‘No Seasoning’ Art Exhibition Opening Reception 2/27/26

‘No Seasoning’ Art Exhibition Opening Reception

Copperbridge Foundation

North Miami, Florida, 33161

Cost: 0

The Copperbridge Foundation, in partnership with NAEMI, presents No Seasoning, a historic group exhibition that explores racial discrimination, marginalization, and the layered stigmas faced by artists living outside traditional cultural, social, and institutional norms.

No Seasoning is a historic group exhibition presented at the Copperbridge Foundation headquarters, featuring the work of seven Afro-descendant Cuban Outsider artists.

Curated by independent curator and art critic Elvia Rosa Castro, this exhibition marks the first presentation of its kind in Miami.

Castro describes the exhibition as a “Ten-Minute Stop,” offering viewers a pause for authenticity and unfiltered expression amid a world influenced by standardization, censorship, and lingering colonial structures.

Featuring works by Pedro Pablo Bacallao Perdomo, Gloria de la Caridad García, Misleidys Castillo, Isaac Crespo, Daldo Marte, Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara, and Martha Iris Pérez Santana, the exhibition spans collage, drawing, sculpture, and photography, presenting a powerful and non-stereotypical vision of resilience and creative autonomy.

The exhibition will be on display at Copperbridge Foundation from February 27 through May 23, 2026.

The works are drawn from the NAEMI Collection, made possible through the generous support of Juan Martin, NAEMI’s Executive Director. The exhibition will be accompanied by a specially designed catalogue and a series of public programs, including a panel discussion, documentary screenings, and community-engaged initiatives.

The art exhibit would not have been made possible without the help of organizations like Broward Behavioral Health Coalition (BBHC) Inc., which provides a comprehensive system of care for substance use, mental health, and co-occurring disorders for individuals in Broward County.

Other events and activities taking place during the exhibition will include:

Panel Discussion on Wednesday, March 4 at 6 p. m. to 9 p.m.: Elvia Rosa Castro will participate in a panel discussion, Channeling Wellness Through the Arts, alongside Silvia Quintana, LMHC, CAP, CEO of Broward Behavioral Health Coalition. The discussion will explore how art contributes to wellness across diverse lived experiences and supports healing and recovery.

Drumming Circle on Friday, May 22 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.: South Florida Wellness Network will conduct a drumming circle led by a performer in recovery. This is a participatory experience inviting the audience to express and interact through drumming. This event will mark the closing of the exhibition.

History Fort Lauderdale, committed to preserving our collective heritage, promoting historical literacy, and fostering a sense of pride and stewardship for the vibrant tapestry of our region’s history, is proud to present “Shifting Perspectives,” a new art and photography exhibit honoring Black History Month. This year’s free annual exhibit will feature works rooted in social justice, the Black experience, women’s stories, and nature from artist Constance Ivana plus archival photographs from the History Fort Lauderdale collection and an art show and sale from Dillard Center for the Arts’ Advanced Placement (AP) students and instructors, from February 1 – 28. A meet and greet with the artists will take place on Sunday, February 1, at from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., at the New River Inn Museum of History building on History Fort Lauderdale’s campus.

History Fort Lauderdale artist-in-residence Constance Ivana is passionate about creating bold, vibrant works of art that spark reflection, conversation, and joy. Her creative journey is fueled by a desire to connect people through art—whether it’s through large-scale murals, interactive art workshops, or painting parties that bring communities together. Her pieces blend acrylic paint, spray paint, wood, and mirrors that not only transform spaces but also remind us that art heals and reflection fosters growth. She aims to make art accessible, meaningful, and powerful, while inspiring others to discover their own creativity.

The archival photography component chronicles African American life in South Florida from the 1900s through the 1960s. From family and school life to segregation, peaceful protests and triumphs, the selected photos offer insight how our community has evolved and overcome. Curated by Dillard instructor Celestin Joseph, the advanced placement student showcase illustrates a cultural reflection of today’s issues as see through the lens of upcoming young artists.

