The Roxy Theatre Group’s (RTG) 21st Century Community Learning Centers after school program will present the fairytale mash-up musical of Into the Woods Jr. The cast is made up of students representing both South Miami Middle School and Glades Middle School. Through the rehearsal process, students have utilized educational study guides in order to build their characters. These guides also assist the students in better understanding why their characters are going on this journey “into the woods.”

Into the Woods Jr. intertwines the plots of several of the Brothers Grimm fairytales. As the characters of the stories cross each other’s paths, they are faced with challenges and have to deal with the consequences of their decisions. With main characters from the stories of Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel and Cinderella, this production is fun for the whole family.

“When I found out we were doing Into the Woods Jr. I was super excited! All the different stories that are in this show are stories I grew up reading. Getting the part of the Baker was the cherry on top,” exclaimed Raynel Noa, 12, student at South Miami Middle School who attends the RTG’s 21st CCLC after school program.

“The students have worked very hard on this production. Watching them take their characters and make them their own has been wonderful. They have learned so much throughout this entire project,” said Andrew Rodriguez-Triana who is the Director of Into the Woods Jr. as well as the Musical Theatre instructor for the program.
