestial sights in the heavens.

The Ritz-Carlton Hotels Of Miami And Fort Lauderdale Harness The Power Of The Moon Launch Full Moon Series For 2011/2012 Season

The Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne, Miami Moonrise Dinner Dates:
2011: November 10; December 10
2012: January 9, February 7, March 8, April 6, May 6, June 4
When the Tequesta Indians first landed on Key Biscayne’s idyllic shore, they named it “Bischiyano” (“Favorite Path of the Rising Moon,”) for its breathtaking natural phenomenon. The Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne, Miami was so inspired by the monthly occurrence, it created “Moonrise dinners” at signature restaurant Cioppino to transport guests to the mystical past. With an ever-changing four-course menu from Italy’s gastronomic regions created by master Italian Chef Ezio Gamba, tabletop telescopes, and a Constellation Concierge, which is a private guide to the night sky that helps guests pinpoint celestial objects, including stars, planets, comets, nebulae, star clusters and galaxies, this is one of Miami’s best kept secret dinners. Well-priced at $60 per person / $90 per person with wine pairings (or the option to order from the Cioppino menu). (305-365-4286)

While The Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne, Miami island location lends itself to romantic dinners under the stars, The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach and The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale create party atmospheres. Both soirees are open to the public, have reduce-priced valet parking, cocktail & appetizer specials and the city’s top DJs spinning.

The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach, Oceanfront Dilido Beach Club

Celebrate Orgullo To Showcase Hispanic LGBT Pride 10/1/11

Celebrate Orgullo To Showcase Hispanic LGBT Pride
Saturday, October 1 from noon until 6 pm
Lummus Park
on the sand between 10th and 11th Streets
Miami Beach
visit www.celebrateorgullo.com

On Saturday, October 1, the first-ever “Celebrate Orgullo®” event will take place in Lummus Park on Miami Beach. “Orgullo” is Spanish for “Pride,” and this event celebrates the diverse cultural heritage and contributions of South Florida’s LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) Hispanic community

The event, taking place from noon until 6 pm at Lummus Park, between 10th and 11th Streets Miami Beach, will feature musical performances, folkloric dance, celebrity guests, drag performers, refreshments and vendor booths representing the both the non-profit and business community.

Since 1988, Americans have observed Hispanic Heritage Month – September 15 to October 15 – celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of those whose ancestors came from Central and South America, Spain, Mexico or the Caribbean. With Hispanics in Miami-Dade County comprising 65% of the total population, (2010 U.S. Census), Hispanic Heritage Month is widely popular in South Florida, with a myriad of events taking place throughout the month long celebration. As evidenced by the more than 40,000 people who turned out for Miami Beach Gay Pride this past April, there are a significant amount of LGBT and LGBT-friendly supporters in South Florida, and many are Hispanic.

Coincidentally, the theme for Hispanic Heritage Month 2011 is: “Heritage, Diversity, Integrity and Honor: The Renewed Hope of America,” therefore it is especially timely that the first Celebrate Orgullo® will truly celebrate the diversity of our community.

Celebrate Orgullo® is a grassroots effort, conceived and implemented by a group of volunteers who decided that it was time for Miami Beach to lead the way in honoring the cultural contributions of the LGBT Hispanic community. The committee unanimously voted to name the city’s mayor, Matti Herrera-Bower, as “Honorary Orgullo Queen” to recognize her support throughout the years.

There are several opportunities for companies and organizations to become involved and reach out to a lucrative market at Celebrate Orgullo®. Sponsorships range from $500 to $15,000, and a limited number of booths are available at $250 per space, or $150 for a non-profit organization. Complete details are available at www.CelebrateOrgullo.com or call Jorge Richa, (305) 673-4440, or email Jorge@celebrateorgullo.com.

The event is free and open to the public, and a portion of the proceeds from the sale of food and beverages will benefit the LGBT Youth Scholarship Fund of Miami-Dade Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce Foundation, Inc.

Members of the Executive Committee are Ivan Cano, Jorge Richa, Herb Sosa, Laura Veitia and Darvin Wlliams. On the Planning Committee are Lynn Bove, Luis Gonzalez, Joe Granda, Yubi Herrera, Scott Holland, Josue Kant, Sharon Kersten, Josue Santiago, Luiz Rodrigues Soraya Swingen, Peter Tapia and Hernan Valverde.

Media Partners to date, who are donating advertising and promotion to Celebrate Orgullo® are AMBIENTE Magazine, Florida Agenda, Hot Spots!, GENRE Latino, Mark, Mark’s List, Miami Gay Blog, She Magazine, South Florida Gay News and WIRE Weekly

Community Partners/Sponsors, committed to providing support through donations of product, community outreach and/or financial support, are Brown-Forman, Bud Light, City of Miami Beach, City of Miami Beach GLBT Business Enhancement Committee, Chambord Vodka, ECOMB, Granda Entertainment, Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau, Hotflyers.com, Ikandee Productions, Inferno Puerto Rico, Kersten Communications, Leblon, Miami Dade Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, MDGLCC Foundation, Inc.” Miami Reconnect, Noche Latina Florida, Palace Restaurant & Bar, South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce,Tequila Herradura, Unity Coalition|Coalicion Unida and Worldwide Travel Partners.