Joseph received his master’s in fine arts in painting from the University of Pennsylvania. He received a bachelor’s in fine arts, cum laude, from the University of Hartford as a painting major, with an art history minor, and concentrations in printmaking and graphic design studies. Joseph also received a prestigious Yale/Norfolk Art and Music Scholarship to further his studies. Currently, he is teaching Advanced Placement studio art classes at his alma mater Dillard Center for the Arts where he has been strengthening the visual arts program since 1999.

History Fort Lauderdale’s “Shifting Perspectives” exhibit is sponsored by the following funds at the Community Foundation of Broward: Jan and Ed Crocker Unrestricted Fund, Leo M. and Alice J. Rutten Fund, and The Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation Broward Community Fund. Additional funding is provided, in part, by Broward County Board of County Commissioners as recommended by the Broward County Cultural Council and Visit Lauderdale.

History Fort Lauderdale offers a variety of engaging multicultural experiences throughout the year. It seeks to bring awareness to the community through both traveling exhibits and multiple permanent displays including “Women Trailblazers,” “Fort Lauderdale – the Early Years,” “Roots of Resilience: The Journey of Black Broward,” “From Dugouts to Dream Yachts: The Story of Boatbuilding Along the New River,” “Seminole Arts & Culture,” “New River Archaeology,” “Viva Fort Lauderdale: Celebrating Hispanic Art & Culture,” “The Growth and History of the Broward County Sheriff’s Office,” and “Take PRIDE, a Retrospective on LGBTQ Life in South Florida.”

Mostly Baroque presents Classical Music Performance Festival 2/27/26

Mostly Baroque presents Classical Music Performance Festival
Friday, 02/27/2026-, 07:00 pm-08:00 pm
Adrienne Arsht Center
1300 Biscayne Blvd,
Miami, Florida, 33132
Website
Cost: $46.80

Mostly Baroque presents an intimate three-concert series from February 26 – March 1, 2026 in Carnival Studio Theater, making its debut during the Adrienne Arsht Center’s 20th anniversary season. The South Florida-based instrumental ensemble is dedicated to historically informed vocal concerts and instrumental performances of the music of Bach, Handel, Telemann and Vivaldi, among other Baroque composers.

A Baroque orchestra is more intimate in both size and sound than a modern symphonic orchestra, featuring violins, violas, celli, double bass, harpsichord, flute, oboe, and trumpet. The musicians perform on period instruments or faithful reproductions, using Baroque bows that produce a warmer, softer and more nuanced tone than modern orchestral ones. This historically informed approach allows audiences to experience the music much as it would have been heard in the 18th century – with clarity, balance, and a natural expressiveness that highlights the beauty and detail of the compositions.

Mostly Baroque concert series schedule:

Thursday, February 26, 2026 at 7:00 p.m. – The festival opens with J.S. Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos Nos. 2, 3 and 4, and a performance of GP Telemann’s Don Quichotte suite. (Running time: 120 minutes.)

Friday, February 27, 2026 at 7:00 p.m. – Rising bass-baritone concert artist and composer Johan Hartman will perform Gerald Finzi’s Let Us Garlands Bring (a setting of five Shakespeare songs), along with the Don Quixote songs of Jacques Ibert (written for the 1933 film) – performing famous works in English, French, German and Italian. The program will also feature several original song cycles from Johan Hartman’s debut EP album, Blood and the Moon, recently released on Constitution Records. (Running time: 60 minutes.)

Sunday, March 1, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. – The festival concludes with the ensemble’s critically acclaimed production of Pergolesi’s La Serva Padrona, a light and charming comedic chamber opera about a servant’s plan to become the master of the house, starring Johan Hartman and soprano Yi-Chun Sarah Tsai. Special guest stars include The Miami Oratorio Society, an African American chorus performing Black Spirituals by African American pioneering composer Florence Price and choruses from Handel’s Messiah with the Mostly Baroque Chamber Orchestra. (Running time: 75 minutes.)
