South Florida CrossFit Athletes to compete among each other to bring home “Gold Hammer”
In an effort to bring home the “Golden Hammer,” the event, sponsored by Formulx and Nic Del Mar, will gather athletes of all skills and ages from 18 years old to the masters division, which is 40 and over. 192 of South Florida’s top athletes in a day-long battle that will put their physical and mental toughness to the test.

Participating CrossFit locations include: I Am CrossFit Miami, CrossFit Gables, CrossFit Vida Brickell, and CrossFit South Miami. Beginning this past November every month, “Throwdowns” were held at different locations. These throwdowns were comprised of 2 WODs each where over 500 athletes participated against members of their respective boxes to find the top 12 male and top 12 female athletes of each location. Once 24 athletes earned their spot at the top, they will comprise the “team” representing each box. These 4 teams will battle it out to be named “fittest box” and bring home “Gold Hammer” on February 11th.

Each box will be represented by their top 12 finishers from the qualifying Throwdowns.
These 12 athletes will represent their box and named a “Team” (Team I AM, Team Brickell, Team Gables and Team South Miami).

Each individual athlete will be awarded a point corresponding to the place in which they finish for that event.

The top 5 individual scores from each team, for each event, will be accumulated for one total score.
After all events are completed all scores will be tallied up to give each box one score.
The “Team” with the least total points at the end of the day wins.

“The Civil War Games is a chance for our community of “boxes” and CrossFit members to not only compete against their peers, but also compete against themselves, challenging both their minds and bodies. What’s unique about this particular competition, is that it is only open to our family of community boxes, keeping it exclusive, fun and adding a bit of health, sport, community, and family fun,” said Mike Osuna, Civil War Games founder and owner of a variety of South Florida CrossFit boxes.

This past summer, Osuna brought Summer Crush Games, Miami’s largest CrossFit Competition that took place at The Magic City Casino. Sponsored by Reebok, the event gathered nearly 300 of the nation’s top athletes in a day-long battle, testing their physical and mental toughness.

CrossFit is the principal strength and conditioning program for many police academies and tactical operations teams, military special operations units and hundreds of other elite and professional athletes worldwide. With over 2,500 affiliated gyms throughout the world, CrossFit’s mission is to fuel a revolution in fitness with a constantly varied, intense, functional exercise program looking to develop the most complete well-rounded athletes out of its followers.