The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover the 30-day period from September 15 through October 15.

The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September18, respectively.

About the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force
The mission of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force is to build the grassroots power of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community. We do this by training activists, equipping state and local organizations with the skills needed to organize broad-based campaigns to defeat anti-LGBT referenda and advance pro-LGBT legislation, and building the organizational capacity of our movement. Our Policy Institute, the movement’s premier think tank, provides research and policy analysis to support the struggle for complete equality. As part of a broader social justice movement, we work to create a nation that respects the diversity of human expression and identity and creates opportunity for all. Kim’s Good Karma Group, founded by Miami philanthropist Kimberly Shenker-Bacardi, is a charitable organization consisting of herself and like-minded friends dedicated to helping those less fortunate around the world. Ms. Bacardi became aware of the essential work that Food For The Poor (FFP) has undertaken in Haiti after witnessing her neighbor, Dr. Jules Cadet, tirelessly raise funds over the past few years for his countrymen. As Ms. Bacardi is well aware of how important fundraising is for any organization, she decided to go where her heart guided her. Kim’s Good Karma Group was born.

After visiting Haiti on a mission trip with Food For The Poor and The Florida Marlins, Ms. Bacardi recognized the need to help. She visited many of the FFP villages, orphanages, and facilities they constructed and witnessed the conditions most Haitians were living in. She was moved by her experiences so much that she decided that the first fundraising effort that Kim’s Good Karma Group (KGKG) would take on would be for for the construction of the Kim’s Good Karma Group Community Center within the Marlins’ Homes For Haiti Village, built by Food For The Poor.

The KGKG community center will be a multi-use facility, providing vocational training classes and community meetings, as well as offering a safe and sturdy shelter during hurricane season. “I am so excited for this opportunity because it does not stop here; the more money we raise, the more lives we can positively affect. The plans are to have a minimum of 25 homes, sanitation, a water source and community center. Our goal for the community center is $40,000, and the more we give, the more we can add to help more families with additional houses, solar lighting, and agriculture.” Kim remarked after her trip.

For information on how you can help KGKG or for interviews please contact goodkarmamiami@aol.com.

Food For The Poor is the third-largest international relief and development charity in the United States, feeding 2 million poor every day. Their Christian relief programs and projects are helping children and the poorest of the poor by providing food, housing, health care, education, water projects, emergency relief and micro-enterprise assistance in the Caribbean and Latin America.

Established in 1982 as a 501(c)(3) corporation, FFP’s goals are to improve the health, economic, social and spiritual conditions of the men, women and children they serve. Food For The Poor raises funds and provides direct relief assistance to the poor, usually by purchasing specifically requested materials and distributing them through the churches and charity organizations already operating in areas of need.

SOBE Work Spaces opened its doors with a kick off party By Betty Alvarez

On August 5, SOBE Work Spaces held their open house/kick off party to the public as part of their Grand Opening celebration. Located in the heart of South Beach at 1680 Michigan Avenue, just off the famous Lincoln Road Mall, SOBE Work Spaces is South Beach’s first co working location. The lively space, inspired by the offices of tech giants Google and Facebook, is made up of 17,000 sqft of a modern, innovative work environment. Miami’s leading internet marketing company, SpiderBoost has already secured 5,000 sqft of office space. With floor to ceiling windows and a 360 degree view of South Beach this location has it all including the best technology available in the beach, free coffee, a lounge with an xbox, 3 conference rooms, a large kitchen and a fast paced high energy setting.

SOBE Work Spaces is Miami Beach’s first coworking location and it offers an alternative to the isolated environment of home offices and executive suites. Coworkers at SOBE Work Spaces benefit from interaction with fellow small business owners and a sense of community in which to share knowledge that often leads to new opportunities and discoveries otherwise unavailable in other work settings.

SOBE Work Spaces understands the challenges of today’s economy and provides state of the art shared workspace that helps their members meet those challenges. “Due to the changing economy and resultant job losses and career changes, the number of resourceful entrepreneurs, freelancers, self-employed individuals and contract workers has increased dramatically. We understand the needs of [these workers] and not only want to provide a fully functioning workspace, but also a professional environment in which they can thrive,” said Armando Martinez, President of SOBE Work Spaces.

The design of the overall space and the culture encourages the development of a sense of community. Members leasing space are still working independently, but they share values and are interested in the synergy that occurs from working among like-minded people in the same space. An instant network with fellow members is created giving them the opportunity to utilize or promote each others’ services.

