After the poolside festivities subside, the late night party moves into the Florida Room. Gilles Peterson returns for an exclusive double bill alongside Questlove, who makes his second appearance with Giant Step at WMC.
Best known as a founder and drummer of Grammy-award winning hip-hop group The Roots, Questlove has become one of the most well-respected artists in the industry. The Philadelphia native’s passion for music finds him taking on the role of producer, journalist and now late night television regular as he and his fellow band members became the house band on NBC’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last year. His DJ sets consistently bring venues to capacity as he spins a mix of every genre you can imagine as long as it gets you on the dance floor.
The evening is presented by Levi’s in association with Windows 7.

Windows 7 presents Giant Step’s Sunset Soiree featuring an exclusive performance by guest of honor Estelle with Rye Eye and DJs Alex Barck of Jazzanova & Darek Mazzone

Delano, A Morgans Hotel, Miami Beach FL

The party continues Saturday, poolside, as Grammy-Award winner Estelle heads poolside for her exclusive WMC appearance to preview her upcoming album, All of Me. She will share the stage with M.I.A. protégé Rye Rye while DJs Alex Barck of Jazzanova, Christian Prommer and Darek Mazzone keep the party moving.
Known for a vocal versatility that ventures through the worlds of rap, soul, pop and hip-hop, British songstress Estelle recently released her new David Guetta produced single “Freak” featuring Kardinal Offishall. She will take to the stage to preview this and other new tracks from her upcoming album, All of Me. Estelle first gained widespread recognition in the U.S. with the critically acclaimed major label debut Shine in 2008. The album garnered her the 2008 Grammy for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for the platinum single “American Boy” featuring Kanye West.
Up-and-coming rapper Rye Rye hails from Baltimore where she developed her unique club sound alongside DJ/Producer Blaqstarr. After hearing her work, M.I.A. signed her to her Interscope imprint N.E.E.T. Following the success of the singles “Bang” and “Shake It To The Ground”. Rye Rye’s debut album will be released in 2010.
Alex Barck, member of the Berlin-based DJ/producer collective Jazzanova, will bring a superb mix of soulful deep house, drum & bass, boogie, hip-hop, latin and soul. Jazzanova is one of the foremost proponents of the nu-jazz and house styles of music, gaining recognition as innovative remixers for a vast number of acts.
Munich-based drummer, DJ and producer Christian Prommer originally sprung to fame in the electronic music scene as part of Fauna Flash and Trüby Trio and has since gained solo recognition for his Drumlesson album series. KEXP Seattle’s Darek Mazzone will join him on the turntables. His show, Wo’ Pop, features “Modern Global Music” encompassing all the current musical genres while being deeply engaged in the sounds and ideas of each city or region.

Levi’s presents Giant Step’s Sunset Soiree: A Night of Latin Flavor featuring exclusive DJ sets by Gilles Peterson & Bobbito Garcia a.k.a. Kool Bob Love with Nickodemus
Friday, March 26 2010
Delano, A Morgans Hotel, Miami Beach FL
Thousands of people from around the world will flock to Miami Beach for the annual Winter Music Conference and those looking for the hottest, must-see events depend on Giant Step to give them an unforgettable music experience. Celebrating their 14th year at the annual conference, the music and lifestyle marketing company brings its Sunset Soiree to Delano with exclusive performances both poolside and in The Florida Room. Revelers can expect an impressive lineup that in previous years has featured such artists as Erykah Badu, Daft Punk, Wale, Matisyahu, Kruder & Dorfmeister and others.
DJs Gilles Peterson, Bobbito Garcia a.k.a. Kool Bob Love and Nickodemus join forces for a night of Latin music to kick off the festivities with a very special live performance by Chico Mann.
Entrance is Free but strictly RSVP only.
Making his return to Sunset Soiree after a 3-year hiatus, Peterson may be best known for his much loved genre-exploding syndicated radio show Worldwide on BBC Radio 1 which has cemented his tastemaker status. He has recently worked on numerous Latin music compilations including Havana Cultura (Cuba), Brazilika for Far Out Recordings (Brazil) and a double album for iconic Latin music label Fania’s DJ Series (Miami).
Representing Puerto Rico via New York City, Bobbito Garcia is a true modern day renaissance man filling the roles of author, announcer, TV personality, magazine Editor in Chief and world-class club DJ. In 1998, The Source honored WKCR’s Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito Show as the Best Hip Hop Radio Show of All-Time and his exploration of Latin music is sure to keep the crowd going.
Joining them in the DJ booth will be Wonderwhell Recording’s Nickodemus from NYC-based DJ collective Turntables on the Hudson whose foray into Latin music includes the tracks “Mi Swing Es Tropical” as heard on a commercial for iTunes & iPod.
Multi-instrumentalist / producer Chico Mann, who fills the 30+ year gap between Afrobeat, Afrocuban, freestyle and electronic music, joins the night for an exclusive appearance.
Also on hand will be Los Angeles-based Hit + Run offering free, live screen printing. The evening is presented by Levi’s in association with Windows 7.
