In honor of the upcoming 500th Anniversary of Ponce de Leon’s discovery and naming of La Florida, the Coral Gables Museum and Northern Trust cordially invite you to a lecture by Dr. Michael Gannon.

The lecture will be held in the Robert J. and Marian Fewell Gallery where the map exhibit La Florida is located. Dr. Gannon will provide historical context to the maps that depict Spanish settlements in what was then considered to be Florida. These maps are a verification of some of the earliest connections between Florida and Spain.

The exhibit, made possible through the efforts of Ambassador Cristina Barrios, Consul General of Spain in Miami and Spain’s Ministry of Culture, gives a rare glimpse of replicas of ancient Spanish Maps, many never seen outside of Spain.

Music provided by the Coral Gables Music Club on the “Steinway Piano in Residence” on loan from the Steinway Piano Gallery, Coral Gables.

Parking is available in the parking garage across the street from the Coral Gables Museum.