SOBE Work Spaces offers an ideal coworking space with a mixture of open, shared working areas with dedicated desks for those looking to trade their home office or spot at the coffee shop for a professional work environment. There are also a number of dedicated desks that provide a greater level of privacy, yet still allow for interaction with coworkers. Well-appointed dedicated offices are another option for businesses requiring more privacy and storage. SOBE Work Spaces is also an excellent solution for virtual offices.

Membership prices start at $399/month and are selling out fast. Whether you need a dedicated desk, dedicated office or a virtual office, SOBE Work Spaces provides a prestigious address and an expert front office team that will provide your business with a professional and polished image. It is ideal for providing credibility for start-up companies, small and home-based businesses that are looking for an enhanced image and support services, and especially for growing companies looking to establish a presence overseas.

Captivating, soul stirring, earthy and funky. These are just some of the words used to describe the song stylings of LeNard Rutledge. Growing up in Miami, Florida, LeNard was always surrounded by many different musical styles. His parents had an extensive music collection ranging from Classical, Jazz, Hymns and the funk of James Brown.

In the fall of 1984, LeNard went to St. Augustine’s College in Raleigh, NC. LeNard was awarded a Band Scholarship by Dr. Harold Jeffries (Director of Bands). It was in Raleigh when LeNard’s musical journey took flight. In the fall of 1984, he recorded two jingles for WLLE, a local AM radio station. He played drums, co-wrote and sang background vocals. He played timpani and general percussion in the Concert band and was the back–up drummer for the Jazz Ensemble. After a year of hinting and periodic begging, LeNard got his first big break. In the fall of 1986, LeNard sang the ballad “Teach Me Tonight” at the Annual Spring Concert. His confidence grew as he sang more songs, which led to other projects such as studio work and voice-over jobs. For fear of letting his drumming chops falter, LeNard played at area clubs to keep the rust away. A musical friend (Rick Best) introduced him to song writing.

In 1992, Stanley Baird, an area saxophonist, asked LeNard to submit songs for his upcoming CD, Stop, Look & Listen. Stan recorded three of his songs and released them on his label, Saxony Records. In 1995, LeNard submitted two of those songs to the Billboard Songwriting Contest. One of the songs, “So In Love (with you)” placed in the top 1% of 50,000 R&B entries. In the fall of 1995, he returned for a while to Miami. Needing extra cash to return to school, a childhood friend, Alan Morley told him he could earn extra money producing Rap and Hip-Hop Music. He introduced him to Gary Bradshaw (a Miami Rapper). From October 1995 to January 1996, LeNard “ghost wrote” and produced 9 original tracks for Gary. After returning to school in January of 1996, LeNard made the Dean’s List and Graduated in May 1997 with a B.S. Degree in Industrial Hygiene and Safety.

In May 1997, LeNard moved back to Miami. In October 1997, LeNard auditioned as a vocalist for the Melton Mustafa Orchestra. He got the gig and was the featured vocalist until 2003. LeNard has been a featured vocalist at area jazz spots in South Florida. The Museum of Contemporary Art, the Van Dyke Café and O’Hara’s Jazz Pub are the most notable. LeNard has shared the stage with a number of highly respectable jazz artists such as: Nnenna Freelon, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Kenny Drew Jr., and Harry Allen. In May of 2006, LeNard was named BEST JAZZ ARTIST, by the Miami New Times magazine. His first CD, Hello World, was released in November.

Espirito Santo Bank Presents Maria Bethania in Concert 11/11/11

Espirito Santo Bank presents Maria Bethania in concert
Friday November 11th, 8PM
Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theater

Tickets on sale August 5th at 10AM through Ticketmaster outlets or the Fillmore box office.
$100 – $80 – $60 – $40

Exclusive US concert date – first appearance in Florida since 1988!

“With her low, throaty voice, Miss Bethania caresses her ballads, letting the melodies stretch out, warm and languorous. She sings love songs with breathy intimacy; other ballads pour out phrase by tender phrase as if she were thinking them up on the spot. For all the rich melancholy of her ballads, Miss Bethania can also breeze through uptempo songs, riding the propulsive rhythms of her home state, Bahia, and tossing off lyrics in easy syncopations.” — The New York Times

Singer and icon, Maria Bethânia became a major star in Brazil as one of the founders of tropicalia in the late 1960s. Along with her brother, Caetano Veloso, and musical partners Gilberto Gil and Gal Costa, the four young musicians created a cultural wave still rolling today. Shirking the repression of Brazil’s military dictatorship, Bethania and company married the electricity of the psychedelic era and youth culture with the traditional beauty of Brazilian music and culture. She quickly earned her nickname “abelha rainha” (queen bee) of MPB (Brazilian Popular Music). In five decades, Maria Bethania has released more that 30 albums, having shared the spotlight with legends like Edu Lobo, Chico Buarque and her colleagues from Bahia, Gil, Gal and brother Caetano. Since the very beginning of her career, her work is synonymous with professionalism, integrity and a deep respect for the craft of songwriters, poets and musicians.

