Arte Flamenco is a joint artistic venture by three of Miami’s best flamenco companies: Ballet Flamenco La Rosa, Clarita Filgueiras – Flamenco Puro, and Siempre Flamenco. Together, they have created an event that includes four original programs – all world premieres – that will showcase flamenco dance, guitar, and cante (singing). Master classes will also be offered with guest artists from Spain from January 2- 15 at PAN, Performing Arts Network.

ArteFlamenco opens on January 7, 2012 at 8 PM with the gala presentation of Suma Flamenco. This original production joins Ballet Flamenco La Rosa, Clarita Filgueiras – Flamenco Puro, Siempre Flamenco and special guest artists, guitarist Antonio Españadero, Singer “El Choquero”, Dancers Jose Moro, Eloy Aguilar, Fran Bas and Special Guest Star “La Truco” Together, they bring the spellbinding and earthy power of flamenco dance and live music at its best with an explosion of passion, rhythm and power.

On January 12 and 14, Ballet Flamenco La Rosa, an international flamenco company based in Miami, will present Directo Al Corazon (Straight to the Heart), an original flamenco ballet by Artistic Director and Choreographer Ilisa Rosal. Inspired by Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler, this cutting-edge work features world-renowned flamenco dancer La Truco and an international cast of musicians and dancers. Directed by Ilisa Rosal, La Truco, one of Spain’s most sought after female soloists, will dance the role of Hedda. Joining her are the dynamic Soloists Jose Moro, Eloy Aguilar and FranBas,, as well as Guitarist Antonio Españadero and Singer El Choquero, direct from Spain, along with Joe Zeytoonian and Myriam Eli of Harmonic Motion, for this magnificent world premiere.

January 13 brings us the world premiere of Furia De Color Flamenco by Siempre Flamenco Company. Flamenco Fury explores and celebrates the relation of Flamenco to the poets and folkloric traditions of the Andalusian people. This lively, energetic and colorful show unveils connections between Flamenco and the popular folkloric songs that animate Andalusian life. Lyrics written by poets Federico Garcia Lorca, Antonio Machado and Rafael Alberti are set to original music by Paco Fonta and original choreography by Celia Fonta. Siempre Flamenco Company will be joined by guest Guitarist Jose Cortes, “Pansequito” and renowned Flamenco Singer Manuel Palacin. The power of traditional Flamenco, together with the soulful expression of Spanish folklore, promises an unforgettable evening reaffirming the relevance of artistic tradition in the modern world.

Closing the festival on January 15, Clarita Filgueiras – Flamenco Puro brings us Mi Calle Flamenca, an intimate view of the cobblestone streets of old Sevilla, where Flamenco dancers and guitarists gather under a street light for a night of flamenco. Staccato footwork and wildly strumming guitars punctuate the night. Serpentine arms and whirling bodies cast their shadows on the street to the guitars’ driving rhythm. A night of gypsy fire, duende, and abandon swells to a frenzy until bodies and emotions are spent. Created and choreographed by Clarita Filgueiras, Mi Calle Flamenca is a portrait of the passion, intensity and desire of flamenco dancers in old Sevilla. Performed by Gypsy Guitarist Jose Valle (Chuscales), Singer Vicente Griego, Percussionist Romulo Bernal, Guest Soloist Eloy Aguilar and Internationally-acclaimed Choreographer and Flamenco Dancer Clarita Filgueiras, , Mi Calle Flamenca sets a new level for flamenco artistry.

“We are ecstatic to have such a great ensemble of artists working on this project,” said Ilisa Rosal, Artistic Director of Ballet Flamenco La Rosa, as well as Choreographer and Director of Directo al Corazon. “As with many of our productions, this is a multi-disciplinary international collaboration that promises extraordinary results that will enchant audiences at the Arsht Center.”
