Gulfstream Park’s Music in the Park, featuring the greatest collection of local homegrown performers, will continue through the fall with weekly duos performing outside on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights at the Village Center Stage. He has done hundreds of private events for clients and created activations for companies such as Nickelodeon, The Gap, Coconut Grove Arts Festival and the Make A Wish Foundation. He also has won the award for “Best Kids DJ’ from the “best of” issue from Los Angeles Magazine.

Jazz at MOCA” is MOCA’s free outdoor concert series in-person on the last Friday of every month. On Friday, Nov. 25, MOCA is pleased to welcome Nanny Assis. Assis is a Brazilian-American singer, percussionist, composer, producer and guitarist based in the New York City area. In 2011 and 2017, he was the recipient of the prestigious Brazilian International Press Award as “Best Singer of the Year.” In 2017 in Tokyo, Japan, Assis received the award of “Brazilian Ambassador in Music and Arts” for his work promoting the Brazilian culture in Japan, New Zealand, Cuba, Italy, Russia, Israel, Turkey, England and more. Assis is a composer of the new season New York City-based musical “Rio Uphill.” He also has recorded three albums, “Brazilian Vibes,” “Double Rainbow,” and “Honey and Air.”

Friday Night Sound Waves, the free weekly concert series presented by the City of Fort Lauderdale’s Beach Business Improvement District, returns to The LOOP (Las Olas Oceanside Park) on Friday, Oct. 28, 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. The event series will feature all new acts to close out 2022.

Friday Night Sound Waves welcomes locals and visitors, the young and the young at heart, to enjoy some of South Florida’s best musical talents, performing an eclectic range of genres, including Jazz, Latin, Country, Top 40, Indie, Oldies, and Classic Rock.

Attendees are invited to come early to enjoy a variety of pre-concert activities along with local restaurants and vendors, who will be providing a rotation of food and drinks to purchase before, during, and after the show.

Friday Night Sound Waves was featured in the book, “100 Things to Do in Fort Lauderdale Before You Die,” by Christiana Lilly.

• Nov. 25 – Peter Mayer Stars & Promises Tour
As the only returning act of the season, Peter Mayer, singer, songwriter, and guitarist, returns to Las Olas Oceanside Park for a stop on the 23rd anniversary of his widely acclaimed Christmas tour “Stars and Promises.” Mayer has released 25 of his own albums, toured internationally with his own band, and has been the lead guitarist for Jimmy Buffett’s Coral Reefer band for three decades. Since that first recording and tour in 1999, Mayer has released four additional Christmas albums and this year celebrates his 23rd year on the road with his world-class seven-piece band. The “Stars and Promises” concerts are engaging and made memorable with state-of-the-art sound and production. “Stars and Promises” brings its unique yuletide tradition to fans who have called this production “a Christmas show like no other!”

History Fort Lauderdale, celebrating 60 years of stewardship of our community’s past by making our heritage accessible and engaging to residents and visitors, will partner with the Seminole Tribe of Florida’s Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum to present “Chono Thlee: Sparking A New Era in Seminole Art” at the New River Inn History Museum from Sunday, November 6, through Tuesday, January 10. The exhibit, launching during Native American Heritage Month, highlights new contemporary works by indigenous artists that analyze elemental relationships for the future based on community foundations of trust, truth, dignity and integrity. The exhibit opens to the public on Sunday, November 6, at 1 p.m., with music, storytelling and an artist meet and greet. A VIP art talk will be held on Saturday, December 3, at 9:30 a.m., with complimentary admission being extended to Art Basel First Choice or Preview cardholders.

Curated by Tara Chadwick, “Chono Thlee: Sparking A New Era in Seminole Art” will showcase a variety of contemporary and traditional media including oils, acrylics, fiber, glass, metals, mixed media and digital art from 13 multigenerational Seminole artists: Tia Blais-Billie, Durante Blais-Billie, Nick DiCarlo, Jacob Osceola, Leroy Osceola, Daniel Tommie, Samuel Tommie, Shonayeh Tommie, Gordon Wareham, Krystle Young, Brian Zepeda, Corinne Zepeda and the late Jimmy Osceola.

“Chono Thlee: Sparking A New Era in Seminole Art” is one of several insightful multicultural experiences at History Fort Lauderdale. Permanent exhibits include “From Dugouts to Dream Yachts,” a visual narrative weaving the story of the ever-changing use of Fort Lauderdale’s waterways by following the strokes of the first people to today’s sightseers, “The Bryans of Fort Lauderdale” which allows visitors to experience the story of the City of Fort Lauderdale as told through the pioneer family that shaped its development from an agricultural outpost in 1896 to a bustling city in the 1920s to its current status as a leading Metropolis, “Juliette Lange: A Portrait of a Mezzo Soprano,” a fashion and lifestyle glimpse of the socially prominent Fort Lauderdale resident with a lauded career as a star vocalist of musical comedy, plus “Archaeology of the New River” and a multitude of stories and photos sharing the history of other founding families of Fort Lauderdale. The nonprofit museum also hosts a variety of yearly multicultural exhibits highlighting African American, Caribbean, Latin and women artists sharing their views of history and an artists’ collective collaborative space.
