LifeNet4Families, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending homelessness, hunger, and poverty, has announced the honorees for its Casino Royale Annual Gala 2023 fundraiser set to take place at 6 p.m. on Saturday, October 7, at The Venue (2345 Wilton Drive, Fort Lauderdale). Burnadette Norris-Weeks, Esq. of Austin Pamies Norris Weeks Powell, PLLC, Kathleen Cannon, president and CEO of United Way of Broward County and Robert Taylor, president and CEO of BBI have been named as Leaders of Distinction while Publix Supermarket Charities, Inc. and Downtown Photo will be celebrated as 2023 Community Service Honorees for their contributions to serving and stabilizing the impoverished as well as promoting health and well-being in South Florida. WPLG Local 10’s Emmy award-winning Anchor Calvin Hughes will host this engaging and elegant night of excitement and purpose.
Casino Royale promises to be a thrilling evening with all proceeds earmarked to provide shelter, meals, and essential support services to those facing homelessness and hunger. The black-tie-optional fundraiser will offer a variety of fun games during the cocktail reception at 6 p.m. Step into a recreated world of a glamourous high-stakes casino, complete with live and silent auctions featuring unique items. Live entertainment and dinner will follow at 7 p.m.

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, History Fort Lauderdale, proud steward of our community’s past by making our heritage accessible and engaging to residents and visitors, will present the return of “Viva Fort Lauderdale: Celebrating Hispanic Art & Culture” from Friday, September 15 through Sunday, October 15. This fine art and sculpture exhibit celebrating the contributions of our multicultural Latin community will feature work from local artists including Leonardo Montoya (Colombia), Lifrancis Rojas (Venezuela), Isabel Perez Salazar (Venezuela) and Florencia Clement de Grandprey (Spain).

History Fort Lauderdale is proud to host a variety of engaging multicultural experiences, year-round. It seeks to bring awareness to the community through both traveling exhibits and multiple permanent exhibits including “Women Trailblazers,” “Fort Lauderdale – the Early Years,” “The African American Experience,” “Fashion & Musical Theatre,” “From Dugouts to Dream Yachts: the story of boatbuilding along the New River,” Seminole Arts & Culture,” “New River Archaeology,” and, most recently, “Take PRIDE, a retrospective on LGBTQ life in South Florida.” The nonprofit museum also hosts an artists’ collective collaborative space.

History Fort Lauderdale is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. with docent guided tours, daily, at 1, 2 and 3 p.m. Group walking tours are available upon special request. Admission is $15 for adults; $12 for seniors and $7 for students (through age 22 with a valid student ID). Admission is free for members, military, and children ages six and under.
