Design Subtropic, South Florida’s first design festival, will hold its highly anticipated event on Thursday, March 10 through Saturday, March 12, 2022, in Miami’s Design District, featuring speakers from some of the most influential design companies in the world.
The festival will begin at 10:30 a.m. inside Paradise Plaza, where featured graphic and web designers will discuss digital execution, creative illustration, and design as a tool for storytelling. Thursday’s headliner and Pentagram Partner Giorgia Lupi is widely known as co-author of Dear Data and co-founder of Accurat, an internationally acclaimed data-driven design firm.
Friday’s talks are designated to interior design and architecture with headliners Pat Bosch and Jacqueline Touzet. As Design Director and founding partner of Perkins&Will’s Miami office, Bosch received recognition for her innovative work on L’Oreal Research Headquarters in Brazil, the American Express Headquarters and projects across the globe. Founder of Touzet Studio, Jaqueline Touzet is recognized as AIA’s Architect of the year and has designed award-winning mixed-use projects in Asia, Europe and in the USA. The two designers will discuss the end of disposable architecture from developer and architect perspectives.
The Business of Design is Saturday’s topic of discussion. Headliner Chris Do is an Emmy award-winning designer, director, CEO and Chief Strategist of Blind and the founder of The Futur- an online education platform with the mission of teaching 1 billion people how to make a living doing what they love. Do will teach the audience how to find and land the right clients.
The festival’s presenting sponsor Google will give a talk on Thursday and host a portfolio review for design students on Friday at Ampersand Studios.
As the first year of the festival, Design Subtropic strides to become the space where design and creativity is celebrated on a yearly basis. Looking into a future where both professionals in the field and general public cohabitate thanks to a variety of experiences under the lens of design.
