First 100 Guests Earn Free Trees, Chances To WinWireless Tablets, Phones

Verizon Wireless will spread holiday cheer by giving away 100 Christmas trees, wireless tablets and other technology to South Florida families at a free holiday party

The first 100 people in line and/or to arrive at the event will win a free 6-foot fir tree (one tree per family). Verizon also will raffle off a wireless tablet such as a Motorola XOOM, one of the hottest tech gifts this holiday season, and other gifts such as Motorola Droid BIONIC smartphones.
Refreshments, music and activities for adults and kids also will be provided.

“Winning a free Christmas tree and cool technology is a great way to start the holiday season,” said Alex Rodriguez-Roig, executive director of Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade. “We hope to get a big crowd at the free tree party, and to our tree sale throughout the holidays.”

Verizon Wireless purchased the 100 trees from Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade’s annual Christmas tree sale, with profits funding the Clubs’ advanced after-school educational programs. Prior to the public party, Verizon Wireless will treat Boys & Girls Clubs kids to a private holiday visit by Miami Dolphins Davone Bess and other local sports stars.

The athletes and kids will read holiday tales from a variety of cultures, in both English and Spanish, on interactive wireless tablets such as the XOOM, Samsung Tab, iPad 2 and others. The tablets then will be donated to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade’s after-school educational programs that include homework assistance, computer training, arts, social skills, literacy, fitness and more.

“Verizon is proud to support Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade and its outstanding after-school programs that help so many Miami children achieve better grades and personal success,” said Pam Tope, Florida region president of Verizon Wireless. “The wireless tablets we’re donating are amazing devices for both entertainment and education. And, we’re pleased that the proceeds from the 100 trees will fund even more great activities for the kids.”

The Christmas tree sale is open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