L’elisir d’amore, an Italian comic opera, by Gaetano Donizetti. Premiered in Milan in 1832, it was immediately a tremendous success. Its amusing and witty plot describing relationships of a loving couple and beautiful, melodious and light music make L’elisir d’amore one of the most frequently performed 19th-century Italian operas.

The libretto of the opera, written after the French playwright Eugene Scribe’s comedy, is based on the legend about the magic love potion, taken from Gottfried von Strassburg’s courtly romance Tristan. The unexpected, mock interpretation of the medieval legend gives it a new meaning: people are capable of filling each other with the elixir of love and kindness without any magic potion.

The feelings experienced by the opera’s characters – love, coquetry, rivalry, jealousy – are everlasting as life. So, the story of L’elisir d’amore could be set at a Venetian carnival several centuries ago, just as well as in a present-day town. Adina a rich villager and Nemorino a less fortunate peasant together with Dr. Dulcamara and the Sergeant Belcore are the protagonist of this beautiful opera that includes the famous tenor’s aria “Una furtive lagrima.”

Miami hotel debuts major exhibition as part of ongoing commitment to arts, culture, and philanthropy

A commitment to arts and culture continues at The Betsy-South Beach, as the hotel debuts its next exhibition featuring a career retrospective of photographs by Robert Zuckerman. Zuckerman is highly recognized for his work in the motion picture industry, with his emotionally rich work depicting actors both on and off the set. Highlights in his ‘Portraits’ collection include faces of well-known actors such as Javier Bardem and Morgan Freeman, and also feature images of iconic poets Alan Ginsberg and Maya Angelou, among many others. Two other collections, Kindsight and Time Machine will also be displayed.

The exhibition opens on August 14, with a reception held from 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm. Zuckerman will be in attendance at the opening, which will be hosted by Rachael Taylor and Ramon Rodriguez, stars of the new Charlie’s Angels television series, currently in production in Miami.

The drama of cinematic settings is tightly framed as Zuckerman focuses on the personal expression of actors and subjects in their element. Zuckerman’s inspiration is to convey emotion. Al Pacino in a driver’s seat of a convertible with cigar taken in Miami in 1999, reveals a recognized persona, and an unmistakable silhouette with little detail. Some reveal a more enigmatic side such as Morgan Freeman shown in deep thought. Other celebrities photographed and on exhibit include Rosanna Arquette in New York City, 1990, and Gena Rowlands on scene in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1995.

Also on display at The Betsy is a selection from Robert Zuckerman’s series Time Machine. Zuckerman revisits photos from the past, taking a personal and nostalgic journey, as they conjure up memories of a certain place and time. Scanned and reprinted after being vaulted for decades, Zuckerman invites viewers to join him as he reconnects with an earlier time in his life. From black and white billboards photographed in 1977 to capturing typography on signs evident of a specific moment in time, the artist exploits isolated objects and their photos of the past as relics; with neon sign and trucker’s lunch as icon, he redefines the term ‘object d’arte’. The ‘Kindsight’ collection, here showing 25 of some 500 pieces done over the past decade, invites viewers to find beauty in every day faces and to find wisdom in poetic recollections of a first meeting. Kindsight, the coffee-table book, is available for purchase at the exhibition.

Betsy Exhibitions are made available as a component of the Hotel’s Philanthropy, Arts, and Culture Program, with viewings free and open to the public. All works are for sale, and a portion of proceeds of Zuckerman’s work will be donated to Zara’s Center, an organization dedicated to providing support for AIDS impacted children in Zimbabwe and The Foundation for New Education Initiatives, Inc supporting Miami-Dade County schools.

Don Boot talks about their music:
We have been singing good Ole’ gospel music and playing lively, camp-meeting style gospel piano as a husband and wife team since 1983.

I started playing keyboards with a traveling gospel quartet while in college as early as 1969. Some of my fondest memories are of climbing on that old “Blue Whale” (a converted school bus painted bright blue!) along with other members of the “Revelators” and heading on down the road. A short time later, I began singing in the quartet and I have been playing piano and singing with gospel quartets and trios ever since.

One day I heard a recording of a young woman singing and playing a guitar and I was immediately taken by what I heard. Her voice had a special rare quality that really made an impression on me. I had to meet the girl behind that voice. When I did, I found Jadene to be a beautiful person inside and out…to match her singing! We married in 1983 and have teamed up together in gospel music ever since.

In support of First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” initiative, which focuses on fighting childhood obesity and putting children on the path to a healthy future, IDEA@thebass’s family yoga will offer an outlet to get kids moving with the support of their parents and community. Classes will be held at 2:15 p.m., 2:45 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. and will be tought by a kid-certified YOGI instructor; yoga-friendly clothing is encouraged.

