Help Transform and Save Lives by Giving Resources in South Florida on Giving Tuesday for Disease Prevention & Early Detection of Breast Cancer and Heart Disease

The Women’s Breast & Heart Initiative (WBHI)—a leader in disease prevention and early detection—joins Giving Tuesday during the season of giving on November 28. South Florida can raise local funds for disease prevention and early detection of a breast cancer and heart disease by giving at flbreasthealth.com/donate/.

A growing global generosity movement, Giving Tuesday, inspires hundreds of millions of people around the world to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity in their local communities on a that day kicks off the giving season and encourages people to do good.

Throughout the year, WBHI provides those living in South Florida with early detection resources, health education, care coordination, and patient navigation. The organization was designated the first official Florida license plate designed to support Disease Prevention & Early Detection.

Each year, 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 43,000 die. Despite remarkable advances in treatment and early detection, breast cancer remains one of the most frequently diagnosed cancers among American women, and it remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths. Heart disease is the number 1 cause of death in American women, claiming over 400,000 lives each year, 1 in 3 women or one death every 80 seconds.

Raise a mistle-toast to the holiday season! The Friends of Jack & Jill Center – a support group of volunteers committed to developing community awareness, fundraising and program assistance for Jack & Jill Center’s children and their families – is excited to host the 22nd Annual Stiles Light Up Downtown, presented by Michele and Joe Maiuro, at The Plaza on Las Olas on Tuesday, Nov 28, at 5:30 p.m.

Adults are invited to ring in the holiday season while giving back to the community with unlimited cocktails, canapés and festive live entertainment including carolers, jugglers and stilt walkers. The event will culminate with the magical lighting of a 30-foot Christmas tree, illuminating downtown Fort Lauderdale.

The proceeds from the event will benefit Jack & Jill Center’s mission to strengthen children and families through innovative education, supportive programming and community engagement. Jack & Jill Center supports children of high-need working families through quality early childhood education, elementary education, family strengthening program and HEALTH Program to ensure every child and family has the tools they need to be successful. Jack & Jill Center has served 26,000 children and families in South Florida since 1942.
