Magic City Casino welcomes classic rock icon, Styx, to its Magic City Amphitheatre for a performance on Friday, March 9 at 8pm. Country star Rodney Atkins will also perform at the casino on Sunday, March 11 at 4pm, along with special guest Sunny Sweeney.

“The weekend of March 9th will be a rockin’ one at Magic City Casino. Styx will kick it off on Friday, March 9th with their classic rock sound, and Rodney Atkins and Sunny Sweeney will wrap it up on Sunday, March 11th with their country twang. We encourage concert-goers to get their tickets early, as our last two concerts have sold out,” said Scott Savin, Chief Operating Officer of Magic City Casino. “The lineup this season has been first-class, and both concerts will surely be among the highlights.”

Styx, originally from Chicago, was one of the arena rock kings from the late 1970s and early 1980s. The album, Grand Illusion, was released in 1977 and became Styx’s breakthrough album, reaching Triple Platinum certification. It generated the top-ten hit “Come Sail Away.” Pieces of Eight, their 1978 album, was responsible for the singles “Renegade,” which reached the #16 spot, and “Blue Collar Man (Long Nights),” which peaked at the #21 spot on the U.S. charts. Styx’s 1979 album, Cornerstone, yielded a #1 hit, “Babe.” The band continues to tour and produce award-winning music to this day.

Rodney Atkins will be the first country act to be presented at Magic City Casino as part of its concert series. Atkins, a Tennessee native, has sold over four million singles in the past five years and has had six #1 hits from his previous three albums. His latest album, Take A Back Road, is quickly moving up to Platinum status. He received the New Male Vocalist of the Year Award in 2006 from the Academy of Country Music.

Opening for Atkins will be Sunny Sweeney, an acoustic guitar playing, proud Texan. Sweeney’s debut album, Heartbreaker’s Hall of Fame, produced three singles with “If I Could,” “Ten Years Pass” and “East Texas Pines.” Her song “From a Table Away” became a top ten hit on the Billboard Hot Country Songs in 2010.

Magic City Casino will be presenting weekend concerts through May. The upcoming concert lineup currently includes:
March 31 Smash Mouth & Sister Hazel (8pm)
April 14 Davy Jones & David Cassidy (8pm)
May 12 Exposé, Lisa Lisa, Tiffany & Nelson (8pm)
May 19 Willy Chirino with special guests, the Celia Cruz All Stars (8pm)