IDEA@thebass is an interactive family event held at the museum on the last Sunday of every month from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The art-centered activities are designed to engage both children and parents in a fun and creative environment. Activities include “FUN in the Sun: Design Beach Toys,” and other summer-themed arts and crafts. Admission to the museum and activities are free of charge. The initiative is generously supported by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.

Located in Miami Beach, the Bass Museum of Art offers a dynamic year-round calendar of exhibitions presenting contemporary art, works of art from its permanent collection of Renaissance and Baroque paintings, sculpture and textiles and newly opened Egyptian Gallery. Artist’s projects, educational programs, lectures, concerts and free family days complement the works on view. Founded in 1963 when the City of Miami Beach accepted a collection of Renaissance and Baroque works of art from collectors John and Johanna Bass, the collection was housed in an Art Deco building designed in 1930 by Russell Pancoast. Architect Arata Isozaki designed an addition to the museum that doubled its size from 15,000 to 35,000 square feet between 1998 and 2002. Most recently, the museum selected internationally acclaimed Oppenheim Architecture + Design to lead its first phase of design and renovation tied to the 2010 completion of Miami Beach’s highly anticipated Collins Park. Oppenheim redesigned and relocated the museum’s arrival area to flow from and into the new park on Collins Avenue. For more information, please visit http://www.bassmuseum.org

Singer Patty Ascher and her expert crew of Sao Paulo,Brazil-based sidemen led by music director Marco Ponte and production supervisor Marco Menescal expertly navigate the sensuous territory of Bossa, Jazz ‘n’ Samba in ten Patty Ascher originals, and the classic evergreen The Summer Knows.

• Patty’s version of The Summer Knows by Marilyn & Alan Bergman and Michel Legrand has an arrangement by Dori Caymmi, a Brazilian singer, guitarist, songwriter, arranger, and producer who is a two-time Grammy Award winner.
• Dori’s arrangement is a tribute to another inspiration in Patty’s career, the French pianist and composer Michel Legrand, who has won 3 Oscars and 5 Grammys. Patty has already toured with him in Brazil twice, in 2008 and 2009, and further US dates together will be announced shortly.

Brazilian singer Patty Ascher has a bachelor’s degree in Literature from the University of São Paulo, Brazil, but she always had music in her life: her father Neno was part of a very successful Brazilian band from the 70s, Os Incríveis (The Incredibles). In 2007, Patty released her debut album: Bacharach Bossa Club. The album featured famous Burt Bacharach songs recorded by Patty with bossa nova arrangements and was a best seller at Uol – the biggest internet portal in Brazil. Her first album was released around the world, including the US.

In both September 2009 and 2010, Patty performed at Feinstein’s, the exclusive supper jazz club in the Loews Regency Hotel on Park Avenue in Manhattan. On Labor Day 2010, Patty also appeared at legendary comedian Jerry Lewis’ MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association) Telethon, a 21 hour-long fundraising event which is broadcast from Las Vegas to over 170 stations throughout the US.

Patty Ascher’s new album, released in Brazil under the title Deu Jazz no Samba, but in the rest of the world by ZOHO as Bossa, Jazz ‘n’ Samba, is a collection of 11 exquisite songs, with Patty singing both in English and Portuguese. She wrote most of the songs with co-writers Marco Pontes. Many great Brazilian musicians participate in this album, and Patty explains that it is kind of a tribute recording to them.

“We have so many talented musicians in Brazil, so we thought about making Bossa, Jazz & Samba as a tribute to these brilliant musicians. For me, it’s an honor to be able to have so many of these incredible players in our team”, says Patty.

With the talent, personality and elegance of Dori Caymmi, Amilson Godoy, Jota Morais, Eduardo Lages, Gilson Peranzetta, Aluisio Pontes, Cristovão Bastos – some of the great names, and arrangers who participate in this recording – and Patty’s one-of-a-kind voice, the result is an album filled with pop and jazz, bossa and samba, and a handful of latin ballads.

Roberto Menescal – a famous Brazilian songwriter and jazz guitarist and Patty Ascher’s mentor – is the production supervisor on this new album. Menescal, with Antonio Carlos Jobim a founding father of the Bossa Nova genre in the late 1950s and 60s, has performed and composed in a variety of Latin music genres, including Brazilian pop, Música Popular Brasileira, and Samba. He was also nominated for a Latin Grammy for his work with his son’s bossa group Bossacucanova in 2002. In addition to his role as production supervisor, he also plays his distinctive “bossa-jazz-guitar” in Sunrise: an English version, with English lyrics written by Patty, of the Brazilian song Amanhecendo, composed by Lula Freire and Roberto Menescal.

