The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County is pleased to present Miami-founded, genre-bending band, THE MAVERICKS on March 15, 2024 at 8 p.m. as part of the Live at Knight series in the Center’s Knight Concert Hall.

Tickets for THE MAVERICKS range from $45-$90* and may be purchased now online at arshtcenter.org, or at the Adrienne Arsht Center box office by calling (305) 949-6722.

THE MAVERICKS, the eclectic rock and country group known for crisscrossing musical boundaries with abandon, have gone through three distinct phases since their founding in Miami in 1989. An initial period of heady success marked by big hits and critical acclaim in the ’90s. A long hiatus starting in 2003, when the musicians each went their own way. And finally, a triumphant reunion in 2012 that held long enough for the band to recently celebrate its 30th anniversary.

THE MAVERICKS ushered in the fourth phase of its evolution with the No. 1 Billboard debut of their first-ever, all-Spanish album, En Español, released in 2020 on the band’s own Mono Mundo label. Although all 12 tracks are in Spanish, the collection represents a diversity of musical styles and cultural traditions, from tender boleros to brassy mariachi and reimagined Afro-Cuban classics. Seven of the tunes are gems drawn from the vast Latin American songbook, while five are originals written or co-written by the band’s frontman, Raul Malo.

THE MAVERICKS’ infectious live show, which fuses rock, latin, Tex-Mex, norteño and salsa varieties, has earned the group worldwide recognition as “America’s greatest live dance band.” Fronted by Cuban-American vocalist Raul Malo, whose timeless and inimitable voice NPR Music calls “one of the best in the U.S.,” THE MAVERICKS have remained a highly-coveted touring ensemble for over three decades.

Joined by special guest Hector Tellez Jr., whose classic-rock swagger and exotic flair have garnered him a passionate audience in his homeland of Cuba, THE MAVERICKS will be performing hits like “Dance the Night Away,” “All You Ever Do is Bring Me Down,” and “What a Crying Shame.”

Shops at Merrick Park, known for its pristine outdoor shopping with lush green spaces and a fine collection of retailers in the heart of Coral Gables, will once again host the world-famous Los Trompos art exhibition created by Mexican designers Héctor Esrawe and Ignacio Cadena. This interactive vibrant outdoor display will make its return to South Florida, captivating audiences from February 13 through March 21 for one month only.

“Los Trompos,” which means “spinning tops” in Spanish, is a traveling exhibit that has been displayed in cities around the world, including Mexico City, Paris, and New York. The lively installation will feature eight larger-than-life, three-dimensional colorful spinning tops in a variety of colors and shapes that invite visitors to play and engage with the art. The art draws its inspiration from a toy that has been popular with children around the world since the dawn of time.

The colorful surfaces of each top are created, in part, by fabric woven in a traditional Mexican style. The fabric is stretched over the modules to seat several people at once. Functioning as both artwork and a rotating platform, each sculpture acts as a gathering place for relaxation, social interaction and entertainment.

This large-scale, artistic installation engages visitors in a way that is both meaningful and playful. By working together to create momentum, visitors can spin the tops on their bases.

Los Trompos was first commissioned by High Museum of Arts, Atlanta. Owners of Los Trompos are DTE Energy Beacon Park Foundation and The Downtown Detroit Partnership. The tour producer is Creos.

Los Trompos at Shops at Merrick Park is free to attend (no ticket required). Visitors are encouraged to take the tops for a spin, sit back and relax, or pose for the perfect photo opportunity. The exhibit is suitable for all ages.

Here for a limited time, discover and explore this immersive experience before it’s too late! For more information visit: https://www.shopsatmerrickpark.com/en/events/los-trompos.html
