PINK ROCKS: A Fashion Show to Benefit Breast Cancer Survivors. Join us from 6:30PM – 9:30 PM at the Miami Science Museum for a cocktail, silent auction, music and a rocking fashion show.

311 Productions Inc. is proud to sponsor this event that will benefit the Breast Cancer Survivor Ladies of Save Our Sisters, SOS. This group of ladies has come together as a team, a dragon boat team. These ladies not only pride themselves on being strong survivors but also make sure to extend a lending hand to their community. Their purpose lies in more than just dragon boating. They hope to excel and impact the community by:

• Helping improve quality of life for survivors
• Serve as mentors and role models to newly diagnosed women
• Spread awareness to ladies through workshops, lectures and appearances
• Offering information on where to get tested and how to do self examinations
• Offering mammograms to low income/underprivileged ladies
• Participating at various community events to spread the word
• Letting survivors know there is a proactive life after treatment

This event will feature clothes from local Miami fashion designers. As a special treat the ladies of SOS will hit the runway to strut their stuff assisting in the launch of local Fashion Designer Marilyn Rumbaut. Pinks Rocks will have a cocktail hour, silent auction and fashion show.

The Heart of The Grove Gallery & Gift Shop is the home of the GroveHouse Artists, a local artists’ cooperative.

Our next opening will be on Friday, September 12, from 6 to 9 pm. Membership shows in the gallery run for two months and are juried by an independent judge and a rotating committee of members. In addition, an artist from our membership is featured every month.

GroveHouse Artists is now accepting new members. Miami New Times is proud to present its 1st Annual Iron Fork presented by Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association! Iron Fork will be held on September 10 at the Miami Science Museum from 6pm-10pm.

The Iron Fork event will showcase some of Miami’s most popular chefs as they face off in a head-to-head cooking competition that will be judged by local area celebrities. The winning chef will receive the prestigious “Golden Fork” award and wins bragging rights for the next year!

During the exciting cooking competition, guests will enjoy cocktails, live music, and food samplings from a number of the city’s best restaurants.

Cocowalk To Host Opening Ceremony Celebration For The Beijing Summer Olympic Games 8/8/08

On Friday, August 8, at 8:00 p.m. CocoWalk will host a kickoff celebration for the Beijing Summer Olympic games featuring a live screening of the opening ceremony on a large screen television set on the courtyard’s stage.

In addition to CocoWalk’s screening of the event, Bice Bistro will add to the Olympic spirit with a dinner party debut of the restaurant’s special pre-fix Olympic dinner menu that will available throughout the duration of the Olympic games. Special guests at Bice Bistro’s dinner party include Brigitte Andrade, creator and publisher of The Adventures of Bibi & Friends, and Charlotte Barron, who are also celebrating the latest online edition of The Adventures of Bibi & Friends. The story line follows features Bibi and her fictional cousin LILI as they travel to Beijing for the Olympic games. Also joining Bibi and LILI, is the real life Louis Aguirre, of Deco Drive, who will be co-reporting with Bibi on the Olympics.

Admission is free to watch the ceremony, however those wishing to dine at Bice Bistro should make reservations for the dinner by calling (305) 443-1770.

“We are excited to be celebrating the beginning of the Beijing Summer Olympic games,” says Cynthia Bettner, marketing director for CocoWalk. “The event at Bice Bistro, which offers a great view of the large screen television, is a wonderful complement to the opening ceremonies.