On the album’s opening track, Springtime, Patty comments, “I wrote this song when were coming from a gig in Chicago, in 2008: What’s “Jazz ‘n’ Samba”? Well, here is our answer – this is what this song is all about.”

A two-time Latin Grammy nominee, Rolando Grooscors was born in Caracas, Venezuela. His love for Brazilian music motivated him to start different projects where Brazilian music was infused with Latin and Jazz influences. Here he began to develop a Jazz/Fusion style. The experience greatly influenced Rolando’s musical development.

Leading his own band, Rolando has recently released his debut CD, “THANKFUL”. The band is a sextet including Piano/keyboards, Bass, Sax/wind controller, drums and percussion.

His compositions have been called “masterful” and with the attention already received, Rolando is pushinghimself to have his voice defined in music, both as a sideman and as a band leader.

The Grand Opening of Dream South Beach was a Grandiose Affair By Betty Alvarez

With owners Sant Singh Chatwal and Vikram Chatwal, the grand opening of Dream South Beach Hotel was a spectacular event with many surprises. First, we were surprised as we made way at the red carpet with a fire eater as he did many tricks to the guests of the party and hotel guests. A glass of champagne awaited each guest as they were transported to the rooftop were the party was in full swing.

Guests were treated to cocktails and for this hot weather: cocktail popsicles which really gave a kick to the party. Appetizers from mini burgers to tuna tartar were served. By the lovely pool area, models gave a fire show in the water. It really wowed the guests. DJ mixes by Andrew and Andrew gave the crowd great vibes of today and yesteryear music.

It was an unforgettable summer social event.

KCC Productions and the Van Dyke Cafe present Silvano Monasterios and the Fourth World Ensemble 7/21/11

Voted “Best Jazz Musician in Miami (2009)” by the Miami New Times, pianist-composer Silvano Monasterios hails from Caracas, Venezuela. Silvano has performed with a number of important artists including Ira Sullivan, Terumasa Hino & the World Jazz All-Stars, Othello Molineaux, Dave Liebman, Melton Mustafa, Marc Johnson, Donald Byrd, Alan Harris, Paquito D’Rivera, Arturo Sandoval, Nathen Page, Randy Brecker, Sammy Figueroa, Paul Wertico, Mark Egan, Shakira, David Lee Roth, and Nestor Torres.

In 1998, Silvano was voted “New Artist of the Year” at the Hennessy Cognac Jazz Search in New York City. 1998 also marked the release of his first CD, Roads Not Taken, which received outstanding reviews in the U.S. and Latin America. In 2006, his new recording, Fostered, was released. Fostered features all original compositions, including the award-winning “Avila”.

Silvano composed, performed & co-produced two songs, including the title track, of the 2008 GRAMMY-nominated album, “The Magician”, by Sammy Figueroa & His Latin Jazz Explosion. This wonderful CD was nominated as “Best Latin Jazz Album of the Year”.

The Fourth World Ensemble, emerging in 2007 from Monasterios’ desire to experiment with the fusion of Latin Rhythms, World Music and Pure Jazz, features Monasterios on piano, accompanied by percussion, drums, bass and saxophone. The ensemble performs all original music composed and arranged by Silvano. This year saw the release of their new CD, Unconditional, on Savant Records. Exhibiting an insatiable appetite for challenge and change, Silvano has recorded eight new and imaginative compositions. While this latest work is likely destined to be classified as “Latin Jazz” with its assortment of indigenous percussion instruments and rhythms, it is totally devoid of the Latin clichés often encountered in pseudo-Latin jazz. Instead, it showcases an artist with a complete understanding of his complex Venezuelan roots, who is aware of the Austro-Germanic-European compositional heritage and who, at the same time, is steeped in the great American jazz tradition.

It’s a Disco Thing 7/20/11

Disco was influenced by (but not only) funk, Latin and soul music. The disco sound has soaring, often reverberated vocals over a steady “four-on-the-floor” beat, an hi-hat pattern with an open hi-hat on the off-beat, and a prominent, syncopated electric bass line sometimes consisting of octaves. The Fender Jazz Bass is often associated with disco bass lines, because the instrument itself has a very prominent ‘voice’ in the musical mix. In most disco tracks, strings, horns, electric pianos, and electric guitars create a lush background sound. Orchestral instruments such as the flute are often used for solo melodies, and unlike in rock, lead guitar is rarely used. Well-known late 1970s disco performers included Donna Summer, Gloria Gaynor, The Bee Gees, A Taste of Honey, Candi Station, KC and the Sunshine Band, Chic, and The Jacksons. Donna Summer would become the first well-known and most popular disco artist, giving her the title ‘The Queen of Disco’, and also played a part in pioneering the electronic sound that later became a part of disco.

