Chairman Joe A. Martinez is inviting all Miami-Dade County residents to attend his 7th Annual Health & Safety Expo on Saturday, June 25, 2011 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Miami-Dade County Fair and Expo Center’s E. Darwin Fuchs Pavilion on Coral Way and SW 109 Avenue. Families can attend the free fair and undergo free health check-ups for glucose, high blood pressure, HIV, hemoglobin, cholesterol, and much more. Children can also receive free immunizations with a parent or legal guardian’s permission and vaccination records. Jackson Heath System will be providing 23 free mammogram tests, which will be on a first come, first serve basis for Miami-Dade residents only.

Each year, the expo garners approximately 2,000 attendees who receive medical exams and consultations from health care professionals. More than 70 exhibitors and service providers will provide services and medical care at the expo. In addition, the Miami-Dade Blue medical insurance program, a three-year pilot program, offers comprehensive medical insurance at affordable monthly rates to Miami-Dade County residents who are struggling with the high cost of insurance and do not qualify for government health programs. Residents are also encouraged to bring their old showerheads to exchange them for a new, high efficiency model from Miami-Dade’s Water and Sewer Department.

Representatives from the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will be available to assist residents in applying for a driver’s license or ID card, and vehicle tag renewals. Residents must bring one form of identification (certified U. S. birth certificate, valid U.S. passport, certificate of naturalization, consular proof of birth abroad, alien registration receipt card), one document showing their Social Security Number (Social Security Card, W-2 form, pay check showing number, or any 1099 form), and two documents verifying a physical address (deed, mortgage, payment booklet, rental agreement, Florida vehicle registration or title, utility bill or hookup/work order, statement from person you live with along with two address documents in that person’s name). More information on the documents required for a license or ID card are available online at www.GatherGoGet.com. There is a fee for driver’s licenses and ID cards (prices are available here).

“Health care should be a priority for all residents, but seeing a doctor may not be in financial reach for everyone,” said Chairman Martinez. “The Annual Health & Safety Expo allows residents to seek medical care and advice from professionals in our community and take the initiative in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.”

The 7th Annual Health & Safety Expo is made possible through the sponsorships of Kendall Regional Medical Center, AvMed Health Plans, FPL, Clear Channel, the Florida Department of Health, Jackson Memorial Hospital, Baptist Health South Florida, Borinquen Health Care Clinic, Univision Radio, Community Health of South Florida and Miami-Dade County.
