Goya Foods of Florida is pleased to announce its first-time partnership with renowned pastry chef Hedy Goldsmith during the 2012 Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival presented by FOOD & WINE (SOBEWFF). Known for her playful approach to desserts that often skirt the line between sweet and savory, Goldsmith was asked to develop an exclusive recipe using a range of Goya products as ingredients. The delicious result, Black Bean Cupcakes with Guava Frosting, will be served at Goya’s outpost at the Grand Tasting Village on Sunday, Feb. 26 from 3:00-5:00 p.m., including a recipe demonstration by the pastry chef herself.

“Goya Foods is proud to be a first-time participant and the official Latin/Hispanic Foods provider of the 2012 SOBEWFF. The partnership with pastry chef Goldsmith gives us the perfect opportunity to showcase the authenticity and versatility our products bring to any type of cuisine,” said Frank Unanue, president of Goya Foods of Florida. “We are very lucky to have her as part of our showcase and we know that guests will enjoy the exciting and exclusive recipe she has created for Goya using our products.”

Goldsmith is currently the executive pastry chef at Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink in Miami and Grand Cayman where she offers desserts inspired by fresh ingredients in season, as well as homemade versions of her favorite treats from childhood like Cracker Jacks, Nutter Butters, Oreo’s, smoked bacon candy and her now-legendary Pop-Tarts at Sunday brunch.

“When Goya approached me to come up with a recipe for the festival my first thought was how much fun I was going to have in the kitchen baking with such a wide variety of products, from black beans to Panilla cane sugar,” said Goldsmith. “Having recently turned in the manuscript for my forthcoming cookbook, Baking Out Loud, I have been in testing mode. This was an exciting challenge to go a little out of my box, and I know we nailed it. I can’t wait to see the expressions on festival guests’ faces when they are pleasantly surprised to enjoy black beans in cupcake form!”

During SOBEWFF Goya will be a part of the Whole Foods Market Grand Tasting Village on Saturday, Feb. 25 and Sunday, Feb. 26. In addition, Goya will take to the high seas aboard The Biscayne Lady for Brunch at Sea hosted by Douglas Rodriguez & Aarón Sanchez on Sunday, Feb. 26. Goya also will be a part of the Festival’s family-friendly programming, Florida Blue’s Fun and Fit as a Family featuring Kellogg’s Kidz Kitchen, which will take place on Saturday and Sunday Feb. 25-26, at Jungle Island. Guests will be able to enjoy delicious recipes created by Goya chefs Fernando Desa and Carey Yorio – throughout the festival weekend.