Last but not least, Disco fashion was very trendy in the late 1970s. Discothèque-goers often wore expensive and extravagant fashions for nights out at their local disco, such as sheer, flowing Halston dresses for women and shiny polyester Qiana shirts for men with pointy collars, preferably open at the chest, often worn withdouble-knit polyester shirt jackets with matching trousers known as the leisure suit. Necklaces and medallions were a common fashion accessory.

Opening Production at Miami Beach Stage Door Theatre at Byron Carlyle
Is a Baby Boomer’s Delight

Combining the best songs of the Baby Boomer era with a lot of humor, a stellar cast and a veteran technical team, “Suds” is the ideal choice for Miami Beach Stage Door Theatre’s debut at the landmark Byron Carlyle in Miami Beach. The show begins its run on Friday, July 29 and continues through Sunday, September 4.

The highly anticipated opening of the Miami Beach Stage Door Theatre will not disappoint! Derelle Bunn and David Torres, co-founders of the Broward Stage Door Theatre, their flagship theatre in Coral Springs, are widely known for producing large-scale, award-winning musicals. The theatre received a Carbonell Award for Best Production of a Musical in 2011, and with the opening of “Suds” at the Byron Carlyle, they bring their 19 years of successful theatre production experience to Miami Beach.

“Suds” features more than 40 hits from the ‘60s, with the accompaniment of a live three-piece band. From “Chapel of Love” to “Johnny Angel,” “Suds,” will take you back to your first kiss, your first make-out session under the boardwalk or your first ride in a GTO. The music serves as a fun-loving backdrop for the hilarious story of three girls trying to find love in a laundromat, and it bubbles over with fun!

The show’s previous run at the Broward Stage Door Theatre garnered rave reviews, and while originally scheduled to run there for six weeks, it was so successful that it was extended for six months. With the same production team for “Suds” at the Miami Beach Stage Door Theatre, the show will certainly maintain the Stage Door’s high level of excellence.

“Opening in the summer, we wanted to kick off the season with a light, fun musical production, continuing our tradition of presenting the best in musical theatre,” says Derelle Bunn. “We are looking forward to our new second home and to working with the area businesses to make North Beach a thriving destination for locals and tourists alike.”

Technical Credits: Award-winning director/actor Dan Kelley, a fixture on the local theater scene for 25 years, directs “Suds.” He is often recognized from his appearance on the pilot of Burn Notice and is a regular on the HGTV series My House is Worth What? Bill Hirschman, theatre critic at the Sun-Sentinel, praised Dave Nagy for his musical direction of “Suds.” “As musical director, Nagy has masterfully led the quartet in creating nougat smooth harmonies…The entertainment is as comfortable as a pair of saddle shoes.” The set is crafted by Stage Door Scenic, Lighting by Ardean Landhuis and Costumes by Costume World, the world’s largest costume house.

Following “Suds,” South Florida arts patrons are in for an exciting 2011-2012 season of award-winning musicals, beginning with “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.” The season’s roster also includes “Lend Me a Tenor,” “Guys and Dolls,” Irving Berlin’s “I Love a Piano,” “Annie,” Neil Simon’s funniest and most famous comedy “Last of the Red Hot Lovers,” the all-time favorite “My Fair Lady,” “The All Night Strut!” and “Little Shop of Horrors,” one of the longest running Off-Broadway shows of all time.

Patty Ascher CD Release Show 8/18/11

Thurs., Aug 18, 201
Deauville Lounge
6701 Collins Avenue
Miami Beach, FL
www.deauvillelounge.com
www.pattyascher.com

Patty Ascher and Zoho Music are pleased to announce upcoming tour dates in support of her new ZOHO CD “Bossa, Jazz ‘n’ Samba”

“Bossa, Jazz ‘n’ Samba” (Zoho 201103) Street Date: April 12, 2011
Brazilian singer Patty Ascher holds a bachelor’s degree in Literature from the University of São Paulo (USP), but she has always had the music in her life. Her father Neno was part of a very successful Brazilian band from the 70s, Os Incríveis (The Incredibles), and she has an uncle who works with many Brazilian popular artists.

In 2007, Ascher released her debut album, Bacharach Bossa Club, produced by the great Roberto Menescal. The album featured Ascher’s versions of famous Burt Bacharach songs with bossa nova arrangements and was a best seller on Uol, the biggest internet portal in Brazil. The album was also released around the world.

Ascher’s new album, Deu Jazz no Samba (Jazz in Samba), is a collection of 11 exquisite songs, most of them written by the singer with co-writers Marco Ponte and Ronaldo Rayol. Many great Brazilian musicians participated in this album, and Ascher says the disc is, in a way, a tribute to them. “We have so many talented musicians in Brazil, so we thought about making Deu Jazz no Samba a tribute to them. For me, it’s an honor to be able to have so many incredible players on the same team.”

