Art Basel Day 5-Miami Beach Art Overload

Art Basel at the Miami Beach Convention Center
Obviously, I have to go see the big event of Art Basel itself at the Miami Beach Convention Center. My friend and I just went to the outer “circle” of the event in order for us not to get lost when leaving the convention center. This year, there was a bit of everything: abstract, contemporary, out of the ordinary. A little bit of everything. Some pieces got me interested but there was nothing in my opinion that totally made me say, “You have to see it” but I was honored to go to Art Basel itself.

Art Center South Florida
After our first Art Basel dose of the night, we headed to Lincoln Road and went in Art Center South Florida which was showcasing ‘Center of Attention,’ a group show spotlighting local professional emerging and established artists. Among the many imports descending upon Miami during Art Basel, ArtCenter/South Florida – contemporary art incubator since 1984 – puts the focus on local talent. Nearly 40 artists-in-residence opened their studios showcasing new works in the 800, 810 and 924 Lincoln Road buildings, while the ‘Center of Attention’ exhibit in the main gallery spotlights resident artists including: Ramon Bofill, Natasha Duwin, Katerina Friderici, Alex Heria, Adriana Carvalho, Venessa Monokian, Damian Sarno (pictured), Amanda Serrano, Antonia Wright and David Zalben.

Guess By Marciano
So we hear about a party at Guess and ventured over there after we got a dose at the ArtCenter. This was a different kind of party but still celebrating with the style of Art Basel. Vodka cocktails and light bites were the toast of the evening while shoppers browsed the many beautiful apparel and accesories that only Guess Marciano has to offer.

Verge Miami Beach
Verge Art Miami Beach 2011 edition premiered at the 45-room Greenview Hotel, the closest hotel of all the satellite fairs in Miami Beach to Art Basel. Besides being closer to the main event collector traffic on Washington Avenue, the Greenview is also a stunning setting for galleries and artists projects, with clean, flat white walls throughout, breezy spacious suites more conductive to a classic true white-cube exhibition environment.

Anthony Liggins Presents Love Revolution
Internationally renowned contemporary artist Anthony Liggins brought the “Love Revolution” to South Florida at the opening event for Gallery 88. Liggins’ works can be found in major galleries spanning the globe from the Middle East, throughout Europe, and the Americas. Event goers were surrounded by Liggins amazing work of art while they sipped on cocktails provided by Bombay Sapphire.

Macallan Single Malt tasting The Raleigh
The Macallan Single Malt AD Oasis for the official launch of the collaboration with world-renowned photographer Nick Veasey. This was a party that if you missed it you would have kicked yourself. The great sound of DJ Mike Nouveau rocked the house with today’s hits. A spectacular party that knocked your socks off.
