March 12 Event to Feature Military Theme in the Ongoing Fight Against Hunger

Representatives of Feeding South Florida™ (formerly Daily Bread Food Bank) are encouraging South Floridians to help “wage a war” to fight hunger during the organization’s March 4 Hunger. The 5K Walk/Run along the acclaimed Hollywood Boardwalk, touted as one of the best boardwalks in the U.S., and beach area in Hollywood, Fla., will take place on Saturday, March 12 from 7:30-10:30 a.m. The Walk/Run will mirror the military theme concept of Feeding South Florida’s April 2010 renaming/grand opening event which emphasized the ongoing fight against hunger.

This fun and healthy communityevent will give attendees the chance to “run miles for meals” to help alleviate hunger for the more than 1 million residents of Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe and Palm Beach Counties. For every dollar raised, Feeding South Florida can provide for nine pounds of food and grocery items. Registration for the event is $25 in advance and $35 the day of the race. To register, visit www.splitsecondtiming.com.

Corporate sponsorships are also available. The generosity of corporate sponsors keeps program fees at accessible levels for all participants, and will cover every aspect of the event from racing and timing equipment to providing a safe and aesthetically pleasing venue for runners. All donations are tax deductible.

Sponsorships ranging from $2,500 to $30,000 are available. Another way to contribute to the event is productsponsorships, in which corporations may purchase or provide gates, bibs, timing tags, food, tables, chairs, video, radio equipment, silent auction items, etc.

Current event sponsors are City of Hollywood, Republic Services, Inc., Whole Foods Aventura, America TeVe, Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, Ltd., The Nerdel Company, Elite Island Resorts and 5 Hour Energy.

Businesses interested in becoming a sponsor of the inaugural March for Hunger should contact Anthea Pennant, Feeding South Florida director of development at (786) 229-7581 or apennant@feedingsouthflorida.org.

“We are very excited about this inaugural event,” said Judith Gatti, executive director of Feeding South Florida. “In line with our ‘Fighting Hunger, Feeding Hope’ campaign, we hope to raise funds for the many South Floridians facing food insecurity, as well as ensure that event participants enjoy this event.”
