Miami Science Museum Art Commission Event During Art Basel for new Museum
On Dec. 7 and 8 from 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
Miami Beach Public Library
2100 Collins Ave.
Miami Beach, Fla. 33139

With its upcoming initiation of commissioning large scale public artworks for the 2015 opening of its new world-class, state-of-the-art facility building – the Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science – Miami Science Museum is releasing the Request for Proposals during Art Basel Miami Beach. Museum staff and architects will be in the auditorium of the Miami Beach Public Library.

During this event, which is open to the public, Museum staff and architects will be available to review the commission process, share details of the new building, in addition to the Museum’s architectural model, and digital video fly through.

Museum officials hope to receive cutting-edge, vibrant and engaging proposals for the new building. The Museum’s goal is to commission artworks that seamlessly merge with the overarching Miami Science Museum themes of People, Planet and Prosperity.

In 2015, Miami Science Museum will move from its current location to downtown Miami. The new Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science will be in great company residing in the Museum Park with the newly renamed Perez Art Museum, formerly the Miami Art Museum.

“Art Basel provides us with a wonderful opportunity to engage with artists who could possibly provide pieces for the new Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science,” said Miami Science Museum CEO & President Gillian Thomas. “We are very happy to launch this process during the most prestigious art show in the Americas to search for exceptional artists.”