With the talent, personality, and elegance of Dori Caymmi, Amilson Godoy, Jota Morais, Eduardo Lages, Gilson Peranzetta, Aluisio Pontes, and Cristovão Bastos – some of the great names that participate in this work – and Ascher’s one-of-a-kind voice, the final result is an album filled with pop and jazz with a bit of bossa and some Latin ballads. Roberto Menescal – a famous Brazilian songwriter and Ascher’s mentor – was the Production Supervisor on the album, and he played his bossa-jazz-guitar on the track “Sunrise,” Ascher’s English version of the Brazilian song Amanhecendo, from writers Lula Freire and Menescal. “Summer Knows,” by Marilyn and Alan Bergman and Michel Legrand, has arrangements by Dori Caymmi and is a tribute to another important musician and inspiration in Ascher’s career – the French orchestra conductor, pianist, and composer Michel Legrand, who is a three-time Oscar winner, and with whom she toured around Brazil in 2008 and 2009.

Famed local jazz artists make noise for Friday night happy hour at the Bass

The Bass Museum of Art will resume its celebrated Hot Nights Cool Jazz concert series on Friday, July 15 through August 26 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The six-week summer series will run every other Friday evening and will feature some of the best contemporary Jazz artists in South Florida.

The ever-popular happy hour and jazz night kicks off with the Martin Bejerano Trio on July 15. Martin Bejerano, a Miami native, has been active as a professional musician since the age of 15. Employing a serious technical command of the piano and a commitment to lyricism and musicality, Bejerano has continually garnered critical praise across the world.

Bejerano has performed with Grammy award-winning artist Roy Haynes, Russell Malone, the Christian McBride Band, Kenny Garrett, Lonnie Plaxico, Jimmy Heath, Ignacio Berroa, Mingus Big Band, Ira Sullivan and Marcus Strickland. He has also toured with “Jazz Reach,” a non-profit organization that presents multimedia concerts for school children across the country, educating them on the history of jazz music as an American art form.

Martin Bejerano will perform with his trio consisting of Josh Allen on bass and Reinier Guerra on drums.

On July 29, the series continues with Silvano Monasterios and the Fourth World Ensemble. Voted “Best Jazz Musician in Miami” by the Miami New Times in 2009, pianist-composer Monasterios began his professional career at the age of 18. A true piano prodigy, Monasterios has become one of the most admired and requested piano jazz players in Miami.

Monasterios has performed with a number of acclaimed artists including Ira Sullivan, Terumasa Hino & the World Jazz All-Stars, Othello Molineaux, Dave Liebman, Melton Mustafa, Marc Johnson, Donald Byrd, Alan Harris, Paquito D’Rivera, Arturo Sandoval, Nathen Page, Randy Brecker, Sammy Figueroa, Paul Wertico, Mark Egan, Shakira, David Lee Roth and Nestor Torres.

Monasterios will be joined by the Fourth World Ensemble, featuring Troy Roberts on saxophone, Gabriel Vivas on bass, Rodolfo Zuniga on drums and Jose Gregorio providing additional percussion. Silvano Monasterios and the Fourth World Ensemble is presented by KCC Productions.

On August 12, the Troy Roberts Quartet will bring its signature style to the museum. Hailing from Perth, West Australia, award-winning saxophonist and composer Troy Roberts is currently based in the U.S. and on adjunct faculty at the University of Miami. He recently received his first Grammy nomination for his performance on Sammy Figueroa’s latest record, “The Magician.”

Troy Roberts will be joined by Silvano Monasterios on piano, Erick England on bass and David Chiverton on drums.

The series will conclude on August 26 with a performance by the David Siegel Quintet. As an alumnus of both New World School of the Arts and University of Miami School of Music, pianist David Siegel has performed nationally with major jazz artists including Maynard Ferguson, Nestor Torres and Arturo Sandoval. As a commercial writer and producer, his name has appeared on over 40 million records sold worldwide.

David Siegel will be accompanied by Dave Fernandez on saxophone, Fernando Ulibarri on guitar, Josh Allen on bass and John Yarling on drums.

Hot Nights Cool Jazz is free for museum members and $10 for non-members. Jazz Happy Hour offers complimentary beverages courtesy of Rex-Goliath Wines. Seating is limited.

In Sense Miami culminates their 2nd anniversary celebration with a whopper of a burger By Betty Alvarez

In Sense Miami Social Media Management celebrated their 2nd year anniversary and also their incorporation at 80z Burger Bar. Other than networking, guests had the opportunity to have a welcome drink with other drink and Happy hour menu specials.

However, the big thrill of the night was the gigantic burger that served as the “anniversary cake” Nobody ever seen such a huge burger and it was the talk of the event. 8oz burger bar introduced the burger challenge to guests and even passed out pamphlets indicating the rules of this challenge. This challenge should be on Man vs Food, it is the perfect item. The burgas was cut with a saw. That is how enormous it was.

All in all, guests enjoyed themselves with great networking and great burgers.
