Target Wednesday After Hours series continues with Meet the Artists
The Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum at FIU continues its popular Target Wednesday After Hours series with Meet the Artists. On October 14, 2009 at 6 p.m., guests will be able to interact with artists Eduardo del Valle and Mirta Gómez (En Vista) and Navjot Altaf (l a c u n a i n t e s t I m o n y), two of the artists whose works are currently on view.

Eduardo del Valle and Mirta Gómez (En Vista), the Cuban-born husband and wife team, have worked collaboratively for more than 30 years, receiving international acclaim for their photographs of subjects in a state of flux, including Maya houses in the Yucatan; Caribbean salt flats; remnants of nature’s evolution, including meteor craters. The first monograph of their work is a three-part photographic essay focusing on the metamorphosis of the vernacular domestic architecture in the Yucatán Peninsula, México. This exhibition will focus on their new research captured in photographs. Their recent photographs will be exhibited as part of the Florida Artist Series and faculty exhibition at the Art and Art History Department at FIU. Their work will be on view until December 7, 2009.

Navjot Altaf’s video installations in l a c u n a i n t e s t i m o n y reflect her interest in a broad range of art media, societal issues and social unrest. Her video raises questions about whether one can enumerate and describe often opaque and confounding events and how events in India are relevant to violence and oppression throughout the world. Altaf’s video clearly translates cross culturally, as it speaks not only of Gujarat, but of global conflict. She lives and works in Mumbai, India. l a c u n a i n t e s t i m o n y is on view until January 10, 2010.
