EQUUS, by Peter Shaffer, recently enjoyed a successful revival on Broadway starring Daniel Radcliffe. EQUUS is a rare theatrical accomplishment: a critically acclaimed success that is emotionally gripping and intellectually challenging.

Alan Strang, (Michael Joseph) a 17 year old stable boy in a rural part of England, has hideously blinded the horses in his charge. No one knows why. The outraged community wants his life but the Magistrate (Fern Katz) commits the boy to a hospital to be treated by Dr. Martin Dysart, (Bill Shuman) a child psychiatrist.

Under hypnosis and drug treatment, Alan’s shell begins to crack, revealing a young man torn between the ultra-religious piety of his Mother (Christine Chavers) and the sardonic atheism of his Father (George Salimbene). As the doctor forces Alan to reveal the bizarre reasons for his act including the name of the girl who seduced him (Natasha Savignon) Alan’s inner turmoil is exposed and the doctor begins to question his own beliefs and the purposes of his profession.

Other characters include: the Stable Owner (Steve Lombardo), the Nurse (Clelia Myers) the Horseman (Nicholas Machado), “Nugget” the leading horse (Willie Hollins), and the Ensemble of Horses (Domingos Sobrinho, Marco Marquez, Joseph O’Neill and Nicholas Machado).
