It’s estimated that 1 out of 4 kids is bullied. Cardinal Gibbons is the first Catholic high school in Broward County to present Rachel’s Challenge – a nationally-renowned bullying and violence abatement program founded by Darrell Scott, father ofRachel Scott, the first person killed at Columbine High School on April 20,1999. Cardinal Gibbons is also the only Broward County high school to host the program since 2009.

The 1-hour presentation, based on Rachel’s acts of kindness and compassion coupled with the contents of her diaries, presents powerful audio/video footage of her life and the Columbine tragedy that motivates students to create a positive change in the way they treat others. Following the presentation will be a 90-minute training session involving both adult and student leaders.

That evening, the Rachel’s challenge presenter will conduct a complimentary powerful session open to the public with parents and community leaders. The program will educate parents, students and teachers about the effects of bullying. The overall goal is to reduce or hopefully eliminate bullying in school.

The Scott family and other Rachel’s Challenge certified presenters have spoken to over 11 million people in live settings, and have reached millions more by being featured on popular media outlets such as CNN, Fox News, The Today Show, Good Morning America, Larry King Live, Oprah, Dateline, The O’Reilly Factor, Hannity & Colmes, and numerous others. Darrell Scott met with President Bill Clinton on two occasions, and President George W. Bush has written a personal letter recommending Rachel’s Challenge.
