The Third Ave Art District in downtown Fort Lauderdale will celebrate its annual Artwalk. The artists of the district, many with varied international backgrounds, will open their studios to the community on February 4, 2012, from 6-10pm. The Museum of Art | Fort Lauderdale-Nova Southeastern University and Girls’ Club will also open to the public as part of the tour.

This group of eleven professional artists has focused its efforts on creating a visual arts district in Fort Lauderdale. In the professional world, these artists are national and international award winning talents visible in museum, public and private collections.

Printmaker Rosanna Saccoccio’s delicate prints have expanded into a ongoing series of mixed media collaged paintings that will be on view. Her guest photographer Pat Moss will be showing a new series of work for the event. Rosanna first bought a two-story building for her studio over 40 years ago. Since 1995, the other artists have bought, built, or rented space in the area of her studio.

Artists in the district include Francie Bishop Good showing a new series of photographs and drawings. Her guest artist for the evening will be Miami photographer Dogan Arslanoglu showing a new body of work entitled, The Weight. Tin Ly will add to his large, painterly sculptures, a new series of drawings on bamboo sheaths. Madeline Denaro will display her restive, abstract paintings from her current theme, Between. Mary Lou Siefker will show her colorful abstract paintings along with her Image Series. Wilma Bulkin Siegel, will be showing her new portraits of art collectors series: The Collectors. Tobey Archer will exhibit paintings, examples of her public art and light sculptures along with other new artworks. Janet Gold will be featuring a series of intimate, mixed media collages. Margi Glavovic Nothard, hosts guest photographers to explore her work in:
GLAVOVIC: LAYERS_Architecture and Art through the Photography of Paul Clemence, Margi Glavovic Nothard, Robin Hill and Peter Nolan – connecting Art and Architecture. The group has welcomed two new members: Henning Haupt whose gestural drawings and large colorful oil paintings generate intimate visual spaces, and Michel Pellus whose paintings are impressive and realistic.

Participating once again will be the Museum of Art | Fort Lauderdale-Nova Southeastern University, and they will be extending their hours until 9pm for this special event. Primordial: Paintings and Sculpture by Isabel De Obaldia will be on view along with works from the Glackens and Cobra collections with free admission. For those wishing to see Offering of the Angels: Paintings and Tapestries from the Uffizi Gallery, this special ticketed exhibition closes at 6pm, (last entry at 5pm). Start with one of the exhibits or end your tour at the Museum with a glass of wine on the Plaza or hang out on the Peck Terrace, now featuring the wall painting by Arturo Herrera.

Also featured in this year’s Artwalk is an exhibition presented by Girls’ Club, a non-profit alternative space exhibiting contemporary art by women. The current exhibit,Re-Framing the Feminine, curated by Dina Mitrani, is a selection of photographs from the collection of Francie Bishop Good and David Horvitz.

Free trolleys will be available to escort visitors from one location to another throughout the night. This is a special chance to meet the artists or even start an art collection. It is an opportunity to engage in the creative experience of the artist’s studio setting and to purchase professional artwork. This experience is only offered to the public once each year.
