Created by The Betsy arts team, the film explores Miami Beach’s historical role as a training hub for over 500,000 World War II soldiers. It combines archival footage, veteran interviews, and wartime poetry by Hyam Plutzik to capture the personal stories and sacrifices of service members and their families.
Created in partnership with The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus in 2010, this short documentary and multimedia film uses poetry and World War II letters to reflect on wartime sacrifice, family, and remembrance. Its title originates from the closing line of Plutzik’s poem Requiem for Edward Carrigh: “Nothing can be done / But something can be said at least.” A three-time Pulitzer Prize finalist, WWII veteran, and soldier-poet, Plutzik inspires The Betsy Hotel’s commitment to arts, culture, and community.
After the film, step outside to the ORB for Letters of Gratitude in Light, a separate illumination honoring veterans through original thank-you letters and video tributes. ORB hours are November 7 to 10, 6 to 11 PM nightly.
