The Digital Premiere of “El daño que hace el tabaco” by Anton Chekhov goes live on Saturday, April 3rd at 7pm. ⁣⁣

⁣This theatre performance was filmed live at Miami-Dade County Auditorium’s outdoor stage and is part of the Drive-Through Theatre Experience. This virtual show is free to watch with no limited viewing time. The show is directed and performed by Larry Villanueva.⁣⁣

The story begins with Professor Ivan Ivanovich Nyukhin, the husband of the owner of a music boarding school for young ladies. The Professor enters a room with the innocent intention of giving a lecture on the harmful effects of tobacco. As the disorderly lecture begins to unravel, he delivers an unpredictable speech wavering between pathetic, ridiculous, and nonconforming, leading him to reveal terrible evils of the soul.

WHO: Dance NOW! Miami is South Florida’s leading contemporary dance company, under the leadership of Hannah Baumgarten and Diego Salterini.
WHAT: The program features a reconstruction of José Limón’s iconic “La Malinche” as part of the company’s Masterpieces in Motion series, along with two classic works from the repertory: Hannah Baumgarten’s iconic autobiographical solo, “Unburden”, and Diego Salterini’s contemporary ballet duet “Mitosis.” In addition, a new theatrical adaptation of the company’s critically acclaimed COVID-themed work, “This Moment, Here,” will be performed for the first time in front of a live audience.
