Go on a Pride-focused tour of PAMM’s permanent collection, special exhibitions, sculptures, and architectural elements with one of our skilled guides. Guides will meet you at the museum lobby and lead you for the duration of the tour. This tour was developed by Miami-based artist and PAMM guide Thom Wheeler Castillo, and currently features permanent collection and special exhibition artists including Carlos Alfonzo, Deborah Kass, Glenn Ligon, Zanele Muholi, Robert Rauschenberg, and Kehinde Wiley. Tours are included with museum admission.

This summer at a 7:30 p.m. new, earlier time every other Thursday—June 8 through August 17—the Community Arts Program (CAP) Summer Concert Series returns for its 38th year. In the historic, Spanish-revival style setting of Coral Gables Congregational United Church of Christ, concertgoers have the unique opportunity to not only hear music by incredible classical and jazz musicians. Attendees also learn more about the music and each artist’s journey with music.

Since 1985, the Community Arts Program (CAP) Summer Concert Series has been attended by more than 70,000 concertgoers. It is a time-honored tradition that continued with virtual broadcasts to the world throughout the pandemic summers of 2020 and 2021, and gathered an average of 7,500 views each summer. This developed an extended audience that CAP is excited to welcome on-ground again in the summer of 2023!

Throughout the school year, the Community Arts Program (CAP) also provides after-school music education with the CAP Conservatory for the Arts and its Miami Jazz Institute. These reach children and youth from over 53 Miami-Dade County Schools, no matter what students’ circumstance or ability.

June 8 – Cap All-Star Jazz Ensemble reunion big band
The Community Arts Program (CAP) 2023 Summer Concert Series opens when alumni of the CAP Miami Jazz Institute ALL-STAR Jazz Ensemble return for a full-on REUNION big band, directed by Daniel Strange! A top-tappin’ evening transports listeners to the Big Band era with music of Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, and other giants!

June 22 – Mark Kosower
Principal Cello of the Cleveland Orchestra, Mark Kosower, embodies the complete musician, exemplified through his numerous awards and accolades. Joined by pianist, Melivia Raharjo, it’s an incredible evening with music of Beethoven, Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson, Krenek, Myaskovsky, and Martinů.

July 6 – 5 String Swing
5 String Swing sweeps concertgoers onto their feet with music of Cole Porter to George Gershwin, and everything in between, from the Great American Songbook. Dr. Steffen Zeichner, violin; Flexter Henderson, clarinet – saxophone – cajón; Dr. Greg Diamond, guitar; and Dr. Benjamin Whitman, bass create a lush, holiday celebration!

July 20 – Shannon Powell Trio
One of the most sought-after drummers and percussionists in the world – a powerful technique steeped in the drumbeats that emanate from the streets of New Orleans. Enjoy noted New Orleans’ musicians Shannon Powell, drums and vocals; Kyle Roussel, piano; and Grayson Brockamp, bass. Just wow!

August 3 – Sinta Quartet
First-prize winner at the Concert Artists Guild Competition, Sinta Quartet continues with accolades for its virtuosity. Four saxophone masters craft a jaw-dropping experience of Dvořák, Ligeti, Béla Fleck, and others – from works steeped in folk tradition, to time-honored music from around the globe.

August 17 – Ekep Nkwelle
The Community Arts Program (CAP) 2023 Summer Concert Series concludes with Ekep Nkwelle. This dazzling Cameroonian-American 2022 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition winner is joined with Luther Allison, piano; Jason Clotter, bass; and Hank Allen-Barfield, drums. Ekep sings her story and deep passion for jazz – with music from great recordings and artists that have influenced and continue to inspire her.

In honor of PRIDE Month (June 2023), History Fort Lauderdale presents “Take PRIDE! A Retrospective of LGBTQ Life in South Florida.”

The multimedia exhibit, located near Swarovski, between Macy’s and Dillard’s, will include over 100 historical photographs plus videos and costumes chronicling the growth, awareness and struggle of the LGBTQ community through the years. Photos will capture the liberation movement of the 1960s and ‘70s, the activism and rise of PRIDE parades and human rights rallies and the proliferation of gay-centric world-famous business endeavors including the Marlin Beach Hotel, The Copa and Backstreet.

A Photo Tribute Wall will feature lifestyle and significant event photos from Michael Murphy Photography. In addition, the exhibit will include the showing of “Open Dialogues,” an award-winning short film which captures the personal narratives of LGBTQ voices, produced by Art and Culture Center Hollywood, directed by Miami-based filmmaker Freddy Rodriguez and funded by Community Foundation of Broward.

Additional contributions to the exhibit are courtesy of Stonewall National Museum and Archives, World AIDS Museum and Educational Center, History Miami, Wilton Manors Historical Society, and Key West Art & Historical Society.
