Two masters celebrate Egyptian music’s Golden Age in this special intimate evening. Tarek Abdallah طارق عبدالله is master of the oud, the Middle Eastern stringed lute. Adel Shams El Din (Official) عادل شمس الدين, on riqq frame drum, was co-founder of the revered sufi group Al-Kindi Ensemble, who visited Miami with the Whirling Dervishes of Damascus.

From a 2015 Songlines review of their date at Royal Albert Hall in London — “Headlining the evening were Egyptian duo Tarek Abdallah and Adel Shams el Din, whose intricate, masterful performance captivated a sold out audience… The pair performed tracks from their newest album Wasla, which was chosen as one of Songlines’ best albums of 2015. Tarek Abdallah is widely regarded as one of the world’s best players of the oud. He has a Master’s degree in Musicology from the University Lumière Lyon in France and runs regular oud workshops in various notable educational institutions around the world. He regularly collaborates with Adel Shams El Din, who excels at providing deft and dynamic accompaniment on the riq (a classical Arabic tambourine).”

Axis of Love is a three-part concert series presented by The Rhythm Foundation with major support from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. Tickets are $20 for individual concerts in advance, $50 for a three-concert series.
