Event Information
Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Miami/Fort Lauderdale is partnering with The Miami Symphony Orchestra (MISO) to provide underprivileged families and individuals from Miami’s poorest neighborhoods with an opportunity to experience the magic of the symphony up close and personal – including a backstage tour and meeting with internationally famed Music Director & Conductor Eduardo Marturet. For many of these 200 guests, attending the symphony would not otherwise be possible. Breast cancer survivors have also been invited by Komen to share in this intimate experience.

The guests, invited by Komen and its partner community agencies, will attend an open rehearsal of the orchestra’s signature concert of the season, “An Evening in Vienna,” at 12 p.m. Sunday, January 23, at the Adrienne Arsht Center, Knight Concert Hall, 1300 Biscayne Boulevard, Miami, 33132.

The event, titled “MISO Behind the Scenes: Music for the Soul,” is a unique musical journey led by Maestro Marturet in preparation for MISO’s formal performance of “An Evening In Vienna” that takes place at 8 p.m. that night at the Arsht Center. Unlike a typical concert situation, this open rehearsal provides a unique opportunity to share an afternoon with Maestro Marturet and the 80 musicians and witness the inner, private side of their musical preparations, while relaxing in a fun, engaging, friendly atmosphere where the music is literally discovered in a new and fresh way. Guests will enjoy a private backstage tour and chat with the Maestro and musicians.

“An Evening in Vienna” is a popular New Year’s celebration concert that includes great overtures, waltzes and dances, and features MISO’s concertmaster violinist Daniel Andai as soloist. It emulates the traditional New Year’s Day concert performed by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, which takes place every January 1 in Vienna. Admission for the Open Rehearsal “MISO Behind the Scenes: Music for the Soul” concert is available by invitation only. Tickets for the formal concert at 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 23, and further details are available at: http://www.themiso.org/susangkomen.php . Members of the news media are invited to attend the open rehearsal as well as the formal concert.
