June 12 – 16: World Ocean Week

From birds to sea turtles to manatees and more, campers will go on an exciting mission to explore our world ocean and learn what scientists are doing to protect it.

July 10 – 14: Wild About Wildlife Week

Campers will come along on a virtual adventure to hear about the intriguing stories of some amazing animals and learn how they can help conserve wildlife in their own lives.

About Manatee Lagoon – An FPL Eco-Discovery Center®

Manatee Lagoon – An FPL Eco-Discovery Center® is a free Palm Beach County educational attraction with a dedicated area to view manatees up close. The 16,000-square-foot center features engaging, hands-on exhibits for visitors to learn all about these unique marine mammals as well as the natural wonders of the surrounding Lake Worth Lagoon. During the colder winter months, the facility’s observation deck is the ideal spot to view manatees basking in the clean, warm-water outflows from Florida Power & Light Company’s adjacent Riviera Beach Next Generation Clean Energy Center. Manatee Lagoon also offers digital resources and educational virtual content for manatee fans near and far on its website: VisitManateeLagoon.com. During manatee season (November 15- March 31) the center is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and closed on Mondays during the summer.

About Loggerhead Marinelife Center
Loggerhead Marinelife Center, located in Loggerhead Park, Juno Beach, Florida, is a sea turtle research, rehabilitation, education, and conservation center. The Center also manages the Juno Beach Pier across the street from the park. Established in 1983, Loggerhead Marinelife Center seeks to promote conservation of ocean ecosystems with a special focus on threatened and endangered sea turtles. Its facilities include a sea turtle hospital, a research laboratory, and exhibit areas, including live sea turtles and other coastal creatures.

Registration is now open for students interested in Brévo Theatre’s (@brevo_theatre) summer conservatory program, “Young, Gifted & Brave.”

The conservatory is designed for students ages 14-22 interested in theater. Registration for the program is $25.00 and is open until May 31, 2023. Interested students and parents are encouraged to sign up at Brevo Theatre. An audition is required, but no experience is necessary.

The summer conservatory runs Monday – Friday, 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. starting on June 12, 2023 – July 30, 2023. Light refreshments and bus pass for transportation will be provided.

Young, Gifted & Brave – Theatre for Youth engages young actors in diverse and underserved communities who are interested in high-quality actor training and performance instruction. The outreach program provides workshops and one-on-one training to students throughout the summer conservatory culminating in a final summer performance.

In honor of PRIDE Month (June 2023), History Fort Lauderdale presents “Take PRIDE! A Retrospective of LGBTQ Life in South Florida.”

The multimedia exhibit, located near Swarovski, between Macy’s and Dillard’s, will include over 100 historical photographs plus videos and costumes chronicling the growth, awareness and struggle of the LGBTQ community through the years. Photos will capture the liberation movement of the 1960s and ‘70s, the activism and rise of PRIDE parades and human rights rallies and the proliferation of gay-centric world-famous business endeavors including the Marlin Beach Hotel, The Copa and Backstreet.

A Photo Tribute Wall will feature lifestyle and significant event photos from Michael Murphy Photography. In addition, the exhibit will include the showing of “Open Dialogues,” an award-winning short film which captures the personal narratives of LGBTQ voices, produced by Art and Culture Center Hollywood, directed by Miami-based filmmaker Freddy Rodriguez and funded by Community Foundation of Broward.

Additional contributions to the exhibit are courtesy of Stonewall National Museum and Archives, World AIDS Museum and Educational Center, History Miami, Wilton Manors Historical Society, and Key West Art & Historical Society.
