The South Florida Museum, in affiliation with the Smithsonian Institution’s Jazz Appreciation Month, is spearheading the second annual Manatee Jazz Fest April 9th-18th, 2010. Plan to celebrate the entire week to enjoy distinctive settings and venues to celebrate this uniquely American art form. For instance, enjoy a Duke Ellington tribute performance at the Manatee Players Theater on Sunday, April 11th, dance the night away with Latin Jazz at the Cuban Cultural Celebration at the South Florida Museum on April 16th, or enjoy the day listening to the sound of jazz on both Manatee Jazz Fest Saturdays at the Downtown Bradenton Farmers’ Market with performances by Tom Barrett Dixieland Jazz on April 10th and the popular Jazzology Trio on April 17th.

Enjoy a small, one day taste of the celebration of Jazz music, culture and history during this county wide event, or arrange to indulge in an unforgettable week. Prices and times vary for all events. For instance, the Cuban Cultural Celebration is $20 in advance or $25 at the door and includes food and entertainment while afternoon concerts in the local historical parks are free.

Partnering organizations and Manatee Jazz Fest event venues include the South Florida Museum, Art Center Manatee, Manatee Players, Village of the Arts, Bradenton Downtown Development Authority, Manatee Village Historical Park, Palmetto Art Center, Palmetto Historical Park and others. Event calendars and more information are available at each of these locations beginning in March 2010.
