New Theatre presents its second Mainstage Classic of the season – Agnes of God by John Pielmeier.
In this psychological drama which was a hit Broadway and later made into a film, a court-appointed psychiatrist is charged with the task of assessing the sanity of a novice nun (Agnes) accused of murdering her newborn. However, the Mother Superior keeps young Agnes from the doctor, arousing the doctor’s suspicions further. Who killed the infant and who fathered the tiny victim? These questions force all three women to re-examine the meaning of faith and the power of love.
Under the direction of Artistic Director Ricky J. Martinez, the powerhouse female cast consists of New Theatre veterans Barbara Sloan, Christina Groom and Pamela Roza, returning to the stage after a 3 year absence. The team includes: Production Stage Manager, Jerry Jensen with Scenic Designer: Ricky J. Martinez, Sound Designer: R. Kent Wilson, Lighting Designer: Eric J. Cantrell and Costume Designer: K. Blair Brown. Agnes of God is made possible in part by Citizens Interested in Arts and and programming support from the Miami Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, the Affairs Council, the Mayor, the Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners.
