Mother’s Day Activities at the Volvo Ocean Race

On Mother’s Day (May 13, 2012), the Volvo Ocean Race, a worldwide sailing race, invites everyone to come on down to the Volvo Ocean Race Village in Downtown Miami, to participate in activities for all ages. At 10 a.m., the gates will open and the village will come to life with family entertainment such as face painting, a petting zoo, clowns, and entertainment for all, such as an antique boat and auto show, live music, sailing, stand-up paddle boarding, even a 3-D theater and a race simulator. In addition guests can be a part of the Keep the Ocean’s Clean- Sculpture Building workshop and the Miami Marlins will have an autograph session on site. Best of all, entrance to the village and participation in these activities is FREE to the public.

On Saturday, May 12th be sure to check out the original steamboats from 1887 who will make an appearance on site. Florida Queen and Krakatua, will put on a show while they burn imported coal and race the waters of Biscayne Bay behind the Volvo Ocean Race Village.

The Ocean Race Village is open to the public every day between now and May 20, when the sailors will depart and continue the 39,270 mile race, at 1 p.m.
