Openings at the North Miami galleries and MOCA
Date: September 25, 2009
Location: 125 Street between 7th and 8th avenues
Time: 7 p.m. – 10 p.m.
The galleries in North Miami will host their regular opening night on the last Friday of the month, September 25, from 7 to 10 p.m. During the gallery walk, visitors will enjoy hors d’oeuvres, wine and free parking.

The Museum of Contemporary Art, MOCA, opens the exhibition Pivot Points 3 with artworks from MOCA’s permanent collection that mark important moments in the development of the artists’ work and turning points in contemporary art. Each of these works contributed to the development of the museum’s collection and is essential in establishing the direction for its continued growth. The exhibition is curated by MOCA Executive Director and Chief Curator Bonnie Clearwater.

For Friday, September 25, the museum has programmed at 8:00 p.m. the Jazz concert by Mitch Frohman of The Bronx Horns. For further information please visit www.mocanomi.org.

IV Inter-American Biennial of Video Art
The Biennial is organized by the Cultural Center of the Inter-American Development Bank, with the objective to stimulate the creative use of video, and encourage the Latin American and Caribbean artists to use their abilities to formulate original and imaginative proposals with the help of video technology. The exhibition presents the awarded videos at the IV Inter-American Biennial of Video art.

First Prize of US$4,000 to the video “Common Words” by Martín Mejía from Colombia, a dialogue work in which interchanged words are inserted with images to establish a reflection on the fundamental topics of existence and survival. Second Prize of US$3,000 to the video “Les terra’s di nadie” (No-one’s Lands) by César Augusto Meneghetti from Brazil, which is a conceptual, dense and powerful piece conceived around social and political events that invade the current reality. Third Prize of US$2,000 to the video “Dos veces adiós” (Two Good-Byes) by Iván Nicolás Grum from Chile, a piece that takes advantage of film history to tell once again a love story that takes place anywhere on Earth. Honorable Mention to the video “Aspiro al rol” (I Aspire to the Role) by Verónica Riedel from Guatemala and to the video “Cuando calienta el sol” (When the Sun Warms Up) by Christian Maciá de la Orta of Mexico. Special Mention to the video “Noche” (Night) by Mariana Sosnowski from Argentina.

25 videos were selected from among 201 works submitted from 15 countries and Puerto Rico. The Video exhibition was inaugurated in 2008, at the IDB Cultural Center Art Gallery in Washington, D.C. The exhibition will be presented in 2009 at the Istituto Italo-Latinoamericano in Rome, and in October of 2009 at Santafe de Bogota’s International Film Festival.
This exhibition is organized in conjunction with the Cultural Center of the Inter-American Development Bank.
