The Miami Science Museum is hosting a preview reception of Images of Science, an exhibition presented by the Max Planck Florida Foundation. A collection of 40 striking photographs of scientific research from around the world, Images of Science will be on view for the first time in Miami at the Museum after traveling to prestigious museums and embassies in Germany, Austria and Thailand.

During the reception, attendees will enjoy cocktails as well as getting a sneak peek at Images of Science, which will be on view at the Miami Science Museum from March 29 through August 2012.

Scientific research frequently produces images of strikingly aesthetic structures and colors – abstract pieces of art from a world invisible to the eye. Every year, Germany’s Max Planck Society asks scientists from their 80 institutes and research facilities to provide images of their research that are then juried by a panel of architects, photographers and journalists. Their selections form the basis of the traveling exhibit Images of Science. So far, there have been three rounds of competition and the exhibit, which is currently composed of approximately 40 images, has traveled to a variety of destinations including Deutches Museum Munchen (German Museum Munich); Ars Electronica, Linz, Austria; Haus der Wissenschaft (House of Science), Bremen, Germany; and the German Embassy, Bangkok, Thailand, among others.

Current exhibitions at the Museum, viewable daily from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., include Moving Things, Earth From Space: The Magic Planet, Energy Tracker, Mangrove Coast Photographs by Barry Fellman, Heart Smart, The Sea Lab, Wildlife Center and Biscayne’s Underwater Secrets.
